I'm not so sure how I would react if Roy or Riza were to say "I love you" to the other..... I think that if they both survive they will end up together, but I don't think that we'll see it happen directly. Hopefully Arakawa will give us some closure-- not anything drastic or over-the-top like a straight "I love you" or a wedding, but something subtle like showing wedding rings maybe. But as much as I'd like to say I'm realistic and that I'm not expecting much, the fangirl inside of me is still dying for a wedding scene.... Go figure.

On another note, I'm amazed with all of the fantastic fan-works that came out of the Royai festival... which I missed due to my computer crashing on the day before the start. My luck is terrible. Everyone who contributed is amazing, and I compliment you all on your amazing work! I just regret I couldn't be a part of it....

By the way, could anyone tell me where the song list was posted? Any help would be much appreciated!
hand-made-city
@tasogare-san
XD Same happened to me... Tombow explained to me that it was a filter.. Hehe.

So what does everyone think of as an ideal ending for Roy/Riza in the manga? People have mentioned a wedding, wedding rings...etc. What else would you like to happen? I'm trying desperately to think of something I'd like to see... but I'm stumped. (Besides that darn kiss! Have I mentioned that enough?!) Mini Roy and Riza running around??? (KIDS?!) Lol I'd probably die of shock... Actually I've never liked that sort of thing happening in manga/anime, where the epilogue is just... everyone with KIDS! It's too weird! I'm going to leave it up to Arakawa-sensei... but still, it's nice to fantasize about the possibilities!
Miss MP
I tend to dislike Mini-mee's in manga / anime endings; it strikes me as a copout because they couldn't think of a different story for the characters other than to settle and have children. Even when the people involved are very "children" people.

Ok, I know I am going off topic again, but just wondering:

What are your predictions on what will happen next with Mustang and Hawkeye?

Right now it could go in any direction. Here are some of my thoughts:

- Mustang will continue to have Hawkeye along as support

1) However, I don't see him as so naive as to think she would be able to fend anything besides maybe chimeras off. "Bullets don't work on anything these days"

- Mustang will insist on Hawkeye fleeing

1) Naturally, Hawkeye would insist on staying with him, and then maybe it would blow into an argument with Mustang spilling the things we want to hear (for example, a less cheesy form of "Because I can't lose you too!" or "I can't let you die!" or "Because you mean too much to me!" LAWL) and then the others get suspicious EL OH EL

SO CREATIVE LAWL.

But I agree with you all - With Hawkeye and Mustang, there is no way it would be something like a straightfoward "I love you". It would definitely be a very subdued form of it, but the confirmation would be from the characters with them at the time seeing their actions.

Y tu? What do you all think?

(BTW - I don't really care if you disagree with me on these little ramblings of mine or anything. I think they might be a little too predictable with Arakawa, but it was just what I saw could happen in the current scenario.)

On the kids issue, I can see it going more towards of them just being together without children. I think they would be more than enough for each other, and I bet Hawkeye would be too focused on Mustang and her duties as well as Mustang and his duty being Fuhrer (if he becomes one, that is. Which is also debatable...I'm in the middle on that one).

I think it will most definitely be scenario one, with Hawkeye staying along and doing what she can. She's obviously limited in her abilities, and when it comes time to deal with Wrath and Pride it might be better for her to stay out of the way because

1) "Bullets don't work on anything these days!" (I love that line laugh.gif)
2) They could go after her in an attempt to throw off Roy

and so in that case I think having Riza going back to assist with some other part of the goings on would be plausible, and that would probably be mutually decided by Roy and Riza because they're pretty realistic in terms of what they can and can't do. However, if this were to be the case I think we'd definitely get a "don't die!" moment between them (aww).

But I definitely don't think that Mustang would insist that Riza flee. He's always wanted her by his side, and the only times he's suggested that she leave him were in the event of something happening to him. So I could see him saying something like "if anything happens to me please keep yourself safe", but I think he's well aware of how much he needs her around lol and so I doubt he'd want to get rid of her. Also, she would give him hell if he tried to pull something like that laugh.gif.

