Anyways, that flower shop from Chapter 71 (I think...) The owner is a member of the Armstrong family, so Mustang is obviously passing on SOME sort of code with the flowers. He mentioned to Hawkeye in 72 that he was going to "send her some flowers", and said the same thing to Armstrong in 74. Hmmmmm... suspicious methinks.

Can't wait to figure out what Armstrong has against Mustang...
And the END OF THE CHAPTER WTF??!? Not gonna mention ANYTHING because of TOTAL SPOILERS!

The Riza/Roy speaking in code scene was brilliant. (I didn't get the tapping of the mug thing until I read the translation, but the minute somoene listed the names, I knoew what she was doin' there.) Makes you wonder what 'other' sorts of secret codes those two have between themselves. Muahahaaaaa!!! XD

Everytime someone doubts whether RoiAi is indeed canonical, I point them back to chapter 20-something where Grumman wants Roy to promise that when he becomes Fuhrer, he will "Take his granddaughter as his First Lady." LOL!!!

That's what i used to point too...and of course, chapter 39 ( Riza's breakdown), but someone told me that it becomes Canon when something like the EdWin case happens =/...anyway , i just say that people have to understand that looking into a royai view Grumman scene and chapter 39 are indeed canon (because what is royai if not subtle XD)...Totally agreed.. Royai *IS* Canon XDD

( but it wouldn't hurt if arakawa gave us more evidence ^^)

And no, I don't think Royai is quite canon yet. I feel that it is canon that Riza loves Roy, that much is obvious from the breakdown, but it hasn't quite been established that Roy cares for Riza more then his other subordinates. (Though the whole hostage thing is a big step in that direction).

At this point I don't think either of them are thinking a whole lot about romance. In fact, it's likely they think that they don't have time at all for it given the scenario Roy and Riza expect to happen once they overthrow the fuhrer.

God, that chapter where Riza's explaining all this to Ed makes me cry every time.

FMA is NOT a romance manga in the least. Even the heavily-shipped pairings are at most hinted at because they are not the main focus of the manga. I'm of the mindset that NO ONE is thinking necessarily of romantic relationships right now, however, knowing who is close to them and who they can trust is integral in their reaching their final goals (perfect example of this was the whole scenario that recently happened in the North. I sensed that camraderie and trust were very strong themes throughout those chapters whether it was Olivia and her suboordinates at Briggs or Ed/Al/Winry teaming up with Scar/Marcoh/MeiChan in the fight against Kimbley.)

Wow... I've just been waiting for the 74 translation on One Manga, so I haven't said much (for me, anyway). That, and I've been busy with stuff in and out of the house. Stupid 20-year remodel. Stupid summer homework.

Anyway, about the Royai/canon thing. 'Tis true. Much as I dislike to admit it, it's not exactly canon. EdWin is, though not blatantly except for Winry saying it and Ed getting as close as he ever will to admitting it to someone else. Sad, but I think I'll live. I mean, it seems more like Roy & co. are one big, happy, somewhat dysfunctional family with all of them together. It's just that if you isolate Roy and Riza, well, I see building potential. Lots of it, too.

Also, FMA is explicitly stated as an action manga. That doesn't mean it can't have other elements, but it's certainly much more action (and heavy stuff) than romance. Romance is good and all, but it wouldn't be there without the action, wouldn't you say? Or am I just crazy?

@JS - Yeah, translations are out everywhere (except ZOMGFT. I'm still waiting.. )

And, about Royai in FMA... Haha, yeah, I would never expect Harlequin Romance Novels out of FMA. Nor I want to. So, if it has to have "Love" word uttered by one of them, or some kissing scenes or whatnot to unequivocally prove to some people that Royai is a cannon, we may never get such "proof." What I see in FMA are strong bonds, between Ed and Al, Ed and Winry, Mustang and his subordinates, and in recent chapters Olivier and the Northern "monolith" army, and yes, Roy and Riza. Some people call some of those "love," and others may call with other names. Whatever Roy and Riza have between them, I can see it's very strong, and I can see they deeply trust each other, and I dig it, enjoy it, and continue to 'ship it.
I will continue to hope for more definitive "Royai moments," but with the number of remaining FMA chapters dwindling, I will take whatever the Roy and Riza scenes I can get. (And, there are always fanfics to explore for those who need more "romance" out of FMA world. ^^)

Royai Canon: Hmmmmmm...I think there is something to be said in what has been said. But I'm also a believer in what is not said. There is a ton of evidence implying that there is something between Roy and Riza, but we will not get a straight answer, not yet anyways.

Summer Fest: I'm sorry that I've been away so much! I've PM'd Amethyst Sunset w/ a couple of ideas. I'm just trying to remember what week the Fest was to be happening in...I'll go back and look to refresh my brain.

