I think that Ed/Winry is cute as a friendship/brother-sister relationship. But if they ever got together, it would be awkward. And don't say it wouldn't be.

Ed/Win Status - I'm all for Ed/Win. There is a lot of proof for the couple.
Al/Win - Al is sweet, but I highly doubt Winry would date someone who is practically her little brother.

I will say it wouldn't be awkward. Maybe at first it would be, but it would almost become a comical relationship. They know how to push each others buttons, the way they wind each other up, so awkward as it may initially be I think they would combat that by bickering with each other. Neither is going to become the sentimental romantic type after all.

As for Al/Win, he's much too sweet, and currently represents younger brother to her above everything. They get along nicely, but maybe not in terms of a relationship.

Well... It seemed kinda obvious to me that Winry is that kind of girl that needs someone to argu and fight with. Edward, devilish and stubborn is like 'fitting' Winry perfectly. While Al is, as you said; Sweet and gentle. We've never seen, nor had we ever imagined that he would have a fight with Winry ;; Just my theory.

I think EdWin is basically canon in the manga -- at least, it's obvious they both (especially Winry) have feelings towards each other. Whether or not they'll get together is yet to be seen, but I'm hoping they do. Some people may disagree with me, but I honestly can't think of anyone better for Ed than Winry, and vice versa.

But admittedly, there's not much evidence in the anime, if any at all. I think their love is more of a brother/sister thing, or an unrequited love from Winry to Ed (not that Ed doesn't love Winry in a platonic way).


Well, to be fair, anime!Ed is is about as a much of a brat as manga!Ed. And Ed's matured a little (not as much as I would have liked, though. I want to whack him with a wrench sometimes too, and he's my favorite character!).

I'm going to add my name to the pile. I love the Ed/Winry dynamic. (I'm actually writing the ship manifesto for the livejournal community). I seem to like it for many reasons people cite for disliking it.

I like the 'friends developing deeper feelings for each other' cliche. I think it's really well done in the manga, without either turning into blushing twits. I like how they bicker and argue. I think it makes the relationship a little more real. Relationships aren't always flowers and sunshine so I enjoy the tension between Ed and Winry. I think it's sweet.

And it gives me loads to work with in fanfiction.

It rather irks me how many people bash EdWinry by claiming it's "Unrealistic" or "Cliché". Dude, stuff happens like that in real life all the time. In some places it's a custom, especially in Asia. Clichés are cliché for a reason.

As for the unrealistic bit --you're confusing realism with pessimism like many wangsty cynic teens these days :B.

I've actually found that most people who having lasting relationships were friends before they entered a relationship. That's not to say that it can never work out if that's not the case, it obviously does, but so many relationship start as friendship I'm honestly at a loss as to why people think this counts against Ed and Winry.

I agree with you. I actually can't see why two people (in this case, Ed and Winry) who've had close friendships from a young age can't go with each other. After all you can't expect to just grab someone from the streets and expect that you two would make a wonderful couple. They've built up all this trust during their time together which contributes to a long-lasting relationship, so if anything else, the fact that Ed and Winry are childhood friends should actually count towards them being a couple.

Yeah, I'm an edwin fan, too. I hate it when people doubt Edwin, which is really the only canon couple in the manga. If someone denies Edwinism (a new word i just made up) it's because they 1) they're an Ed fan girl that's so obsessed they don't believe he could like anyone but them 2) they only watch the anime 3) they hate childhood friendships that turn into something more. I'm pretty sure those reasons about cover it...but Edwin isn't a corny friendship-turned-into-romance thing. It's just like baKa-neKoh (welcome, BTW) said-that their past friendship has built the trust that they have between each other. And all their bickering is cute and realistic, zuppi! All the arguing just shows how close they are-even if they don't always get along, they're there for each other when the chips are down.
And after Winry admitted to herself how she felt and Ed had the whole entire spitting all over Hayate thing, we totally know they like each other.

:/ No, I mean it's a custom in a lot of places to marry someone you've known all your life, like the child of a family friend or a best friend. in places like India and Japan and etc. Also, in Indian places it's also common to marry a stepsibling, so the whole "like siblings" crap gets thrown out the window there. I should know, I'm from such a culture, and I know people who have married like that.

And yes, Zuppi, same here. Couples that bicker are so fun to play around with, and they last longer. Plus it helps that Ed and Winry are so flexible.

