At times like this you need Hitokiri to shut up n00bs.

Agreed. He makes my job so much easier, too.

HoboStabba, what's a "kneegrow", hmm?

To ban or not to ban . . . maybe it's too easy a question.

However, I feel lenient today. You get one more chance.

Does that mean one week ban? Or did you just give him the evil eye? :::scary music plays in the background:::

Unless he shapes up, he will be temporarily banned. So, if the next post has something inappropriate or something rather disrespectful, I'll be getting some exercise.

^How dose you logic work cofee??
Chiyo
A couple of years ago I conducted a study for my sociology coursework that was pretty much this aruguement. My theory was that people who listen to a certain type of music wear a certain type of clothing.

Results: Yes, they do. It's probably different here in the UK to other places but those who listened to rap tended to favour sports clothes or fashion. Rockers on the other hand tried to be unique, not only wearing black for example. People called 'trendies' wore whatever was in fashion and listened to all that pop that normal people despise.

And I hate to say this and please don't take it the wrong way but people on a higher intellectual level tended to favour rock over rap. Why this is I will not explain but I'm sure Bacon will at some point rolleyes.gif .
Fresh_Coffee
Chiyo: That's very intersting 0_0 I'm glad you mentioned it but I tend to like track pants and well whatever I like I wear 0_0

Monkey: Well, someday you'll learn how my logic works and pretty much smilar to homer simpsons XD *hears weird music in her mind*

I think that's a bit of an over-generalization....

And what about people who like both Rock and Rap and like to wear what's in fashion. (ala me) laugh.gif

I didn't think it was that much of a rarity to like both.
Like I said before, different music will suit the different mood you're in.

I miss the days when black people were known for jazz and blues music.

Not that I was even alive back then, but it would sure as hell beat the crap most of them are associated with nowadays. dry.gif

I'll put it bluntly: The majority of rap/hip hop makes it very difficult not to be racist against blacks for someone like me.

Thats what my results found, not what I believe. I did say tended after all. Not everybody followed the rule but you have to admit there is a connection between fashion and music taste.

Obviously, we should all know that this isn't absolute research, so let's not take this as a way to get all racist/bad mouthing, etc...But I'm glad you pointed this out as it does bring up an interesting issue. It would be nice to look more into this I think.

My opinion would be that it's probably due more to the fact that rap is appealing to an economic-social class that is not necessarily capable of obtaining the higher levels of education (i.e. financial issues, etc...)
Chiyo
Phew, thanks for not bashing me.

I suppose if I'm fair I did only study people between 15 and 19. This was my target as I think music means alot to people of this age. It was inspired by all the fights that broke out in my school over what you wore and so what music you listened to. I had a can and various fruit thrown at me because I dyed my hair a slightly dark colour and so I was a 'goth'. The fact that I wasn't actually a goth meant nothing...all they knew was I didn't listen to their music and so must be punished for it.

I loathed those years of my life. That wasn't even bullying that was what happened to most people.
Fresh_Coffee
You were labeled as a goth Chiyo, I hope I don't get labeled when I go to highschool.
Chibi-Usa
The thought of being labeled annoys me

Your intelligence CANNOT be determined by the genre of music you listen to.
Yes I agree that certain groups of people dress certain ways but you cant tar everbody with the same brush.

You talk about not wanting to be labeled and how you dislike people who do so, yet you do exactly the same thing : "listened to all that pop that normal
people despise."
You are labeling pop music fans by saying that they are abnormal.

QUOTE (What @ no bacon?,Feb 24 2005, 02:55 PM)
For those of you who chose rap, I have a question: Why? What do you like about it that you don't like about rock, or guitar music in general? Do you actually identify with its subject matter? I would find that hard to believe, since most of you seem to be white or asian teenagers who live in the suburbs.
*

First... im not white, im black
second... i see your point but rock music doesnt sound good to me
some people like it well... i just dont,
third... to me rock music sounds like a bunch of yellin with guitars
the only rock i could possibly i if had to chose listen to is the Jay Z and Linkin Park combo

i guess i like rap so much is because i can relate to the music more (not the killing and the pimping and the ghetto) just the storys that the rap tells

i guess i just like the sound of the rhyming and beats put together

cool.gif
Carnal Malefactor
Uh... all forms of music that use vocals combine 'rhyming' and 'beats'.

