Please post the discussions on episode 11: "The Other Brothers Elric, Part 1" here.
I thought the episode started out sort of slow but picked up towards the second half. I also thought the dub was pretty good, I really liked Fletcher's and Russell's voice.
I also really liked the twist that the red stone is making everyone sick. I probably should have caught this earlier with all the towns people coughing and Russell and Fletcher wearing the masks but I didn't get it till Ed fainted.
Though I do wonder why Ed didn't show the towns people his pocket watch to prove who he was, might have saved him some trouble.
Highlights of this episode:
Ed's "Get down on your knees line."
Ed using Al to sooth his cheek

Ah, good episode. Its great re-watching all these episodes again!
I loved Fletcher's and Russel's voices. Was Russel voiced by Eric Vale (Trunks, Yuki from Fruits Basket.. etc) I'm usually pretty good at figuring out the Funi voices, but I couldn't tell for him.
Can't wait for next week's episode!

I wasn't really too fond of anything in this episode, but, then again, I hated it subbed too.
I wasn't really paying attention to it though, and I fell asleep during the Venture Brothers the second time it aired. I'll try to give it another chance on thursday night.

I love how in the Japanese version Ed just points down at the ground and said, "Suwari."
"..."
Pointy pointy pointy, "Don't look down on me!"
It seems funnier when you hear it in that language. XD
Well, for me at least. x3

I think (not 100% sure) that Russel was being voiced by Justin Cook (Yusuke and Hatsuharu's voice)

Yeah those where defanatly the hilights of the show. That get down on your knees line was so funny I think the almost exact wat it went was "Get down on your knees I said get down on the ground".Russel "Why so we can see eye to eye."I got a kick out of that. The reason I knew how it went was I recorded it.

I think the dub was great. But wasn't Fletcher's voice a little dead sounding? It was good, but lacked expression, which annoyed me a little.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. I wonder who voiced him.

I was wondering who voices Al? His voice kinds sounds like a girl.

I heard hes voiced by a child actor, and they might replace him, I think? Ehh off topic, i was hoping some of you knew. But i pretty much loved the episode, and was dissapointed about the ending. I was hoping to see more. xDD I was like aww man thats it?

Al is voiced by Aaron Dismuke, he is a 12-yr old kid and also did the voice of young Akito in Fruits Basket. I don't think there are any plans to replace him. Personally I think he is doing a good job.

I liked this episode, the parallels between the fake Elerics and real ones was kinda interesting.

I like Russell's voice. Not the acting, particularly, but the voice.

Russell's voice was great! I'm a fan of Justin Cook since he did such a good job as Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho. Fletcher's voice... ehh... I didn't like it one bit. It was pretty bad. It had a total lack of emotion and feeling.

I must say I've really enjoyed all the dubbed episodes so far and this one is one of my favourite. I really like how the little brothers kind of team up because the older brothers are such hot heads.

I'm not much of a fan of Aaran Dismuke - his voice is alright for Al but I think he could do a better job in the timing and such. =/

His timing leaves a bit to be desired, especially since he doesn't even have to match the movement of his characters lips

. His lines could use a bit of work as well methinks.
Does anyone else shiver every time he says "Brother" instead of "Ed" or "nii-san"?
Yeah I think "Sit......... Don't look down on me!" is a bit more hilarious than "On your knees!". I didn't really like this episode subbed either... it seems... blah.. and slow... maybe it's just cuz things haven't quite picked up yet in the series tho.
Side Note: I miss the original 1st season opening song

1) I think that Arron Dismuke is doing a great job as the voice of Al, but I dont really like how he calls Ed brother almost every time he is addressing him. I dont think or want him to be replaced as the voice of Al. Hopefully FUNI has already completed the dubbing for all of the episodes.
2) I am starting to get annoyed about how the same background music is used for all the episodes. I am talking about the music played during the episodes to get emotions from the viewers like when Shou Tucker had transmuted Alexander and Nina. That same music was used in episode 11 when Al and Fletcher were talking and in at least one other episode before that. It is great music, it just starts to lose its effect when it is used repeatedly. Does anyone know if it is like that in the Japanese version or is this an American mistake.
Ailuro
Jan 26 2005, 04:59 PM
He doesn't always say "brother". He's said "edward", "ed", and other things many more times.
The music is the exact same as the Japanese. But don't worry, the music starts to differ as the series progresses.

The music makes me happy. It feeds the adiction.

Once you watch about 20-30 of 'em you'll like the music more too.

Yes. It was Justin Cook who voiced Russell Tringham.

Did they really change Tringham to Tlingham? It would be difficult to pronounce.
*sigh* I suppose we'll have to wait for episode 12 to see.

'Tlingham' is the official spelling as stated by Sony, the original producers of the FMA anime, long ago.

Jan 29 2005, 06:16 PM
Well since the Japanese pronunciation of "Tringham" is "Tlingham" making the R sound more like an L, I'm not sure.

how is a Tr sound hard to produce, just how would one make a Tl sound good, it might be more accurate but it wouldn't sound good.

You mean like he tried to convince the detective in episode 10? And we all know the poor citizens of that town (they were poor after the loss of the mine) would call long distance to find out the descriptions of the real Elric brothers after they "knew" Ed was lying. If you were so certain someone was lying, would you accept their defense?
Btw, I was laughing my ass off at the elder (fake) brother's voice, I liked it, but I never expected the VA for Yuusuke to do his voice, that was just plain awesome lol.
