She's also very aggressive, so I fear for her boyfriends - well, not really smile.gif.

Just wait until she's 16...

::sees the wife doing laundry::
::picks lingerie arche wants to see his wife in::
"So when're you wearing these for me?"
"That's your daughter's."
"AHHH!"

::boy comes to the door::
"Yea, sure you can see her, now, I wanna let you know something."
::goes to quiet area::
"Whenever you go to do some huggin, or some kissin, and you harm her in any way, remember this next statement. I won't mind goin back to prison."

Both of these I got from comedian Bill Engvall, friggin hilarious guy, ok, I'm done here...
Kihaku
You really know how to raise a few laughs! laugh.gif
Poor arche.... no wait.... Poor potential boyfriend tongue.gif

I've got plenty of video and pictures from baby to now that will fully embaras my daughter and keep her in line smile.gif.
Kihaku
ooh! That's so cute! smile.gif My father never showed such dedication to me! wink.gif
Oh well, not all are those types.. he's more of a care-free type, I guess wink.gif
Ah, I really like your strategy, arche. I'm not sure about Kaitlyn though tongue.gif .

I've been re-watching the series. Now on 13+.

* She's so smart and only 3 years old

Roy: Aren't you supposed to be working
Hughes: I am working

I wish I could get paid to just talk about my daughter to people smile.gif.

XD! That was one of my favorite scenes ever. So awesome. Hughes is such a goofy goober.

And Arche, your daughter is adorable. I wanted to be a 'zoo pilot' when I was about that old. X3 She sounds so smart for her age though, aspiring to be a librarian and all. Lets hope libraries don't become obsolete in the next two decades or so. They're awesome places.
blueices
That reminds me of the Elysia's b-day party scene in the manga...
When boys want to play a game with her, Hughes whips out his gun and threatens the boys to stay away from his little girl.

I fell off the chair laughing at that one!

Roy: "Hughes, I'm working now..."
Hughes: "Oh! What a coincidence, I'm working too!"
Roy: "Tell me, is it possible to fry someone on the phone?"
Hughes: "Oh man, Roy, you ask some scary questions sometimes..."
Kihaku
Hughes's overprotectiveness can really be funny at times laugh.gif
Wait. It always is biggrin.gif
Ah, talking about your favourite thing... I also wish I could get paid for that biggrin.gif

ahh!! yes i was tearing at the end of ep. 25...it was so sad that hughes died! he just solved everything and envy turned into his wife and shot him....it was funny when he always talked about his daughter, and told roy to get a wife. The furneral was so sad that i couldn't stop the tears. It was so unexpectened of his death. But, what really made we upset was when the daughter said,' why are they burying daddy? how will daddy work? he can't work if they bury him.' sad.gif

I have to admit that Hughe's throwing knifes is the reason why i liked him. A great guy with knives, a hero to us all!

In honor of Hughes, I'm posting my daughter's day care report card. I'm so proud of her smile.gif.

Attending:Loses focus when distracted by friends. Can be very helpful and cooperative.

Socializing: Kaitlyn loves to socialize with her friends. She always has many interesting ideas to share with them.

Coordination:
Gross Motor: Kaitlyn enjoys our enrichment activities very much. She's always able to find something interesting in any activity.
Fine Motor: Kaitlyn excels in projects requiring fine motor skills.

Recognizing: Easily recognizes and discriminates shapes, sizes and colors.

Symbolizing and Imitating: Enjoys playing with symbolism. In addition, she is always ready to share her experiences or invent make-believe circumstances.

Creative Expression: Kaitlyn is very creative, both in pretend play and in arts and crafts. She loves role playing, which she can weave into almost any activity.

Concept Development: Right on track conceptually.

Language: Kaitlyn possesses excellent language skills. She speaks clearly and effectively, almost beyond her years.

Emotional Development: Overall, Kaitlyn seems very happy. She can be difficult to comfort at times when she receives a consequence for misbehavior.

