Summary
After stumbling across a haunted Go board, irresponsible Hikaru Shindo discovers that the spirit of a master player has taken up residence in his consciousness. In his pursuit of the "Divine Move," (Also referred to as "The Hand of God") Fujiwara-no-Sai awakens in Hikaru an untapped interest and genius for the game, and soon the schoolboy is chasing his own dream--defeating the famed Go prodigy Akira Toya!

(From BH007)
Fukiwara Sai is a spirit residing within an old bloodstained Goban until he is awakened by Shindo Hikaru. Fujiwara wants to play Go but has no phyiscal body so he must rely on Shindo to place the pieces for him. People are in shock and awe at Shindo's "skill" and the story is further complicated when Shindo himself becomes interested in Go and palys without Sai's help. A fantastic drama with some truly original ideas and good plot development overall.

I do. It's been a long time since a new volume come out though in my country.
Kasumi
I've watched the anime and read the manga. ^^

The manga ending didn't meet my expectations either, but it wasn't that bad. I, personally, am hoping they'd make a sequel. I want more Waya! laugh.gif tongue.gif

Waya is the best looking guy in the series. tongue.gif (in my opinion, anyway. wink.gif)

The anime ended after tournament to choose the 3 Japan representatives for the Hokuto Cup but before the actual Hokuto Cup arc.

That's not considered a spoiler, right? If it is, tell me, and I'll change it.
xrninja
i've read it! well, i've watched the whole series so i skimmed everything before the hokuto cup (which is at the very end of the manga, and isn't in the anime. the anime mentions it, though). the hokuto cup arc didn't really meet my expectations, mostly because of the ending....

waya is! he's my favorite character in the series biggrin.gif i also think he dresses the best and has cool hair. wink.gif
Fresh_Coffee
The ending was crappy 0_0 I understood it but I didn't find it that great. What was the ending for the anime xrninja ?

Kasumi: Your a Waya fan? So am I that guy is just to funny XD and he has his own twin Le ping.

Someone tell me the anime ending please.

Thanks Kasumi Waya is cool kaga to me is cool too.

Was it explained in the Anime why Sai disappered? I mean I know why he did because he fulfilled his destiny to guide Hikaru but do they go even deeper and explain it more?

Dosen't Waya remind you of Junpei from Ichigo 100 % or is it just me?
Kasumi
@Fresh_Coffee: I haven't read Ichigo 100%, so I can't say. ^^;;

@xrninja: laugh.gif Yeah, I like his hair too. I have a thing for anime characters with spiky/messy hairstyles. tongue.gif

@Fresh_Coffee: Nope, the anime and the manga are exactly the same. wink.gif

Fresh_Coffee
Kasumi : Thanks I was wondering 0_o

Kasumi: For some reason I imagine your cousin saying: O my goodness I'VE BEEN LIED TO!!! LIES, SAI YOUR A GUY? I have no idea why I imagine your cousin saying that XD

Waya rocks! We need more waya fans please XD
Fayt
I also have a question.

I stoped watching Hikaru no go for a while.

You know Kimihoru and akari
what happens after they...... When the time passes. I keep wondering.....

It means Kimihoru the blue hair guy and Akari the one that likes Hikaru.

What happends to both of them after everybody grows up?

I haven't watch a lot of them and for manga I only gotten 3.

AA battery
*hugs the two Waya fan here* I thought Waya was the best looking one (and humourous and cool too X3)

I didn't watch the anime (75 episodes are too much to download with the limited bandwidth I got here =\) but I did read through the whole set in... 1 week... it was pain to my eyes (and my grades)... however, I think the ending is acceptable altho I don't really like it much... (I feel really sad when Sai disappeared... he is my second fav guy after Waya... and yes, I did thought that he was a woman in disguise... cuz of his look... but then his clothing was for men... ^^;; )

