Yes, those European countries sure have well educated students.
I'm taking a guess here, but is Secondary 2 Exprees Stream like highschool by any chance or like one?
Ehh... it's not a European country, in fact it is a multiracial country with 4 official languages.
The student life is about the same.
However, it's education system is very different from high school, even when compared to our ancestral countries > China, India, Indonesia.
You don't have to read the confusing part below. And I might be wrong at some parts.
In secondary school, the lower secondary have to learn 9 subjects and above(You dont want me to list those). Then at the end of the lower course, which is year2 (my year), there is a streaming examination to stream you accordingly to your best suited element or subjects. There is some rankings for some of the subjects. For science there is pure sciences, which are more in-depth and you have to take at least two of three sciences> bio,phy and chem, and combined science (combination of two science into one), a more shallow study of science. Elementary maths is considered as science too, and Additional Maths is also more in-depth.
Then there is the Arts section, you study Humanities there, which consists of History, elementary History, Geography, elementary Geography, Literature (Chinese/ English), Social Studies and Visual Arts. Elementry studies are less in-depth.
Everybody in secondary have to major in at least two science including maths, 3 humanities, the International Language and their Mother Tongue (Chinese, Malay, Tamil, or foreign languages). Before starting secondary education, students have to be streamed at the end of the primary education(grade3-8, i suppose). Depending on the score, you are judged whether you go to Secondary Normal (techical or acacedamy) which is 5yrs of studies, or Express stream- 4 years of studies for the top 30% of the scholars of the same grade in the nation, and Special Stream for top 10% of the scholars of the same grade in the nation. Why are they called special? Cau's they are excellent in academic and they can take their thrid language ( Malay, Japanese, French, German, Russian). Another exceptionall school is the sports school, they train students more talented in physical activities than in brainwork. One more extra thing about secondary education is after school activites, also known as CCA, is compusory and is included in your final year grades.
Yesh, its very confusing, don't bother reading it.
All in all, I guess student life is about the same, but no breaks between the 6 hrs of lessons except for recess. And most schools dont have free lockers, have to pay(service charge), so we got to carry every single book to school. No homerooms except for higher chinese, the classrooms are fixed. And... we have to wear crappy uniforms to school everyday, and maybe ties or badges for formal occasions. I think those are the only difference.
