Aisde from Eliss's point on that episode, no "best" automail was proven especially since the others were using alchemy to enhance theirs for the arm wrestling event.

Gees Kyros, stop acting like a prick. If you're going to argue, have enough respect for the people who are rebutting your arguments to make a tangible excuse or two for your statements.

Automail must be an extremely complicated device, so unless you can draft up blueprints for a a multiple jointed device with an opposable thumb that has at least the same range of movement as an organic arm and detects movement impulses from nerves, I don't want to hear that it's simple and Edward's an idiot if he can't alter anything but the shell.

It's been stated a lot in both the anime and manga that there are three components to alchemy: understanding, breaking down, and rebuilding. Unless Ed studied automail as meticulously as Winry, he wouldn't be able to get past that first part. Even if he did, it's been shown his automail's quite advanced; there were mechanics at Rush Valley who were asking Winry about the it's composition and mechanics and I think it's the Perfect Guide that states that the cost for it's parts is about the same as a high end luxury car.

He doesn't have to go in and tinker with everything in it to do that. He can repair scratches no problem too because you can tell he can do that by when he repairs Al. I said he can enhance it in little ways, not change everything about it. There are lots of things he can do with it if he wants, but he doesn't. Remember that when transmuting his automail, he's limited by equivalent exchange - he can only reshape what's there, not add extra bits. (Which is probably why he doesn't make the blade longer - it'd probably become too weak.)

Anyway.

Winry's a really important character - you can't just say to get rid of her! She's not just the love interest, she's one of Ed and Al's main supports, their only family to come back to. Even if you don't think Ed and Winry should be together (which they aren't, necessarily, she's almost more like a sister than anything), she's still very important.

Why should Ed need to learn Automail??? Pinako and Winry could make it for him. In the third epi, Ed asked for the Rockbell to make an automail to him. Because he knew they could trust them, and Winry knew them when there was a child.

Winry automail know to be important for Ed. She give everything that she could so Ed could find a way to restore their body. If he also think that Winry automail is weak, why should he ask her alot of time to be repaired?

The last two posts pretty much said it all for me.

I know he trusts Winry with his automail. I'm just saying that in order to custimize it and enhance it with alchemy, which he easily has the potential to do, he COULD read up on automail. I never said he needs to. Plus, it could probably help him too because he might find out little things about it that allow him to use it in ways he hasn't thought of. Or he could find ways to reinforce it differently in order to fashion it in more ways (like with the sword I was talking about earlier).

I posted because I thought you'd replied to my post earlier.

But as to modifying it drastically. I say if it ain't broke don't fix it. Ed's got enough stuff on his mind and having someone to help take care of the automail portion helps a bit. He ain't dead yet (though he's had some close calls) so he seems to be getting by just fine. You also have to consider balance and weight as well with the automail. Winry gave him a newer, lighter version so that he could move around more easily. Modifying it could possibly add weight he doesn't need and it could throw his balance off a little more when a weapon could have a different sense of spaceand center of balance.

Oh okay...I didn't realize that. Okay. I don't wanna sound like an arse or anything, I just think that Ed could have done more than he did, and I just don't care much for Winry. I just don't like her that much, and there is nothing that is going to change that. I will still talk about her character in the story because I'm not going to deny that she does have some influence on Ed and stuff.

Hey, you like what you like. You said your peace and we get it. It's just that when you come into a thread that's pro-a character and you announce your dislike for that character, then you'll get people that are ready to defend that character. At least it got a real discussion going.

And that's why I came here. I don't care about pissing everybody off, I just want to talk about that stuff. Why do so many people have all of these problems? I don't get all over somebody if they don't like a character that I think is cool. Just because a lot of people like somebody doesn't mean that character is awesome in everybody's opinion...argh, anyway, are there any more comments on this other than random people saying a one/two sentence post that is completely useless/spam (like ms/mr ss there)? Take it from my view, you came, stated winry was a stupid charater that shouldn't be there and left it as that. You are a highly contradicting person and even I have changed my opinions as information changed, thats what humans do, but I don't see how you went from "Winry and Ed are stupid because they aren't god" to "thats what I've been saying the whole time". Thats what I've gotten from your posts, thats more then I wanted to know about you and unless you keep your dislike closed or in the winry haters section I ask that you not do this again.

I don't care what you think is the best way to post, no two people are alike, yes, bad posts happen, I have done that before as a child, but add a little info other then "I don't like her and he's dumb" that makes no sense.
If you are going to argue this stuff, give it a little color...

Ed can't give winry 100% of his time, as much as he probly would love to someday, because he has a lot on his plate and it isn't anything he likes.
He has to fix Al, posibly fix himself (he never says I want my body back, it Get Al's body back or our bodys back which is in referance to both of them.), not die in the process, not suffer to trama (think of Ed in the Episode with Berry), keep Al alive, deal with military whim, and learn more alchemy.

