do you normally check share/winny/perfect dark for scans?
if you get no response here, that might be your best bet.

You may be right - I may have to finally bite the bullet and learn to use those damn things (I tried once like a million years ago and never really got much out of it)

they work pretty well if you have the right set of parameters: correct search terms, a good nodelist, enough disk space, bandwidth, ports not blocked, moons are aligned properly. I managed to download several r2 dvd isos over the summer with share.

In about a week or so I should have a bit more free time and wouldn't mind helping you via IRC. Over IRC, I can walk you through setup/searching/downloading for share. I use the asunder nick on the Rizon network.

However, I must add, the higher quality scanner (1100x1600, I think it's already good enough for scanlation) on Share, doesn't get his/her stuff out until about a week later.

If you are so desperate, you might as well order GanGan via some Japanese bookstores that do the service, and have them send it with EMS. They would arrive within a day of publish. (Expect to spend $20+US per book)

Is anyone else fed up with the scanlation scene as of late?

And no. I don't complain as long as I get something.

a Japanese bookstore nearby that gets Gangan every month

Japanese bookstores normally gets their more popular titles via Airmail, and that still takes a week or so. You'd have to get them to EMS order the books and of course, you'd have to pay a lot for that as that makes it a special order.

OT:
Let's just admit the Hagaren fandom is dying... I used to be able to get relatively good quality raws within 2 days from Share (well, there would also be a lot of FAKE virus/trojan infested files during those time), and that's not the case anymore (not much fake FMA files nowadays as well).

I'm not really desperate...I guess I was just missing the days working with TMI and their HQ scans and needed to vent a little tongue.gif

That...that is just so sad T_T Especially coupled with your avatar.

Actually, I do live near a Japanese bookstore and I'm planning on stopping by there tomorrow. I can ask when they expect to get it in. I have to go back to school on Monday (which is, unfortunately, two hours away from home), but if it comes in before then I'd be willing to buy a copy and make some scans. I've scanned manga from books for MMVs before and they came out pretty nicely. Plus I don't mind spending the money on Gangan now that I'm taking Japanese classes and have a slight chance of sorta kinda understanding some of it (or at least getting some kind of learning experience out of trying ^_-).

I'll do my best, but unfortunately I can't promise anything. If it's true that they won't get it for a week then I don't know if I'll be able to get a copy. :/
Dhazard06
@spoonyalchemist - So, will you be able to scan it? I hope that you can get a copy laugh.gif

Ahh, sorry, forgot to come back and update you guys.

It looks like a no go. sad.gif The lady at the bookstore told me that they don't get magazines there until 3-4 weeks after they're released. >_< Apparently they have to wait for it to go through places in California and on the east coast, and then we midwesterners the leftovers. Which is ridiculous, since it's a very big Japanese marketplace and there's a large Japanese population in my town.

Sorry, guys. sad.gif I really wish I could have done it.

@spoonyalchemist - Well,it is not really a problem, bc FMA is released monthly.. so by the time you get your copy and scan in HQ, another chap is going to be released (then we can work on doing HQ scanlation and be behind only one chap - just like most groups do, Japflap for example) wink.gif
spoonyalchemist
I'm sorry, usually I only visit this forum around chapter release time and I, once again, forgot to come an reply in this thread! >_<

@Dhazard06 - If I made FMA scans, even that late, would you use them? I would be happy to make them if I knew they were going to be used!:D

But I wouldn't be able to be terribly consistent with the timing because I'm always going back and forth between school and home. The next time I go back will be for Thanksgiving, at which point I will be able to get the November issue (not the December, which will be the most recent even though technically it will still be December) and possibly the October, if they have leftover copies.

<@Dhazard06 - Thank you for your offer of services, but HisshouBuraiKen's original post calls for High Quality scans in a few days after the release of the chapter in Japan and not week later or even later yet.
But, thank you for your kind offer. ^^ ~ Tombow>

Closing the thread because basically the answer to this is what AA battery has posted, to have Japanese bookstore send the mag by EMS (and pay for it) and HisshouBuraiKen posted that he is not that desperate. ^^
Merged thread. ~ Tombow
