hey guys, i'm back again... as i said before, i'll be on and off this thread since i unfortunately have other things to do outside, like schoolwork
and anyone like the new icon? - bebop, trigun and evangelion have all made their way back to Adult Swim, i'm loving the new lineup...

but back to the royai goodness...

yea it definitely looks like a burn mark (unless that was just shading) which implies that it was forced on her, or done quickly since a tattoo done quickly and w/o care could burn or maim a patient (just guessing, i don't have a tattoo so i wouldn't know)...
[spoiler]but unless the insignia in the middle is just out of devotion to Roy, it had to have been forced on her... the words on the outside and the design was shaped very similar to the designs of philosopher stone insignias...
a weird guess could be that someone inscribed that on her (maybe the fuhrur/pride/wrath, since he requested her at his side to seperate her from Roy) and we know Roy was picked as a "human sacrifice" so maybe the homunculus plan on making Roy use Riza or have Riza used in some way to do their bidding...
either way, whether she did that herself or someone forced it on her, or if my weird idea is correct (which i doubt it is, i'm just throwing it out there), the insignia definetely has to do with Roy, no doubt about it... the insignia clearly belongs to Roy's technique and alchemy[/spoiler]
all assumptions, guesses and questions aside, that tattoo and naked Riza was hot
i mean, i've seen some hentai here and there, but noone matches Ms. Arakawa's drawing of Riza... i don't even care that that was her back, it was a very well drawn naked back with hints to the front (see top panel of the pg)... now that's male fan-service for you

I know what you mean. Now I'm thinking back to all the manga scenes Riza was ever in and thinking: she had a freaky tattoo on her back, even back then. What does that mean? It changes my perception of her somehow. This is huge.

I think that the tattoo looks a bit like roy's matrix...

now that u mention it, that might throw my weird theory down the drain...
after checking out the chapter 57 discussion thread here i passed a link to a forum on ZOMGFTA here which describes the tattoo and the wordings to be of Hindu Philosophic/Alchemic origin (as many know, Alchemy was studied in Egypt, India, China, and mostly in Europe... and Hinduism was practiced in India -- it's awesome how Ms. Arakawa has studied and incorparated so much history and philosophy in her work, it's one of the reasons i love FMA )

i suggest checking out the thread and the forum, as well as the link from the forum to the wikipedia site on Ishvara; if these theories are correct (which implies that the Ishabalan religion was based on the Hindu religion since the Hindu name for G-d is Ishvara (see the link)), then that tattoo could have been a scar from the Ishbalan war...
and [spoiler about the chapter's actual events] [spoiler]since we know Scar could use alchemy against Father (he has an Ishbalan tattoo) and since it seems that alchemy could be done with an array rather than with just hands (since Mei Chan drew an array and used alchemy), maybe this array can help fight against Father - the addition of Roy's flam mark could imply that Roy could use Riza to fight against Father... the possibilities are endless, it's exciting[/spoiler]
whatever theory is correct i think we can all agree that Roy is gonna have something to do with that tattoo, it's way too obvious with his flame mark in the center of it

Someone on LJ suggested it was Latin, and even tried to translate one or two of the words...

I think the tattoo's going to be an important factor to explaining Roy and Riza's relationship but it's useless now, and thus it won't be anything overly important to do with The Gate or anything, unless they manage to redo it. It'll be something to do with Ishvar, and will probably explain why Riza has such loyalty to Roy.[/spoiler]

Thank you for the links! Checked it out earlier, they have some nice theories! Anyways, here's what i have thought for the past hours...

-The tattoo was there before she got the huuuuuge scar. Because someone didn't want for the array to work anymore, that 'someone' literally destroyed the array. SO after she's wounded, Roy made her promise that she never going into some kinda 'alchemy' business anymore. That's what i think..meh.
-It has to be a burn scar, some smaller marks are in random places.
-The twin snakes are the TOTAL opposite of the orouboros, they're like, intwining.
-BTW, How did scar get his tattoo? Didn't it magically apear in his right hand from his brother's body? (or wasn't it only in the anime?) Maybe it was the same as RIza's. One day in Ishvar, someone died, and poof, there it goes to her back.
-SHe being transferred as wrath's assistant isn't coincidence. (Me thinks) There's a slight possibility that he might know about this, considering his "Ultimate eye" and connections during ishvar. (Is the Ultimate eye only in the anime?)
-Roy might or might not know about this. hehe =)

I really do love cliffhangers, but this time, bah, it's making me hate it everytime i read the chapter. =p