Kasumi: Oh, I figured out that Sai was really a guy when I read one of the mangaka's omake XD (she was complaining that some fanmails kept on calling Sai a "she" XD)
hidden_death
i read some of Hikaru No Go and i think its pretty good happy.gif
Kasumi
@armor-alchemist: Another Waya fan! biggrin.gif
laugh.gif You're not the only one. My cousin thought Sai was a female until his friend told him that Sai's a guy. XD

laugh.gif Fresh_Coffee, you crack me up. XD
Yes, we need more Waya fans! Maybe we should start up a Waya fanclub. He needs more love. tongue.gif

@armor-alchemist: I haven't read that omake before. Did the mangaka complain or did Sai complain? I personally think it'd be funnier if it was Sai who was complaining. laugh.gif
If I had started off with the anime instead of the manga, I think I would've thought Sai was a 'she'. I don't know, I think Sai looked more feminine in the anime compared to the manga.

@Fayt: Nothing special happens to them... Not anything that we know of anyway... happy.gif;;

there was a character named kimihoru? huh.gif
Fayt
Kimihoru the blue hair guy with the glasses.

Spelling might be wrong tough.

And also someone at my church says that Kimihoru is killed and Akari rides a train and goes away is that true?? Because the guy at my church said that?

It isn't true right..........................because I almost belive anything people say unless I know that person well enough
xrninja
ohhh, you mean tsutsui, tsutsui kimihiro (finally refreshed my memory after much googling). and no, i don't believe he dies, nor does akari go away. tell that guy he shouldn't lie in church. rolleyes.gif (maybe he was talking about a fanfic he read?)
Fayt
Heh thanks for clearing my mind laugh.gif laugh.gif

But I can't tell him because ph34r.gif ph34r.gif ph34r.gif ph34r.gif he left a month ago dry.gif

I have volume 1, 2, and 3 cool.gif

Lied church laugh.gif people these days now anyone, want to tell me any evidence between AkarixHikaru sorry I'm just a supporter sleep.gif

@Fayt - Well in the manga nothing really happens to Akari she's just happy 0_0.
Kasumi
I would consider all Hikaru and Akari interactions HikaxAkari hints. happy.gif Yup, a HikarixAkari fan here! smile.gif

For the anime, there are 75 episodes.
For the manga, there are 23 volumes.

wink.gif

With the way it ended, anybody think they'll be making a sequel? I know it's unlikely, but it's not impossible, right?

Yes, I'm pretty sure Hikaru No Go has 23 volumes... Exactly how many chapters are in total... I can't remember... Although I do believe it was around 189 chapters.

Was chapter 189 where...
Japan loses to Korea in the Hokuto Cup tournament?
Blackwings
Hikaru no go manga was great! ending wasnt bad i found it very sad though i just bout cryed T_T
Sith lord Revan 64
I read it in shoen jump monthly.I dont realy like it that much...

How long is Hikaru No Go?

Does anyone know if hikaru No GO has good sales for the manga?
Blade Alchemist
I haven't read a whole lot of it but I really like Hikaro No Go.
MasterKris
There are 23 volumes for Hikaru no Go??!! blink.gif
I thought there were only 19... huh.gif
Even though I try to think Sai as a guy, I can't help it to think him as a girl. ph34r.gif
By the way, how many chapters are there to Hikaru no Go manga? Chapters, not volumes. Cause I read up to chapter 189 it doesn't seem to be an ending. Even though there are many people who saids it is the ending...
(every site that has Hikaru no Go has only up to chapter 189)
I LIKE WAYA TOO!!!!!!!!!!! biggrin.gif
He's my fav character!!!!!!!!!!!
Next is Sai!!!!!!!!!!!! tongue.gif

SPOILER:
___________________________________________________

Yes, it is where Japan loses to Korea in the tournament!!!!!!!!!!!
So...it is the ending... sad.gif
The ending sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There are so many things the manga didn't complete, like
1.They NEVER played the Hand of God
2.There wasn't any real finaly game between Touya and Hikaru
3.Hikaru never won against Touya
4.They never cleared the misunderstanding of Hikaru thinking Ko YongHa as a Shuusaku hater
5.Sai never came back!!!!!!!!! unsure.gif sad.gif
6.Ling Ping never met Waya
7.If it is the ending, isn't Hikaru supose to win against YongHa??
WAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ohmy.gif
But I forgive the ending because Korea won!!! laugh.gif
Yep!!! I'm Korean!!!! tongue.gif
Kitoky
I'm collecting the mangas that Shonen Jump are releasing - though it takes a long time for them to get one bloody manga out T.T

