ooh yes. as far as female jpop singers go, i definitely like utada hikaru the best, more than BoA and a lot more than ayumi. plus her english is perfect, seeing as she grew up here tongue.gif "first love" and it's instrumental version are both awesome.
edsgirl
the only jpop I can even get into is Utada Hikaru and BOA, pretty good stuff. Is there a video for simple and clean? I haven't seen it in America if their is one.
Quistis88
There is a PV for Utada Hikaru's "Hikari" (Japanese original of "Simple and Clean" for those of you who don't know) and it's just Hikki doing the dishes. There's actually a routine, and I was a little amused when I spotted it. biggrin.gif
Kitoky
I love J-pop! J-rock! J-Techno! All!
My Mp3 List

I inserted a link to a list of all my mp3, J-pop songs. Though I haven't updated in a while. It's sorted by anime though some songs aren't listed right I guess, but it was how I downloaded them so.

If there were any J-pop sold around my area then I would buy them, otherwise, I can't.

J-Pop is invading America! I'm already into The Pillows and Puffy AmiYumi. Anyone else here an addict? cool.gif
xrninja
i only have about 8 songs on my playlist in english, and the rest are all japanese/korean/ff music. which i don't really mind because i like jpop more than american music i hear on the radio tongue.gif

anyway, here's the old jpop thread. maybe continue this one instead: jpop
Roy's Fire
My feelings exactly. American music is lacking the variety that this new type of music is offering. I can listen to Advice by The Pillows (Who else is so good?) all day but I can't listen to MTV for more than 10 mins. Eh... Yoko Kanno is the best AG Z! I love Stray and almost all the best songs are composed by him! I mean Tank, Stray, Infinite Universe... He just rocks!
anime_manga_fan
I LOVE Mini Moni. and Morning Musume. Even though its ment for 8 year olds (One of the songs is from the Hamtaro movie on there first album), I ADORE it! My favourite song from Moni Moni. is 'Minihamuzu no Ai Uta', and my favourite one from Morning Musume is 'The Peace'! MINI MONI. 4 EVER! Mika come back *cries* sad.gif
Sana
My favorite is Utada Hikaru. And Ayumi Hamasaki, and Onitsuka Chihiro, and BoA, and umm lemme see whaat else, oh and Do as Infinity, Every little thing, and I kinda like Morning Musume. And im 12.... but I still like it. Hikaru Utada is one of my fav singer1 laugh.gif

Le Monkey
i like j/pop rather than american music, altho i am a bit anti-american anyway.

No offence is ment to any ammericans out there!
K?
Dark Alchemist1
i'm not the one for jpop and rock but my friend EDWARD1 is.
Kawaii_Demon
Hm I like a couple songs from a jrock/jpop artist called Gackt and I heard some of Utada Hikaru's songs..
BluesDriveMonster
The Pillows are the best. I also like Puffy Ami Yumi and Try Force.
Roy's Fire
QUOTE(BluesDriveMonster @ Jan 16 2005, 07:06 PM)
The Pillows are the best.

Amen. Blues Drive Monster is awsome, but my favorites are: Advice, Back Seat Dog, Carnival, Fool on The Planet, Sleepy Head, Sad Sad Kittie, White Ash, Winning Come Back and Wake up Frenzy!
alchemistgirl zero
I love the pillows, but their lyrics are a little weird to translate into english. Listen to this:

my twin who looks like me
but not that much
What's the matter?
Even your shoelaces
are just left untied
you're spacing out

the kiss of the hyena
that's lying in wait for us
a narrow escape
a bet that's almost impossible
by anybody's bet
I want to enjoy it

I think I can
I think I can
I think I can

Judging from the various songs I've heard from Puffy Amiyumi - they're not that good.

The Pillows however have catchy songs. As does:
Asian Kung-Fu Generation

Yoko Kanno indeed is a good composer! She's an awesome composer! I think Inner Universe (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) is her best piece, I've heard so far with Kiseki no Umi (Record of Lodoss War), in second place! Though Yuki Kajiura is also very good, with her compositions for .hack, Noir, and Madlax.

