The most recent chapter is great! Loved the RoyAi interactions. I really have to wonder if Riza was just calling Envy's bluff when she said Roy calls her by her name when they're alone together. Hmmm...
But yeah, someone's going to have to snap Roy out of it...><
Also, looks like the new FMA anime is doing pretty well...Young Riza has shown up in the newest episode.

I must say I'm not that worried anymore with the next chapter.
Arakawa has been nothing but fair and really creative up until now and I don't think she'll let us down. Whatever it is she has in store for FMA, I'm sure it'll be not only logic, but truly intelligent. We have almost 100 chapters of the manga so far and I've never disagreed in a particular course of action she might have chosen. And I trust she'll continue to do so 'til the end.
I'm pretty sure whatever end is in store for Riza and Roy, it will fit them just right. She loves her characters probably MORE than all of us combined and she won't kill them without a very good reason and won't give neither any less than they deserve. Whatever it is, it'll be the best for the story as a hole.
And if that fits my hopes as a Royai fan, even better. XD

Nice to see them both in the 2nd episode again...but really, I can't stand Riza's voice.
She still hasn't said an awful lot but gahhh, not for me. Roy on the other hand, I really prefer his voice actor to the previous one.

Amestris_Star, in the "old" Anime there were alot of Royai moments, really cute ^^. It's not that bad to watch it.
PS: I would love to post some of the moments in "spoilers" (yep, that black thing that won't let you read it), but the board is bugging me. It's not working properly, I can only write fast replies.

And I don't know about you guys, but I was actually a little disappointed, as a Royai fan, with the newest episode. When it kept flashing between Roy and Riza talking, they hadn't even gotten to the 'someone I must protect' part, and when they finally did, she said 'PEOPLE I must protect.' Grrrrrrrr.
Oh well, at least in the manga we know there's one specific person she's talking about, and we definitely know who it is. Yay for completely un-subtle Royai moments!

The manga rules over anything always.
It could be a translation thing though... I read somewhere that given that Japanese doesn't have plurals, the subs translated it as people rather than person, hence the error.

Hmm. I liked Mustangs "old" voice better, but that's maybe because we haven't heard new Mustangs voice in "action" yet. Riza's new voice... hmm... I like it

Hakoyanagi - Of course, being an FMA manga fan, I would translate that part as "someone," and BTW that (someone) would be a correct translation.

Hakoyanagi-I only watched the raw of the second episode, so I can't complain about translations in the moment. I'm just looking ahead to Roy vs. Lust, some of the Ishbal history, Mustang's team being split up ("They took my queen", anybody?), and the coup. Obviously, production's ahead of the episodes being shown now so whatever happens, happens. I just hope that they keep the more vital scenes in tact. (And, of course, anything that could be considered Royai, vital to the plot or not.)

I'm satisfied with both the new voices. I don't see anything wrong with them. I mean, it's a little strange, because we all got used to the old ones, but they're ok.
Even Riza's which is a little more different, she's a little more expressive than the old one. It gives less the impression that she's an ice cube. lol
And the translations are always a killer, aren't they? I actually enjoying Irie Yasuhiro's direction a lot. He's got the feeling of FMA a lot closer than the old anime. It's still moving a little too fast in these first episodes, but I figured is because they don't wanna linger too long on the 'introduction' and in stories that have already been told (even with all diferences) in the other series. I'm pretty sure they will detail a lot after the 5th Lab.
There's just so many scenes I want to see!!!
I just hope they take out none of them. XD

After watching the second episode, I'm really liking the voices a lot.
Upon Riza saying more than two lines, I think her new voice works really well as it seems like there's more of a maternal edge to it. Plus, the context of her lines seem to be within quiet conversation so I'm sure once we get to the action scenes, her voice will have more of a commanding tone.
With Roy's voice, I like that he uses 'two' voices - his 'first' voice being the one that he uses when around his friends (this includes the Elrics) which is more soft-spoken and a bit paternal. It's pretty clear that he cares for those under his command. His 'second' voice is one that we're more used to, hard-edged and commanding while also fiery and self-assured. This is the voice that probably inspires the loyalty from his friends, acquaintances, and subordinates.

All I have to say is that they better not skip over the chess scene! Come on hint to future Royai marriage!
Yeah, they made her voice a little too girly for her character or something. (Of course she was fairly young in that scene...)
I'm diggin' Roy's voice though! I'm sure Riza'a new voice will grow on me too though, we haven't really heard her full range of mood and expression yet. *crosses fingers*
Oh and that translation!! I was so excited for that scene. I was like "Wait for it, wait for it...What?! NOOOO! That's not what she says!!"
Oh well, we all know what the translation really meant. I was just happy someone took the time to sub it!

I want to hear Roys (new) voice in action. I'll have to have patience, I think next week there will be no Mustang with Riza, only Ed, Al and the fake philosophers stone *sigh*

I watched the first FMA anime series dubbed so I can't really compare the two Japanese Roy and Riza voice actors. But I do like them. Also it has only been two episodes. Sometimes it takes a little bit of experimenting by the voice actors and directors to get that certain sound. One example is The Simpsons. The Simpsons have been on US TV for twenty plus years. They have had the same voice actors, but they sounded different in the beginning because they were still 'discovering' their characters. I say give the voices some time.
Also cannot wait to see all of our favorite Royai moments animated.

When I was reading that bit, I think I was making the exact same expressions that Roy was making when he realized it was General Grumman...and then I realized that Grumman was
really getting into the role which had me cracking up afterwards.

Grumman is hilarious!! I laugh at practically any scene he's in!! He slapping Rebecca in the back was awesome XD
Speaking of Grumman, I'm still a little worried whatever he'll actually turn against the Mustang-tachi or not... I would be really sad to see such a role model to Roy and Riza's grandpa make such a pass on them! But then again, he's so slippery, he fools everyone with his intentions.
And about the dubbing I totally agree that it might take a little time for the actors to set in their characters. It's easier for Paku Romi and Rie Kugimiya, since they're already 'into the characters' they play and know them inside out. And we must remember Roy and Riza is not your normal anime characters that have little depth. It takes time to fully understand them, because they're very dimensional characters.
And the new Seijus are talented, so I'm sure they'll put their best to 'sink in'.

OKAY. Clarify for me - how exactly do we know that Grumman is Riza's grandfather again? I remember I used to think "Oh yeah, that's her grandfather." But now I can't remember how we know that. >.<;
Could anybody give me a link or just recall a situation where that was mentioned? I even reread the series and I can't find it.

DistantBlue - One of the official FMA Guidebook has a couple of entries that says he is Riza's grandfather. When/if I get the chance maybe I can dig up the scan of the pages... (Or, hopefully, some others can post the scan of one of the entries. ^^) I think it might have been posted several times on this thread alone.
I know one of them is a Character encyclopedia part of the Guidebook, and if you look up General Grumman, he is listed as Riza's grandfather. ^^

Since the book's not officially out just yet and it's kinda hard to tell from the scans, looks like we'll have to wait for someone to get a hold of the book and translate it.

Famitsu = Weekly Japanese gaming magazine that announces what games are coming out (scans come out on Wednesday nights and translations come out on Thursdays)
2ch = Japanese message board for anything & everything (closest equivalent is 4chan - google if you're unsure, but be very careful when doing so)
