This weeks ep was pure EPIC-AWESOME for edwin

Anyone notice this week fullmetal alchemist commerical cap with the voice. This week, you see a shot of Winry with a ready apple pie with Ed's automail arm in the background. Well unless it suppose to signify her love for automail, it did look cute.

Wow, I didn't really pay attention to that, thanks for pointing it out! Winry's had like 4 eye catches now I think. The apple pie reminds me of Ed's line in Chapter 84 to Winry, right before he leaves.

There were other extra EdxWin moments in the episode not really included in the manga: Winry tried to hold on to Ed's automail hand, Ed sort of ran into the room when he saw Winry (made me lol), and when Ed stared at her in the car. Overall the whole episode just gives you a feeling of cuteness <3

There was a subtle kiss on the head too. Go back and look at the beginning.

So, did anybody else squee during this episode? I sure as heck did! Especially when Winry realized she was in love with him and Ed screaming that the next time he made her cry, she'd be crying tears of joy. I absolutely loved both last ep and this week's ep too in terms of EdxWin. <333 Also, it really DOES look like Ed kissed her on top of the head right before he gave the gun to the officer. I'm SO glad BONES is keeping the EdxWin in this anime. *dances happily*

Yeah considering the many japanese fanart sites I found that is Edwin fill and the 503 festival, there seem alot more. I guess its really big in Japan. Sometimes the I wonder the irony if yaoi is more popular over here than over Japan snice its more accepted and liberal in Japan and more counterculture with conservative viewpoint(alot of people just want to be different and not like mainstream, I guess) in the US while Canon Het couples are more popular in Japan than here. Out all the 15 or so Edwin supported sites, I saw 2 links to Ed x Roy.(I close the window out of digust, no offense to those who like yaoi). This shouldn't be out of topic snice this talks about the popularity of 503/Edwin. in terms of alternative het couples, I only saw a site that is a quarter Alwin but mostly Edwin, Al is mostly coupled with May, Ling with Ranfan, and Roy with Riza on those same sites that support Edwin. So yeah Edwin is quite popular as well as other canon couples.

I'd love to compare what people ship in Japan with what people ship in the West (geeky, me? noooo). It's possible that sites that supported cannon couples wouldn't link to yaoi sites (if fans are anything like over here) so I don't know how good an indicator that is. But I'd love to think Edwin was popular.



Ahhh, it's a good life as an edwin fangirl. The over-reaction and general-obsessiveness is part of the fun. My life as an edwin fangirl started very strangely, almost as soon as Winry turned up, I shipped them. Wierd because I'm not normally that irrational...I guess it was the wrench-throwing that persuaded me, hehe.
Am I too late to proclaim my love for that picture? They're all kinds of adorable, and maybe it's just me but I haven't seen much official art of them being cute. Would give an arm and a leg and burn down my house to find out what it said.

Does anyone else who reads this topic think that it is sad Winry hasn't been seen in the manga in a VERY long time,she needs to come back!! (she hasn't been seen since chapter 84,so that's 15 chapters!).

This has been brought up in Ep 23 discussion but I'd prefer it to carry on here. A simple question really but it has a lot of explanation.

In the manga/Brotherhood, do you believe there will be a need for their love or is it just a nice added extra?

Me I still believe there is a point to it. They made such a scene of Winry realising she was in love after all. As it is, she could have just loved him as a brother and not much would have changed if you think about it. After she realises she's in love it doesn't add anything to her scenes in the manga, bar when she giving Ed Northern Automail and he blushes when he remembers Hawkeye asked him if he loved Winry.

Even if it is just for a nice event at the end, I'm sure there is purpose to highlighting romance like that.

Also, while I wouldn't say the romance is absolutely essential to the plot, I think it does serve an important purpose.

Here's just one example: remember in chapters 76 and 77, when Arakawa was really mean and decided "Hey! Let's impale Ed with a giant iron bar and see what happens!" He was lying there, dying, and then he remembered everyone who wants him to succeed. He remembered Riza, and his brother...but there was one thought that gave him the final push he needed to keep living.

