LOL Arakawa-sensei's sense of humor is great, if you couldn't already tell. Somehow, I can't picture a lady like her writing these things(has seen a pic of her before).

I know that it reads Breko in the japanese one, but it just occured to me as a bit odd, so I went and hunted down a chinese version of the omake. It said 無名子, so that's why I said Nameless. Maybe it should be nameless child or random passerby?

It's a Japanese word play that unfortunately we won't likely understand. Girls in Japan's past usually have their name with 'ko' (meaning 'child') at the back. The code names of the others in Mustang's gang are based closely off the first two characters of their names (except Riza who took Elizabeth). But where is there a girl's name with 'Bure'/'Br' at the front? So they simply tacked on the 'ko'
Is there a meaning to 'bureko'? Perhaps there is cause the Japanese katakana 'Bureko' also means this (see following link)
Japanese link
Pleco!
Whether whoever drew the yonkoma intended it to be so, we won't likely know.
Shirokage
May 27 2005, 09:31 PM
I had thought about "ko" being used as with girls' names, but I couldn't really figure out what "Bure" was. I also considered it being Blair but it sounded a bit off.
The main problem with translating this yonkoma lies with finding the appropriate english equivalent for the meaning. Maybe I should have just used "Miss Breda"?

May 28 2005, 01:41 PM
u know what, I would just put "Brelly" =P or "Brenie" cuz that's likely girl name's ending spelling ^^

Someone suggested "Bredette" once. I think it accurately depicts the utter lameness of the name. XD
Also, I believe Falman's name was "Veronica," but I can't remember exactly. (EDIT: It was "Vanessa." :D;;;) EDIT AGAIN: WTF obviously I can't read because that's exactly what you had put down. I suck. *slits wrists* *not really* *has a horrible sense of humor and should be shot*
Shirokage
May 28 2005, 05:29 PM
"Bredette" would work pretty well. Its lame enough to warrant such an expression on Breda's face. I'll go edit and attach the new version now.
To Umeko:
I had actually put down something else as Falman's name earlier. I edited it when it finally dawned on me that it should be Vanessa. (I suck at translating names.)

After toying about in Photoshop, finally managed to clean up and translate the spine from vol. 6. Also managed to hunt down and translate the spine of vol. 8 as well.
Vol. 5 and vol. 7 should be coming soon. Found the scan, but can't read what's on it

But I'll figure a way to clean them up, unless someone has clean scans?

I could do clean scans if you want. Or if it would be easier, here's what they say (in Japanese, I don't want to take away the fun of translating them if you don't want me to XD). Not sure if you're having troubles with volume five or seven or both, so... yeah.

l0l. nah, it's fine. people can have 2 different versions haha.
Oh yeah, and about 'Bureko' would it be inconvenient to just put a note on the bottom of what it means? I mean, I think it kinda loses the joke when translated. of course, there's the ever obvious/stupid "Bre-girly"

haha. Though I
am partial to just putting a translater's note on the side

shirokage: Yeah... I'm starting to lose track too... ^^; Anyway, I wanted to ask you about your spin scans. How are you doing it? Are you scanning it yourself? They're a little hard to see. When I scanned the volume 6 spine, it came out funny the first time. But when I rescanned it I scanned it at 100% size and played with the lighting, etc. in photoshop a little. If you can send me the full-size [100% scale?] scan I can adjust the lighting and what not.

or you can
Please don't take offense. I was just offering a little... friendly advice?

Hakai-kun : Don't worry, no offence taken. I didn't scan them as I don't have the actual book. It was from a chinese torrent that I downloaded. The scans were actually even worse than this to begin with. I already had to fix them in photoshop just to get them to the way that they are now.

I've got a question for you guys!

A friend passed me a bunch of FMA icons and I found one I thought was pretty funny, but we don't know where the original images came from (she also doesn't remember where she got this icon since she goes to a lot of sites, so we can't ask the person who created it. *sigh*).
I'm assuming it is one of the omake, since it looks like it is from the manga, but I could be wrong.

Any ideas?

4th volume? *sigh* So unfair. I have volumes 1 and 3, and 7-10 should get to me within the week. Wouldn't you know it I wouldn't have that one?
I did come across a fanart of Hawkeye drawing cat(?) whiskers on Mustang with a marker while the guys are in the background laughing. I'm assuming that was based on this. So now I am even more interested in what was going on!
I'd be in your debt if anyone can post a scanned translation of it! *big grin* And thank you very much

Here is the first two pages from Perfect Guide 4koma. More will be coming soon. (Well, that's kind of a lie, very busy recently. I WILL get to them sometime though, I promise.)
