The NasserGamer Review:

Well I had my first test run on the Full Metal Alchemist the game runs like a Action/RPG like Dynasty Warrior or Devil May Cry, unfortunately the controls are stiff...You start with Edward's armblade... You can transmute weaponsusing objects on the field....Or create turrents(Cannons, Machine Gun) which will for a while do heavy damage to enemies until ammo runs out, and the last thing you can create traps for your foolish enemies.. Al is there to back up and which makes him feel more like a summon then a secondary character.. The reason for this is because the only option you have are to call him, have him guard you, have him do a thrust attack, have him grab a weapon you just transmuted or use a turrent you just transmuted.. The alchemy aspect is limited depending on the object certain object on the field do either:

Red: Ed Only Weapons
Blue: Al Only Weapons
Green: Turrents/Weapon for both! or Traps

Theres a equip system and a item system so you can become stonger as you play...I haven't finished the game but it seems that there is a New Game + Option and if there isn't this lacking aspect ruins the gameplay.. I suggest this if you a hardcore FMA fan, gennerally there are a couple of flaws that still bug me. Like when you zoom in to you character he suddenly disappears from sight.... Or the previously mentioned tight controls and the extreme lack of voiceovers except in the CG Animated Movies.. But all this still didn't stop me from buying it...And the Square-Enix name alone is enough reason for collection purposes.... I hope this help and if you have any question I'll be happy to help! Good Luck Fellow Gamers!

THE GAME IS TIGHT! I GOT IT YESTERDAY, IT CAME OUT IN THE STATES 19, ITS SO GREAT, THE ONLY THING I WISH IT HAD WAS THE ANIME OPENING THEME. THATS MY SONG BITCHES! LOL. AND SAVING UR GAME IS EASY KIDDO, THERE ARE LITTLE YELLOW PILLARS WITH THE SYMBOL ON THE BACK OF ED'S SHALL IN THEM. U STEP IN IT AND PRESS THE SQUARE. THEN ULL BE ABLE TO SAVE.

Just my two cents - I really love the game. I'm very simple minded, and not really much of a gamer, but I'm endlessly amused by new FMA footage. And I actually really like the dub (from what I've seen).

Besides, seeing Roy crossdress is SO funny happy.gif

just noticed that my copy came in the mail today... honestly if i weren't a fan of the subs i would think this game was mediocre at best.

the cutscenes would have been great, if it werent for the english dubbing. the voices sound way too hollow and "tin can string phone"-like. also what the hell is wrong with armstrongs voice? that is the worst voice acting i've ever heard, godzilla dubbing included. its like the VA had no idea who Alex Louis Armstrong is. the dialogue itself is also horrible, its like they hired the writers of pokemon and had them coached by the writers from every charles bronson movie or that guy that wrote that horrible story in the fan fic section.

the gameplay is neither here nor there, its just plain generic. the only thing that differentiates it other titles is the alchemy, which is done pretty well. the camera system however.... well let's just say the douche nozzles that wrote the camera engine must have gone to the Resident Evil Academy for the Worst Camera System EVER.

but since i AM a FMA fan i will give this a passin grade... 70% but no more.

oh as a side note did anyone else notice that the voice of te first boss is the guy that is the voice for Mr. Satan (Hercule for those of you who have only seen the american version) from DBZ?

so in closing: decent gameplay, bad camera engine, ABSOLUTE SHIT VAs

i heard the game is really easy and only 15 hours of gameplay

id still buy it and add it to my collection of FMA stuff

wow, i haven't been to this thread in a while, but it seems like someone needs a nap. dry.gif  take some valium, kid, and chill out, okay?  i'm against arguing with people who are no challenge to debate with, so i won't say anything more than maybe if you listened to the difference in the emotions of the japanese vs. the english you would see why so many people dislike dubs.  people are entitled to an opinion, and i hate the way 95% of anime is dubbed into english, i'd rather learn japanese.

but that doesn't mean i expect *everyone* to feel that way...huh.gif  grow up.

and yes, i also heard that tobenai tenshi was a bit of a let-down as far as gameplay goes.  they said the scrolling text was painfully slow, and the action and fight sequences were lacking in enthusiasm and challenge.

i personally am enjoying omoide no soumeikyouku tho.  hee, chibi pixellated roy is adorable!  XD

Sorry, I guess I did overreact a bit. It's just your very short post left me with the impression that your just another mindless dub hater that is confused as to how anyone could possibly prefer the dub over the sub (which I do), and it bothered me. If that is not the case then I apologize for accusing you of it.

