Every anime has at least one guy have long hair. I am a drawer and personally love drawing long hair. Ed's braid is sweet!

uhh, he dyed his own hair black, he didnt wear a wig. That was the part when Winry came in and said "wow" when she saw him doing that. He used alchemy to rearrange the molecules in his hair to turn it black or something like that.

I like his hair long, even though that pic of his hair short looked pretty good. but I like his hair in a ponytail better. when he has the braid, he looks cute, but with the ponytail, WOW! [spoiler]Ed's ponytail is because he lost his automail when Al restored him, and then gave up his limbs to restore Al, thusly rendering himself sans arm and leg again. He has prostheses (you can see the arm in the last episode), but they're on the level of post-WWI Europe, not even close to automail. It's almost impossible to braid one's hair one-handed; therefore, a haircut or a ponytail were Ed's only recourses. Elementary, my dear flotsam. *puffs on a bubble pipe smugly*[/spoiler]

As for my preferences, I love the braid and the ponytail equally (though the ponytail is much easier to draw), I'm also very fond of the way he loosely ties it back sometimes, like when they're working on his automail in episode 17 (I'm surprised everyone's missed mentioning that style so far), and his hair's very sexy down when he's in the shower. Past that, his kid haircut is cute, but the different hair colors look odd to me, and his cropped-short style just looks spiky and weird. (Incidentally, the way he colored his hair was by lowering the ends into a pan of dark dye and using alchemy to draw the dye up the strands and bind it to the hair molecules.)

i love Ed's hair any way, long, loose, braid, ponytail. i just don't like it short. i have a fetish for long-haired anime guys. ::drools::

and Ed is just plain hott with black hair even if he does look better in blond. heck, i even liked Ed's brown wig that made him look like Wrath.

I've recently started liking the ponytail better than the braid, especially in the manga.

Oh my, long by all means. Anime guys can pull off long hair. I really didn't like his looks when he crossed the gate for the first time in the anime...but it was kinda cute when he was a kid I'll admit that.

I think its the bangs which make him stand out, it'll be soo darn creepy without them. I've only seen chinese boys in the past that look good with long hair.
Exceptionalaities in anime

I most definately think Edward looks the best when sporting long hair. Especially when he ties it back in a pony tail ( I like the braid and it being lose as well, just not quite as much). It adds a mature and even more atractive air to Ed's overall appearence and style, which is already fantastic, but his hair style embellishes it. Ed could pull of just about any hair color and still look wonderful in my oppinion, but I really think Blonde looks the best on him. He reminded me of Alucard (Hellsing) when he died his hair black, and had the hat and shades. lol But it still looked hot.

I really like his hair down. He looks very hot that way. There was one shot of him I loved when his hair was dark...the one where Winry wanted to braid his hair and he was looking at her over his shoulder? That one... Can't decide between the ponytail and the braid...probably the ponytail, as many others have reasoned, he looks more mature that way. But he only looked cute with short hair when he was younger. That shot that was posted with the short hair is kinda freaky, IMO.

So, my opinion I guess is Loose>Ponytail>Braided>little-kid-short.

Ed's hair in a braid or down is wonderful just like that! I love his long hair....cute. Even though I prefer long hair, it won't matter to me much if he has short hair. He's still Ed no matter what to me...he's still got the same grin, same personality, heart and soul....teehee, I wuv him lots.

Ah, I have to agree with the ponytail thing, about it being sorta cute. At first it took me a minute to get use to his new look but it did in fact make him look mature. He looked cute and more adult with the ponytail. ...Made him look changed and taller....

Long hair is part of Ed's personality. Without any doubt in my mind, it is part of his rebellion against the military -despite being State Alchemist he wants to stand out of the military crowd. As an ex-soldier, I can really appreciate his gesture as the army certainly does NOT tolerate long-haired men in active duty.

Being a straight man I leave the comments on Ed's hotness with or without long hair to you ladies.

I have an obsession with guys that have long hair, anime or not (a very good guy friend on mine had extremely long hair - it looks great on him. ). Ken Ichijouji and Edward have long hair, and they're both two of my favorite Bishounen (and ironically, Paku Romi is the seiyuu for both of them! =O )

I guess I should point out that hair is really important to me. When you look for a boyfriend/girlfriend, the most important thing you look for is a good personality. But it's not lie: there's got to be an itty bitty teeny speck of looks that influences whether or not you like them/have a crush on them, etc. And people will say X part is the physical feature they pay attention to. Well, for me, one of the things that make a big difference is hair. I obsess about my own hair, so it does play a big part in deciding who I think is handsome or not.

Moving back to Edward... I know a lot of people like him with the ponytail, but since I haven't seen the end of the series, I just don't like it yet (I have seen pictures of him with the ponytail). I really really, REALLY like his braid. The only time I like the ponytail is in the movie trailers. There's one where he's bursting out of this castle with this pistol in his hand, and his hair is waving and oh... in that one moment, he's really sexy. But I have to be honest - I love the braid.

I guess the reason I don't like the ponytail as much is because: (MAJOR SPOILER)
[spoiler]Like I said, I've never seen the end of the series, so I can't picture Ed with a ponytail - I believe it was stated in one of the first spoilers that he adopts it toward the end of the series (I haven't read any spoilers since). The footage I have seen of him with the ponytail are from trailers for the movie, and the person was obviously Alphonse looking EXACTLY like Ed (I've heard that Alpohnse gets his body back, that he's in Ed's body; I don't care do know - I want the ending to be a surprise for me, please. ) So.... since it's not really Edward, I can't really place Ed with the ponytail. Ed does look alright in the movie, from the trailers I've seen, with the ponytail (in the suit), though I do stil wish he'd braid it. =P[/spoiler]

I saw on page four someone mentioned ep. 17 where it's loosely tied back; when I first read the thread, I thought about that style. It's sort of like the ponytail, but tied back at like... the nape of the neck. I like that.

I don't like Ed's hair short, except when he's little (as he gets older, his hair gets longer - I wonder if he's actually had a "real" haircut, and not just trimming his bangs). To me, it's just... no. Just no. :/

The other style I don't like is right after he takes a shower. There's this one picture of him that I'm too lazy to find, but I think it's from/ inspired by ep. 17 where he's taking a shower, and it's completely down and wavy. To me, it makes him look EXTREMELY feminine and girly. I know a lot of artists (particularly in RoyxEd pictures) like to make Ed look very feminine, but to me, he comes off extremely masculine. (In an EdxRoy relationship I wouldn't want him any other way than very masculine.) So... no to girlyness, I'm afraid. *____*

I guess my preference is: braided> loosely tied back > ponytail.

And NO to short hair for an older Edward, and NO to wet, wavy hair! (Hey look, we both have wavy hair! XD)
