I must be a rebel because I have two OC's and neither of them are alchemists! They're just a couple of normal orphan kids with physical handicaps (that last part is a first for me). I've decided I'm not going to give my characters the same powers as the regulars because that's very risky business in a fanfic. I'm not above pairing them with each other, though!
Isaac and Helene Wagner are brother and sister who live on a forested mountain. Isaac is the older one and works hard to support himself and his younger sister who as been blind since childhood. They live peaceful lives until a chimera (whose origins I have yet to fabricate) shows up and terrorizes their town. Ed and Al are sent to deal with the menace and the Wagners take them in and help them track the creature, but in the fight Isaac is injured and must have his right arm amputated. Feeling responsible for him the Elrics take the Wagners to Resembool and ask Winry to make automail for Isaac. During all this Helene develops feelings for Al but doesn't know that his armor is empty. Al likes her back but is afraid she'd reject him if she knew his secret.
This wouldn't be a very epic tale, just a short story with angst, humor and romantic fluff. I have pics of these kids in my fan art thread if you're interested. If only I had the time to make this story happen.

It was a short fic, so she only got a passing mention. Her name is Marian (Don't know where the name came from), she dances with Alphonse once at a celebration (But then again, so do half the eligible girls in the village, since they all fangirl for him) She's half Amestrian, was told in her childhood that a soldier had "married" her mother though considering her age she probably figured out a thing or two. XP don't kill me.) moved into the new Ishbal village to set up medical services and help rebuild, she latched on to them quickly.

Lei belongs to the Kage Clan of Xing. Although he is not a state alchemist becuase of his fighting style and the way he uses his alchemy he is often referred to as the 'Hidden Shadow Alchemist'. He has never had a single home, he has constantly been traveling from a young age with other members of his clan. His clan wishes to master alchemy and so believes that they must understand all views of it. While he was in Ishbala the civil war broke out, Lei was a young boy but he lost his left arm, he managed to escape with his clan members, the arm has been replaced with auto mail. Although his origins are Xing he may have some Ishbala blood in him which gives him his white hair, however he has no other Ishbalan features. Now at 16 and he is own his own, his travels have taught him much but they have been dangerous and has lost all the comrades that began the journey with him. He now has a degree of understanding of almost all types of alchemy thanks to his travels. He practices what we would call ninjitsu (martial art of the ninja). Along with this he wears a completly black overall like other Xing warriors, but he does not wear a mask. He also wears gloves that have transmutation circles on that allow his to transmute earthly elements and metals. His only weapon is a pole of titainium which he has learn to transmute into multiple differnet weapons, from throwing knives to dual katanas. Not only does he use it to change it into weapons but uses it to modify his automail in various ways making it stringer or to repair it when damaged.

Earthly Armour - He can transmute the metals and ground around him to orm a type of armour. It is almost like skin in that is totally flexable and has no joints. Every movement uses alchemy to keep it fluid. There are no strength benifts form this it is purly a defensive move, it is good for defending against blades and other sharp weapons, it is weak against blunt weapons and speedy attakc sbecuase the armour slows down his movements. This can also be used for camoflauge purposes when his entire body is covered in the armour.

She also wears a black beret sometimes to hide the disturbing nature of her mismatched eyes: one (her natural eye) is blue-grey, while the other is actually a glass ball with a transmutation circle carved into it to enable it to function like a normal eye. Due to the nature of the transmutation circle, it also enables her to read others' minds.
Powers: Her prefered weapon is a light blade, with a dagger as an off-hand weapon. She can also use alchemy. In a tough fight, she uses her glass eye to predict her opponents next move.

Karen is also open to new ideals and suggestions, and likes to hear opinions of other people, whether they agree or disagree with what she believes in.
Karen's best assets are her secretarial skills and her photographic memory.

Sure, I've made up minor characters like nurses/doctors and random people, but I've never made up someone that actually has a past and is a plot device.

Denny Bloch and Maria Ross didn't have alter versions in our world in the movie so I made up alter characters for them.
Alter Maria
Maria is a young German girl living in Berlin during World War II. Her father is a member of the Nazi party. Unlike the rest of her family, Maria doesn't support Hitler or the Nazis.

Denny is a fighter pilot in the US Army Air Forces.
Their Story
Denny meets Maria while he is in Berlin. He falls in love with her at first sight. Knowing her family wouldn't approve of her being in love with an American, Maria tries to avoid him. Soon, Maria finds that she cant deny her feelings for Denny and falls in love with him too.
Soon Maria's father finds out about Maria's secret romance with Denny. Her father considers her a disgrace to the family and kicks her out of his house. Wanting to keep Maria safe, Denny comes up with the idea for her to go to America and stay with his family.
With the help of some of his army friends, Denny gets forged documents in order to get Maria out of Germany and on a ship to America. He also manages to secretly get word to his parents about Maria coming to stay with them.