Think Blockbuster would have the game now? I may go down and rent it with my gift card. wink.gif

P.S: I watched the sub for the hell of it the other day, and I must say the emotion really isn't that different at all...

on ign.com, it got a 6.4, not very good. tsk tsk

*pokes Game Informer* You really want to listen to them? Yes, everyone has their own opinion, so just because a few magazines gave it a crappy rating doesnt mean you won't like it. dry.gif

And I will most likely buy it, eh I love sucky games, they make me feel like I'm actually good at them *.* And then I can sit there and smile at the fact that Ed is in it. *shot*

i really like the game but it would be better if you had more alchemy attacks because it sucks that you can only do stonespikes for an alcmey attack except for that i really like the game.

Actually, you can do more. There are combination attacks you can use with Al that are fairly powerful (i.e. you can transmute a big, spikey pole and Al will swing it around to hit everyone. Also, you can create a huge alchemy array that will create glowing "stone spikes" that usually knock out all the enemies in one attack.)

I personally like the red & yellow mallot you can transmute and then whack people with =P

that game was really cool sure the graphics arent great but is still awsome

My opinions on the Fullmetal Alchemist: and the Broken Angel PS2 game (Released January 19, 2005):

Heh, well I'm not an RPG master or anything, but I will admit that some of the FMA game (for the PS2 mind you) features will need some getting used to.

I actually liked the camera angles due to the fact that you're in full control of them. (In fact, the camera angle button is the right analog stick if you're wondering.) So instead of dealing with the R1 and R2 crappola buttons, you have an analog stick! YAY!!! happy.gif

Alrightie, this is a given: if you DON'T like the Eng dub of the FMA anime, then you're not gonna like the anime scenes in the game... (Damn, I'm gonna explode if ONE MORE PERSON complains about the dub of the game. It's the same freakin' dubbing as the anime, bakas! >_>;)

*Ahem* Gomen. =_=;;; Alright, where was I? Oh yeah... Well, I have to admit that I'm REALLY disappointed about the "no Hughes" in the credits. He's definitely not in the anime scenes, and who the hell knows if he'll even appear in the game... *sigh*

Er... I'm not even gonna bother explaining the "real time" of the game, since you guys are more experienced than me about that stuff. But, I can say this, having to go thru several areas/towns to get to your destination can be DAMN ANNOYING. (But, that's the deal with most RPG games, so yeah.) Oh, and the graphics are VERY NICE. (So there, if you were wandering.) But when peeps talk, it's just a 2D pic of him/her instead of the game's 3D prettiness (like in Star Ocean:Til the End of Time... the 3D prettiness is there no matter what.) So that's a "no-no" from Enix, but I guess I'll forgive them since it's an FMA game for the PS2. =^^=

Alrighties, I'm done babbling now. Er... I hope my speech made sense... O_O;;;

...game... o.k. the last post was great, she articulated her point well, I play alot of RPG's, i mean alot, Chrono Trigger being the best of all time, with Final Fantasy 7 coming a very close second. Anywho, the game is good, not great not bad, good. the character sprites resemble the drawn characters, no matter what you say the voices that funimation chose to play everyones voices are good. the guy that plays piccolo, vegeta, and yamcha (along with a butt load of random people) plays Armstrong. He's a great Voice acter(Chris Sabot). Half of you bitching couldnt do it, trust me its hard, im going to school to become one. And how can u bitch about the voices not matching the words, or should i say the mouth movements. Its ANIME... they dont make it for us...... we just get it when there done. if ur gonna bitch about the mouth moving with the words, u pay the people who draw the damn show to redraw it so u cant bitch bitch anymore. be happy u get to even watch a great show like fma. i been into anime since they tried to say the original Transformers was anime * which its not* it took almost ten years for dragonball (not z) to get here, even after z was the most popular show on tv, and toei (before funimation) chose the cast. Ur never gonna get a anime where japanese vocals match english.... so get over it. u dont watch the show for the vocals anyway do u. no u watch it for the story. sure the story is helped by the voices, but they do a great job. trust, me i seen some really shitty dubing. for real on that.(speed racer) <----- good point huh....... (breaths)