Yes, the lust fight! I can't wait, it'll be awesome! And Ross' great escape, Dr. Knox, the Xing gang...man I really REALLY gotta catch up on brotherhood. tongue.gif

Since Funimation messed up there for over a little three weeks, I missed like, four in a half episodes of FMA:Brotherhood. I still ain't really caught up to it yet. But from what I've herd, I don't think they have gotten that far. They are only on episode 12. 13 on Sunday. The only thing I could really think how far they are in the whole "Royai" thing, I think it's the Roy and Grumman chess scene.

Eh. That was was just to get that out there. Anyways, the scene I am looking forward to is the (don't mean to sound like a broken record when I say this but...) the Papa Hawkeye appearance. AKA chapter 58. I'm really interested in hearing his voice. Is it going to be deep, soft, high pitched? What? The suspense is basically killing me. However, I am to looking forward to the Lieutenant.Ross's "great escape". I have to say, when I read that in the Manga, I was quite sadden at this. But then a few chapters later, it's safe to sat that I was surprised when she popped right back up. It was all like, "what..?" lol. I always liked how Roy mentioned to Ed (to give him a hint that Ross was still alive) "There are many beautiful woman there." Haha. Loved that. XD

Also, did Ling ever appear in the first Anime? Some people say he did. But I don't recall ever him being there.

Meh. Went a little bit off topic there.
kkg22104
@Forgiven: It's OT, but just to answer your question, Ling was never in the first anime because the plot changed and never followed the manga. He'll be showing his face soon in FMA:B though. smile.gif

Back on topic: I agree with Aribelle, it'll probably be the first one. Mustang and Hawkeye should stick together until the end biggrin.gif

this is familiar to me...there isn't a moment like this in the manga when he went to "see" the fuhrer ? and she wait out, but before they have an argument about that she didn't want to leave with a pair of eyes of a soldier watching them" Oh...i love that scene...im going to look for it lalala biggrin.gif

Hi, Miss MP! Nice to know that the Royai brigade's still going strong! tongue.gif

It is hard to read into Arakawa's mind! She seems to enjoy putting red herrings everywhere, so that all our theories turn out wrong! That's why I kinda gave up theorising about what will happen!

As for Roy and Riza's ending... I agree with Miss MP, ending their story with one of them saying 'I love you' seems a bit too much.

I wouldn't mind, 'tho, if it finished a bit like the old anime. You remember the scene with the apple? I thought Roy had such a sweet look on his face, like he really did have one of the most beautiful thing in the world in front of him! It says a lot about his feelings, but without too much cheesiness.

Also, for some reason, I always wanted the two of them to quit the military after all of this is over. I mean, they suffered quite a lot and they always lived to help people, without caring much about their own desires. I just want them to be selfish for once! And I wonder... if they really did quit the military, what kind of job could they have?

Michiyo posted pics of Alchemist Board Clear Cards
Look at the first picture biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Thanks Michiyo!

I don't think I want "I love you"s exchange for a manga ending and any other classic expression of love. As many have said before, Roy and Riza's relationship is based on subtility, I just don't see them being that, I don't know, open? But then, if "I love you" or a wedding were to happen, I'm sure I will scream of joy behind my laptop biggrin.gif

I kinda like the scenario of "when we are alone, the colonel always calls me Riza", too bad it was just a joke!

Oh, I like this theory. About the jobs they would have, I would have to say I really couldn't imagine. Its hard to think of them as anything but members of the military.

I was thinking about it and I'd have to agree with you there. Hawkeye would honestly never leave unless she was physically forced somehow. And Wrath and Pride have both tried to use her, and know she is basically unable to fight back, as well as their strong relationship, particularly Wrath. Dammit, I really hope Wrath and Pride come back soon (not only because of the possible Royai in their return XD).

Aw, I love the 'don't die' scenes. While it is plausible that she would go back to assist the other groups, I think she has been dragged so deeply and centrally into the plot that I couldn't see her as being anywhere else but among the main group (and Roy). A 'don't die' moment would be cute, though. Maybe if she, in fact, comes along with the main gang, Mustang will say something about that, LAWL.

