I was channel surfing when the show premiered on adult swim. I watched it and now am hooked.
Mrs.EdwardElric
i saw the commercial on adult swim and i thought WOW HOW COOL....so i watched and got hooked on the first episode!!!!!
The Colonel's Girl
I saw the commercial and heard about it in Newtype, and was just like, 'hmmm, alchemy?' Then I watched it, and now I'm hooked.
Silver_Slayn
Lol, I was looking for something to watch, so I changed the channel to Adult Swim. I wasn't really interested, but I decided to watch it anyway.
OMG, I'm glad I did! Now I love this show!! I even tape my favorite episodes to watch over and over again! tongue.gif
NightMistress
I saw my bff watching the subs back in like september and I didn't pay much attention to it. Then it came on CN and I heard people in an uproar about the voices. They were telling me how good it is and how it was their favorite and how CN is ruinging it and on and on, and so I decided to get my hands on it some subs. Boy I'm glad that I did. I will admit that without seeing an ep or two from cartoon network, I might have passed it over. I deliberately stopped watching the CN version when I knew I would get my hands on the subs because I didn't want to get accustomed to those voices and I'm glad I didn't. It's not the worst dub, but the english voiced Ed is NOTHING like the japanese voiced Ed and I don't mean it in a good way. Nevertheless, I DO still watch it on CN (watched it tonight actually). It's cool to compare expressions of the English voices to that of the Japanese.
yannathedemonalchemist
I am eventually going to get the japanese version of FMA on dvd just so that i can have it for my anime collection.......cya all soon......

I had read about Full Metal Alchemist in Anime Insider two months before it was due to come out. I read that it was by the same people that did Wolf's Rain, but the story didn't exactly grasp me.

Come Thanksgiving, I was in the Hospital recovering from Spinal Fusion Surgery to correct my back. (Scoliosis) The first Thursday I was there, I woke up with the worst pain and had to push my beautiful morphine button (*pets it*) With that, since I was in a room alone, I decided to see that was on Adult Swim. I think it was the second half of Episode 3, because after seeing Ed lose his arm and leg with all of the BLOOD, I threw up and the nurse came in and shut it off. That following Saturday, I turned on the TV and it was on again. This being Episode 4, it scared me alot, and yet again I threw up.
Months later, fully recovered, I started watching Adult Swim for the heck of it again. (I had stopped when Wolf's Rain ended. I can't stand Inuyasha) Full Metal Alchemist came on and I said "Well shoot. It's that show I threw up from biggrin.gif!"
From there, I watched it every week, until I decided to download the fansubs.

Now I'm in total love with it.

hahaha, it seems that you watch some of the worst parts in the beginnings of FMA. I started out like this.

I was reading GameInformers, my most fav magazine. I came upon a preview for FMA game. I wasn't interested seeing it. After a few months, an advertising of the FMA game was on the magazine. I took notice that it said there,
"Base on the popular anime on Cartoon Network Adult Swim"
I got interested and got on the internet to look for some scans. I got scans from Voulme 1-9 in this website. I read the first chapter and I got hooked on to it. I read it till midnight and Finshed 2 volumes. I had to go on a trip to NY so I couldn't read FMA for a longggggg time. After I came back, I started to read it again. I found this site and learned some stuff too.
FULL METAL ALCHEMIST ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm getting my friend to get interested too, but she isn't showing any inprovments.

I first saw the commercials while watching the ROD ova on cartoon network and I was like "Ooooh...shiny" and then the episode came on some days later (I think). At first, it kind of fraeked me out because of the scary ressurected mother scene, but later I was okay. happy.gif

I was sitting in my basement at night, and I was really bored. I started flipping through channels and got to Cartoon Network, and obviously Adult Swim was on. It was episode seven (I think) "The Night The Chimera Cries" and it was the part where Ed was beating the crap out of Tucker. I kept watching and finally caught on that Tucker had used his daughter to make the chimera.

Well, I was really weirded out and so I didn't watch it for a long time. Then I saw the episode "Flame Vs. Fullmetal" and decided that I liked it. I went on the Internet and found out the storyline, and now I'm totally obsessed!

