Maybe it will happen, and maybe not. I do not think Roy and Riza the type of couple to necessarily marry and raise a family. But being ALIVE AND TOGETHER in the end is a happy enough ending for me. (I am old, depressed, and realistic. TRUST ME. IT WORKS.) If you guys have the chance, and especially if you are into Broadway musicals at all, download the song "Being Alive" from Stephen Sondheim's musical "Company." Describes things PERFECTLY

Hmm, if I were to be honest with myself as far as what I'd want to see in a Royai ending, I'd probably say that so long as they live long enough to see some changes within the military and government for the greater good I'd be happy with that.

They already have a relationship that's probably stronger than most marriages, so whether or not they need a ring to make it official doesn't really bother me.

As far as conventions go, I'll be attending two this year (one of which I'll actually be staffing).

- Fanime in San Jose, CA (May 22-25) : it's local and my friends want to go, so I'll be going. Been considering cosplaying this year, so I'll probably pick up most of the components while there (both in the con and on the streets of San Jose)

- Anime Expo in Los Angeles, CA (July 2-5): I'll be staffing at this one (as is one of my friends) so if I cosplay, it'll be during this one. Thinking of cosplaying as Roy (not too much of a stretch for me) or Kain (I actually wear glasses already) but either way, I'll be in military blues. Debating if I want to get the black overcoat for the Roy costume (it gets really hot in LA), but I'll check out a few places before I go to AX

Riza's Name: Yeah, with the new anime coming out, I started re-reading the manga from the beginning, and Viz changed her name at least once, but they also made Ed's pocket watch gold, so I like to look at fan made translations of manga I read, or anime I watch. lol, Borders even called Mustang Colonel Mustard on their website once, you can find a screencap of it if you look through capslock_fma on livejournal.

Alzea: that's cool that your mom knows about RoyAi now. I introduced my aunt to FMA when she was staying with us for a couple months. She's seen the first anime now, and is waiting for the Funi dubs to see the second one. She would read the manga, but reading from right to left is too confusing for her. She keeps asking me if "Did they become a couple yet?" referring to both Roy and Riza, and Ed and Winry.

I always look forward to the May chapter, because I like to think Arakawa draws something a bit special since it's her birth month, and the "cow's" (Taurus) month. Last year, we got EdWin, and the year before some hints of RoyAi.

My mom also knows very little about anime and manga after all. I've never talked all that much about it to her and she never really seemed very interested. A lot better than having to work and having no time for real study.

Oh hey! We have other con-staffers on this thread! Cool. I always wanted to go to both Sakuracon-- because I hear it is a good time and AX-- because it is HUGE and there is a lot of Industry presence.

There is a convention called "Otakon" near me. It's in Baltimore, Maryland (US) and it is in July this year. It's a pretty big convention-- not AS BIG AS AX though.

Anime Boston isn't HUGE. We had about 15,000 people last year. But it's big enough to be one of those cons that "all the locals go to" so you get to see a lot of people. I work Registration too. I'm the Assistant Director of the division and it's a lot of work! Registration is one of those 'very important' departments that tends to get overlooked by attendees UNTIL SOMETHING GOES WRONG. (We had long lines last year, and no one likes waiting in line!) So we are doing a lot of re-organisation this year to prevent that.



I can buy the "one of them dying" thing. Not sure how solid the source is, but I can see that happening. It would make sense. Always had a feeling Roy would actually die in the manga... you know-- going the same way as his best friend. Probably dying because he knew too much. You have to admit, the mission that Mustang and his crew are all currently on is dangerous, and it will probably not be without casualties

I am going to Anime Boston this year, I would like to go to other conventions but I am poor. @CodenameElizabeth, so the pre-registration and registration lines are going to be better and more efficient this year? That would be great because last year I waited 8 hours in line, then the next day 8 hours again for The Pillows concert. The concert was great, but I didn't get to do all that I wanted.

I am doubtful that the interview could be false, I just don't think Arakawa would release information like that. It is possible that one of them could die, but I really don't want that.

I think it is interesting that Arakawa has Edwin and Royai moments or hints in the chapters that fall in her birthday month. Would anyone mind telling me what chapters they are? Thanks!

Yep. I'll be working as a shuttle coordinator - hence why I kinda wanna cosplay... Wielding authority over con-goers while in Amestris military blues should be most excellent.

As far as living in Dublin goes, it's pretty laid-back and it's not too far from San Jose, Santa Cruz (went there for college) & San Francisco (I work in the city). And yes, I've seen my fair share of the wild turkeys roaming around...

Best part though about living in Dublin is that most of my aunts & cousins on my mom's side (she has 3 other sisters & 1 brother) live in San Ramon & Danville, so we all live 15-20 minutes from each other.

Getting back on track, good thing the interview was a joke but at the same time it reminds me that as much as most people want at least one fluffy, happy thing to come out of the ending regarding Roy & Riza you can't always get what you want.

I've said it before and I'm sticking to it: so long as they survive the final battle together, I'll be good with it. If they kiss, I'll probably have a huge smirking grin on my face but at the same time, if it's something as simple as them holding hands in the end - that works for me too.