Well...I have quite a few characters ( two of which, were made up long before I even saw Fullmetal Alchemist) but.. they ended up sounding coincidently like certain characters from the series ^^;
A good example would probably be my darling Samuel Hunton ( whom I created four years ago) .. he is actually a bio-scientist who specialises in making serums that alter the DNA of people and turn them into animals or animal-humans ( I suppose you could count them as chimera's created without alchemy)

For the next eight years, Samuel tried hard to find a cure for his daughter.. until one day, she escaped from the lab and Samuel fell into madness ( from the despair of losing his daughter) and just began to experiment on anyone unlucky enough to cross his path.
His victims since then have been three soldiers ( one made into a shark-man, one made into a lamphrey-man.. and the third one being made into a tiger-woman) and one little girl who was made into a cat-girl.

Science had become his favourite subject; much to his father's delight..being as the man was also a fellow scientist, Samuel stayed in school for as long as he could in order to get as much education as possible..although it was also at school; did he meet his sweetheart Marie Roberts.
In the past Samuel had quite a couple of crushes on some girls in the class that him and Shou were in, but in the end it was Marie who caught the young lad's attention.. and when she caught onto how Samuel felt about her, the two of them started going out on dates; which then spanned out into a full blown romance in just eight months.
Then just a few months before Samuel celebrated his nineteenth birthday, Marie gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who the two of them named Kushia.
Samuel and Marie thought about marrige, but decided to wait until they graduated from school; in the meantime baby Kushia would live with Marie and her parents while Samuel still lived with his Dad...and also had to go through a lecture from the man in question on 'starting things too early'
Once the two lovebirds graduated from school three years later, they finally tied the knot and became Mr. and Mrs. Hunton..and were now able to buy a place of their own so the three of them could live as a family.
Samuel then managed to get a job working alongside Shou when the latter was studying alchemy, having known each other for years made the job a lot easier for Samuel, even though he could never quite grasp the concept on how alchemy worked; he still took an interest in the art of transmutation.. he also took his time in learning about mythical creatures as well; sharing the same interest as Megara Fafnir.
After studying animals for a few years, he had then started to ponder coming up with a serum that could alter a person's DNA and actually turn them into animals themselves.
He had once suggested the idea to the military a long time ago..but as far as he knew; no one had taken any action..so he let it rest... however after his wife went missing when Kushia was eight years old, Samuel found himself drifting back to his old research almost as if it was the only thing that would comfort him..although he also made sure that he gave Kushia all the care that she needed.
The next time he made the suggestion to the military, he was surprised at how fast they'd been to reply to it this time; as well as welcome him and his research with open arms.
He was granted a job, working at one of the labs in Central and everything seemed to go just fine for two years.. Samuel was still in contact with Shou and his wife; congratulating them at the news of their own daughter being born, the job was going great..and life was good for both father and daughter.
Then when Kushia was ten years old, Samuel had finally succeeded in creating the animal serum that he'd talked about for such a long time.. however the people he worked for at the lab wanted to see whether it really was the real deal or not..
He kept them waiting for a while, being as his young daughter had started to be bullied at school..and right now he was doing everything in his power to help her, however at the same time he was getting in trouble at work because of it.
Samuel longed to visit Shou and talk to him about the current problems he was having.. but he then decided that it wouldn't be fair on his friend and went it alone.
Eventually, Samuel ended up using Kushia as a test subject for the animal serum.. the reason being? because Samuel wanted to help his little girl so that she'd never be bullied again and in a way it did work..the only problem now was that Kushia had now turned into something known as a Behometh and had to be kept in a big cage for the fear that she'd hurt someone.
After that incident, there was a noticable change in Samuel's personality.. he used to be a friendly person who was always up for a laugh or was always there if anyone needed a shoulder to cry on; after the incident he became cold and distant, caring only about his now transformed daughter.
For the next eight years he strived to find a cure for his daughter, hoping to return her back to her normal self.
However one day; something happened to the lab and Kushia ran away, causing her father to descent into despair and madness..
He now experiments on any unlucky person he can find, using a much more formulated version of the animal serum.. his reason for doing so? only time will tell....
A good example would probably be my darling Samuel Hunton ( whom I created four years ago) .. he is actually a bio-scientist who specialises in making serums that alter the DNA of people and turn them into animals or animal-humans ( I suppose you could count them as chimera's created without alchemy)

Their Story

Likes: A normal, rather boring day on patrol or the office
Dislikes: Taking orders from superiors who in his eyes have not deserved their ranks.