It's just that the vast majority of them go well beyond that, and also incorporate things like melody, texture and harmonics.
Elderberry

mellow.gif Hai...I suppose that's generally true, but I think rap and rock just make use of that in different ways...Oh, and a large portion of Japanese music barely rhymes, by the way. happy.gif

Yay! *clapclap* Ironflame-san no okage for trying to cool the argument! laugh.gif

Japan! laugh.gif I'd love to move there too! rolleyes.gif *wishful thinking*

Speaking of Japan, Japanese rap is very fun to listen to...
the ironflame alchemist
Japanese rap...interesting
one day i will find one and listen to it smile.gif

... hopefully by that time i will have already learned japanese so i can understand what they say

...But if he meant to say that I was throwing random broken Japanese around, I do take a Japanese language class in school. smile.gif

Not exactly broken Japanese, but it does get annoying after a while when you constantly insert Japanese phrases in the midst of a mainly-English paragraph. I'd rather you write in Japanese completely even though I wouldn't understand a word of that.

I listen to both rock and rap but like already has been said/implied, most rap songs suck and their music videos are not even related to the songs and are just a pathetic excuse to show barely-covered women who are desperate to prove their worth.
Chibi-Usa
Um,I'll try to curve back to the topic..........Rock is okay but I like rap a lot more
Chiyo
There we go...back on track.

Like I've said I do listen to Eminem and I've found alot of people who listen to rock will listen to Eminem (thats as in my friends NOT the public before I get bashed as I tend to here).
Fresh_Coffee
Eminem basically has to type of songs the ones where he is all serious then there are the ones where he makes fun of everyone like Britney Spears.... etc
tigohbiddies
i like both but rap has a heads up cause usually it covers different topics. while rock carrys for of the feeling cause sometime i dont know what its about but still love the song anyway
Slashrose1010
Hmmmm.... This is really hard... I think no.... maybe.. I go with ROCK! XD I love rock. I can stand very little rap. I can only listen to Jay-Z, Outkast, Eminem and a few others (Usher and Kanye too). Queen and GNR all the way!
Sith lord Revan 64
I love Rock!!

I don't really think so Rock I feel you can talk about anything really what you did for homework there is one rock song about eating food. While Rap you can cover different topics there are just the few main ones: Bling Bling, I hate Life(This is also a stereotype for rock) I'm so cool.
Slashrose1010
@Coffee: I am so glad you said that... Rock covers sooooo mcuh more than rap... I'll give you 3 completely different songs from the same band that have completely different themes: Bohemian Rhapsody, Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy, and Princes of the Universe. There, that was easy. XD Rap is all about the above^Coffee^.... That is why I hate it XD

Another random three rock songs from different artists: Where Are We Running?, Stairway to Heaven, and Ocean Avenue happy.gif (Feels like lisiting songs for some reason XD)
Blackwings
Definetly Rock!! Rap hiphop crap sucks!
Chiyo
However its difficult to escape. When I went out last night everywhere we went was mostly R'n'B and Rap and all that.
Chibi-Usa
I love R&B because its soo easy to listen too.I'm big on rap and hiphop also.

Mainstream rap just sucks. I still think 50 cents needs to stop rapping and his group g-unit. I just hate the song "I'm so fly" it just proves me right. I could name so many other songs that are about one thing : BLING BLING not to mention they always have "hot" girls in their videos. Rock really can have anything it dosen't matter XD I mean the killers have some weird songs XD they just talk about anything.
Chiyo
Well I think the results go to show who would win by a long shot don't they?