(Also, a funny thing is that for a long time I thought Hughes was Tucker, and I kept thinking, "What the flip, why isn't he dead or in jail?")
fmaedfan
i thought it looked good but my little step-bro isnt alowed to watch stuff so when he fell aslep early i stayed up to watch it it was at ep.15 it was awsome
ColdFire
I was going between Adult Swim and some other channel one dreary night. When I was on AS, it showed Lust on this balcony thingy. It looked so boring because she was just talking on and on so I flipped to the previous channel. Then, my friend mentioned it to me like a week or so later and he said it was really good. So the next Saturday, I watched it and instantly fell in love.

Adult Swim, of course. I'm always interested in the animes. I wasn't sure what to make of the previews but after the first show I was hooked. Their bravery after what happened to them and the alchemy. It is like magic and who doesn't like the mystery of magic? The beginning theme song caught me as well as the ending, I wait to hear those, the same way I wait to see the show. I've been checking out all the websites I can and trying to learn about the show without spoiling it for myself. The only other show I've done this for is Inuyasha and I LOVE!! Inuyasha.

I'm the only person I know who loves this stuff, so I'm glad I've joined the forum so I can share my thoughts and feelings about anime.
ymsg
Yeah, I'm the only one I know too lol.
Mustang's Apprentice
I was staying up later than usual, and after watching Kenshin and Futurama, noticed FMA was on. I remembered seeing an ad about the video game(Broken Angel) in my video game mag.

It was Episode 14:Destuction's Right Hand

And, of course after watching it I got addicted to it and downloaded some fansubs.

And so, here I am.
Hoice
uh.. I was watching tv, and I saw the commercial. Ed was on the roof of the train, and he yelled "HAAAA!!!" and clips from the show totally told me to watch it. "Fullmetal-alchemist. Premieres Novemer something at midnight" and ended with thumbs up from Ed.

I just had to watch it, and I was addicted before I saw one episode. unfortunately I missed some episodes. T_T
foolmetal alchemist
I heard about the game first. The first episode I saw was part 1 of the Tringham brothers.
terroja
I just caught episode three by chance on night. When I saw two little kids trying to bring their mom back to life and creating only a hideous mass of twisted organs with a horrible deathmask of anguish I said to myself, "Yep, this is my kind of show."
mongooseboi
i was searching for full metal panic, and i downloaded ep like 14 of FMA on accident, and it was a great episode, i think it was the Rush Valley. anyways, from there, i dled all the episodes i had missed and continued following the series from there.

Hmm . . . haven't posted in this thread yet. biggrin.gif

I used to be a gamer first and anime fan second, but now with the emergence of FMA in my life, that distinction has disappeared. I watched a lot of anime when I was young, mainly because that's really all they showed in Hong Kong that was directed towards children. Cantonese dubs, on the whole, aren't ALL bad, but I prefer the original Japanese even now.

I am also a bit of a Squaresoft fan, and I heard about the FMA game that they were producing and decided to check it out (and at that time, it didn't look too bad). Being the video game musician that I am, I searched for, found, and downloaded the FMA soundtrack, thinking it was the one from the game. It apparently wasn't, but I remember falling in love with the song "Brothers" almost instantly, and I sought to find out just what the FMA anime would be about.

Around the same time last year, there was an anime convention that I went to (the first con I've ever been to, since it was close), and they had a showing of FMA there. They showed the first three episodes, but I was already hooked after the end of the first one (good music, nice storyline, great concepts).

And that is how I got into anime again. Before FMA, I barely knew anything about anime. All the terminology people use when talking about it anyway. Now though, I'm proud to say that I do know a lot about the subject, even if I haven't been an aficionado for as long as some of you here. biggrin.gif

i think at the end of my sophomore year, almost two years ago, my friend added a "PS: GO WATCH FMA, STUPID" at the end of his entry in my yearbook. i didn't download a lot of anime back then, though, i mostly just borrowed naruto CDs off of friends. then in AP Bio my junior year (last year), one of the admins of this site, penguin|tired, kept bugging me to watch FMA and i started borrowing CDs from him and other friends. and i was hooked forever and ever. FMA made my junior year so much more bearable (and, uh, unproductive). biggrin.gif

and i still remember the afternoon in the school's journalism room when penguin|tired told me that FMA got licensed (at episode 31, i think) and would be dubbed, and then i proceeded to throw the Biggest Screaming Fit ever and stormed outside and smashed in a locker. in retrospect, i'm grateful no teachers witnessed that. ohmy.gif

How could I ever forget those two days. We were in Denver to go to a funeral, it was my first time at an open casscet , so when wegot back the hotel, I plopped on the bed .(I thought I was going to die of stomach) about an hour later , my mom order pizza, I was still asleep, like Hali said she tried to wake me up. The irst words I heard ever from Full metal Alchemist was Ed asking Himself " what have I done?" I remeber it like yesterday. The following Saturday I watched it again, on this exact date.

