@jacksparrow: Thank you for filling me in with your sig. It is clear and concise. There are so many things I love about Royai that I don't think I could narrow down. But I am up to the challenge.

Hello, everyone! I signed up just to participate in this thread. Truth is, I've been a Royai fan for years, but I've only watched Brotherhood a few days ago and that completely reignited and poured gasoline all over my love for it, so to speak.
And just keep you from falling asleep (hopefully), here's a little something I whipped up:
http://durrdock.tumblr.com/post/5961904919...hter-what#notes It's not terribly presentable, and it was more of a "what if" idea that I had to get down quickly. Basically, "what if they had a daughter". That sort of thing. OCs aren't frowned upon, I hope? Technically she's just a what-if. Hello again. :9

She looks absolutely beautiful! I could really imagine her looking like that --you did an awesome job with the picture!!

We had discussions in the past as to what people could imagine Roy and Riza's child would be called etc, so I don't think OCs will be frowned upon. xP

Schnabeltier--Welcome! It's always nice to have a new face here!

I love your drawing--it's adorable! We've had several debates about what sort of children our favorite couple would or wouldn't have, so it's certainly not as though OCs are frowned upon.
We have our Royai Day festivities coming up shortly, so feel free to participate pretty much any way you want. It'll be a good way for everyone, especially our newer members, to get to know what we're like here. But, in summary, if you've only just recently found this site and haven't been lurking for a while, we're a pretty relaxed bunch who just used to freak out whenever there was a Royai chapter. We discuss all manner of Royai-related things, and there are a few threads we've also used in the Spoiler Zone of Character Discussions, so, whatever you've finished, you might enjoy checking those out, too.

Hey, guys, can someone answer a question for me? I'm still working on collecting the manga and I haven't seen all of Brotherhood yet either, so I probably just haven't come across this so far. But according to a couple throwaway lines on TV Tropes, there's a point when Roy gets Riza to blush. Is that true? If so, when is that, and what does he do?
Not in the manga... no. ^^
He does, but I don't see it as romantic. I don't remember the dialogues all that well, but it's near the end of the manga, when he says
"Oh, those pure tears, if I could see them again" at the spot where Riza went berserk on Lust, and she answers (not too happy at that memory) "I thought that water made you useless"... with a blush of embarrassment over her face.

Oh! I remember seeing that part. It's in Chapter 93.She doesn't blush in that scene of the manga... at least not like as if she's embarrassed. She's annoyed at Roy for trying to be a smart a$$. It's more like a

than a
But IF Arakawa did intend it to be a 'blush', she wasn't very happy with it, cause, really, the message didn't came through.
I know we all want to get to 'turn Royai into a more factual couple', but you guys are really reading a bit too much into some things.

I half disagree with this. Although I do think Riza was annoyed, I think she was genuinely embarrassed as well. Riza doesn't cry often, and the way Roy worded it saying how he wished she could produce such pure emotion and all, I think it's natural for her to be a little embarrassed, as well as annoyed. I don't think she was just annoyed because then she would have been just angry about the comment, and even though Roy was half-joking, I think he was half-serious as well. So I think her response is the same.
I didn't mean to analyze such a little thing so much but eh lol

I get what you mean... and you're right, in a sense. He teases her, she teases him back... that's how they work. XD
I just think that categorizing that as "Roy making her blush" will lead into something that is actually not, or making a bigger deal of something that, if it was to actually mean something, was a failed attempt. To take it into account is more of a "fangirl rambling" than anything of actual importance.
A big proof of that is that this has actually made someone come here to ask if it was true, you see, as if it were a major event that "changed things" in the manga, when, honestly, it doesn't (it's hardly even noticeable).
For me, it's very farfatched to say "Roy made Riza blush in the manga" and, for me, that's a wrong statement not because it's not there, but because that's hardly anything and, if we are after "Royai facts" that would be one of the last on my list, if it even make it in there.
But then again, noone here actually stated as a "Royai proof", as I've seen several places, of course... people here are a lot smarter than that, but I have seen people "going crazy" about this before and it sort annoyed me. lol

taking the discussion on the Hawkeye blush (which I never seemed to blush) I think it was more like: "Do not make fun of my" I really consider myself as a crazy fanatic of royai, but I did not see in that scene some indicator of romance. I think it was more related to the acid humor of mustang than anything else. Although I must confess that I got schizophrenic with that scene because the only reason that would make mourn for Riza, is to arrive to hurt Roy. So I thought:! Arakawa going to kill Roy!
@ schnabeltier hey, this very pretty picture you made of the daughter of Roy and Riza. Call it Elizabeth
Hey, one question. What activity or competition for the day we Royai?
also I have a question for discussion. In a live action. What actors would play Roy and Riza?
Roy, I think of Johnny Depp. Do not know why but I wanted to see the military uniform.
but for Riza, I can not think of any person.
That you intend to or do you think?

