The only one that I've found without a level of cheesyness or just has decent music is Calmando Qual. Even if their name makes no sense and they're butt-ugly.

L'Arc~en~Ciel (may I emphasize PRE-SMILE, augh that crap after REAL is just... disgusting).

I hate people who complain about Laruku after Real... Just because they sound less poppy and more rock and that Hyde's voice has changed. Oh, how I love the song Bravery.

Uh, that's not it. The music is complete crap. Laruku, IMO, sounds more pop than rock. Compare SMILE to Ark/Ray and you'd see that SMILE is complete cheese. Hyde's voice sounds hoarse and there's nothing applied to it at all. No effort whatsoever (he's also a hypocrit but I won't get into that).

I'm sorry, I've been a Laruku fan since 2000 and I am so just sick and tired of their new stuff. the new fans after the otakon concert nearly drove me up a wall

They were forced together to produce half assed music. They should just disband, save us the pain, and go ahead with their solo careers.
Slashrose1010
Yeah, that is what I said... Their old sound was more pop and less rock, but their rock stuff isn't bad. It is just a different style. I don't think their new stuff sounds half-assed at all. They are still making good songs like Jojoushi and Ophelia, upon others. I have to admit that his voice has changed, but necessarilly in a bad way. Rock rquires a gruffer voice. I haven't heard him live before SMILE, but yeah, his live stuff isn't especially great...

Mmm...I'm pretty into J-POP more than anything else...(Because I haven't exactly listened to anything else...XD)

Ayumi Hamasaki
BoA
Utada Hikaru
Koda Kumi
Miliyah Katou

And L'Arc~En~Ciel is pretty okay...

BoA's Korean so I'm not sure if that would really count, would it? Or maybe she's both K-Pop and J-Pop?

Yes, BoA is Korean but Avex and SMEntertainment trade off. So whatever she releases in Korea will be released in Japan in Japanese.

Here is some... err, rather heavy stuff with mellow pieces mixed in. They're not exactly my cup of tea, but I like them. I just wish there wasn't so much distortion and bass.

Throb of Offal - Moss Funeral

Here is some music for you who like softer music. You better have a good attention span for this one, though.

Ain Soph - Variations On A Theme By Brian Smith

I am currently obsessed with this Jrock group called The Baby's. It's the second disc on the Paradise Kiss OST, but it's some damn good spazz out music. They have a really cool energetic punk like sound. You all should definitely check em out. On the links below, just go to where it says play or download at the bottom of the page.
The Baby's Fumenshou no Debu
Shounen Knife
Kikoenai Uta

Slashrose1010
I like the instruments of this band, but the vocals aren't anything special and sound alil on the annoying side sometimes. But they are good otherwise.

Here is some great Japanese power metal with some neo-classical touches.
Volcano - Devil May Care Boy
