I really want to do some fanart for Royai day, but I was also thinking of trying a short animation instead. It's been a while since I've done traditional animation. It probably wouldn't be done in time for Royai Day, but I could try for it anyway! Think I still have some animation paper around and I know I still have my pegs and lightboard... wait.. I haven't seen my lightboard in a while... o_o *rushes off to find it*

I've been reading around on various forums, and it seems Episode 59 has won over quite a few new Royai fans. People who didn't ship them before are suddenly finding themselves "Awwww"-ing over the pairing biggrin.gif Not that I blame them. The Royai in that episode is impossible to resist.

I wish I could do something to contribute to Royai Day, but I'm right in the middle of studying for exams, so I probably won't get time to write any fic or anything. I'll just have to enjoy what goodies you guys bring to the thread biggrin.gif

Yeah, the recent events of the manga and brotherhood does seem to have convinced some non-believers...not only with RoyAi, but also OlivierxBuccaneer, which makes me twice as happy.

I finally got around to watching 58 subbed (slow, I know, but I figure why not wait for the dub if I already know the gist of what's being said) and it was beautiful. I love how they ended with Roy saying "All right". It's a nice cliff hanger for those who haven't read the manga. Funimation's translation of the doctor referring to Riza was precious woman. I wonder if that's what they'll use in the dub.

I'm hoping to get a few fics out for the festival. Maybe some graphics.

And since it's been a couple pages:

Please follow these rules to keep this thread spoiler free until a scanlation of 108 is released:
- Comments and thoughts regarding the last chapter must be covered in spoiler tags. (This also includes comments such as "This chapter was awesome!", etc.)
- Don't use emoticons in the spoiler tags. Ex: please refrain from emoticons even to say 108 = biggrin.gif As pointed out by Hagaren_4ever, you can just uncheck the box that enables emoticons in your post, and only the text form will show up.

- Don't post links to pages of the chapters.
- Don't post pics, icons from the chapter until the scanlation is out.

HELP! The time is getting short and I just finish one chapter of my supposedly to be finish fanfic! I think the epilogue will probably in late release. lol.

Causmicfire--I think "your precious woman" sounds a little odd when spoken in English, though. They're going to have to be careful about how they word that so as not to make it something it really isn't while making it sound natural. Definitely not "lover" or "girlfriend" or anything like that... Maybe something like, "Someone so precious to you is dying in front of you, and you're going to do nothing?" or "Will you let someone so important to you die?" I don't know if either would fit, but to me, it sounds better. Even a sarcastically sneered, "your precious lieutenant" would work, I guess.

Still, that Bones ships Royai is enough for me. (Though I'm pretty sure that Funimation will sort of have to, as well. I didn't really see it so much in FMA1, but this is Brotherhood...)
Causmicfire
Did some work on extending a Riza-centric drabble. Perks - There were benefits to being one of a handful of woman in a war zone. Takes place during the Ishvalan War. Scroll down the post for a companion piece.

@JackSparrow589 - Or maybe they'll go with subordinate instead of woman.

Edited for code!fail...must be tired today...

I think they'll end up going with "precious Lieutenant" or "precious subordinate". I think that would sound better in English than "precious woman."
hand-made-city
I think 'precious woman' sounds perfectly normal in English... I'm pretty sure I've heard it in other shows and it never once sounded odd or out of place. I wonder how they will translate it though...
Aribelle
"Precious woman" never seemed strange to me, but I actually like "precious lieutenant/subordinate" better now that it's been brought up lol. It has a better ring to it for whatever reason. Less awkward, maybe. For that reason perhaps they'll change it.
jacksparrow589
Maybe I should clarify: It's "your" in conjunction with "precious woman" that doesn't quite cut it for me. Riza's her own woman. However, even though she's probably got more free reign than most as a lieutenant, she's still Roy's subordinate. Er... I guess they deserted, but Goldtooth wouldn't know that, and they still hold to formalities when speaking, anyway...
FMAobsessed
When spoliers for the last chapter are going to be released, I am only going to check this thread and the general things such as last song you listened to. I will have to use all my will power to not look at spoilers. Usually I hit the thread that says chapter blah blah spoilers inside, instantly and soaked up the spoilers. But I just want to take the last chapter all in at once.

Once the last chapter does come out, what do you guys think will happen to this thread and site? Also when Brotherhood ends too. Are people still going to visit and post? Because I was planning to on some things. Plus it is Roy and Riza, always find something to talk about them.
hand-made-city
Yeah, I was wondering what will happen to this thread as well... we'll all still love Royai of course! But new chapters/episodes won't come out anymore, so that excitement would go away..

Why does it have to eeeend.. Ahhh.

angelofsarcasm89
I still think "precious woman" is a good way to put it. It just seems more personal than "lieutenant" or "subordinate" and when you're trying to get someone to choose one person over the lives of everyone in the country, personal seems like a better nerve to strike at.

I thought so too.

I don't think the thread will die at all!
At least there's still the English dub, that's what I'll be continuing with anyway. I've always had such a soft spot for the FMA english dub.