Especially after 94 and 95. She is the only one that can keep him stable and the man he is. Yeah, I think she is staying with him. XD He wouldn't want to be shot at, either. XD

QUOTE (Aribelle @ Jun 25 2009, 11:12 PM) *
I'm just looking forward to Riza having more expressions/emotions in general...IMO she was pretty much a robot in the first anime, and so I'm really anxious to get to the parts where she takes a more central role.

Yeah... she's so much more than the first anime showed her to be! The impression was that she was this stern and cold woman, who mattered only/mainly about her work. She's not delicate or feminine in any way, and we all know she can be all those things whenever she finds room for it. It's not because she's a woman in the military that needs to keep her co-workers on the line she has to be this ice cube that shoots her gun at anyone to impose herself
And she changes a lot herself during the series... I mean, I can never picture the pre-Ishbal Riza answering back to Roy the way she does now! She's just too pure, innocent and shy to talk back to a guy (specially Roy) the way she does. The Military made her grow and toughen up, but she's still a sweet girl, somehow (the way she hugs Hayate shows that a lot).

And about the manga's end... I don't think there'll be anything straight forward in that matter. It's not Arakawa like. At all. She's always someone to work between the lines and I don't think it would happen any differently with Royai.
I think that it might end up pretty much like Stray Dog's ending: it's not said, but you know they care for eachother and are happy to be together, in spite of everything.
I don't expect to see weddings or anything like that, unless Roy really becomes the Fürher (not that would make anything easier, as some people said about Ishval's overcoming and such. I don't think that will ever happen), but because Roy can't do this by himself, as Hughes always put it. He needs to have someone to support him and no other person can do it but Riza. I guess that's clear as crystal by now. If that happens, I can picture something like Roy giving a speech and Riza standing close by. And that's about it.

I don't think they would leave the military, either. If they do, I think it would be only Riza (but then again, she's not on the military anymore). And, if Roy survives and keeps on working to 'get to the top', I'm certainly she would want to keep an eye on him. She would not let him alone and quit being his aidee... like NEVER.
And Roy would not quit. He dedicated his entire life to become a leader and protect everybody. He already said that would be the only way he could be happy. I don't think he would give that up. Not after all Hughes, Riza, Havoc and even Ed did to make him become that person... no. Nor would these people let him quit. (even Major Armstrong showed he supports Roy as a 'leader')
I don't know... I have a feeling Roy may really become the Fürher. Which doesn't mean that everything will be a fairytale, since I don't think Amestris will be a 'nice place to govern' after the hole story is over. Roy does have a 'leader after the storm' tone to him.
I think that would be the 'adult version of happy ending', which I think is very Arakawa style. Nothing "garden renewal' King Lion style, but 'devastated, but still alive, which means we can start all over' thing.
Miss MP
As much grief as the military has given them both, I would hate to see Riza never return to it. If she adopted a "housewife" role, I would be really disappointed.

I agree... the military has become a big part of her character....... and I'd be sad to see her as an ordinary civilian... no more guns and being an awesome sniper! Heh. Anyway, I think she and Roy would probably stay with the military after all is said and done, if they truly meant what they said about making a difference in the world. And of course they meant it! So I foresee that they'll stay.. but who knows for sure, as always!
jacksparrow589
amestris_star and Kale--I totally was NOT even thinking of the 520 cenz promise when I wrote my last post. You both made my day with that one!

About Roy and Riza quitting the military after all this is over/Riza as a housewife: I don't think so. Roy's got to stay on and make that 520 cenz promise happen, and Riza's never gonna let him do that on his own!

Is Riza useless against homunculi? Should she just save herself?: Mmmm... If it were to come down to it, there's not much she can really do in her state at the moment that would destroy the remaining homunculi, but she can cause momentary distraction, and she's got a relatively cool head during tense moments. But, given how ineffective guns are against homunculi, it would probably be best for her to sit this one out. (Though she does have the uncanny ability to know when they're around.)

I like that magazine cover. I agree with you hand-made-city that cover should have Riza instead of Ed. Also I like the FMA cards that someone posted earlier. Especially the one with Roy and Riza.

