SPOILERS:

When Winry tries to shoot Scar, he rushes at her and attempts to kill her but Edward, extremely distressed, jumps in front of Winry to protect her from Scar's wrath. After Scar flees and is pursued by Al, Edward takes the gun out of Winry's hand by slowly prying her fingers away, gently, finally letting the gun fall. He then holds her hand gently and comforts her. Winry the clings onto Ed's coat and he hugs her Later, when Winry still cries, Edward takes off his coat and wraps it around her!!! awww.]

EdWin going canon shocked me a lot. I didn't think it would happen so soon and especially after 47 but what do you know. FMA's main guy finally has a love interest (one way or not) but I hope it doesn't go spiraling down from there. They make a funny couple, but I hope Edo doesn't get all mushy and crap later on because of this, because Edo is Edo Next on the to do list: make Royai canon

I've seen alot of anime characters that pair up due to the reason of being a "childhood friend" and also "bickering/quarelling with another" characteristics. Honestly, I never expected Ed/Winry to become offical. o.o I was shocked, but VERY happy to say the least. But I don't know how deep the story is gonna evolve for them. FMA isn't the genre to focus on love and couples. Still... nice to know they weren't forgotten! Yay! And unfortuantly Ed/Winry ISN'T untouchable to those who hate it... No canon couples are ever untouchable. -.-

Oh man, I can't believe there are people that says it's weird! It's so OBVIOUS since the beggining that something would come up between than. All the stupid fights, the jokes..... Their relationship is diferent from Al x Winry. Even Hughes said, All said... I don't see them as brothers, they are just childhood friends, and since when childhood friends can't become in love with each other?

Well, it was obvious since the beggining, such a shame it didn't happen in the anime... And so what if it's cliche? I don't even see it as cliche, 'cause it's there since the beggining. Only people anti romantic didn't see it. And would like to see Ed happy with Winry than see him alone. Winry is a great character, and the perfect person to care for him. She cares for him since they were a child, and it's so beautiful. They would be great together!!

Well, about chapter 48, I never thought it would be soooo great, since it's a shounen anime. I think it would be better if nothing happens now, only at the end, or at least it doesn't become a Fushigi Yuugi like anime. Sometimes it's better to let something implicit than spoil the whole thing with desnecessary affectionness. But I think it will never happens in FMA.

And Ed is in love!! He just haven't realized it yet! ^__^

Judging from what just happened between them in Chap 48, I think the future of EdxWin could get very interesting. Maybe, Winry would think of Ed as more than just a 'brother' or a 'friend', and action towards him might change. But, as for Ed, I doubt that anything much would change, but its just me.

May I just say that I read the RAW on Thursday and literally let out a series of howler-monkey-like screams and leapt up to dance around my room after I read the zutto mae kara etc. line.

To those who are complaining that EdWin is "unnecessary" or "stupid" or "going to ruin the manga"...I think the problem is that you're assuming that Arakawa-sensei can't handle romance. You're thinking that if EdWin becomes a reality, FMA will suddenly dissolve into sugary pathetic romance-novel sidetracks. Come on, people! Look at the course Arakawa has already taken this couple on! Have we had a single cliche mush-moment between them yet?

Winry is Winry, and will remain a tomboyish mechanic-in-training, violent when annoyed, gentle when it counts. Ed is Ed, and will remain the spazzy, socially-inept, intrinsically good-hearted and kind genius alchemist we all know and love. (His attention-getting, awkward, utterly touching outburst at the train station has already proven that much. Expect no poetry and roses from this kid--he's gonna tackle romance with as much go-get-em energy and borderline craziness as he does everything else.) Falling in love is not going to turn them into simpering, marshmallow-centered pod people. What it will do is create a fascinating subplot, /and/ give their unique personalities a whole new angle from which to clash and connect.