As, Ed's arm gets shorter from the blade, he uses mostly small wepons because if you've his fighting spaces, 9 out of 10 times he can bearly move around.

I realized one thing, Ed has a million chances to make out with other chicks yet never does. I don't know if it's he's anti-sexual, non-sexual, or in love with winry.
definitions for those who never took psychology:
Anit-sexual: prefers no geneder or sexual contact. refuses all offers and is frightened by flirts, pick-ups and come ons.
Non-sexual: is straight,gay/les, or bi but prefers no sexual contact of any form. They are not frighten but flatered by flirts, pick-ups and come ons but refuses simply as preferacen. Has potential to accept when desired.

The EdWin fan in me is so pissed . Al's letter to her sounds like a little brother writing to his sister about how their brother has finally gotten a girlfriend. How is it that you can root for a pair for well over a year through 40 some odd eps and chapters, yet when a movie is made, someone from out of the blue (who is a mary sue more than anything) can swoop in and take him? I didn't sense much Ed/Noah at all in the film. I thought she was more into Al H. towards the end. That's what makes this letter was a stab in the heart. I mean, I knew that Ed and Winry being parted like that meant they weren't to be together. But the least they could have done was given him some random chick (the better solution would have been alter!Winry). Not someone who we know that Winry is so much better than. Gah, the manga comes out tomorrow and I SO need a pick me up. What I hate the most is that back when the scans for the movie were first coming out (months ago), I had this Ed/Noah concern. But then the manga just made me feel better about it. Heck, the MOVIE made me feel better about it. I truly felt like I just misinterpreted things. Talk about adding insult to injury. UGH. And If Ed and Noah are supposed to be living together, where the heck is Al living?!

I do think Ed's letter to Winry was weird. It's like it's too akward for him to talk to her. If she were such a sister, he'd have had a much easier time writing to her. [/spoiler]

Well, I'm still mad about it, but I'm putting it into perspective.

[spoiler]Ed and Winry most likely weren't going to be JUST for each other. It's rare in most lives that you end up having only one significant other. Ed will have girlfriends and Winry will have boyfriends. But no amount of significant others in the world will ever have the same bond that they've got. I think this letter showed it. Even though he currently is with someone, it's still hard for him to write to her and know what to say. He can't work around what he really wants to tell her (and yeah, it's a pretty big thing). It'd be too hard based on the circumstances. She is different for Ed and she will be with him every moment of everyday when he uses his left leg and right arm. He knows that too. But he's gotta move on. He's gotta live. He's gotta love. And so does she. And when they meet again to be together, they'll have hott, passionate, experienced sex.

And on a more somber note, being that BONES wanted to incorporate real history into the movie, I'll conjure up a theory that Noah and her friends don't return. They are gypsies in Germany afterall. Either they escape from the country or are captured and history takes its horrible, disgusting course. [/spoiler]

I think it was set up in letter form just as a "cute" way for us fans to get an update on them. Well, I could have surely done without that update. I have no clue how it would be delivered either actually. If it can be delivered than it means Winry can go back with whomever delivered it and jump on her man while Noah's away .

I am also now curious as to if we'll get reply letters from roy, winry, scar, etc. to the elric brothers. If that means we can get an update on their end, then the only redeeming BONES can do is to give me true Royai, but they find ways to piss over all the good pairings.

I think the adding "history" of germany to an obviusly NOT germany univeres has ruined it all. That's like giving futuristic cars to Celestail Tides, a D and D styled fanstay anime. It doesn't fit with it. Besides, if he is adding crap, why didn't he just have god come down and kill them all for no reason? that would have been better.

I dunno if that is totally true. In episode 37 when Falman is walking around looking for a girlfriend for Havoc, he asks Sheska (who is military personell) if she knows anyone that could be a good girlfriend and then she's insulted that Falman didn't ask her. And then in the manga, Roy plays chess with an old general (who we later find out is Riza's grandfather), and he asks Roy when he plans to marry his granddaughter. So I'm not sure if it is officially prohibited or not. Either way, I still have no faith in BONES (for obvious reasons).

And thanks for posting that poem. I'm sure that makes sense for every EdWin fan out there.

That is probably unlikely to happen (well, BONES will not likely do it anyway) since it'll create more problems with any type of realism/consistency with what went on in the movie (ie. Ed/Al trapped in Nazi Germany with no contact with Home World). But this may pave the way for some third party artists or fanfic writers to officially publish continuing letters and replies from the other characters... who knows

Either way, BONES will never be able to redeem themselves, so they'll suffer the eternal wrath of EdWin fans XD XD XD *jokes*

I should have rephrased that. I meant it more along the lines of the people in Amestris writing their letters to Ed and Al on their own accord not knowing that Ed and Al have written to them. Maybe by coincidence, what they wanted to write to the Elrics would have answered Ed and Al's questions.