I fell in love with the series right away
Hawkeyes counterpart
Well, the first time was when they were featuring FMA in my anime magazines I subscribe to. At first I didn't take the time to read it because I thought it wasnt worth it tongue.gif . Well I justt kept on seeing all these articles about it till I couldn't take it anymore!! Finally I broke down and read it and I thought that it kind of looked cool after reading it^_^. Then I saw it on TV Guide when it was airing on Saturday and I thougt "oh I read about that before" so I watched it, I loved it after it aired for the first 5 minutes. Thats how I became a huge fan of FMA today^_^!!

Envious...
About a year ago, when it was first being fansubbed, I was testing the download speed of a torrent site.

As a test, I picked a random anime named mysteriously, "Fullmetal Alchemist."

I got the 1st eps. but never really checked it out except for the first 5 seconds. It just didn't hold my interest. I thought the title was bad enough (Fullmetal Alchemist? Sounds like a hentai! tongue.gif ), and when I skipped around the 1st eps, I saw some more weird stuff (A giant parrot monster? How ridiculous! biggrin.gif ).

It took me a few weeks, and after watching the latest Naruto eps, I was finally inclined to see the whole episode. Let's just say that when I first saw the Elric brother's "mother," I was terrified and intrigued at the show.

It hooked me ever since (ironically, I lost interest in Naruto soon after). Later as I watched the anime, I found out about the manga, and checked it out. I was even more impressed when I found out the original creator of FMA was a previously unknown woman manga artist. Very impressed.

I first watced Full Metal Alchemist on a Thursday night at Denver waiting for Inuyasha to come on.I noticed thhat there was a new show on Adult Swim so I watched it.The first thing I saw was the pint sized Edward Elric.I tried to wake up my sister to tell her a new show was on but she didn't listen.I watced first puzzled about it then I began to understand.Tomarrow we would leave Denver for our home town Casper.I thought this was the only time I would be able to watch it.(the episode was the first one yay the only reasone why I was confused is cause they cut out a part)
That Saturday night, I was sitting in front of the T.v with my brother and sister while telling them about this new show(watching Futurama at the time)my sister complained about why I didn't wake her up (as always smile.gif ) later we where waiting for Inuyasha to come on again when Ready steady go started to play (i did not know the title back then) I was bouncing off the walls cause it played on Saturdays too and I was hoping it was the second episode so I could see what happend to Rose.
It was the second episode and we all enjoyed it and so we added 2 new shows on our "to watch on adult swim'' list (the second show was Stand Alone Complex )

to me that is what it was but it wasn't much of an accident really

on every saturday I'm usually gone to the movies but i can't miss my Inyuasha or Yu yu hakusho, or DB GT, and a couple of the other shows on Cartoon network on that time frame, so i just taped a 4 hour block and when they showed the first episode of the show i thought i would watch it as well, and I liked it and the more i watched it i loved it, and then when the game came out, First thing i done, BAM i bought the game, and then I went to a nearby store that sales Anime DVD's imported from Japan, and found the two box case set that had all 51 episodes of FMA with subtitles and bought them both 40 bucks each smile.gif
chocolate_eds_everywhere
actually i watched it on accident(c not all mistakes r bad)
i was waiting 4 inuyasha 2 b on and fma came on and i was instantly addicted. laugh.gif
the_lightning_alchemist10
I was flippin through channels and stubbled upon the episode when Heughes's daughter is born (can't spell her name). I was freaked out, but loved it right away. I didn't get back to it after a while though, it was a little after my first Inu Yasha episode that I rediscovered it. Then I got all my other friends to watch and not one thank you for introducing them to one of the best animes I've ever seen.
KajiRisu
I read a review in and Animerrica magazine and thought that it would be a cool show. Little did I know how obsessive I would become.
Fullmetal Fugazi
I was working a late night and was just getting my stuff cleaned up so I could get some rest. I sat down and was flipping chanels and I saw this cool looking anime show so I watched what 8 mins were left of it (a forgers love). I thought to my self that was a pretty cool show and then I heard this amazing song (indelible sin) It was so good I decided to stay up and watch the whole show that was being reran at 3am. From there I was hooked tongue.gif
~*(Jaded)*~
Two years ago I had been watching Inuyasha on Adult Swim and saw a comercial for it. I thought it'd be stupid but when I saw it I loved it! Now it's my favortie anime and magna series.
Krazi
Well, I bought my first manga volume (.hack//legend of the twilight) and with it came this free manga sampler thing. I'm assuming there's more than one of the books; mine has the number 5 on it. Anyway, it had a preview for the Fullmetal Alchemist manga, so I read the first part, and I got really, really interested.

