I'm all the way with Rock! Basically for Rap it's just someone talking really fast although it takes a lot of talent. Most rap videos are about how much a person has 0_o although I have nothing aganist it.

Apart from the rap videos that show how many 'hoes' he has half naked rubbing themselves up against him/them. I do NOT need to see that much booty.

I like both. I listen to rock, when I want to relax. (Especially Grunge ). And I listen to some Rap stuff now & then.

I don't like rap, but I do like how syncopated it is. I guess if it was just a rhythm tone without words, I might actually enjoy rap (but that defeats the purpose of rap I guess )

I think he's both! I chose Rap music for the fact that it's something to dance to. Which is my second job, but we might try making up a routine with rock music. It might look like a bunch of crackheads running into one another, but entertaining none the less!

For those of you who chose rap, I have a question: Why? What do you like about it that you don't like about rock, or guitar music in general? Do you actually identify with its subject matter? I would find that hard to believe, since most of you seem to be white or asian teenagers who live in the suburbs.

I'm not a rap fan at all, but as someone who does like music and general aesthetics, I try to understand what there is to these things.

As far as message is concerned, I don't think it matters anymore. For some, I swear it's a shock value thing. They like the music only because it pisses their parents off. There is more shock content in rap than probably any other style (well, if you can understand the strange english dialect they use ).

Remember, this happens all the time. Heavy metal used to be the same way, but apparently, it's not as "nasty" as it used to be (or rather it's more acceptable these days).

Then again, I didn't grow up in the inner city during the late '40's with a frustration of how sweet swing was and needing to express inner feelings more with dissonance, but I can still legitimately like Bop music

When choosing what you want to hear, I think it all depends on the context and what mood you're in.

I find rap and hip-hop appropriate when you're in a partying kind of mood, the beats just help you get pumped up for it

Rock is equally satisfying but for different reasons.

Both genres have artists that go for more than shock value and have messages in their music... One could stereotype rock just as badly as rap is being stereotyped here.