That's what I'm counting on, too. xD There are so many parts that I can't wait to hear Travis doing. Although, truth be told, I don't have a soft spot for the dub, I just downright love it and enjoy it way more than watching the subs. I'm just one of those rare people who like dubs better. wink.gif
Plus, it's because of the dubs that my brother and sister like it, too, if it's subbed it's rare for them to sit and watch it (and other shows) with me; and I'm the sort who like to sit and watch with other people. biggrin.gif
Valérie
After the end of the manga/anime, they'll maybe release special OAVs with stories taking place before the end? Don't they do that for famous animes? OAVs or movies that add nothing to the story line? If so, there would always be something to discuss about in this thread. I don't think they'll do it for FMA but who knows?

If you don't know what to do for the royai day, you can still take part in my Roy and Riza my fan art contest.
I only got two drawing... ^^u

^If so, I hope that they will make one dedicated to Royai. But I think it's too much to ask.

I suppose there's still something to look forward to, I can't wait to see Travis do certain episodes.

Ehh, personally I can't stand dubs D: Meh, to each their own I suppose :3
I think the Royai (and the rest of the forums) will still be very much alive after The End... maybe a little subdued... but I think they'd be a perfect place to compile lots and lots of Royai related stuffs; from fanfiction/fanart to stuff like ''OMG today I saw a Royal Mail van and thought it said 'Royai Mail' biggrin.gif''

I'm in two minds about a spin-off chapter after The End, because I sort of want it to just finish - a clean break - cold turkey etc etc... but the idea of a mini-story after everything is really enticing o.o

That's true! I had forgotten about the dub... haven't been keeping up with it lately. I'm only on episode 6! What episode are they on now? 16 or something?

I like hearing the English voices and seeing how everything turns out, so I guess I do have that to look forward to! Ah, I feel better now.

Yep, this weekend will be episode 17.
We'll still have nearly another year of episodes and seeing how they turn out so it's not all bad. smile.gif
Kale Mustang
The dub's quite competent, though I do still have my gripes about some people's voices.

Travis' Brotherhood!Roy is leagues better than before, but it's mostly due to being both familiar with the character as well as him taking cues from Shinichiro Miki's performance compared to when he first voiced Roy (was still new to the job).

Colleen's Brotherhood!Riza's better than anime 1's, but it's during episodes 17-19 will we see her true performance.

Still, looking forward to both the new chapter and seeing the end of Brotherhood. smile.gif
spectator
Also, the next episode of dub brotherhood is a highlight. It should be talking about our beloved 'The Hawk's eye'
jacksparrow589
I don't know why, but Travis seems a little... quieter, I guess, this this time around. For now, at least, and I guess Roy's not necessarily a loud person, nor does he seem as arrogant in the manga as he does in anime1. (Basically, what Kale said, and there's more material to work off of this time around.) Still, I find that both he and Colleen have done rather well as Roy and Riza this time around.

But episodes 17-19... we get to see the whole range, there. It should be very interesting.
Kale Mustang
The fun thing about Travis and Colleen this time around is that they're both playing the characters as close as Roy & Riza can be in the manga. Throughout the commentary for ep. one on the Brotherhood DVD, they both commented about the upcoming scenes (Travis moreso than Colleen) and how the relationship between Roy and Riza was much different than the first anime.

Even Travis let slip about the tattoo scene during the commentary (though Colleen didn't really know yet) and how that fact alone made R&R so different from anime 1.

I did a quick re-reading of chapter 107 and I thought something... Maybe when Roy said "This clappy transmutation really IS convenient" or something along those lines, it was because of Riza's praise just before. XD I might be misunderstanding the situation or the little drops on his face XD, but that's what I believe to be the cause. Besides feeling relieved of an otherwise impending death, of course. laugh.gif

It's the top panel of this page.

I know translations do differ somewhat, and I don't remember what was stated in the raw, but I'm sure Riza said something good about his action and that Roy found clappy alchemy useful (I remember some other translation that stated it being otherwise sleep.gif).

clappy transmutation = alchemy under the rain = useful Roy laugh.gif laugh.gif
SneakyRuler
Nah, Roy needs to create a sparkle for flame alchemy whether or not that alchemy is provided by transmutation circle or simple hand clapping. wink.gif Useless when wet unless an umbrella is offered. biggrin.gif
jacksparrow589
Yeah, but now that Roy can use clappy transmutation, he doesn't need flame alchemy, per se. It's much more badass when he does use it, considering Ed, Al, Izumi, and Hoho kinda hold the market on clappy stuff, but at least clappy transmutation's functional in the rain!

In that panel of the raw Riza says: お見事!(Well done!) and Roy says: おお。。。手合わせ錬成はオールマイティーで便利だな。(Oh...clapping alchemy is almighty and convenient).

Personally, I think that snapping alchemy suits Roy much better than clapping alchemy.