The one day this past summer I was looking @ the TV guide (we have satellite, so there's that handy guide on the tv so that you can see what's going on for the next day or so) and I saw that FMA was coming on that night at 12. I was really curious, so I stayed up to watch it.

I expected to come into the series in the middle and be totally clueless as to what I was seeing. But nope, somehow I lucked out and caught the first episode. I only recognized it as the first episode because of that little manga preview book, and I figured that since I'd been lucky enough to catch the beginning I should watch the show more... after all, I'm always complaining about how I can't get into animes because I never can catch the beginning and I have no clue what's happening.

I've been hooked ever since that night... though I got smart enough to tape it instead of staying up late. tongue.gif
Melissa
The way I got hooked was my friend, Ashley (who is obbsesed with any anime ), told me about the show. Back then I didn't really like her, but ever since she told me about FMA we've been best friends laugh.gif pretty puthetic huh? Having a show make you friends? Lol, well her and me always talk about it non-stop and kinda give everyone else headaches because of it rolleyes.gif oopsie. Lol
adamclark
my story: *leans back in his chair as he sits on the porch*

well me and my buddy bubba was out shooting coons over on the west mud pack and bubba says to me, he says, hay adam, lookie at that thing over there. is that a coon? i says no that aint no coon, thats sumthing else. so we cross around the mud patch and check out what it is and, what do ya know, its the fullmetal alchemist, sitting in the mud patch.

and that's how i found the fullmetal alchemist.

true story

the_lightning_alchemist10
LOL!! Watch someone really finds FMA like that!!!
Odysseus
some time ago I was watching Ghost in the Shell, but hadn't really cared for any of the other shows even though I had seen the commercial for FMA. One day I was playing a PC game and left the TV on waiting for GITS. So FMA came on around Episode... 13 and I was hooked. And that's it.
Winired
I ended up watching it after Inuyasha one night. I had missed the beginning of Inuyasha (Which I'm known to do quite often) so I was going to stay up to three-thirty so I could watch it again. Well Full Metal Alchemist came on next, the first eppisode, so I sat there and watched it. I absolutly /loved/ it.
Automne
It's my friend who introduced me to FMA. Everyday she would more and more talk about it and it slowly began to interest me plus I was confused by all the story (Brothers...Armor...Homunculus... Alchemy... Everytime I was like WTF! O_o) So I watched Canal + and the first episode I saw was episode 47 and let's resume this: I found the alchemy subject very interesting, I took a big liking to Lust, Dante impressed me by her coolness, I thought Wrath was extremly cute in his madness and I totally 'fell in love' with Envy when I first saw him attack Pride and destroy the ground happy.gif;;... That's all.
Full Metal Elf
My friend is an Anime/Manga fan (I am a new fan smile.gif)...and she said I had to watch FMA. Well...after the first episode I was hooked! She owns all the 5 DVDs avaliable here, so I have only watched those, plus the one aired last night on Adult Swim.
~FMAgurl~
I stayed up one night during a long weekend, and I happened to be watching Adult Swim. That just happened to be the night the first episode aired tongue.gif It was like nothing I had seen before, because all that I use to watch was pointless cartoons, so I made myself remember the name. i told my brother about FMA, and he downloaded it for me. I also discovered other anime, such as Witch Hunter Robin, Trigun, and Wolf's Rain that night. From that point that a became an anime fanatic biggrin.gif i fi hadn't stayed up that night, I probably would be doing homework instead of watching anime and browsing the forums laugh.gif