Sometimes I feel that Roy and Riza are in too deep to abandon the military. Even if they succeed and the country becomes a domacracy, they would probably want to help it. I wonder if they would help rebuild Ishbal. I see them doing that.

Oh! I didn't see that Roy had flowers either. I like that cover though! Thanks for posting it smile.gif

As for whether Roy or Riza would ever leave the military - I can't see it happening. Riza does not seem like the housewife type...at all. I would be exceedingly disappointed if things turned out that way. Besides, her and Roy just don't seem like they would be all right with sitting still. I agree with FMAobsessed - I think they'll do whatever they can for the country for as long as they are able.
amestris_star
Riza wouldn't be able to stay idle not working for much... she's not the housewife type for sure. Maybe she'd enjoy some moments of quietness, so to speak, but she wouldn't stand spending the rest of her life as a housewife... And if Roy had to be president or Fuhrer or something of the like, she'd want to help him out for sure biggrin.gif

And about that pic, yep they're going out on a double date with Riza and Winry wink.gif

I think Kale or someone posted that on "FMA:B news watch" thread. (too busy to go and find the post right now. :P) Ayway, that is the cover of Animage magazine that came out a few month ago (I think XD,) in time for "White Day" in Japan. ...as you know, in Japan, "Valentine's Day" is when girls give chocolate to guys, so, one month after Valentine's Day they have "White Day," on which guys are supposed to give flowers and chocolate, etc., to girls. And, I'm guessing that's why they dressed up nicely, and Ed got some flowers. smile.gif

Yeah, I'm disappointed, too. I was really looking forward to the Roy-Grumman conversation and it was left out. dry.gif

But hopefully in ep. 15 we'll see the Barry-Riza meeting! I love Roy's jealous face when he sees them. laugh.gif
I can't wait to see that scene animated!
FMAobsessed
We have to see the Barry-Riza meeting. I hope that this second anime series won't try to cut out our Royai moments. But maybe they just want to get to the ones that were only in the manga, and not in the first series. That way things won't be repeated too much for us veteran fans.

I was extremely happy after watching the preview about Roy-Grumman chess scene last week but now I'm disappointed too..about 'marrying my granddaughter
'
conversation was cut. I personally think all the minor Royai scenes are epic to me too and hope all the minors will be shown or explained.. I can't believe that this was left out too as this conversation is completely new in the manga. ohmy.gif..Or they really think this is not important at all..sigh, let's wait the Barry-riza-roy and lust vs Roy scene to 'heal my wound'..
Turdaewen
Yeah... I'm worried about the Barry scene as well, since the preview shows that Ling will be up in ep 15, already :s Unless they show it next week on ep 14 (which I'm figuring they will, since Barry is a major piece in the next few episodes: at the Lust X Roy scene and also the whole 'killing Maria Ross'
But it's ok... I figured they would cut some stuff, and though I'm rather sad no to see it, I get why they cut it. They have bigger problems than to do fanservice for Royai fans. There's just too many things from the story to cover.

But I just can wait is for the phone conversation. XD that will be fun ^^

We have to see the Barry-Riza meeting. I hope that this second anime series won't try to cut out our Royai moments. But maybe they just want to get to the ones that were only in the manga, and not in the first series. That way things won't be repeated too much for us veteran fans.

Yeah, I think that they might cut some of the things that we saw in the first anime. For instance, the scene where Riza gets Black Hayate hasn't and probably won't happen in this series because a ) it's not really essential to the plot and b ) we saw it in the first anime. Too bad though.... I love that scene. I was actually worried when watching the first episode that they'd cut the "useless in the rain scene" because when Riza shows up with that case of gloves for Roy she says something similar. But I suppose was too important of a scene to cut. It's really too bad about the chess scene though... Really looking forward to that one.