@
yadi ina - No competition for this year's Royai Day. This year we do Fanart/fanfic/fanworks flood
(no other activities for Royai Day celebration part, but please see my note below ^^)* This year's Royai Day 2011 is held 12 AM June 11 - 11:59 PM June 12 (in relation to the International Date Line)
* Theme: "My favorite thing about Roy, Riza, or Royai is..."
But, this year, we're planning FMA Fan Fun Festival also starting on June 11 (probably last longer than 2 days for this) in conjunction with this year's Royai Day celebration, and for this part we are planning lots of fun activities for all FMA fans, including Royai fans. Details for this will be announced soon.

That's a hard one...
I think I would put Yvonne Strahovski... just cause I like her and I think she could pull it off, being athletic and everything... And she does resemble Riza, even if just a little.
For Roy, I would say Christian Bale, for practically the same reasons. XD And the plus of him already being familiar with the "heroes environment". lol
I don't think Johnny Depp would be a good choice, though... I can't see him pulling of Roy's personality and, in my opinion, doesn't resemble Roy all that much... But, if it was in terms of resemblance, it should be an actor with a mix ethnicity (like Takeshi Kaneshiro, but, then, again, I would put Kaneshiro as Ling XD), so being part asian, especially chinese or something.

I've actually given this a lot of thought, and I've scoured through tons of photos and I've tried to recall every young actor and actress I know. I'd have to admit that it's really difficult for me to find the right Riza. Someone with features that aren't overly soft and feminine and can pull off that almost deadpan-professional look she has. So, I don't really have one for her. I've thought about this purely appearance-wise so...
I was immediately struck by Henry Cavill in this:
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_llpekrXE...huee2o1_500.pngThe girl here is Emilie de Ravin but aside from this picture I don't find her Riza-like at all.
I thought he looks like a young Roy, right around the OVA, especially in this one:
http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_llgmb4qF...hsciko1_500.jpg. It's just unfortunate that the actor has naturally curly hair so when it's grown out he looks nothing like Roy haha.

Oh dear my exact toughts...Yvonne's character was similar to Riza in some parts (in some parts okaaay) and Christian Bale is the most beautiful choice for Roy.Not to mention he always played in roles like "Magnificent Bastard" and he is an amazing actor and yeah I'm a huge Balehead there.(I couldn't even finish my sentence

And to me Bale looks like him a bit? I mean Roy's eye colour is sometimes blue and sometimes dark, and small which makes everyone to think if he has Xingese genes.Bale's eyes are small and makes his blue eyes darker because of it <3

@ the blush thing - The blush wasn’t to me a romantic kind of “OMG HE MADE HER BLUSH” moment as much as it was just part of a cute little scene of banter, not displaying a romantic relationship but the closeness between them that they tease and play around with each other like that. It was a cute, playful moment where they got to banter a bit, and it was funny to see the display of emotion on Riza’s face. With RoyAi, there’s a fine line between a ‘moment’ and what one would consider a ‘romantic moment,’ at least for me. A RoyAi moment isn’t just Roy getting jealous or the two hugging in my mind, but anytime they interact in a way that gives the reader a further glance into one of the layers of their relationship (romantic or not) because there’s a lot more to them than that (which is why we all love them, of course!) I don’t know if I make sense or if I’m rambling about nothing XD
So, I recently had a nightmare that it was the day before RoyAi day and I hadn't even begun my project yet, and I woke up thinking, firstly, why would something like that qualifty as a nightmare (shows how obsessed I am) and secondly, I reaaally need to get started. Sadly, this was over a week ago, and I haven't even begun...I'm not being a good fan right now...but all my senior events have been killing my time and energy. I'll definitely have to start on that, though.

Related to the manga, I've read fan-fics where people write about their pre-military days, (when Roy was still an apprentice) and in most fics, they are made out to be really close friends and that Roy lived with them for years. I am guessing that is what most believe it was like.
Q: What do you think their relationship was like pre-military? Do you think Roy stayed with them for years?
Not related to the manga,
Q: If Roy and Riza did have kids do you think they would pass on Flame Alchemy?

