Before I watch a certain episode,I thought Ed was 16 years old.But I soon found out that he is actually 12 years old. He is just the right size for a tweleve year old so why do people call him short all the time?? Ed is my age he is so confident(what an inspiation! )

Umm, the first two eps, he's 15, then there's a flashback to when he was 11/12 - he's twelve when he becomes a State Alchemist. After a while, you go back to the present where Ed is 15. Flashbacks occur more than once in FMA.

It's as DarkWater says - but he turns 16 somewhere too. Let's see, there's those first two episodes where he's 15, then there's flashbacks from 3 till 9, where he's MOSTLY 12, but the ages are displayed anyway. Then they go back to three years later where he's 15 and Al is 14...
And somewhere around episode 23 or 24 or something he turns 16. His birthday is in winter and is the same as Hughes's daughter's birthday.

he turns 16 on ep. 23... you ask me why? cuz i just watched that ep. again. and he's 5'2"... that's about the same height as me.T_T i'm so short... but i'm 14, not 16 like Ed is.

Exactly! 5'2"! I use the metric system and I read a bit of the translated manga, and there was this tiny omake there, and they said he was 1.65 with antenna and shoe soles. That's about 1.55 without those, seeing the whole proportional thing.

Yep. I figured it out, and it was 5'2" and there was some discussion about it all and now everyone else is saying the same too. Yep. Great.

But anyway, it strikes me how the people near Ed's height are like "He's not that small at all!" while the taller people are all like "He IS small!" XD How fun.

What is difficult about it? The only time his age 'jumps suddenly' is in episode 3.

At the start episodes 1 & 2, he's 15. Then eps 3-9 cover him from 10-12 yrs old. We then go back to him being 15 (continuing from ep 2), then we just go on with the time then.

edit: done : 5.5938 exacty... that would make 5.6 feet. I'm a girl and I won't grow anymore. My sister is going to taller than me though and she's 8 years younger.

I have 2 younger sisters. One 2 years and the other 4 years younger than me. One is a foot taller than me and the other is getting there. They're starting to call me "chibi-san," like how Envy calls Ed. But then again, I'm a girl and I'm Asian.

About the club, so Tokage's the VP, Ed's the Prez, I guess I'm the treasurer then (MONEY!!!). And all you other people can be in it too. It will be funny if we have this special badge like the grammer police.

I know I'M not in it. being 6'1" and all... but Ed is 5'4". I could've swore it. I did the conversion from the manga info. And Ed is short, for a guy. No offense to you girls and guys but...do you all live on the west coast? Most guys at my school are 5'6"-6"3'. The freshman don't count. Since they just came from eigth grade.

hm...for club admittance, i like telepika's suggestion, absolutely no more than 5'8" (about 173cm) for guys and 5'4" (about 162.5cm) for girls to qualify. those are what i would consider about normal average heights for a normal average (young)adult human being, gender respectively...so if you are shorter than that (and older than 14 or so), i say you can consider yourself vertically challenged to some degree (antennae and boots don't count!).

@Kasumi: In the manga, it said that Ed is 5'6''? including his antennae and his shoes. So without his antennae and shoes, he's 5'2''.