anyways, back to the game. its good, the only thing i have gripes with is the fact that they didnt put that bad ass opening theme in the game.... i already got the soundtrack to the show. its so great, but how often do the match music from the show to the game, almost never. oh and on the hughes note, hes my fav character. that mans a pimp.... and i bet he would own u for free in a fist fight, i would have like to see him in the game too. wait i just though of something, i forgot one thing, i also dont like that u cant play with the other alchemists, or with windre (cant spell her name) she would be great. building u stuff to fight with. the second game has so much to work with. but i get sick of hearing about dubbing. try this if u dont like it. I play street fighter, i mean hardcore, travel the conutry, hardcore. i play alot of fighting games. now let me ask u whiners this. you hate the way america does anime. u should hear the way japanese do english. its bad, worse than what we have to deal with. give it a shot, go play the game capcom vs snk 2. then u will know the pain.

i think im done bitching out the bitchers now. the game is good, it 2 has alot of promise as long as they use the elements from the show to make the game. cuz to be honest thats what we all really want. Right.

(turns around and throws his hat across the room) O.K.! (Terry Bogard)<-- my hero.

I think it's actually a really good game, it has some drawbacks, but yes every game has that. Either way i would give it like an 8 or something like that

sorry about the double post, my comp is being really slow

Well more of a triple post now.
Anyway it is a standard action RPG game in the essence that Square has been making recently, and only fans of the anime would actually get interested in it alot *and enought to play through again to obtain all the extra stuff..

Sure it's repetive, and such. Square-Enix didn't put that much of a budget in it, even though it was just becoming and anime, and have been under their belt since the first chapter. We can expect the sequals and other games made by S-E to be better, since the populous would want a better game for FMA.

Side note: I heard Dream Carnival *the FMA SSB(M) style game* is awesome

Just a reminder to all of you... the game itself was releases when the anime itself was released... so of course Square-Enix wouldn't put as much budget on it as the second game

The "Devil of Red Elixir" 's gameplay... well, I prefer "Broken Angel" 's game play altho the graphics on "Elixir" is better... and the best of all for "Elixir"... THE VA's DUBBED EVERY SINGLE LINE OF IT~~~<3 <3 <3 (I got pivate copy of all three PS2 games) and yea, if you are a big fan of Edward Elric/Alchemy... then you will love these games... in fact I am replaying both of them right now... (I got bored from Dream Carnival pretty... fast maybe because I am not a street fighter person... ^^; ) and really, I bought the games for it is FMA and don't give a damn to those ratings (I don't surf game sites... I don't even play video games =\ repeating again... I play it cuz it's FMA and the VA's are in it XD and I am currently learning Japanese ^^; )

"Elixir" is much easier than "Angel" by the way... which disappointed me sad.gif

rant: Armony is annoying...

that is somewhat true, Wolfwood. But in order to make the game good it also has to be good graphics, handling, and many more things. The whole thing can't be judged just because of gameplay.

Well... maybe because I am a girl? Besides, I am more of a rpg/puzzle/brain-killing type of games rather than streat fighters-type (beating A, yay, go beat B now.)

The other one, by Bandai, is called "Dream Carnival."

Spoilers/details on Dream Carnival: (note, they ARE really spoilers for the story on Dream Carnival so don't read if you don't want them spoiled)

In dream carnival there are 6 scenerios with 2 secret scenerios (which I don't have the patience to unlock). Characters, Edward, Alphonse, Winry, Izumi (you need to unlock her with some special item), Hughes, Armstrong, Lust, Gluttony, Scar, Greed, and the Fuhrer. (I think there are a few more secret ones).