And that was Winry.

The mere thought of her was enough to keep him going. If he didn't love her more than a friend, do you think he would've had the strength to get up again? Would that scene have the same amount of impact if "romance" wasn't involved?

I mean, think about it. Winry is Edward's strength (and I mean that quite literally, too). She is the one who helped him through the surgery, cooled his fever and calmed his nightmares, all those years ago. She is the one who helped him stand up and taught him how to walk again. She is the one who fixes him every time he breaks (and in more ways than one). She knocks some sense into him when he needs it and won't hesitate to beat up anyone who messes with him. She cries when he refuses to. She loves him when he cannot love himself.

If that is not "important"...and if that is not the very definition of True Love...I don't know what is.

There are really sweet little hints here in there. Ed tugging on Winry's hair and telling her to be careful around Kimblee, when Winry meets Scar again (when she treats his injury) he puts his arm around her protectively and worries that she might cry again. Also he doesn't just blush. He literally rolls off the automail table reciting the periodic table so he doesn't think of reciprocating those feelings. Also, the last time he sees her he tells her to bake him an apple pie and keep it warm for him. I think there are more than enough hints that the two are in love with each other. I think Ed is the shy type or gets embarrassed easily because one of his weaknesses IS Winry. Also, remember this is a Shounen manga. I don't think romance is actually a huge part of the story. Just enough hints to show and prove that Ed and Winry are in love and are a couple.

Ed and Winry are clearly in love with each other There are many hints to prove it, which all of you have mentioned. I think Hiromu Arakawa includes the romance for the female fans of the series,because I don't think the male fans really care for it. I just hope that by the end of the series she has them admit their feelings

I'm a male fan and I want my hero to get the hot girl and be with her, get married and have a kid and 2. Worked with DBZ. ahahha.

man just imagine if Arkawa did something like that. Fullmetal Alchemist Z and its grown Ed and his son. Winry being the protective mother which I hope would she woulndt become as crazy as Chichi.

Like Chiyo, I think that there is significance into that relationship, if only to say that it puts FMA apart from the usual Shônen where romance really is never developped.

Like Dearheart, I think that Winry is simply one of Ed's bet motivator. She's after all the only really clear thing he has to think about after everything is over, the only thing he knows he can look forward to, everything else is unknown. She is the one positive thing that drives him, the rest is more guilt than anything else. It seems egoistical, but she really is the thing he can hope to have for himself in the future.

I always thought that the mindset "I'm happy as long as the brothers are together" was... weird. That's not real life, that's not how it will happen because the two of them have such different personnalities! Ed's future will revolve around Winry, not Alphonse. That's why I think that the relationship is so important.

I see it this way. Paying the price for trying to bring back his Mother is his past, getting his and his brothers bodies back to normal is his present, Winry is his future. I'm just re-reading the manga and at one point Ed is asked about what he thinks about what will happen after they have returned to normal and the one thing he states is going back to Resembol. His brother is what he fights for now, the safety of his country is what he fights for...but if he saves both of these he has no goal.

Except for making a tempramental mechanic smile.

I just came back frm Anime weekend at Atlanta, and had Caitlin Glass and Vic panel, I asked her the question about how she thinks of the better relationship and characterization of Winry with Ed and well she didn't like how Ed left her in the movie and glad that its better in the manga and brotherhood. I even went to her autograph line and had her sign my english volume 20 at the page where Winry and Rose are talking about Ed after her bath. She's so nice and I asked her if she can one day do a scene where she tells Vic as Winry that she is pregnant and Ed is going to be father. well she laugh and I had to reassure her that its post-marriage(considering her and Vic's faith). I was really sweating and nervous upon talking to her. Yeah she is so awesome, I glad I met her and cherish the manga volume she signed. Too bad Vic signing is the next day and I can't go so he can sign it too but oh well.