For the first one, I don't think Roy and Riza were super close before the military. I think they were friends and got along, but judging from
the grave yard scene with Riza's dad, they don't seem to be especially close. Roy didn't know Riza's opinion on him joining the military, and he didn't know that Riza was estranged from her family. And Riza didn't seem to know that Roy was planning to be in the military for the rest of his life. They just didn't seem to know each other on a deep level. I bet Roy was only there for a year or two. I don't think their closeness came until after Roy revealed his dream and Riza became inspired by him and then joined the military and Roy had her become his assistant and all that other jazz. But that's all another story entirely.
About the flame alchemy thing, I'm posative that they would
never want to teach their child flame alchemy. After the war, Riza's so devastated by flame alchemy that she
asks Roy to burn her back because she
doesn't want to create another flame alchemist. That should be proof enough that she wouldn't want anyone, let alone her own child, to learn it. And even Roy felt guilty about what he did with the alchemy Riza entrusted him with and he's seen the bad it can do and how it's dangerous and all that (the Envy indecent being a good example of how he lost himself and used flame alchemy for bad) and I don't think he'd want anyone else to have that power for the danger of it and the damage it can do that he's had to deal with. And if not even that, then at least he'd have respect for Riza's thoughts on the matter and how much he knows that flame alchemy burdens her and everything. They just wouldn't teach their child flame alchemy. Period.

Probably, Roy stayed at least a fair amount of time with the Hawkeye, but I, personally, don't think it would be more than 2, 3 years. I take he has because of Roy's attitude towards Berthold, saying that "after all this time, still don't think he's ready to know about the Flame Alchemy" and such. Unlike Ed and Al, Roy was actually living with the Hawkeyes for quite a while, as he learned alchemy, and that's for sure (not declared, but implicitly)
About his relationship with Riza, there's no clear answer. I don't think they were "the best of friends", since they both seem very formal while talking to eachother prior to the time in the military (and this includes the Ishval War), but, at the same time, I guess you could also say they were pretty close, or at least close enough to talk about really personal things and to the point of Roy feeling comfortable calling Riza "Riza"... I tend to think them in the level of "accomplices in a unfriendly environment" and probably turn to eachother for comfort, but I don't think they were all that easygoing to eachother as we see later on, as they started working together... they were friends, but reserved.
At least that's what I think.
And about the kids... definitely no. The whole saga has proven Flame Alchemy to be more of a problem than a solution and there's absolutely no need for this sort of alchemy to achieve a goal. I don't think Roy or Riza would mind their kids being alchemists and everything, but not 'flame alchemists', that's for sure.

Actually I've been thinking about this quite recently, and I don't think they really had an opportunity to interact much. I'd say they got along pretty well, but I don't think they actually knew each other at a very deep and personal level, however I think that there's a degree of trust and they're pretty comfortable with each other, as
Turdaewen said. I think he would have stayed for a few years with them. There's one issue I can't really resolve in my mind and it's the way they address each other. I get that Hawkeye called him Mustang-san / Mr. Mustang because he's probably older plus she's being polite and all, but Roy calling her Riza with zero honorifics is interesting, but I'm thinking it has to do with that trust.
They definitely would not pass on Flame Alchemy. It's very dangerous and powerful knowledge, and even if you say they'd probably teach their kid what's wrong and what's right, there are still tendencies for people to stray off their path and we've seen that the kind of power it wields is a pretty heavy burden and responsibility. The fact that Riza asks him to burn his back, and the fact that he agrees, is more than enough proof that they're aware of it, and that no one else should know how to use it.
Just for good measure, I don't think Riza would teach their kid to hold a gun either. They'd be less strongly opposed, maybe, considering Riza did hand over a gun to Ed once. Although, I suppose that was a fairly dire situation anyhow. I'm pretty sure they're the type of people to let their kids grow up to have a normal life.

I think Riza could even get to help her kids with guns... once they're grown up and IF they ever joined to military. And only in those circumstances. But she definitely will not impose that in her kids while growing up and, maybe, wouldn't be all "oh, goody" if they did decided to join the Military. It's a honorable and important job, but a heavy and demand one and I think Riza would only agree with them joining if they were fully aware of the consequences.

