While I'm not much of a fan of the heavy pressure marriage, the testimonies seem oddly happy... But maybe that was the angle they were going for in the story. I'm sure we wouldn't be nearly as amused to hear of a culture where if a man gives a woman a fish, she's forced to marry him.
(The story of the girl with the clams was so cute, though.)