Joel was born to a relatively mediocre family in the south with his father working as a military officer and his mother kept a shop in Rush Valley. Joel displayed an interest for alchemy around the age of 10 and was tutored by traveling alchemists, but he sought proper training from a retired alchemist. Yet it was safe to say that Joel was very mediocre in alchemy and nothing special, but that never stopped him from studying alchemy. At the age of 16 Joel went to the tests to become a state alchemist in the central, but failed and was offered a chance to serve in the military as an officer like his father.
Joel took the job and signed up to the military academy. He finished almost at the top of his class and then got a transfer south, but as he returned he only found the ashes of what once was his home. Apparently a fire had set out for an unknown reason and it had been too late when his parents had woken up to the fire. Joel left Rush Valley and headed back to the central to once more take up the test, this time succeeding as he had never stopped studying alchemy even after his previous failure. After this test he continued to serve in the military all tough he has never received any promotions thus far, which really bugs him...

His father Alphonse Elric and mother Winry Rockabell moved to Rush Valley together in 1928. Vanroy was born two years later in 1930. He is the spitting image of his father as a child. Vanroy was named after his grandfather Van Honenheim and good friend to the Elric Brothers Mäes Hughes. From a huge age he has shown to be fairly cabable in both of his parents trades, however as he has matured he has taken a stronger interest in mechanics than alchemy. Since he was old enough to old a wrench he has helped out in his mums automail shop, one of the most popular in Rush Valley. Now 14, with a younger sister called (has yet to be names), he does alot of work fixing, building and designing automail. Van aspires to go to Briggs ever since he was 6 when Winry took him there to see how different there automail is. He is obbesed by technology and is always look for advances in technology and often tries to create new types of automail, however the automail can often be a bit disfunctional in places which has got him in toruble with Winry!!!.
Although Van has not made alchemy an important part of his life he has still learned the basics fom his Al, who in Ruch Valley is the alchemist of the town and runs a successful bulding buissness. Van sees alchemy as something that is useful for things you cant do by hand. He believes it is better to do it manually then use alchemy which he sees as a short cut or cheating.
Vanroy believes that there is not much else for him in Rush Valley and has planned to go on a journey with his best friend Robert Mustang (Rob), son of Roy and Riza who live in central. Alphonse thinks that it would be good for Van and agrres that he should go on a journey because he did the same thing and that age, but Winry is strongly against it a worried he might get hurt or catch a cold!!!!!
Weaponary
Van is skilled in martial arts and favours hand to hand combat, he is also trained in how to use a gun and is rellativly accurate. His alchemy is not used much becuase he still only knows the basics though has the capability to learn more. A new device he has creted called a Electro Automail Disrubtor, EAD. An EAD completly shuts down the automail, making it unusable until it can be restarted which usually require an automail mechanic to do. This can also be used on other electric devices if he alters it slightly.

Now 14, with a younger sister called (has yet to be names), he does alot of work fixing, building and designing automail. Van aspires to go to Briggs ever since he was 6 when Winry took him there to see how different there automail is. He is obbesed by technology and is always look for advances in technology and often tries to create new types of automail, however the automail can often be a bit disfunctional in places which has got him in toruble with Winry!!!.
Although Van has not made alchemy an important part of his life he has still learned the basics fom his Al, who in Ruch Valley is the alchemist of the town and runs a successful bulding buissness. Van sees alchemy as something that is useful for things you cant do by hand. He believes it is better to do it manually then use alchemy which he sees as a short cut or cheating.
Vanroy believes that there is not much else for him in Rush Valley and has planned to go on a journey with his best friend Robert Mustang (Rob), son of Roy and Riza who live in central. Alphonse thinks that it would be good for Van and agrres that he should go on a journey because he did the same thing and that age, but Winry is strongly against it a worried he might get hurt or catch a cold!!!!!
Weaponary
Van is skilled in martial arts and favours hand to hand combat, he is also trained in how to use a gun and is rellativly accurate. His alchemy is not used much becuase he still only knows the basics though has the capability to learn more. A new device he has creted called a Electro Automail Disrubtor, EAD. An EAD completly shuts down the automail, making it unusable until it can be restarted which usually require an automail mechanic to do. This can also be used on other electric devices if he alters it slightly.

lol winter Phantom you character history has basically changed the history of all the other characters XD, you would have thought if she was linked to so many of the character they would have met up earlier, its only an OC though lol
I had an idea once for a state alchemist who fought in the Ishballan War, but he was an Ishballan. So he tried to actually save as many people as possible. The reason he managed to not get killed was because he made contacts which made his eyes brown making him look like an Liorian. I was going to call him the Silver Knight Alchemist but I didn't know why. First it was because he wore silver contacts, another was because he got automail when he tried to bring some of his friends back to life, and the other was because he used a sword.
I then found out about Miles and thought maybe they are a bit too similar.