TwT Ask what the competition because they knew how to put it right, it relates to call. Remember that my mother language is Spanish and this is my first "Royai day" in the forum. I do not aspire to win anything.
And responding to questions from HawkseyeM1910:
1 .- I think that Roy, in fact if he lived several years with the Hawkeye, but who do not spend much time at home was Riza. Recall that she tells Roy that "fortunately her father sent her to school" I guess some kind of a student at boarding school, as his father looked so immersed in alchemy to deal with a child. So do not think possible a close relationship between them. I guess they saw little time on holiday but he studied with his father, so I was too busy to socialize. I think the close relationship born after the civil war Ishbal, when they have a common goal and come together to achieve it.
2 .- As the children and the flame alchemy.
Like everybody, I think that neither would be interested in teaching their children this power. Remember that they are working to build a better future for coming generations. It would be very sad in the end, their children had to use it.
hey, I have a question about the schedule for "royai day, if I live near California .... what time would be for me?
A Pierrot's Aria

@yadi ina Don't worry, Royai day is
not a competition --as
Tombow said in the notice above, everyone who participates in Royai day is a winner.
No voting, no prizes, no losers: It's just a way to celebrate our love of Royai with each other.
Royai day is being held from 12 AM June 11th - 11:59 PM June 12th in relation to the international date line; so no matter where you are, everyone's 11th June will be included. So just stick to those times within your own time-zone.
As for
HawkseyeM1910's question, I pretty much agree with what
xUltimate_Shieldx,
Turdaewen and others have said. I wouldn't know what else to add without regurgitating what's already been said.

And I have to say,
Lady Norbert's
Flowers of Antimony is AMAZING! I don't read fanfics too often, but this one got me hooked. I was up reading it all last night and couldn't wait to get up in the morning to finish it (which I did

). I really enjoyed it and certainly recommend it. I can't wait to start reading the next two instalments of the trilogy (which I'll be doing very soon)!

HawkseyeM1910--I agree with what everyone's said for your questions, and I have nothing original to add.
yadi ina--I see A Pierrot's Aria (Side note to her: Thank you, by the way!) already answered your question. She's correct: this is just everyone posting whatever they want that shows us why they love Royai so much, with no competition. Honestly, if you'd like to post something in Spanish and briefly summarize it as best you can in English, that would be fine; we do have a few Spanish speakers here. (I'm not exactly fluent, but I took enough that, if you're writing something and would be more comfortable doing so in Spanish but would also like a translation, I could probably help.)

Wow, did I walk in here at the right moment! Askhgasdhgwe thank you very much! I'm almost finished with
The Game of Three Generals - now that I've gotten through the most difficult chapter to write, the rest should come easily. I'll be spending Royai Day, as I mentioned before, at my goddaughter's wedding so finishing the trilogy before I leave is my contribution to the celebrations.
Again, thank you very much for the glowing review!

Agreeing with
A Pierrot's Aria. I've been reading fics lately myself, stumbled across it and I have to agree that it's got me hooked as well. I haven't gotten around to reading the third one though, but I have to say that everything was very well thought of.
LadyNorbert, congratulations on your goddaughter's wedding! The same day as Royai day? Interesting coincidence.

Now this is a good thing for me to do at Royai day, since I can't draw nor cosplay, and I can hardly write something, decent or not: to translate texts written in Spanish to English.
So you are Yai ina from Fanfiction.net? I remember reading part of "Ella jura que jamás" ("She swears never...") and liking it. I also recommended Una luz al final del túnel ("A light at the end of the tunnel") on this thread. ^^

Thank you,
Schnabeltier! Yes, they're getting married on Royai Day, and the fun part is that not only are they FMA fans themselves, but she's blonde and he has black hair! They didn't know about Royai Day, though, because they're not active in fandom; when I told them they had a really good laugh about it.

Yes, i´m Yai ina of Fandiction.net and YAiina of deviantart... (yai ina always in all forums n__n) Thanks for the offer, takes it into account for celebrate this beautiful day. I am currently working with a doujinshi project and maybe we could pass it to both languages. (If time permits, because I'm still developing the story)
Woow, you read "Ella jura que jamas"... I have only one little question about that. You support our dear Roy, or would you give a small opportunity to Josh Fokker? (I've had problems is to continue it = D)
I'm excited, and I want the day to see the work of all. = D

So... Royai Day is officially "ON" now!!! (actually, it has already started xp)
If you're in Tonga, June 11 started about 5 hours ago, for Royai fans in Tokyo, June 11 started about one hour ago, in Sydney June 11 started about two hours ago, for many South Asian Royai fans (in Singapore, Manila, Kuala Lumpur...) June 11 has just started.
Guys/ladies, you can post your Royai Day fanarts/fanfics/whatnot on this thread now.

