I love mp3 players, but not iPods. I think that iPods are a waste of money considering that you can buy better ones at cheaper prizes. (in our currency, Philippine Peso) An iPod is about PhP15,000 (4G). meanwhile, a Flash Drive and mp3 player (1G) is only PhP6,000. And Creative has a mp3 player that looks like an iPod but is much cheaper.

MP3's are good...Atleast better than an IPOD and Cd Player.

I could really care less for MP3s *shrugs* The only time I listen to a lot of music at once is when I'm at my computer and it can hold tons more than any ipod or whatever you wanna refer to as far as storage is concerned.

iPod = Exspencive junk wich require you to install iTunes to do anything
MP3 Players= Cheaper, drag and drop.
MP3 Players dont charge you for a little picture of an apple. ><
I have a small MP3 player that looks exactly the same as a nano, £80 for an 8GB one. thats £10 per GB wich is damn cheap,

Well my Sony MP3 is messed up at the moment, or rather the loading program is. I have to use a program Sony gives you to add songs to my MP3. One day it decided not to open...and even after I removed and re-added it, it won't open and I can no longer add songs to my Mp3. No idea what to do.

I lost it, and it's godawful.
I love mp3 players, but absolutely hate the one I have

I think they'd be terrific if 1) they'd actually work 2) they weren't so expensive 3) the really expensive ones wouldn't keep breaking! >< I'm really unhappy with Apple right now... I'm totally switching to a Zune when they come out...

Are iPods really that prone to malfunction?

I've had my iPod mini for a year and a half now and it has only failed me once, but getting troubleshooting help online fixed it pretty easily. I haven't really followed the mp3 player market, so I don't know...
My one gripe is its battery life.

My ipod works fine as well, just had problems with it like 2 times, and is the first mp3 player I ever had, so i don't know either

Well, my problem w/ mine was the hard drive - it just stopped working (still under warranty) - the online help wouldn't fix it, b/c I think it was jammed or something (I'm not sure how to describe it...); so, we went to an apple store b/c on the website they made it sound like if you sent in the product to them and it wasn't broken, you'd have to pay this big fee. Well, we didn't know at the time that it was just a defective product, so we went to the apple store just in case we hadn't done the right diagnostics thingy... Well, they looked at it, told us it was just a defect, and they'd give us a new one. Well, they gave us a refurbished one... a little under two months later the backlight stops working. We take it back to the store - they give me yet another refurbished one. Three months later *it's* hard drive stops working. We take it back. (They had told us that the "original warranty had extended"...) They refuse to give us a new one b/c the "warranty" only lasted x number of days - which we had exceeded. So... I called the apple people wherever their shiny office is, and they said that since we dealt w/ it through the store, and they're not totally affiliated w/ them (WTF?!), they couldn't do anything about it. So... I got a defect, took it to the store, got another defect, took it back, got another defect, and now I'm down the hole $200 and no ipod. >< I know that this doesn't happen to everyone, but for some reason I got really, really unlucky... So, no more ipods for me - I'm going to finish using up my itunes gift cards I got for my birthday, and then I'm done!
Those Zunes are supposed to be pretty cool, though... I need to look into them more...

Ah...my wonderful iPod!
MP3s are much more helpful, because not only is it not big and clunky with you not having to buy blank cds, but they can hold SO much more than the standard CD.
Does this really need to be asked? Besides, when I am away from my computer, I prefer to have it with me for my musical needs (I am sort of a musical person).

And the poll is rather thrown aswell, grouping mp3 players with iPods.
I know 14 people with iPods in R/L, all of wich have broken ATLEAST once.
I have had 6mp3 players of increasing size,
1st got too small so I sold it
2nd I left outside and it got run over, XD
3rd and 4th got stolen,
5th was too small again so I gave it to my sister
6th I have now, perfect working condition, £80, 8gb looks exactly like a NANO and runs faster and dosnt require the bloody iTunes to use, just drag and drop.
IMO MP3>iPod anyday for the reasons of, iPods break easy, iPods are deer and mp3 players have always been more user friendly.

You know, I don't quite see any problem with grouping mp3 players with iPods because, essentially, iPod
are mp3 players.
I am thinking of selling my iPod mini. The storage is too small.

I hate it when they say it's 6GB but it's actually 5.65GB. That's a lot of space gone right there.

Only the space is different. i pod is just faster and has more space, but it still is an mp3.

iPods are essentially mp3 players yes, but they are of the stupidly expencive branded section, when I take about an mp3 player I mean unbranded flash memory format mp3 player.

iPods that use flash memory are no faster then other mp3s, most of the larger iPods are mHDDs wich IMO puts them into another catagory.
also another difference is price, with iPods you are paying for the brand rather than the hardware.
iPods also require you to use iTunes, wich for one I dont like being forced to use software, and two I just dont like iTunes.

They're useful if you're willing to shell out the money for one, and if you have enough music to actually fill it up. I mean, what's the point of buying an MP3 player or an iPod when you only have like, ten songs you want to listen to? Otherwise, it's a waste of money. I guess I'm biased 'cause I own an iPod. XD And besides, everyone's got their own tastes.
I got an iPod Nano as a graduation gift, and a small bit of the space can be used for pictures, and I can store notes in it as well, so it's not only for music. Plus, 'tis filled up nicely - I even put the 3 FMA OSTs and the Shamballa OST into it. XDDDDD

I love my little iPods! (and yes, I do have three of them) and I also have iPhone-which I am currently using as my iPod since I refused to give up my old phone- sony ericson w580i

I always bring my favourite music with me and walkmans or discmans were just too big to carry around, so go mp3 players, go!

I have a zen stone mp3 player and I got it for 30 dollers and I've had it since 08 and it runs just as good. I did get a video mp3 player for this last Christmas that was a 2gb(my zen is a 1gb) but it lasted about 4 months before it stopped working(I'm glad I had all the stuff that was on it on my zen also). I have 2 personel cd players but never use them cause they skip all the time but I do use my 2 regular cd players. mp3 players are the best so far.