In short, it's nice to want things.

Ok, another reminder... Please try to avoid posting heresay and rumors, unless you know the source to be pretty reliable from your past experience with that source, etc, and also, please include the source info (where you got that info.)

Also, if possible, do your search (for example, the entries you read about that info mentioned where he/she got that info? Then please check out that source, and if that source mentions where he/she got that info, then please go check out that, and so on and on) and if possible, post the actual scan of the original article page in Japanese, etc., yes, EVEN if that is in Japanese (or, the link to it. ^^)

We have people who are capable of reading and understanding Japanese on our board, and if you post the original source in Japanese, we can check the validity/accuracy of that info very easily.

And, needless to say, please do NOT intentionally broadcast the false information for your own amusement (i.e. doing it as a prank.)

That kinda happens a lot with me, actually. I post news at a FMA sites, but there are always those who don't seem to know how to read properly and go around distorting the news I post there!! ¬¬'

Of course, we always make mistakes, but that's why I like this forum and always check it out before confirming something: there're people here that go to 2ch and people who are fluent in Japanese and can always help us ^^


Anyways, back to topic. It' pretty complicated to know the extend of what Arakawa means by 'happy ending', whatever it is, it will not be that flawless, fairytale kind of happy. And I think for Roy and Riza that's even MORE true, since, when you get a little older, things change to change a little, both the situations and how you feel about it, too.
Even if they come in terms with Ishbal, that's something that'll be part of them forever...

And, also, if Arakawa does kill one of them, I guess I could be ok with it. One of my favorite characters of all time (Spike, from Cowboy Bebop) has been bound to die since the begining of the series, but that didn't make me like the ending any less. So it depends whether it will be something you feel it's right for the story, even though it's sad. That's what I felt about this chapter 94, after the hole thing sank into me. I didn't want it to happen, but it feels very right to the story and, now, I can't see it happen any other way. It's like they HAD to go through it, someho, as complicated and sad as it may be.

Well, I know that possibility of one of them die is real, even the noodlenouille's Hiromu interview was fake.
All the deaths in FMA cause a big impact in the history and Riza's death actually can make Roy open the gate, but for this reaction from him, Hiromu will have to show us the real relashionship behind the formallities and all that stuff.
But I hope, really really hope that something like this don't happen, it's cruel give us the candy and after catch it, and one more thing, Hiromu says that the characters who are working hard are going to have their happy end. In my opinion Riza and Roy fits in this description.

I remember a while back, I don't know if it was this thread though, but people had mentioned that Roy and Riza were too old to have children. I don't think that is true. Roy is about 30 and Riza is a few years younger. They could still have children. My grandmother had my mother had 40 and my grandfather was 44, and my mom was their first child.

I don't know if it is likely if Roy and Riza have children. But I would be pleasantly surprised if in the last chapter of FMA was a fast forward a little bit in the future and Roy and Riza have a child. If that happened, I would kind of like to see them with a little boy, just because Hughes had a little girl, so if Roy and Riza had a boy, I think that would be adorable, arranged marriage anyone?

I believe that the end of the manga will have a chapter that fast forward into the future, just because when Al gets his body back, I doubt he will be 100% normal, he will probably neeed to be fed. Then there is the whole thing with the Amestris military.

Yeah, they still have plenty of time to have kids. Um, Riza is younger than thirty. PLENTY of time to have kids. It's probably best if they had children while she was in her thirties, and I like the idea of them having kids.

It's just hard to imagine at the moment because of the world they live in, but once things get settled down and they get the world 'the way they want it' or whatever you want to call it - a safer place for them to live - I'd like to think they'd want to be parents. They say that want to take on responsibilities now so that the youth don't have to fix the country, so...

And...I like the image of something like the kids asking Riza, "Can we have ice cream?" and her being like, "No, eat your dinner" and then they make puppy-dog faces at Roy and he sneaks them some when Riza isn't looking LOL something silly like that~

@ Alzea - I wish that were true for me too! No one at school knows RoyAi. In fact, none of them like FMA because they're too obsessed with shoujo. No action for them *sigh* I'm usually open to any type of manga but lately I havent been too into shoujo because they all seem the same (girl meets two guys, probably have powers, one guy is serious and the other one has anger management...)

So I try so hard to get people to like FMA, especially now that the new series JUST started but...they won't have it *cries in a corner*

It's hard to explain my obsession with RoyAi to my friends LOL They don't get the epic-ness that is RoyAi.

@ black hayate - As for songs, I think "Hand of Sorrow" by Within Temptation really shows not really their relationship, but their struggle with the Ishbal war, especially Roy's. I'm sure there are other songs I can't think of now...I know there must be...another one is "Frozen" by (again) Within Temptation (the one off their new album)

I never have energy to make MMVs, though. I've made a few in the past but they take forever. AMVs I can do, but the anime RoyAi isn't that great. I once did a RoyAi AMV with another couple to Bittersweet by (AGAIN) Within Temptation...