Comments: Kaitlyn is a great addition to our class. She ahs great ideas and has a way or motivating others to get involved as well. She enjoys a wide range of activities and displays a high level of competence in them. Her language skills are most impressive to me - it is very interesting to listen to what she has to say throughout the day. In terms of friends, she seems to have a best friend and many other good friends. She and her best friend have a lot of fun together, provided they can stay out of trouble! I look forward to watching her develop her talents more over the next few months.
Toby-Chan
They have report cards for daycare now? Wow.
ἀρχή
Yeah, everything's evaluated these days.

But come on, isn't she doing great! j/k
Queen of the dammed
I was branded as a trouble maker when I was in daycare for beating this really large kid up....

I liked Hughes but I didn't think much of him because, as he said to Roy, he was a normal guy that wasn't gonna get caught up in the talent show of wierdos (lol), but he'd prolly stand a better chance at beating the homunculi on his own than majority of the characters in the series due to his combat abilities, he's friggin awesome. I had no idea how awesome he was until I saw him in action in episode 25... too bad he couldn't strike down the image of his loved one...
Quistis88
Wow, your daughter is almost like an ideal child, arche (IS the ideal child for you, I'm sure). biggrin.gif You are quite proud of her, I can see, and you have great reasons to be.

Wonderful language skills, eh? I hope I can see that on my future children's report card someday. Is this what happens when your father is a Philosophy major? tongue.gif
Kihaku
Oh yes, an excellent report card! biggrin.gif I'd also like to see "excellent language skills" on my chid's report card biggrin.gif (If I ever have a child that is...)
Although.. daycare report cards kind of scare me tongue.gif

To the day care's credit, they are structured. Even from infant room, which she started in, they have structured days. Of course it's flexible, but they plan activities to enhance the learning of the child. It's pretty nice how they do that I think. Makes me feel less like I'm just warehousing my kid.

I Love (loved *sniff*) Hughes! Thats actually how I picked my username. Whenever I read a book/manga or see a movie/anime my favorite character ALWAYS dies. I was trying to think of a username when I read chapter 15 in the manga for the first time. After sobbing for a while I decided that I am officially cursed. sad.gif
Hence the username.

I love his devotion to his family! It's not something that normally shows up in anime, so it was really great to have a character that was so proud of his wife and daughter.

arche: Your daughter is so beautiful! And she really does sound like the perfect daughter. Its so mature of her to want to be a librarian at age 4! I think at that age I wanted to be a cowgirl (no joke). blink.gif

PS: About the embarising pictures: My own dad has a box full of embarising photos and videos of me specifically to show at my eventual wedding night. rolleyes.gif

Yeah, that happens to me. They do that on purpose to me I know it. Get me all happy about a character and then steal them away from me! How cruel and mean.

Eh...I guess one day i'll have to write a book that has all those dead favorites together.
Victory_to_Battle
ACK Hughes IS my favorite character! *cries* I only read in the manga what happens to him so it's different than the show. but mustang was xcreaming over the phone and there was just a bloody body on the reiceing end and when his daugher started crying "why are they burrying daddy? he cant' go to work if they do that" I cried. the nmustang standing infront of his grave and he say's "oh no it's raining" and Riza's like what're you talk.." then he interupts "no, it's raining." and he's crying.... sad.gif *bawls*

now my question: what the hell whas that!?! that thing that killed hughes?
Queen of the dammed
Arche, I ENVY you.... I wish my little brat of a sister was like your daughter...

It was Envy disguised as assorted people. Now he is my absolute least favorite character. mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

I didn't care much for Envy before episode 25. I really didn't like him after episode 25.
saiyanprince
Damn that Envy. Losing Hughes was probably one of the saddest moments in FMA. He was one of the coolest characters and he couldn't even do alchemy.
Kihaku
I "hated" Envy for some time.. I got over it later, but I haven't liked him since tongue.gif
AliCat
I miss Hughes sad.gif I do have to agree, he kind of had to die. Who else could have and had that kind of impact? Maes was so cool. Not only did he love Elysia but he loved Ed and Al too (yeah, I didn't see anyone else offering to take the kids out for Ed's birthday or anything else for that matter).

