I managed to finish all the books I posted in my last post in this thread, and it hasn't been a full month. I'm proud of myself. tongue.gif

I will be starting LaHaye & Jenkins' Left Behind as soon as time permits, and maybe start and finish Plato's Symposium. There is also Martin Cohen's 101 Ethical Dilemmas that I started last year but haven't touched since.

The Republican War on Science by Christopher Mooney

It's sickening, really. One party bears responsibility for literally mortgaging the planet's future and forever ruining America's fundamental trust in the advancement of science in the name of padding the wallets of the already super-rich. I feel like killing someone after reading some of this shit. mad.gif
Chopper Enthusiast
I just finished James Clavell's "Shogun".
And moving on to "Gai-Jin".

On Tangerine: Oooh, I remember that one. I liked it a lot, despite the fact that I wasn't really into angsty stuff at the time that I read it.

On Shadow of the Giant: It's supposed to be the last one, I think...or at least it felt like it. You'll know what I mean when you finish it. smile.gif

Just finished Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-five and Voltaire's Candide. What a trip.

Uh... you mean Lexus and the Olive Tree...

I never finished that one. I got the gist of it about midway through, and never bothered to read the rest.

Have fun, Thieves. Excellent story, that.

Ah His Dark Materials were a fantastic set of books and really quite deep for most children to completely grasp. I know I'd have to read them again to even half understand what he his tackling. Still I know it has upset Christians so it'll be a hard film to make. It has to appeal to children but at the same time kep all the important themes covered.

Anyhow I'm reading 'The Mermaid and the Drunks', least I will be doing so soon, lots of work at the moment.

Currently reading Philosophical Analysis in the Twentieth Century: Volume 1. It's a bit slow going because I'm not very familiar with G.E. Moore. Once I get into Russel, it will speed up, but I think I'll have to slow down again when I get to Witgenstein as I'm also not as knowledgeable with him.
phoenix dying
I finished Angels and Demons
mei_tenshi
I'm in the middle of Siege of Darkness, a Drizzt Do'Urden book by R.A. Salvatore. I started Octavia E. Butler's Parable of the Talents when my brother came home from his China trip two days ago, and read some more on the flight back to school, but I feel that I should read the first book, Parable of the Sower, first. *excuse for a trip to the library*
Fayth Prophecy
Currently I'm reading Drawing of the Three by Stephen King

I know this only applies to me and the other handful of star wars fans in the world: The New Jedi Order series was very compeling and I enjoyed every one of them. Expecially Traitor .

Well I'm slowly but surely getting through my 'top 100' books list. Its a good list, but I know there will be a few books that aren't popular in America, if they are even sold. The was a British vote, and done on the BBC so none of those God awful 'Top 100's' that are so prominant now.

Anyhow completed 'The Alchemist' and 'Treasure Island' in the last few weeks, not sure which to read next so it'll probably be Memoirs again.

Oh and Phoenix, I went through a Star Wars book stage, read about 10 of them but it was a while ago. I should really pick a new one up.

Did you read the new ones? And do you really think its stage?

Well, I'm currently re-reading Memoirs of a Geisha...but all in all, I love reading regular books. I get to imagine the scenes and such on my own. Even those that are based on, or used to make, movies. Becasue then I can compare the book to the movie.
Thievesvinegar
eyesight? Mm, just don't strain yourself.

Currently reading Clockwork Orange and Waiting for Godot. Don't understand the second one yet.
Blade Alchemist
I'm currently reading Memeoirs of a Geisha
edsgirl
I'm currently reading Beasts Of No Nation, by Uzodinma Iweala. It's about an African child soldier, and his life as a soldier. What really grabbed my attention was the way it was narrorated. From the main characters POV. So far it's been really good.
Carnal Malefactor
I really wanna get John Hodgman's 'The Areas of My Expertise." That guy is a riot.
Celestial Shadow
I've just recently finished The Joy Luck Club, which was actually pretty touching. My Physics teacher suggested that I should read a book of her's (seriously, do all Asian women read Amy Tan?) The Bonesetter's Daughter and while it looks terribly boring by the cover and title, it doesn't seem to be.

I asked a hot guy I know who reads fantasy novels if he knew of any good ones, and he told me Eragon was one of the best he's ever read. That's what an friend online said to me before, but I don't understand how a book by a 15 year old could've been so good blink.gif I'm going to have to study it, and see what's so good about it so that I maybe have some chance of getting a book published one day.
mei_tenshi
Er...I haven't read Amy Tan. Except for some of her short stuff, which were assigned...

Eragon's good. Go for it. A hot guy who reads fantasy? Where?!

Currently reading Alexander Pope's works for English. Moving on to the Environmental Sciences textbook soon.

I'm under the impression that many Asian women do read Amy Tan. I've read The Joy Luck Club for a book report back in Grade 11 (best-looking book on the whole list they gave us). I also enjoyed it thoroughly. I own The Bonesetter's Daughter, too, since it was donated to me, but I haven't gotten around to it. It did seem boring at first glance.

I'd like to read The Joy Luck Club. I really enjoyed the movie. I figure if the movie is good than the book is really good. laugh.gif

Currently I'm reading:
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S Thompson. It's been on my read list for a while.
Thievesvinegar
I'm asian and I've never read the Joy Luck Club. Asian-American literature has never impressed me.

Finished Fight Club. Sad, expected more out of it.