Oh, thank you,
Tombow and
A Pierrot's Aria for starting us off right!

So, yes, let the flood continue! I'm waiting until it's Royai Day in my timezone to post my contributions, but I'll keep checking back and (at least attempting) to keep a list of who's posted what where. Remember, let us know if it has spoilers!
And have much, much fun!
My favorite thing about Royai: Ooooh... can't pick just one!

But I'd have to say that their absolute trust and loyalty are the first thing that come to mind. Their determination to stick together through whatever comes their way is amazing, and I constantly celebrate it.

Well it's been Royai Day for two hours now (in my timezone at least!), and I've been up tryinggggg to get my contributions organized

I had a little bit of trouble but I still came up with more than I thought I could. I hope you guys like them. Here we go! (and don't worry about plagiarism, the tumblr link all over the artworks is actually mine hahaha)

I drew this as a sort of... companion fanart to a fic I wrote. It doesn't spoil anything, and well it's not totally accurate with the fic.
It's called
More Than Coffee. It's a one-shot, so if you feel like reading it, just click away! Although I'm not that confident with my writing ability haha.

Here are a bunch of doodles I came up with! There were more but these are the most presentable ones!
L-R: Chibi versions of them | Out for a picnic maybe? | younger versions of them | younger versions of them if they had married early (I WISH) Roy as a young, flustered husband? Yes please.

aaand finally yeah this. Mostly a doodle that just... happened while I was working on another artwork. Couldn't resist!
Okay it doesn't really actually show but, my favorite thing about Royai is that you can see how great their dynamic is and how deep their bond. And you know that they don't really have to say anything to show they care. That's basically the collective theme, but I guess you wouldn't have known if I hadn't said so

EDIT:
A Pierrot's Aria those last few ones are great, especially the last one, it's adorable!

This year, maybe you know that,I'm doing a fanmix.I'm not posting it before my time zone (about 3-2 hours still) But I can post at least one of it's covers! (It has 8 covers,really...) My bff,Selva, did it for me,thanks a lot to her.Let's wish she can start to FMA soon! I'm trying to convince her to watch but she ignores it..
I'll post to links tomorrow! (at least for me)
Happy Royai Day everyone <3<3

My favourite thing about Royai- is that it's not just some fickle teenage relationship that developed over night. Roy and Riza are older maturer and have gone through so much. They've developed a close subtle relationship which is believeable and likeable in my opinion

It's not exactly Royai day where I am located but I figured, why not celebrate it during other people's time zones ^.^
Anyway, here's a sketch I drew up earlier today, I'm not too fond of it, I think I made them look too young and I made her a little on the short side, but uhmm... I guess her work boots just giver her that much extra height >.>
http://fav.me/d3ikszoIt's not exactly Royai because it's just Riza, but I sketched this out and then colored it in for Royai day, here's the less revealing version, I suppose...if it's not all age friendly, I won't be offended if its removed

The un-cropped version is on my deviant art.
What's my favorite thing about Royai? I'll be unoriginal and say everything O.O

Lovely. I actually think they should really elope and keep their marriage secret if ever haha.

HawkseyeM1910 Oh gosh. Fanart of Riza's back gets me all the time hngg.
angelstar2408 Your poem was especially beautiful, I love that you detailed so much of their lives together ♥

Happy Royai Day, everyone! Sadly, I was unable to finish the Elemental Chess Trilogy in time, because of work and all the preparations for my goddaughter's wedding (five hours away now, and it turns out that I'm actually IN the wedding - surprise!), but for those of you who haven't read it at all, it is chock-full of Royai goodness. I think it became really clear during the writing of it that Royai is my favorite couple in this fandom; I would venture to say they're one of my favorite couples in
any fandom.
I love Royai because of the way it's made beautifully and subtly obvious that these two can't live without each other - or rather, they could, but they don't want to and in a way they refuse to do it. I also love the fact that they have been in love for so long.
I'd continue singing my praises of the pairing, but I've gotta get ready for the wedding.

Hope you all have a great weekend - I'm looking forward to checking out all the art and fic when I'm back to my regular life on Monday! (Though I did read
jellyjay's fic last night and it's great!)