Story: for all scene, you beat up other characters, beat the fuhrer, and get your wish granted. (spoiler for the 6 stories now)
Scene 1: Save da cats~ Al has found a lot of cats, so Ed decided to help him out! So, in this scene, you are Ed, tag team with Al, you beat up everyone, and finally, you helped Al build a cathouse in the military!! ^-^ (and there is a joke after this XD)

Scene 2: (not sure what this one is about cuz my Jap still sucks) You are Riza, and you tag team with Roy... I dunno why, but anyways, you date with Roy after you beat everybody... hmm...

Scene 3: Lust & Gluttony (if I remember correctly... I don't remember the order of the scenes ^^wink.gif... Gluttony wants a lot of yummy food, so as Lust, you help him... u tag team Glutony, beat up everyone, and the fuhrer gives you two lots of good food.

Scene 4: You are Winry and you heard that there are some automail specialist in the military and you successfully convinced Ed to tag team with you so that you get to learn that automail skillz... (Al got really, really angry with you two dumping him X3) and after beating fuhrer, learned the skill, you equiped something really interesting into Ed's automail... XDDD

Scene 5: You are Hughes~ <3 you love your daughter so much that you want to make her birthday (and Glacia's too I believe) a national holiday for the military! so you tag team with Armstrong (who was so touched by your love for your family), beat the fuhrer, kinda got your wish granted but things didn't come out exactly as you wished...

Scene 6: You are Alphonse (KYAAAA~ ARU!!!~~ *cough* excuse my fangirlness XP) and you want a girlfriend! (pick me, pick me! *_*) And Greed saw thought this and decided to help you cuz he wants woman for himself too! (this one is funny XD) And finally, after you beat everyone, Greed help you ask the Fuhrer for women and... well, guess who Alphonse got ^^; (she appeared in both manga and anime before... and obviouly not Winry...)
There are also VS mode for 2 players... forgot to mention, the story mode is 1 player only.

There is also a Alchemy House for Ed to transmute items obtained from VS mode into gallery stuff and secret story mode/character wink.gif

That's it for now... ask if you got more to ask (or PM if want to know the whole story ending in those 6 scenes)
COM_GB3
I See prewiew and it seem cool laugh.gif
Commender GB3
Me too, the one with the train on gamespot^^ laugh.gif
Panzer Dragoon
XD KYAAA! Al wants a girlfriend?! He already has millions of them here!! (I guess fangirlness will take over the world.)

I actually like any game that has to do with things I like. I don't have a PS2 so I try to go over to my friend's often. I hope Dream Carnival will come to the U.S. very soon. tongue.gif

Panzer Dragoon: I like your attached thumbnail (Ohh, so that's what he said? XD I was wonderinf why he called Al stupid... hehe my useless jap skillz XD) I love Ed's reaction at the last part when he found out that Al *kinda* got a girlfriend XD
Alchemist401
Hey i brought both the fma games for the ps2, but i havent played them yet. The problem is, because they are the american versions and not the australian versions my pS2 doesnt read the disks. I so want to play them but i cant.
AA battery
wow, this 2 years old thread has been revived...

Edit: >_> @ sweety_pie, then in what way is your comment "beneficial/helpful" to this thread? Would it have been better if I commented on how Alchemist401 really really really should've checked all the regions-related information before forking money over to buy two games that weren't compatible with his PS2? Notice that I wasn't the one that revived this 2 years old thread? Geez, hackers.
sweety_pie
^@AA Battery - Please don't spam.
misha-san
I just bought the game!! Its really not that cool. Im already stuck with the first boss fight!!
its like a giant bug-chimera. I just can't kill it!!! that's why I hate bugs!!!! sad.gif
The gameplay is good actually,(maybe its just me not knowing how to fight properly XD)
the only bad thing is that it seems they only put Al in there because they HAD to. Besides its as if Ed just uses him!! like "guard me"!! It would have been much cooler if Al had a mind of his own.
I hope it gets more interesting from now on.
