Not a lot of people hate her. It's just that some few amount of girls just gets really jealous of Winry (which is really funny) and they waste their energy showing it, so that's why we think Winry gets hated a lot.

Actually, to put it all together, Winry has many male fans, and quiet some few females (including me ). Many love her because besides being beautiful (to the guys) her character is actually very strong. Not many girls take on man-jobs and so on.

She herself is not weak (and everyone has a personality). Winry's character is strong. The only thing I think that she has a problem with is that the creator gave her a weak role in the anime.

Are you afraid of being flamed?