I am a total EdxWin supporter and I agree with the points you all have made. And forgive me if most of you already know this (which I'm sure you all do) but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere, inless it was mentioned earlier on in this thread and I didn't go back far enough but RoyXRiza fan mentioned how in the Manga Winry admitted to herself her feelings for Ed. And in a way he kinda started to admit his feelings for her as well. (Or I just got that impression) I can't remember what chapter it was. I want to say 75, it's not released yet in manga form I found the raw scans on the internet. That Winry came to winterize Ed's automail and I can't remember why but he was thinking about the talk he had with Riza and then he remembered how she asked him if he loved Winry and he started freaking out to himself and fell off the table while Winry was trying to fix him up. He kept telling him self that he had to think about something else so he just started rambling on about random stuff and Winry thought he lost it. She even makes the comment "Why do I love this weirdo?" out loud and Ed almost hears her. But she quickly changes the subject. I thought that was soo cute. I put spoiler tags around it incase no one wants to know anything yet. And If half of you already know about this chapter my apologies for repeating. :-)

I loved that scene, it was adorable. I agree with you about Ed admitting his feelings; I think he knows that he loves Winry, but I think it's going to be a while until he admits it to her or anyone else. He probably won't even mention it at all until Al gets his body back (I guess I should say "if" Al gets his body back, and if Ed and Winry live to the end -- which they better, grrrr!).

I think about... maybe 1/8 out of every FMA fan here keeps in touch with the manga scanlations? I'm not sure, that's just my estimation.

It was clear that it had a relationship between those two. I just don't understand why some of the people who came to that topic were trying to proves others relations. Whatever... So, I want to say thank you Havanese because it's the first time I can read spoilers. Each time that someone put it on that form ---> (click here to display), I was unable to read it. That was fustreting.

I just love and agree about the idea that it will have (in the mangas) a happy ending between Winry and Ed. Just to mention it, I don't understand, also, why some of you don't like Winry or Ed because they're both interesting characters. Winry have a passion with automail and Ed have a responsability to accomplish with Al. Oh and, man ! COME ON ! They're no homosexuel in FMA ! My god... I saw many forums where people like to match some guys or girls between them. Why ? I don't understant that at all. Otherwise, I know that some mangas and animes have some but not all of them.

They have so much official pictures of Winry and Ed hints. I think too that couples who are too clishes is boring but with a good story line, it's not so poor. People love that relationship between of that characters. Why ? I think that because of their interaction is so obvious and funny. When we're teenagers, we all do so mistakes in love, just by trying to find our true feelings or just by trying to say to our love a simple : '' I love you...''. So don't blame them to be shy, it's normal.

Clearly, they care deeply about eachother. Perhaps its a brother/sister love or an intimate love, or just a friendly love...but there is love there, whatever kind it may be.

Also, notice how in the show, there are moments when theyre together, and just the look in their eyes and the way they smile at eachother...

Also, in the manga, Winry admits she loves him.
Edward though, is hardheaded when it comes to the subject. He gets jumpy and defensive whenever someone mentions Winry as a girlfriend or anything closer than a friend. IF I remember correctly, in Episode 7, this happens aswell with Nina peeking over his shoulder at a letter he was writing to Winry and says, "Is she your girlfriend?"


Personally, I've always thought they were the perfect match.
Theyre alike in more ways than one, and they've been together since birth.

I can see them together...
and I have very high hopes for the manga. Even a small kiss on the cheek and an "I love you" would be fine for me, and my EdxWin fangirl hunger would be sated.

Right now, I just remember something about a proof on Edwin. In the commentaries of the movie limited edition, the american voice of Winry said the she was fustred at Ed because he never had the courage the reveal to Winry is true feelings for her. She said that Ed had feelings for his childhood friend but instead of telling her, he went away and left her behind. That's a true proof of Edwin !

Well, I LOVE Edwin! ^^ Nothing against those who don't like it, but I guess there's no doubt that they ARE a canon couple... I consider them to have a platonic relationship even in the anime, though it is not as plain and open as the manga, of course.

I think the anime doesn't pass much of that idea because Winry just doesn't appear all that much! Most the parts where she does come in the manga were changed in the anime, so we don't even have a GOOD amount of glimpse between the two to come up with anything more than a close relationship.

And I don't see it as a siblings relationship either. The way he treats her is exclusive and has just too much awkwardness for siblings.

I just want to say that Edwin has a deeper relationship in the mangas than in the anime all the way !! I repeat myself, I know, but I'm so crazy about that couple !
I just finished yesterday the 6 first books of FMA and I can tell you that we can see what I mean by that.

And Hughes even says to Winry in episode 23 (i think it's 23) that she has two brothers, when she says she wishes she wasn't an only child and she had a little sister like Elicia...