Tombow pointed me to this place when he posted in my fanart thread. So here I am. I'm new to the board and I have a soft spot for the Roy/Riza pairing. Me stumbling upon FMA itself was pretty random, since in the first place I never considered checking it out, but one day I was bored and the article on FMA on wikipedia. Then I watched some amvs of the anime, read the first few chapters. What may have started my liking of the Roy/Riza pairing might have been the scene in the anime where Riza cries over Roy whom she believes to be dead (saw it in an amv so I didn't have the context or what happened after). It made me go "What? He dies? What happened here? I want to know." I started searching for the anime episodes but I didn't find a lot, so I read more of the manga instead.

I'm liking it a lot (especially the military parts xD I tend to read the Ed & co parts less carefully). Well, anyway I won't turn this post into an essay..

I saw Tombow already posted the one of my pictures.

and i think i know why june 11 is roiai day (i think somebody else must've thought of it too) 11th is the day of the month when shonen gangan is published in japan and why is it june there must be something 'roiai-ish' in the chapter that was published in june between 2004-2005 (since i think the term 'roiai' is used before 2006) maybe it's the first chapter where arakawa show roiai hints, or the first chapter where they showed up or the first tankoubon release (gotta check the old archives for that) i check on birthdays too but sadly arakawa-sensei is too lazy to thought up her characters' birthday so and i checked the jap seiyuu birthdays but it didn't match too (roy - toru ookawa, february 28 1960, riza - michiko neya, october 4 1965) and US seiyuu birthdays are impossible because the term 'roiai' appears long before they aired it in the US

Hi eveyone! Bleah, I did warn that I would start to get busy with school... Well, it finally caught up with me... So sorry for the long break... Can someone help with a little update here? Thanks!

Anyway, a little update on my end: I got my new laptop last Wednesday, and after two late nights, it's up and running! And the best part is that it's a tablet pc. So once this baby starts recognising my horrible handwriting, I'll be able to actually write more Royai fanfics. I'm planning to try it out for my Summer Festival piece, so pray that it works!

And I see the dates for the Summer Festival, posted so kindly by Starrie. Thanks, dear! I hope to be able to pop by more next week, especially with my timetable more stabilised. Again, this is a hope, so don't be too hopeful, alright? Heh.

Oh yes, as you all may or may not have noticed, with Chapter 12 and the Epilogue up, my vampire!Roy fanfic [u]Twilight Dreams[/i] is done! Now, assuming I'm not too late,I'll pm it to Stormie, and I can disappear for another few days... Here's a good time to thank everyone for their constructive comments and encouragement. This is one of the reasons I don't like long projects: I'm rarely very motivated. So, to have completed 13 chapters on a fanfic is quite a great achievement for me, and it's all thanks to you guys! *hugs* Heh.

About this Twilight contest thing... What the in the heck do you mean by AnythingGoes!Riza?

I haven't read any of the books mentioned and I likely will not (vampire stories are generally not my thing), so if it's from there I need a bit more help understanding.

@ Anne Packrat Hi, I know I haven't fully introduced myself, but the idea the N.C.Stormeye is proposing is loosely based off of the books by Stephanie Meyer (which I'm sure you deduced). There is a wonderful entry by A.S., but the "AnythingGoes!Riza" I'm not quiet familiar w/ myself. I'd be happy to send Stormie a PM to find out what she means. And please keep in mind that any summer-based fan fict will be added to the album.

I thought I'd have the whole weekend to draw stuff for the festival thing but it turns out I have to work. Still, it's not the whole day so I should still have time to get some stuff done.. and there's still today as well. :3

Wow, I'm off the computer because I have company for a few days and you guys get into a Loooong discussion about whether Royai is cannon or not... My very brief, belated two cents is that while a very srong relationship/bond/whatever is certainly cannon, a romantic relationship really isn't quite yet.

I'm definately looking forward to the summer festival. I'm saving the ending of In the Crosshairs for the festival!

Okay... I have an absolutely stupid question that I'm sure has an obvious answer, but how does one go about contributing to the lovely Summer Fest? Like, is the link to "A Colonel..." (I do not feel like typing the title out again, though this is actually longer.) I have somewhere back there enough, or is there something else I need to do? I mean, I've decided to submit it... so, now what?

@Desu ne? my first attempt in learning japanese is memorizing hiragana and katakana. kanji should be the last when you already understands the grammar (it's complicated)

Oh, something I remembered last night, when I went to the Anime Expo in Long Beach my sister was forced to go with me, because my dad didn't want me to be all alone in Long Beach, because it has some bad neighborhoods, so we're standing in line and I keep talking with my friend about FMA, and we mention Hawkeye more than once. Later my sister asked me who the "hot guy" was we keep talking about. lol

Lol, Causmicfire! I hope your sis wasn't too disappointed to find out that Hawkeye wasn't a hot guy! But even if she was, a picture of Roy should satisfy her!

And I agree about the family thing. They who do not know Royai love can never understand us who do. I've had similar exchanges with my family... But lucky for us, there exists this thing called the internet! And through it we can find many people who don't think we are freaks to be obsessed over some anime!

Anyway, thanks for the welcome back, guys! I just found out yesterday that there's an anime club in my university. Can't remember what it was called now, but I just might consider joining, and who knows? I might bump into more Royai fans there!
