omigod, your brother said that??? i'm so glad he was wrong! i didn't even THINK of that!!! *hides in the corner* bad enough we lost hughes, but that would have been absolutely horrible! aaah!
Spoiler: (Click here to Display)
as for lust's death, i did prefer her anime death to her manga death... in fact, i preferred anime lust to manga lust, because in the anime she was a lot more...not evil. she just never struck me as the bad guy who WANTED to be bad, you know? like kagura from inuyasha, she always seemed to me like the character who was doing this for her own agenda and wasn't really bad underneath... but in the manga, she was just...mean... so i liked her anime death because it seemed more appropriate to her... but the manga death looked cooler.

Hughes. That made me CRY. Hughes was such a cool guy and like... I don't know.
The music was heart breaking, and then Elysia, dear god...
And well. It started to rain.

That was so touching. Hawkeye should've said something to comfort him dammit.

It was tragic alright!!! Also when there's a flashback between him and Roy!!! DAMN!!!

tokage: Yeah, he did...And it would kind of make sense with Roy following his best friend..

he was really convinced about that too. I started to become scared, because I always believe in the worst and FMA made that quite possible
Yup, I agree with the Lust part too.

And I prefered the Lust in the anime also, even though she did something horrible to Lujon

She was part good and seemed a little human in a way with all those memories...
Nemu: Yeah, exactly... although she kind of said (indirectly) with her comment that she understands him
Queen: Don't cry! It's really sad and all... but FMA would be missing something without those deaths. *big hug*

I cried SO hard at Hughes funeral. I think that was the most tragic death and it should be because Hughes is such a loveable character and if anyone said that he was annoying I would seriously travel to wherever they live and smack them over the head with Al's helmet.

Nina, she was innocent, a victim of a psycopathic father. She was really cute, and that really sounds wierd, considering it came from a guy. She was very young, and was turned into a Chimera with Alexander. Then Scar came along. I think that they should've turned Shou Tucker into a chimera too, and then do the same thing to him. Then there's the part when Ed and Al found what was left of Nina/Alexander on the wall.

i don't think that hawkeye could have said anything to him then that would comfort him, other than agreeing that yes, it was raining. i'm not sure how to put this but i think that any other words would have cheapened the moment. i think roy just needed to quietly cry and deal with the fact that his best friend was six feet under and not coming back.
as for the end of the series, hawkeye doesn't seem like the kind of person who would say something like "i love you" and "i'm so glad you're okay" that blatantly. what she said and did seems to fit her personality more -- saying things indirectly and conveying her feelings in a more subtle manner, being a companion to roy and taking care of him, killing his attacker, etc. i didn't really find her stiff at all when she was crying and screaming over his limp, bleeding body.

As for whether we can throw Ed's "death" into this:
Even though Ed isn't technically "dead" If not for the promise of the movie, I would have been very very depressed.

I'm voting for Hughes too... it was so unexpected, during all the scene I was thinking "hey! they aren't going to kill him! they can't! he has a family!" but then they actually did it! In the funeral scene my eyes were full of tears
Somehow I was expecting Nina's death, she was just too kind and cute and I knew something really bad was going to happen... it was very sad, but I think that without her death Ed and Al wouldn't be the same, it marked their personalities.
Scar's death was very emotive...
Spoiler: (Click here to Display)
when he talks about his brother, when he says he has no name, and finally when he says that he doesn't have to worry because he won't be able to sleep anymore (I don't know how was the quote but.. you know what I mean

) I almost cried again. It's almost funny how I forgot about all the murderings, or about how he almost killed Ed (more than once xD), or that he is officially one of the "bad guys".. for that moment he is just a hero
I agree with Blueices about Ed, it I haven't knew about the movie, surely I would have got depressed

Envy, actually, after Hughes confronted Sloth and stuck Lust in the forehead with a throwing knife. I remember watching the beginning of that episode and having a suspicion that something horrible was about to happen, but I was like "nah, Hughes can't die" and Envy was like "*bang*" and I was like "NOOOOOOOOOO WTF ;_____________;" and Elysia was like ";_;" and Roy was like "damn you, Hughes ;_;" and...
...yeah.

;;
Inyhoo, I'da voted for Roy's "death", but he didn't die. Thank God. Hughes' was personally by far the most sentimental and "WTF HOW DARE THEY ;_______;"-inspiring, but Lust did come in a close second. Someone spoiled me on Nina's death beforehand, so I wasn't all that surprised, but it was still freaking sudden.

Hughes without question. Everyone pretty much hit the nail on the head why too. What was really sad for me though is he reminded me of my dad and myself. IT really shook me up. Usually my favorite character dies, so I was expecting Roy to go. Never thought it would be Hughes because he did logistic missions. Plus, he was kind of like the dad the brothers never had. . in a way

You lucky ones, who can watch FMA from Cartoon Network. In Finland there is only DB and Hamtaro on CN channel. >.< And I can't watch even them, cause we don't have a digibox.. siiigh..
But it really is tragic when you have to tell somehow to your daughter, than her dad's dead.

To me Nina's death wasn't as tragic as the death of Hughes because you didn't get to know the character all so well. The military burial made his death even sadder. Not to mention his daughter asking why he was being buried when he still had work to be done.
