They later said what is plainly obvious: It was a joke.
I really can't believe people thought that was in any way serious.

Oh yeah you're right, my mistake, I read the second part of the article. I guess I just rushed to conclusions like I always do^^;

I heard a Cowboy Bebop movie is in the works.
Article:
http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/07/22/fox...n-feature-film/And of course M. Night Shamalan's doing an Avatar the last airbender movie too. (Not really an anime though.)
http://www.lastairbenderfans.com/It's weird to see this sudden trend of live action anime adaptions, I've never seen Fruit Basket, but I've heard it's very similar to Ouran High School, which doesn't really sound like it translates into a movie well.

well i saw the trailer for dbe yesterday (yes its called dragon ball evolution) i don't know what all the comotion is about. i onl;y hope they don't mess up the gits film and the furuba film i say dhould never exist. not to mention the fact that if anime is made into live action then it will most likely be in the cinema for about a week. hopefully if furuba was released then maybe the genre might apeal but the idea of the fact it was addapted wont. especially where i live. plus orlando bloom in a furuba film wtf

i mean seriously theres even an evangelion film. gits is most likely to get lost in an empty sea of box office money. i bet i'll be the only person in this city to actually give a ....

Just so you guys know, the Fruits Basket film: not happening. Never even planned. Just internet rubbish like G.W Bush making anime illegal. There is a planned stage version though in Japan.
Real projects:
Released: Dragon Ball Evolution (terrible film)
Filming/In some stage of production: Akira starring Leonardo DeCaprio, Ghost in the Shell produced and possibly directed by Steven Spielberg, Cowboy Bebop starring Keanu Reeves.
Planned: Dragon Ball 2 (pretty much a lock), Monster (in dev hell, probably never going to happen), Eva (never ever going beyond a vague idea sadly.)
There's probably a few more but I can't remember then right now.

I saw my first ever preview for the Dragon Ball Evolution film. And that preview made me cringe. I don't know who would want to pay money, or download that movie for that matter.
Are there any live action anime based movies that are actually good?

Dammit, of course they totally Americanize them... I'd be fine if they like, kept all the original Japanese names. As for FMP, that one is definitely gonna get killed, because of a lot of the culture references...

Geh. And Zac Effron might be in it? I don't really see him portraying Sousuke since he's done rather upbeat roles and Sousuke's a rather stoic character.

Zac Efron seems to always be the rumor that he'll be in American Live Actions! It was the same for the American Death Note Live Action. they are making it. i think it'll suck! the Japanese Live Actions for Death Note were great, why do they need to make an American version. And just to scare the lil kids, I'm gonna cosplay wen i go see it XD no one said i couldnt XD

I really had hoped that the trainwreck of a movie that was Dragonball Evoluton would kill this whole 'let's remake anime into live action' idea but no it seems that nothing can stop this train of inevitable terribleness from pulling into the station.
Terrible metaphor, I'll move on.
Anyway, I say if they're gonna remake anime into live action, I wanna see Pokemon: The Live Action movie. Go the whole hog. They can't ruin the series' plot or characters anyway, and it would be both hilarious and awesome to see them try and do it.
Being more serious, I can't say I'm actually at all surprised Hollywood is doing this. They have a terrible habit of just going 'oh this already successful and has a fanbase? we'll remake it then, we'll definately make money off it' rather than actually taking risks with brand new ideas. It's sad really.

~ Cowboy Bebop Live Action Movie: some thoughts ~I just found out who is being cast as Spike, and who is behind the movie.
http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/07/22/fox...n-feature-film/http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/12/17/kea...op-involvement/I do not know if there is a topic for this yet, but I had no idea Keanu Reeves was playing spike. I just want to her everyone's thoughts about this idea.
Here is a funny pic, I think everyone can appreciate, ha ha

Doesn't anyone have anything to say about this? I guess not. I was just wandering what people thought of this idea, that's all.

More old news: Akira project fell through. No Neo-Manhattan for us.
There are other ideas flying around though but none have been picked up. The notable ones being Berserk, Baki the Grappler and Barefoot Gen.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-...ed-to-hollywoodOdds are nothing will come of these.

Yeah, I'd been holding off merging this one to that thread to see if anyone has some interesting/fresh opinions to add. But, it doesn't seem that way. So... I'll be adding this one to
Hollywood going anime (anime that are becoming live-action movies) thread shortly.
ETA: Thread merged.

omg they are bound for failure, live people just simply can't get the likeness of most anime characters, well it could be made well potentially, but so can dubs XD at the end of the day they arn't and considering neally all anime is based in japan the actors probably wont even be of the right nationality, anime should remain as anime in my opinion, life action is an insult to it XD lets pray fma never gets corrupted XD

kinda nice to hear ...
but I much like to see Anime in Japanese-Hollywood-style ..
the characters of anime resembles a lot with Japanese than Americans ...
it would be nice if Japanese actors can speak straight english ... 'cause some can't :I
