Hehe, since Rolfie and I began to talk about the suikoden game series in the final fantasy thread, might as well make a spin-off ^^


so, any fans of suikoden in this forums other than rolfie and me? I love this game, it's at the top of my list of favorite rpgs and the reason why I bought ps2 (to continue playing the series). Although the story of GS3 and its gameplay are a bit disappointing, nevertheless, the characters are still lovable.

can't wait to play GS4 though... it comes wih voice over, yay! ^^

yes, the character designs of this game are very beautiful i've to admit....

what impressed me the most (in GS1 and GS2)are their sprites. from far away their designs look so simple, but once you get a copy of their character portraits, you'll see just how intricate their designs and costumes are simply awesome! ^^

I got the GS2 108 character designs book. and GS3's character designs are also intricate and well-thought of. But GS4's character designs went back to GS1's designer so there goes the in-depth details in designs and back to simpler ones.

the best villain for me is Luca 'DIE PIG!' Blight. He scared me more than Sephiroth of FF7 did. It took a whole army to defeat him! And that was with the aid of an ambush. Even with high level characters, i still have a hard time dealing with him. Even after playing the game for more than 5x already, he still scares me.

Humphrey of both games... did you get ALL endings, Rolfie?

recently i played both games with the help of a emulator (and a walkthru), so yes finally i got all endings in gs1 and gs2.
so far gs2 really is my most beloved rpg, the grafic is awesome and the chara design really kickz a$$, i think its better than the design of the first Suikoden. too bad that gs4 design will be like the one from gs1, but hey, there are 10 years between the two games, the design might have improved much :>

yeah, the designs have greatly improved... but the 3d characters aren't as... cute as GS3 ^^

did you see the really bad ending where Nanami and Riou end up living in an obscure cabin?

obscure cabin? what? just saw the ending when u choose to run away at tinto (neclord story), the 108 stars ending, the normal ending.

hehehe, yeah that... but you probably chose to stay anyway.

in the last part, while trying to run away from tinto, flik and shu arrive. shu came to a conclusion that you were running away and you had 2 replies... to go anyway with nanami or to go back. if you still choose to leave, they will let you and the game will suddenly end showing a picture of cabin (meaning you really ran away with nanami).

my friend discovered that. i did it only once (about my 5th or 6th time that i played it). after that, i never ran away from tinto again (i like ridley... his son, boris is a drag...)

aaah this u mean. oh yes, saved before that event and chose to run away. yup, this ending sucks ^^ and boris sucks 2 ^^

did you also get tir?

i heard that there was a secret scene if you take viktor and flik or kasumi along when you recruit tir. i haven't seen flik and viktor's yet though, have you?

damn didint knew that XD so no secret scenes here...

yup, and if you bring a returning character with you when recruiting tir, you also get a secret scene... all of them a bit different from the other.

and, if you bring flik along when meeting tengaar and hix, there will also be a scene. btw, have you seen the bathscenes yet? i've pretty much seen them all ^^ so funny!

btw, Rolfie, have you seen annabelle singing with vocals (because she usually sings but no sound is coming out)? so far i've heard her sing 2 out of 5 suikoden vocal songs (orrizonte and due fiumi).

awwwww.... no i havent >_< guess i have to re-play the game once more oO
but only with emulator, since i dont only have the PAL version of suikoden 1 and the NTSC version of suikoden 2, so the save states from s1 cant be used for s2 to get mcdohl... >_<;;
and with an emulator on the PC i can use a ripped save states i downloaded where someone got all 108 stars from s1 NTSC version :>

hmmm... viktor in gs4? i don't think so (but i hope so!) well, he's from north window up in the City state of jowston(GS2) while the settings for gs4 is in the island nations south of toran republic(GS1). but, come to think about it, he did leave north window only to find it in ruins later on because of neclord...

yeah, it IS possible... then maybe flik and odessa... @_@

btw, gs4 release date in japan is sometime this august (aug 17 I think)... oooh, so excited.

XD it could be possible! maybe they come along at north window and pick up viktor for a journey and after he returned from that, he met neclord and gs1 events happened...
well i hope gs4 will have more adorable characters as gs3 and more people from gs1/gs2/gs3, because i think this is a special fan service and everyone will thank konami for putting them in...
and btw., Lilly is my favorite GS3 Chara so far :-)

the interesting thing about GS4 is the new rune, the rune of punishment. it's a very powerful true rune but... after a certain period, the rune will eat/devour its owner and pass on to the next. it's like a parasite... i wonder how the new hero will live through it all.

plus the voice over! yay! ^^

oh, btw, i got a copy of the suikogaiden series... don't worry, you won't miss anything. it's mostly fanservice (bec. of all the pretty pictures ^^). the gameplay is.... nevermind... all you do is read, click, choose your next line, click, and read some more.

