hey you people shouldn't lie about your age
Kyros
Who's lying? Why would it matter, and most of the people on here aren't even past high school yet...me, I'm going to be 19 by the end of this month...
mei_tenshi
There's a difference between what age you act, and what age you actually are. The former's more important, I think.

Oh, um...first year in college.

Just for all of your benefit, i think someone asked what college was like.

Since most of you are in middle school, you really don't know, do you?

I graduated a two-year school and don't see myself going to another one anytime soon, so I feel as if I am done with my formal education.

i'd say that college is great, if you take advantage of it. Personally, I enjoy learning new things, especially if I am training in a specific field.

Some advice I'd give is don't go to a two-year school. I should know. Although I did gain some valuable experience in my three years there (I graduated in two and stayed a third for "internship," yep I'm a glutton for punishment), I wish I had gone to a place where I would have earned a real degree, a Bachlors or even a Masters, not simply an Associates.

But other than that I'd say stay in school, and study dammit! Most of the people I graduate high school with only got by because of the mercy of the teachers--and it was public school. Put effort into your future, find what you love to do. I love art, literature, and music, so i should have gone either to an art school, majored in english and literature in a four-year college, or possibly enrolled in a good music school.

But that's all I have to say.

So you plan to stop liking cartoons when you reach a certain age?

I think I might just hold you to that. rolleyes.gif

@adamclark - Well said. *thumbs up*

I'm in 16th grade! ...actually, senior in college. Everyone I know likes college a whole hell of a lot better than middle or high school, so all you young'uns that are hating school right now should keep in mind that you have something to look forward to if you try hard enough. smile.gif

@Bob - Aren't you a little old to have such awful grammar? I hate to be a grammar nazi, but you're killing me here.

Are you sure you're 16? Please ask your parents to clarify, because your spelling and grammar suggest otherwise.

Most of us who are old enough to be in post-secondary (and/or beyond) actually have more of a life than some people here. Not trying to imply anyone in particular, because I'm not, but you know what I'm saying.

Yes, those European countries sure have well educated students.

I'm taking a guess here, but is Secondary 2 Exprees Stream like highschool by any chance or like one?

Ehh... it's not a European country, in fact it is a multiracial country with 4 official languages.
The student life is about the same.

However, it's education system is very different from high school, even when compared to our ancestral countries > China, India, Indonesia.
You don't have to read the confusing part below. And I might be wrong at some parts.

In secondary school, the lower secondary have to learn 9 subjects and above(You dont want me to list those). Then at the end of the lower course, which is year2 (my year), there is a streaming examination to stream you accordingly to your best suited element or subjects. There is some rankings for some of the subjects. For science there is pure sciences, which are more in-depth and you have to take at least two of three sciences> bio,phy and chem, and combined science (combination of two science into one), a more shallow study of science. Elementary maths is considered as science too, and Additional Maths is also more in-depth.
Then there is the Arts section, you study Humanities there, which consists of History, elementary History, Geography, elementary Geography, Literature (Chinese/ English), Social Studies and Visual Arts. Elementry studies are less in-depth.
Everybody in secondary have to major in at least two science including maths, 3 humanities, the International Language and their Mother Tongue (Chinese, Malay, Tamil, or foreign languages). Before starting secondary education, students have to be streamed at the end of the primary education(grade3-8, i suppose). Depending on the score, you are judged whether you go to Secondary Normal (techical or acacedamy) which is 5yrs of studies, or Express stream- 4 years of studies for the top 30% of the scholars of the same grade in the nation, and Special Stream for top 10% of the scholars of the same grade in the nation. Why are they called special? Cau's they are excellent in academic and they can take their thrid language ( Malay, Japanese, French, German, Russian). Another exceptionall school is the sports school, they train students more talented in physical activities than in brainwork. One more extra thing about secondary education is after school activites, also known as CCA, is compusory and is included in your final year grades.

Yesh, its very confusing, don't bother reading it.

All in all, I guess student life is about the same, but no breaks between the 6 hrs of lessons except for recess. And most schools dont have free lockers, have to pay(service charge), so we got to carry every single book to school. No homerooms except for higher chinese, the classrooms are fixed. And... we have to wear crappy uniforms to school everyday, and maybe ties or badges for formal occasions. I think those are the only difference.

Ahehe... actually, for every school in my country, we have to reach school by the lastest 7.20am and attend flag ceremony also known as assembly at 7.30am everyday. I went for a exchange students trip to China and studied there for 2 weeks, they also have flag ceremony at 7.30 am everyday too. The weirder part is that all tv station have to playing the anthem before starting the morning programmes at about 7am too. It is a very strict city but it is fine(no pun intended).

Yay, you study in asia like me! Anyway, I guess you are refering to the Middle High School huh or Secondary Education. Everybody starts Secondary Education at 13 in Asia. And Junior High is not equal to Middle High/Secondary School, so cant exactly refer Middle High/Secondary School to Junior High... Which asian country are you from anyway?

No kidding. Come to think of it, I may have heard that the flag ceremony there is daily. How long is it? What exactly do you guys do? Do they also put you in a separate row to humiliate you if you happen to forget a cap or a tie? Is it legal to fake a fatigue to get out of it? Write your answer in a 250-word essay. tongue.gif

Uhhh...
Flag ceremony is like about 5 minutes, then followed by daily announcements, a 10 min talk by a student or teacher and finally students are dimissed from the parade to the classroom. What you do during the ceremony depends on which school you are in. Some have talks, some have a short skit performed by fellow schoolmates. No humiliation for forgeting a tie or badge if your school has one, but 2 hrs detention for some school if you do it more than twice a month. But in my school, improper uniform and unauthorised modification of the uniform results in humiliation. Hmmm... the flag ceremony is soo short that nobody thinks of faking a fatigue.
Hey! I just wrecked my brains out on finishing my exams this week, another 250word essay is gonna kill me. A few more papers to go!

Standard school hours is from 7.15am til 12.30am or 2.00pm. On days that you have extra activities, which is a must, school ends at 6.30pm or 7.30 pm. Remidial classes usually end at 3.00pm or 3.30 pm. Lunch break from 1 til 2pm. Celebrations like school's aniversary can last til 10pm...haha. Confusing eh? My friends and I actually spend more time awake in school than at home. I can't even arrange my time schedule, what the heck, I don't even write and follow them anymore. I follow my friends reminders to keep track of when's what and what's when.