I came up with a major Mary-jane(Edit: I meant Mary-Sue). She's kida like wrath was before envy found him. Homunculi, but still very human. She ran away from Dante's after she was first created (she was supposed to be the sloth). She gave herself the name Diana(that is my favorite name). She appears to be like 13 or something, but she's actually older due to the whole no-aging homunculi thing. I think i made her Kimbley's little sister or something who drowned and he tried to bring back. I had a really cool name for her when she was human, but i can't remember. But, anyway, she loves Al, ed hates her. yeah. I never really finished her story.

Dierdre Fockwulf, the Frost Alchemist.
She's from Risenbool and is a friend of a boy down the road named Edwin (My friend's character). Edwin's father, seeing how famous Ed and Al became, made the boy practice and live and breath alchemy. Dierdre liked Edwin and knew that if he went and became a State Alchemist he'd leave her behind, so she started to learn alchemy too. Only one problem. She liked it. A lot. And so she got better than him and ended up teaching him, since to be blunt he's a lazy ass. When he went off to take the test she went too...and ended up a State Alchemist first. Edwin passed the next year. She's easily flustered and bookish.

A soldier from the Briggs foothills in the Ishbalan War. She interacted with Hughes, Roy, and Riza on occasion but never got to know them. Took a bullet and nearly died but was transfered to a lab. Unfortunately. She was turned into a chimera, but was one of the earlier ones since she retains some more animal like features. Mixed with a Eurasian Lynx. She's got pointed and tuffed ears and some strange markings on her skin as evidence of this. When the chimeras escaped, she didn't go with Greed. But she was caught anyways. She was imprisoned until (in our RP) Roy became Fuhrer and got to see what nasty secrets Bradley was keeping in the labs. Seeing a chance for freedom she pledged her life to the government and volunteered to be a spy; her animal "gift" making her more agile and stealthy than normal. She does like to play pranks on the more uptight recruits.
Rebecca Feldshuh
A Jewish seamstress that got caught up in Ed and Al's chaotic life along their landlord in the years before WWII. Her and the landlord are the Earth versions of Dierdre and Edwin. She's rather gentle and remarkably understanding considering the insanity around her. A sort of quietly strong woman instead of the normal punch (or wrench) throwing women from Amestris. They end up running about Europe one step ahead of the Nazis and silliness ensues.
I drew some pics to get a better idea of how they looked. (Rather old and frankly they kind of suck now)

I've made up one or two characters on my own, though they don't relate to the characters from FMA. They just live in Amestris.
1. Blade September. She is female, she just happens to have a strange name. Half ishbalan, but doesn't know Ishbalan culture since she was raised by her amestrian mother's parents. An alchemist, but she can only make wooden cups and bread (out of grass).

Part of me wanted to write a FMA fanfic a while ago, with an alchemist that could create forcefields, but I couldn't quite figure out a chemical make up (perhaps some sort of plasma window type thing?) and I prefer to write original material anyway, so I decided not to. I've always loved the "energy shield" cliche, though, so I like thinking there would be an alchemist who could do that. The military in FMA would certainly love to have their soldiers behind some sort of barrier, so their enemies couldn't even strike back. Then again, that might be too sterile. The homunculi manipulating the military like seeing humans suffer.

-Emily Jones: a girl about the same age as Al, with black hair and brown eyes. Her name is often shortened to Elie. She wants to become an alchemist but isn't very good at it. Her mother is a housewife and her father is an archaeologist. Both are from Amestris. After her father disappeared while attempting to find treasure in the Xerxes ruins, she tries to find him, convinced that he is alive.
-Thomas "Wolfie" McFarlane: a 17 year old boy with black and white hair and grey eyes. He was turned into a Chimera, escaped from a lab and later found by Elie. Now he travels aroun Amestris with Elie so she can find her missing father. He was mixed with a wolf,and it resulted in his two-tone hair colourand his nickname, Wolfie.