I meant what was to happen with her after she went off with her friends. I was talking about the possibility that her and her companions may not return considering the time period.

Now that I think about those letters, I'm starting to think more and more that these were written only a little bit after Ed and Al landed there for good.  It doesn't sound like they've gotten all that settled quite yet.  Saturn Stars made a good point to me that Noah had been living with Ed and Al H. anyway, so with Al H dead, it would be just her and Ed once they returned to the house. And Ed and Noah had probably never even lived in the house with it being just those two since Al came in the picture when he returned to the our world with Ed.  And it only makes sense that Al would be living with them, so I think Al could have been writing about what was going on before he came into the picture and could have ended up possibly misinterpreted things.  The translation is from Japanese to English so tenses could vary as well.

And no, I haven't ruled out the fact that I could be totally wrong and just trying to interpret it that way to make myself feel better. I just now think that it could be arguable.[/spoiler]

Interesting theory.... though I doubt it for the fact that Al had little time to sit down and actually write a letter. Also, didn't he say that he was sorry [spoiler]to have left Winry because he just had to be with Onii-san no matter what? That can be taken before he went on a journey himself, but the way he says it (yeah, it may just be the translation), makes him sound certain that he is together with his brother and has found his brother.[/spoiler] Sorry if this is depressing you..... the realisation of all this can take some time getting used to... I took about week or so before I got over it. I hope I've interpreted what you said correctly since I haven't seem to have done that in the last few posts

I'm saying that once they got into Germany, they probably wrote them not too much later after they returned. And since the movie ended where it did, we we aren't sure what they did or didn't have time to do. Al knew that he had to be with his Niisan the moment he saw Ed about to go back. And I don't think it would take Al more than two seconds to know that he has "found" his brother because they are just that close. Yeah but I'm not sure of what frantic moment you're talking about exactly. For all we know, the first few nights Ed and Al were together they probably talked to each other and decided "hey, let's write letters!" in order to make themselves feel better. I'm sure they had a lot of catching up to do and did it quite soon. Al is an anxious youngster afterall. And since BONES didn't pinpoint exactly how long it took them to write these letters or even begin to write them, we'll probably never truly know at what point they did this. I just think that because Al hadn't added himself to the part of the equation, it hasn't been that long.

Yeah, I think you're right in assuming that Al wouldn't have been together with Ed for ages before they started writing since he didn't "add himself to the part of the equation".

Oh well, in the end, when they wrote the letters wouldn't matter I suppose. Just wait and see future developments (if any).

I read the spoilers, and I agree with some that the ending could of been better. It kinda discouraged me to watch the movie. I dunno if it's just me, but it actually sounds kinda... stupid. I mean, Ed goes to the real world? It's so.... blargh. It ruins it. FMA started out with a deep, well-written plot but then I guess the creators couldn't find a decent ending and had to come up with something totally absurd.

I dunno. I don't wanna be ripping on anybody, but I think they could of done a much better job.

Hopefully everything goes well for them in the manga. I have more faith in the manga. It's just typical for the mangaka to pair up two main characters. So... at least here's hope for them two. Even if nothing is said, I'll be happy if it's just implied.

I still wish BONES would give Winry another option for a love interest.Because from my Point of view. Bones has no intention of ever putting Winry and Edward together. I think Winry can do better then Edward and for Edward I think he needs a woman who is way more agressive than Winry. Edward needs a woman who would not back down even if she cares deeply for him. He needs a woman who will insist on knowing what's going on with him. And if he refuses to tell her, she will go on her own to find out. Maybe if winry was more insistent Edward would not always leave her behind. Or maybe Winry should just starting wearing an Alphonse mask. Because that will probable be the only way she could get some kind of affection from Edward. Even then it would end up being brotherly love. But with Winrys situation anything would be good.Just my opinion!!! I think Winry should find someone like Al. H in her world. Edward would die a lonely old man (assuming he doesn't get killed by Nazis first) .... kind of like those Greek philosophers.

We see that Winry seems to like Ed. And Ed seems to become more soft towards her during those chapters.


But in the anime, I'm not quite sure. o.O


But I think an EdxWin pairing would be excellent. They're so cute together...And although Ed has gone through more things than her. But Winry has been there from the beginning and they can somewhat relate with the parent issue. But that's just my opinion. (:

I also think, that if Winry was more insistant, Edward would only get mad. I like it how she doesn't push Ed too hard to tell her things that he wouldn't want to tell her...
