Best view of it will be here in Canada. XD Yay. I hope I get to see it unless clouds block my view. sad.gif

Since it's the winter solstice here in Canada tonight will be the blackest night(since it is the longest period of darkness we experience in a year).

So have you guys seen a lunar eclipse or solar eclipse before?

I can't remember if I've seen a lunar one before. I hope I do tonight! I saw a solar eclipse when I was a child. I went with my class to a place where we got special glasses so we could look at it.

Lunar eclipses are safe to look at with your eyes. With solar ones you need special glasses or you'll damage your eyes.

I don't think normal cameras can capture videos/pictures of things like that very well.

I'm excited for this. There hasn't been a lunar eclipse on the winter solstice for 750 years, so its pretty cool. Where I am, the clouds are drifting back and forth. I've got my alarm set for 3:30, but I may set it back to 2:30, just in case.

If he's okay with it, I was considering calling my boyfriend to watch it with him, since it'd be something special. Watching something like that with the object of your affection that may not happen again for another 750 years? Pretty romantic, I'd say.

Yeah very true. XD On the news they were talking to some people and there was a couple who plans to get engaged tonight while looking at the solar eclipse.

Anyway, it's started! I just looked outside and the moon has started to become covered!

I've got complete cloud cover, so I'm watching it via NASA. Not quite the same, but I'm still watching it live-ish.

Oooh yeah, it was visible here in the UK, this morning, too. smile.gif Last time there was a lunar eclipse I was 11, and I was 8 when the last solar eclipse took place.. We got a picture of the last lunar eclipse, too, with a polaroid camera no less. It came out fine- wish we still had the picture. laugh.gif

I ended up seeing the full eclipse with my own eyes standing outside on my driveway.

It was so beautiful. It was red in colour and everything. Truly amazing.