For pete's sake, people. Give Arakawa-sensei a little credit. XD

And for that matter, hasn't anyone noticed the Plot Implications of this new development? Or was I the only one who winced when I realized that Winry had tea with Wrath? And most likely he now has an idea of how much she means to Ed, and him to her? You really think the baddies are going to just let that slide?

Expect no sunsets and wine yet. There is going to be a whooole lot of conflict goin' down over this one. XD

I love Edwin. In fact, I think, like many other existing romantic anime relationships, the yelling, denying of feelings etc etc adds to the enjoyment of the relationship in the eyes of the audience (me and some others in this case). An example of a distasteful relationship (at least to me) would be Miaka and Tamahome in Fushigi Yuugi - sucha classic of emotional crap. Of course, Miaka was already such an awful character, her relationship with Tamahome would inevitably bring down my opinion of him anyway. By the way, anyone remember the love scene dialogues between Anakin Skywalker and Princess whats-her-name in Star Wars? Man, that was god-awful!

I am confident though, like Tobu Ishi and others have said that the relationship between Ed and Winry would never deteriorate to such unbearable mush - it just wouldn't be compatible with the genre (and thus become despised by the aimed fans of the category). When it's done, it'll be done with taste

I really enjoy them as a couple. There are so many potential situations you could put them in without getting too mushy. I don't think the writer would have them get all lovey-dovey. It's just not them. You can still have a cannon couple without it being too cliche or annoying and I think she has done well so far.

K I finally read all of the posts XD Yep EdWin had it comming ever since the beginning. I don't think it's cliche. I like the couple, as long as it doesnt' turn into an inuyasha/kagome thing, and I know it won't. I hate obvious couples as well, like in DNAngel. I hate series that just focuses on romance.

Anyway, just because it's shonen, it doesn't mean there wouldn't be any romance. Take Bleach and Rave for example. Nothing is said, but we, as readers, know is there, unless you're really blind and don't pay attention. I mean even in series where I don't like the couple/characters, and there's something there, I still notice it. If the mangaka implies it, I see it, wether I like it or not. I remember reading DNAngel, and the mangaka tried to imply a yaoi relationship between the detective guy and dark, and I hated it. It was there nevertheless.

Ok I think I was just ranting...

What's a mangaka by the way? I know that in most anime/manga that is shounen or shoujo, there'll be some sort of yaoi (maybe not yuri) implication that the fans can infer in their pleasure and yes, I think it's rather useless since you know relationships will never evolve from those implications anyway (not from what I've seen) - they're just there for fan-service I suppose :S.

I do think, though, that the Inuyasha/Kagome relationship is one of the best anime romantic relationships I've seen done. It never really gets too mushy though it is obvious and canon... just not.... expressed verbally according to western standards. What don't you like about the "obvious" nature of such relationships?

A mangaka is someone who writes manga, in my understanding..

And personally, I don't really like Inuyasha/Kagome pairing that much..it's like Kagome is usually saved by Inuyasha and other stuff...kinda gets boring after a while...but it's kind of okay I guess.

As for EdxWin, gotta love that couple!! And believe me, Arakawa-sensei could make this couple really good without making it mushy ^-~

Yes, I do agree that it got old after a while, but at around the 1st season it was quite well done and I still think the relationship is heart-warming. Second season was boring because they kept on dragging on about Naraku and even till now (end of series.. not sure what's happening with the manga) there's still no resolution to anything.

I don't like Kagome x Inuyasha at all, aside from the fact that I hate those 2 characters (go Sesshoumaru-sama!) it's just to cliche, girl ends up in strange place, guy saves her once and he will be destined to forever save her whilst on a journey. Kagome keeps fretting about Inuyasha liking her or Kikyou but everytime she tries to act modest about it she later gets mad. And that's not even the point, she's got bigger things to worry about and she just worries if a half demon will ever confess his love/dump her. This process of "mild jealousy>making up>lovey dove moment>nothing developing from it" is repeated over and over and is so annoying(I sound like it but I'm not an Inuyasha hater...just in case). EdWin hasn't even started and it's 100x better.