Forsaken Love, I adore that video! It's very well made, in my opinion smile.gif

And I like the idea of Roy liking his new skills when Riza praises them XD

Has anyone here heard anything else about the english VA's thoughts on Brotherhood? I am really curious as to what Colleen thinks about Riza, in particular, because in a panel at a con when Brotherhood hadn't been announced yet, she said she hadn't read the manga at all, all she knew about was the tattoo because some fan told her or something. I'm interested to hear how her thoughts on Riza and Roy's relationship have changed now that she's (hopefully) reading the manga. Actually...come to think of it...is Travis reading the manga? It seems to me a given that they would, but maybe they're just going from the script...

Sorry, this post is really incoherent and a tad bit ramble-y, I'm just freaking out because it's all about to end!

Again, if you manage to get a hold of Funi's Brotherhood release and listen to the commentary for ep. one, both Colleen and Travis actually talk about how different these versions of the characters are compared to before. And also Travis talks about the tattoo (as he's up to date on the story) while Colleen is going with what's given to her when she reads.

And to this day it weirds me out a bit that Travis is only a few months older than me...

I just find it really cool that they acknowledge a difference in character and relationships rather than just blindly going at it. : )

And I just have to randomly mention that I was flicking through some volumes yesterday and I just loved the way Roy smiled when he says Riza has a kind heart (in the sketch in which she recieves Black Hayate.) <3

Heh, I went straight for the commentaries actually. I figured, I've already seen these dubs air, might as well listen to what they have to say - it was far more interesting. Though the commentary for ep. 10 is just completely off the wall.

But yeah, they actually like the changes as it gives more depth to the characters' relationship.
Hagaren_4ever
^ I am one of those people that quite frankly doesn't even like to be reminded of the first anime's existence. I think the manga is a million times better, and the way that they handle relationships is SO much better. And I am so glad that the first anime cast has the opportunity to be a part of this series, because a lot of anime voice actors don't actually read manga, so this stuff is all new to them. There was one convention where a fan asked Travis what 2 characters he would like to see battle, (he didn't read the manga), and he said, "Huh... well... I've actually always wanted to see Roy take on Lust." and there was this huge uproar of "He does!" "He did!" and he's like, "What's that? I kill 'er? Heh. Figures."

So yay, Travis's dream battle came true. happy.gif

Thank you. smile.gif I'd totally buy the dvds for the commentary... but alas, I haven't got the money.

As far as I know, Vic and Travis haven't read the manga because they don't have the time, but I don't know about anyone else... I'd assume the same for the others. I don't think it's a bad thing them not reading the manga, it eliminates any preconceptions they might have had about characters before doing the voice acting. I'd say that Travis is pretty on the money with Roy this time around, I think he realises he's different. Same with Colleen.

But as others have said, the next few episodes leading up to and including 19 in the dub will be a real tester!

Just episodes 1 (Travis, Colleen, Maxey & Mike McFarland) and 10 (Sonny, Laura & Caitlin).

Thank you. smile.gif I'd totally buy the dvds for the commentary... but alas, I haven't got the money.

As far as I know, Vic and Travis haven't read the manga because they don't have the time, but I don't know about anyone else... I'd assume the same for the others. I think that one of the voice actors, can't remember which now, said that they usually don't read manga in their spare time because they like a break from what they do at work. (Which is certainly understandable!) But not sure which ones that it actually applies to. wink.gif

And I'm REALLY looking forward to the upcoming episodes!

Travis admitted in the commentary that he's actually read some of the manga, but has mostly been watching Brotherhood. He's pretty up-to-date with the stuff going on now.

That's cool!

I can't watch the commentaries at this moment since my dad will be in soon and he likes to watch his own programs when he gets back from work, but by up-to-date do you mean that he's watched the episodes to where it's up to now (blinded Roy or there-abouts), or just up to where Funi have dubbed it? (I'm sorry if it's a silly question! x.x Just curious!)

I have to watch them again, but he already knows about the tattoo and then he and Mike discussed how Brotherhood in Japan was ending soon.

Awesome. At least he's interested, I mean how could he not? tongue.gif
I remember him saying that he watched the first few episodes of Brotherhood in Japanese, but can't deal with subtitles so gave up... or something like that.

^I understand.

Watching subtitle takes practices.

It's weird. I'm trilingual and usually watch any drama and animation with subtitles, even if I understand the language. Whenever there's subtitle, I couldn't resist the temptation of reading it. So, it's really hard for me to watch English movies or series without subtitle. I'm having difficult time listening to the talkings. Oh well, I guess I just need more training, which helps me get over with the boring dialogues I wrote for my fanfics.

Stupid rent sucking up all my money. I could be spending all of it on Brotherhood DVDs and more anime junk!

When these latest episodes get on DVD, I really hope Travis and Colleen do commentary on them. I especially want to hear how Travis reacts to this recent development.

I'm hoping Travis, Colleen, Mike, and Laura comment on ep. 19 - that would be awesome. biggrin.gif

Also, when they air ep. 17, I can finally hear Colleen's reply in regards when Riza asks for time off. The way she commented about it was hysterical.

^Is there other way that I can also listen to that commentary?

Probably if someone who has the dvds can rip them and post it on youtube or something. I'd do it if I could, but since I have the blu-ray version, it's not happening.