=X saw the pictures at suikosource. and its awesome, the artbook is cool XD

i'm looking for the suikogaiden vol.2 artbook... all art from the game are there, even the cells... pencil sketches, painted cells, rendered scenes, character designs... it's hard to find one nowadays (and the money... *sigh*... woe is me)

oh, suikoden 3, tell me if you get nadir and some scripts, the play is funny if you get the right characters...

I also love this series.
Suikoden 3 is what I remember.
I played 1 and 2 long time ago, so I cannot even remember the story line.

when I play suikoden 3, it was goo, but too many characters to play and I only have 3 or 4 choices, so it was hard because I love many characters in the game.

In-case, some of you might not know.
Suikoden is the novel written around Song dynasty.
I also read this novel. This is good story. It is known to be one of the three most famous book in chinese history.
the other one is Romance of Three countries. (actually real name is "story of Three countries")
last one is Suyuki (about name Songoku (from dragon ball) came from here. Toriyama Akira used Suyuki style and suddenly he turns the story around into full time space action manga)

But, Suikoden the game does not follow any of the real story line except taking 108 hero thing.
In China, 108 hero were gathered under the leadership of a man called Song Gang in order to bring peace to China, but at the end, almost all hero died from battle field or get killed by evil high ranking government officers.
Sad story but good story to read.

i've read that at suikosource.com, but didn't know most of them died...

but it's the thought of collecting the 108 characters that kept me coming. at first i was confused by this system... i mean, what's the point... then, at the end of the game (GS1), i finally found out why.

oh, another chinese-novel-based-game that i play is dynasty warriors 4... the hack and slash game with story based on the Romance of the three kingdoms. i like how your actions in the game affect the tide of battle and not just wait for you to trigger an event. my favorite side is Wu... my favorite character is Shang Xiang... why oh why did the developers make lui bei look like an elf?! and to think that he'd be my favorite's husband... T_T

As far as I played, i like Hugo's Chapters best. Geddoe is boring, Chris sucks so far, i hope it gets better =>

she's the only reason i play gs3 over again... and i hate playing gs3, i can't stand the horrible plot of the story not to mention its various inconsistencies.

his story made no sense... come on! complaining about immortality when he's only 30?! yeah, uh-huh, and being 22 (that's me) is already considered old, huh? then it must suck big time to be 40+ (*cough* nash *cough*)

anyway, it's a good thing gs4 is set 15 years before gs1... hehe, 15 years gap is not too bad and returning characters from gs1 are very possible.

Hey I've never played Suikoden beofre, could someone just basicly explain what it is to me, I don't even know if it came out here in the UK O_o.

Has anyone played Romancing Saga or Seiken Denitsu, those games rock .

well, basically, suikoden is an rpg game (like final fantasy).

it has one of the greatest storylines and has the most number of characters sets in one game. it is based on a chinese novel (see post by TrueAlchemist).

So, here's the thing... there is a certain time when the 108 stars of destiny shall meet and gather together to fight against a common foe and it is up to you, the main character, to gather all 108 stars/characters... so it's 107+you. Of course, not all characters are usable, some are for support only. Gathering characters will also build up your castle/hq.

from there it becomes your typical rpg, leveling up, finding items, dungeons, the works. one of the best features of this game is the unite attack. characters your party can execute different unite attacks depending on who the members of you current party are.

there are 3 types of battles: the random party battle (field/dungeon/boss fights); duel (you vs. a character); and strategy.

and there are also extras: bath (secret scenes open when you put the right characters); minigames; etc.

its awesome, try it out.
and viki? is the nash from gs3 the nash from the suikogaiden games?

yup yup ^^

in suikogaiden, his name is Nash Latkje. in gs3, he's nash clovis. accdg. to info, he changed his name to hide his identity but... really now, he could have changed the theme of his outfit.

anyway, nash of suikogaiden was a lot more interesting. he had this weapon called, "grosser flux" (i think)... it's basically a pair of blades. although powerful, they make him turn berserker over time.

he was also associated with the Howling Voice Guild of harmonia (Clive) but had to escape for some reason.

hehe, i also cheated a bit in gs2... i got futch and humphrey even before the fall of city of jowston, hehehehe...

it was difficult, but at least my and my other characters' levels were up to lvl 40+ even before i got the castle, hehehehehehe... but luca blight was still tough to beat even with such a high level. >_<;;
