I started a Royai drawing on December 31th in order to post in this thread on January the 1st for the New Year.... but I'm so slow and lazy....

Ah, the "dojinshi (同人誌.)" The word, if I'm correct, started out as the general name for privately published, (meaning, self-published) literature magazines containing original literature materials in Japn, from the amatures/semi-amatures within a circle of members of that club ("doujin", or "doujin-kai,") be it Haiku, or poems, novels and other literature materials.
(BTW, unlike fan-manga which is most often the "derivatives" of other popular/commerial materials, those literature works must be completely original, else the authors be shamed as the plagiarizers!! )
And, those clubs usually had regular/irregular meetings to get together and discuss stuff in their area of art, clitique each others' material, etc., then periodically (if it's a big and established and famous doujinkai,) or when/if the members can scrape out the funding if small/not so established doujinkai, each member will present his/her best material, then as a circle/club, put them all those materials together as a book/magazine/circulation (誌 "shi") and privately publish it to give members a chance to get their work being published, albeit self-published. And the general name for those books/magazines/circulations was (and I believe still is,) called as "dojinshi (同人誌)," mostly in the literature and art world in Japan.
Tho, these days, I believe, the ease of on-line publishing is gradually making those paper circulations/magazines becoming obsolite, and on the other hand, the word "dojinshi" is becoming quite an universal word to describe fan-works in the anime & comic fanart world.

You know the whole description you put up about doujinshi? The knaji form of the word looks a whole lot like Chinese. If I read it in Chinese, it actually makes sense. (Kinda like the title for FMA.) I guess maybe it's because Jap adapted some Chinese huh?

@SsleepyAlly - Yap, correcto about the Chinese Characters in Japanese language!!
Centuries ago, before they started using those Chinese characters, Japan did not have letters.
Then, not only they adopted Chinese characters, they also modified the forms of some Chinese letters, and created "hirakana" and "katakana," two forms of Japanese alphabets to be used along with Chinese characters in written Japanese.
And, as you know, many of those Chinese characters used today in Japanese language are still common, or very similar in forms with the ones in Chinese language, and hence, Chinese people can understand the portion of written Japanese that are in Chinese characters, and like-wise, Japanese people sometimes can understand some part of written Chinese words, (tho often they have no idea how to pronounce them other than in their own launguage.)
Hence, to them, when those words are written in Roman alphabet, sometimes it's hard to connect, yet easy to understand the meaning as soon as seeing them in Chinese characters.
(And, I believe the similar situation goes for Korean people also.) It's very interesting.

Oh, and BTW, it's OT, but... the word "Jap" used to be used as a doragotory word for Japanese people, and might be taken as offensive by some Japanese people, especially older populations.
I think it's something similar to, like calling Chinese people "Chink."
Some may mind it, some may not, so, to be safe, I usually don't use it.
I thought you might like to know.

Yes, I'm still having a lot of difficulties with the board.
Like, right now, I can't make any letters bold.
Often I have problem logging in, or posting reply, or just plain bringin up new pages...
I lost so many reply posts when my post didn't go through, now I copy and save my post every time before I hit the reply button.
I think some of the "smilies" are dissappearing, too.
It feels as if this board is slowly falling apart or something...


I'm not quite sure if there is a separate plural form for "dojinshi", or for "manga" for that matter.
The problem is that in Japanese, in general, most of nouns don't change forms when talking about multiples of that stuff. Yap, no plural forms.
It's kind of like, similar to, one sheep plus one sheep equals two "sheep" and not two "sheeps" in English, I suppose.
Similarly, I guess we could say two dojinshi, and two manga??

And, thank you for the wonderful Royai drawings!! Those are so lovely!!

I'm not having good luck trying to post Azura Elric's manga (so that I could have added more translations) tonight, so maybe I'll post more translations tomorrow, or whenever the board is coorperating.