Poor Elysia sad.gif If anything, she has a lot of stories about how much her daddy loved her for when she's older. *huggles the little girl*
Queen of the dammed
And the stories how he stuffed pictures of her in their faces.... laugh.gif

When I watch Hughes Furneral I swear it was a tear jerker! I understood the fact that he was protecting the rep of Mustang and the boy... Its still sad to see his death...

YAY!! Thanks nasser for reviving this thread smile.gif

Dangitt, Arche! Why'dya have to put up that pic there? You just made me cry! Not nice!

(Then again, maybe I'm just menstrual... ph34r.gif ) Still, waaaaaah! ;_;

I just watched episode 25 when I got that pic up there. I just had to post it because it's caused such an impact on me when I saw it again.

I still feel horrible about his death. I want him back!

I don't really want him back...not like this "Hughes comes back to life thing" it would make his death less meaningful if that happened. U.U I love your icon btw, that's an adorable picture of Hughes and Elysia, makes me wanna cry and swoon over how hot Hughes is wink.gif

I just can't help but wail over how 3 new characters were introduced whom looked so much like Hughes-san.

Kimblee
Archer
Greed

It's just...so weird.

And all throughout the series, Hughes is mentioned over and over and there are pictures of him everywhere (which adds a great touch)

FMA is the best series ever ; - ;

I certainly don't want him back via some alchemy back to life thing. The last thing I'd want is a Hughes homunculous blink.gif

I just don't want him to have died. Just like life, people who deserve death, live and those who deserve life, die sad.gif
Kitoky
And sometimes those who DO deserve death, die!

Brasque Gran! *evil glint*
Queen of the dammed
Yes!!!! Gran!!!! *jumps all over body and smushes the brains on the floor* But I wonder how he was like in the manga... we never saw him.....
DarkWater Alchemist
That's a fact... lots of good people die, but the evil guys go too tongue.gif

I never liked Basque Gran either, with his scary, scary moustache >_<

Ugh, that's a scary thought...I'd feel sorry for Ed and Al, having to fight him as a homunculous too.
ἀρχή
If Hughes became a homunculus, he'd kick Ed and Al's asses without a doubt.

I can't believe I even considered that option dry.gif
konic vince
I liked how it showed Mustang at the funeral...you see more of what he is in that episode, and at the funeral he notes "It's starting to rain" but the sky is clear, only his eyes are "raining"

And even if there was a Hughes homunculous, he wouldn't have to be evil. The homunculous are all just driven by some motive, and as you saw, Greed didn't have killing in mind, neither did Wrath til he got the red stones, etc
Hilde Knight
I find it horribly ironic that in the beginning of episode 25, Hughes was saying that he didn't want to have to kill the enemy, so he requested a desk job, and then died in action.

That fact always seems to add another few minutes in my Hughes' crying sessions.
24k
Hughes was most definitely a character to be remembered. Though many of you say it wasn't right for him to die, and that he should have survived or something....Well thats really a bad idea. Remember in Dragonball Z how every time someone dies, they come back like 10 episodes later?? sleep.gif ...well that made the anime lose it's emotion. I mean you know the person is not really dead...

Ah yes, Gran death, totally! (rocks in manga too... he only got MENTIONED that he died XD)

I like your daughter's picture... you know, the first thing I had in mind was O_O ELYSIA-CHAN COSPLAY!!!!

She has like a similar hair color and her hair style too! She is cute~~~

I wish I can have a child like your daughter (... which will never happen since I am inpreganated <-- spelling? >.>; my english sucks really)

I agree with all points you all made about Hughes's death and such... and good point about DragonBall... I was so... kinda, disappointed that Goku came back in life once again for Buu's battle... cuz I literally cried my heart out when Gohan was crying at the loss of his father... (I only read manga, I don't watch anime...)

Hughes's death was tragic... and really, was necessary... I couldn't hold back anymore when Ed saw Hughes's spirit (my though over there "Oh my... altho you have... passed away and you still worry about the others... how... caring of you... *cries*")