I can't see Roy leaving the military. I'm pretty sure that if he survives this all he will become fuhrer. But I'm not sure about Riza. I can't see her leaving the military for good either, but at the same time I'm not completely sure that she'll return if she and Roy end up together. But if that were to happen I really hope that she'd go back, because Riza as a housewife would be terrible and depressing.... Unless she became an Izumi-like housewife.... Meh. It would never happen, but that would be hilarious.
RizaXRoy
@Turdaewen: Yeah, you're right...anyway,maybe I'm too obsessed with Roy and Riza. In fact, I think it would'nt be too troublesome for them to add one sentence about that conversation tongue.gif Actually I just want to strengthen a bit Royainess by having that statement. Phone conversation is nice and I'm looking forward to it, hope can watch this scene smile.gif

Sometimes I feel that Roy and Riza are in too deep to abandon the military. Even if they succeed and the country becomes a domacracy, they would probably want to help it. I wonder if they would help rebuild Ishbal. I see them doing that.

Rebuilding Ishbal [haha, I always type IshVAL] would be a way to relieve the heavy guilt on their shoulders from the past, as well as bond with others, which will only assist in changing the government / military / world.

I definitely agree that Riza needs to be /doing/ something; she likes to keep busy with something, whether it's doing her own work or nagging others to do theirs [especially Roy].

If they are going to follow the manga closely, it seems like the other moments would be important to explain bond at all; leaving out too many little moments makes people wonder why exactly they're so close.

Ohhh gosh. I haven't gotten a chance to see the epsiode yet... but now that I know the chess scene isn't the same... oh I'm so disappointed! It's been a while since we've seen Roy or Riza.. okay not really, but since the episodes only come once a week it FEELS like a longer time. I feel like the beginning episodes rushed through everything, and now things are slowing down to an unbearable pace... must be my imagination.
jacksparrow589
The chess scene in the manga, for whatever reason, didn't do it for me as much as a lot of other Royai scenes did. I'm still sad that it's missing, but it's not the end of the world. There'll be a ton of Royai coming up, unless we are thrown one gigantic curveball.

If we've got Barry coming up soon, though... THAT would be horrible to cut out. The whole thing just cracks me up. There's a ton of info in that scene that's just too important to leave out. (Unless they re-work how Barry gets into Roy & co.'s hands, but they can't! That scene is priceless!)
Alzea
I've seen only screens but from what I heard chess scene was very rushed and don't even tell me that there's no "marry my granddaughter"?! Argh, I'm in despair! T_T Ah, well, maybe this scene isn't THAT royaish but still I was so happy when I found out about Grummy and Riza and this game was kind of beginning of royai in the manga, well kind of at least. I was so happy to finally see some Royai in the FMA:B and now I have to wait till Barry will show up~ xP

Ah, btw, hello everyone, I'm back to be a pain in your lives again *evil laugh*
hand-made-city
Mm yeah... chess scene is the least important of the Royai scenes, but it was still cute! But it's alright to leave it out as long as the other parts remain IN! Not only am I looking forward to Barry... but I really enjoyed the whole scene with Elizabeth, Kate and Jacqueline (heehee)... and of course Roy coming to save Riza in the end... I just re-read that section in the manga, and now it's suddenly shot up to one of my favorite Royai moments!
Miss MP
As long as Riza unleashing fury on Lust because she thought Roy was dead is left intact, I'll be happy; it's one of my favorite moments.
The_Twilight_Trinity
Right now I'm most looking forward to the scene with Lust because that, to me, is the greatest Royai moment of all time, with the events of chapters 94 and 95 in close second. But since it will be FOREVER until we see those animated, I'll just look forward to Barry the Chopper and the "Elizabeth" scene, and after that the one with Gluttony... Then Lust.... GAAH! If only they would come out faster! There's too much good Royai to be waiting for! But even further ahead is Ishval, which I'm really just dying to see... I'm only worried that that part of the storyline might take a lot of cuts since it's background. Important background, yes, but still background.
Miss MP
I love the "Elizabeth" scene (s), so flirtatious. Still, if too much background is cut out, story will be difficult to understand, especially for first season-watchers that have to adapt to the different storyline without manga background. And the Ishval scenes should be pretty detail-intact as well, because it's setting the scene for things other than Roy and Riza's bond.
Causmicfire
So much good discussion while I've been absent!