L'Arc~en~Ciel is good as well. I just have alot of songs I love...>.>
alchemistgirl zero
Puffy AmiYumi is more a cutesy J-Pop kinda thing. The Pillows is kinda a semi-J-Rock thing, Yoko Kanno is good for like karaoke (even though I once hurt my voice trying to get some of those notes), and L'Arc~en~Ciel is cool! happy.gif I love "Ready Steady Go"
xrninja
does anyone know where i can dL songs by the pillows? i want to hear some songs of theirs, since you guys seem to like them so much biggrin.gif
Kitoky
You know the ending song to FLCL? "Ride on a Shooting Star" That's by The Pillows and if you want I can send you that song.
alchemistgirl zero
I've got "ride on shooting star" on my CD. It's a good karaoke song. smile.gif
blueices
Have just finished finding everything L'arc~en~ciel and Hyde ever did (its a lot) about 2.5 gigs...I'll be having a lot of fun this weekend wink.gif

Oh but how can you pick just one?! You should get Back Seat Dog and Advice for starters! They rock! Hmm maybe I'm being biased since those are my favorite songs... Never mind. All songs by The Pillows are good. Some better than others, but still good.
Kitoky
I didn't pick just one, Roy's Fire, I just set an example of a song by the Pillows that he might know.
Guest_metalflamealchemist_*
personly my fav is ride on shooting star. its just awesome but translating them they make no sense.
love_me_destroyer
It turns out Love Me Destroyer is Japanese blink.gif (never would have guessed...) So I guess I'm an addict.
alchemistgirl zero
What I'd really like to get is "Little Busters" by The Pillows. happy.gif
Kaji_Renkinjutsu
For some strange reason, I really like it. It's fun to sing to, and most of them have a nice beat to it. I dont really mind that I don't know what they're saying..cause I don't really care! happy.gif

We think that you should use the Search Button. There's not even that many pages in this section to go through.
hidden_death

Kaji_Renkinjutsu
@Guest: Ohh....Woops. Now I feel stupid. T.T

Listening to jpop is fun!

And again.
Champloo
You should all get: Yami ni Chiru Sakura- Alice nine. It's on the hardrock side of j-rock. It's good stuff
BakaOnna
i don't like j-pop that much... not as much as before. the only group/artist i like is T.M.Revolution.

but j-rock, that's a whole different story. i'm becoming obsessed. groups i listen to:
Asian Kung-fu Generation
Dir en Grey
L'Arc~en~Ciel
Lareine
Malice Mizer
Moi Dix Mois
Pyscho le Cemu
X Japan

i listen to others but i don't have that many songs by them so i don't have an opinion on them yet.
xiaku
I love both JPOP and JROCK. I was introduced to JROCK a couple months ago, with X Japan becoming my first ever JROCK band I listened to. But yes, I'm definitely hooked now. L'Arc~en~Ciel is my definite favorite JROCK group. No doubt about that. :]
LordGohan
anyone have any j-rock of j-pop recommendations on some songs or artists or bands for an American guy like me who likes stuff like:
I am(inuyasha)
peak of hope(spiral opening theme)
most of the bleach music
ride on shooting star(if you don't know...)
the opening theme for AIR
and actually all inuyasha music.

so any recommendations?
xiaku
Music from The Pillows? They sang "Ride on Shooting Star". I'm pretty sure you'll be fond of their music. :]
kokoro_shadow_angel
does ANYBODY AT ALL here listen to Jpop/Jrock artists that DON'T sing for animes?

there are tons of good jpop/jrock bands out there that don't do animes...has anyone here ever heard of:
~ NEWS (dang they're hot wub.gif...especially koyama and shigeaki)
~ KAT-TUN
~ Kanjani8
~ Tackey and Tsubasa (okay, they do animes, but rarely)
~ Orange Range
~ M-flo
~ Soul'd Out

then there's the ones that do sing for animes like
~ BoA (anyone like her new song "Dakishimeru"?)
~ Gackt (Love his new song "Todokanai Ai to Shitteita no ni Osae Kirezu ni Aishitsuzuketa"...long title though tongue.gif)
~ Ayumi Hamasaki (Love her new songs "Heaven" and "Will")

then there's
~ Morning Musume

but personally i think all those girls are sluts...and have reallie crappy music

Blitz
I believe Soul'd Out did an ending for Yakitate!! Japan.
Ladymercury
SOUL'D Out? Anime theme song? Even though they suck, I can't imagine their music anime quality.

Opps, got them confused with some SMEntertainment band tongue.gif Thx for correcting me (I don't listen to them anyway, nor do I like Johnny's besides SMAP and TOKIO XD)

PS: Edward's girl, I think you should take down those links considering FUNimation got the rights to the OSTs and released them over on the state side (not to mention TOFU Records has the rights to those songs as well as they're an record company under Sony).

I hate people who complain about Laruku after Real... Just because they sound less poppy and more rock and that Hyde's voice has changed. Oh, how I love the song Bravery.