*admits she is an Akira/Akari fan*
Kasumi
Best to put those spoilers in spoiler tags, MasterKris. I know you've already labelled it as spoilers, but just in case. wink.gif

Anyway, going back on topic, many people were disappointed in the ending for the same reasons. They decided to cut it off too abruptly. Although, I think a few things (1,2,3,and 5 from your list) are better left undone/not explained/not mentioned.
Fresh_Coffee
I agree number 5 better left undone because..

Sai, completed his mission which was to teach Hikaru. Just becasue it's the ending dosen't mean that Hikaru has to win.
Kasumi
I don't know about that... I went into HnG without any knowledge about Go, yet I still fell in love with the series. smile.gif It was the storyline that got me hooked, not Go. tongue.gif
Fujisyuusuke
I have read Hikaru no Go and ive seen the anime. I think this series is very good
MasterKris
I saw the ending from http://animeart.com/and I found out that the last few minuets of it covers about 5 volumes of HnG...WHAT IS WITH THAT!!!!!!!!

Fujisyuusuke-san, you are so lucky...
I did read the manga, but haven't seen the anime...

Lets see...
the only other option is why HnG is not popular...
CAN'T THINK OF ONE!!!!!!!!!

I know how to play Go because almost every single kid in Korea knows how to play. But kids in korea views Go as a formal type of adult game, where you have to know and play well to be a player.
I have the Go board and I tried to hold the stones the way in HnG.
VERY EASY!!!
Can't think why Hikaru couldn't do a simple thing. (mabye because he wasn't trying)

Just something I posted in the SK forum...
Doesn't anyone think Sai looks just like Hao from Shaman King??
The formal one, the real face of Hao from 1500 years ago.
When I saw Sai for the first time, this is what I thought.

...why won't anyone answer??

.............. sad.gif .....................

edit by xrninja: basically, what kasumi said: don't post more than once in a row. if you're looking for quick answers, go join a chatroom.
Mustang's Apprentice
I've only read a couple of volumes but I've found it very good so far.
MetalEncryptions
I like Hikaru No Go....its good. I only have Vol. 1 though sad.gif
DameGreyWulf
I've read some in Shonen Jump
I love it, despite it being a bit boring XD
Naivete
I thought my friend had gone nuts when she started talking about Go but she made me read it. xP

I didn't really like the ending.. it didn't seem like one =/

Btw, if you read the actual manga, in the last volume Hikaru finally beats Akira!!! (or so my friend says...it's in the extras of the volume)
Funderful
I read a bit in Shonen Jump, But it's so damn boring.
Progresses so slowly. I don't really care for it.

On the other hand, it's by the same artist as Deathnote! Yay!
I do like the art. smile.gif
Hanozo
Ah Hikaru no Go

in my opinion I think they should've have made it longer and also the the charaters should have stayed as kids awhile longer smile.gif

I just noticed that they update the vol to slowly. It takes like 3 months for each vol to come out TT_TT.
1cor1313
I liked it a lot actually. It wasn't really boring since I was paying attention to the character development. It was a letdown in some parts.

All the people kept on foreshadowing that Hikaru was some sort of Go genius even after Sai left but the manga never really quite delivered on that part.
Although the manga seemed more realistic in that sense since no one is all powerful and such but still.
I was hoping for some kind of big finish
ed_drink_your_milk
I'd have to agree with 1cor1313 in that I didn't find it boring, but i'm really mad about how it ended. I think someone just ran out of ideas and went, "To heck with this!", and added the most dissapointing end possible. (IMO) dry.gif
silentsky
YES! Hikaru no go!

It got me into playing go.
I'm 11kyu >_<
Kari_Neko
Hikaru No Go is awesomes! Sai's so funny! Akira is cute ah....I WANNA PLAY GO! Anyways I like it alots!
