I'm thrilled it's going to be about them, I'm speechless really because they're my top three characters ^^ Though I hope to see even if it's just a little about the other characters. The OVA that was recently released was about Roy so maybe that's why the gaiden is about different characters.

I'm looking forward to this. How long are gaidens usually? I'm glad to hear more about Ed, Winry, and Al, but it would be nice to hear more about Roy et. al. Maybe they'll be mentioned at least.

Not gonna lie, I'm pretty disappointed its not about Roy (or anyone other than the main trio, for that matter). He and Hawkeye and the rest of the crew were so scarcely shown in the last chapter (vs Ed and Al and Winry, who were in a large chunk of it for obvious reasons) that it would have been amazing to have a gaiden about them. :-/ It seemed pretty likely it would have been about him given all the stuff Arakawa said (that she was 'done' with Ed&Al's story, how if she wrote a gaiden she would want it to be about Roy becoming fuhrer, etc), and that they are bundling the issue with a Roy & Hayate thing.
Despite my disappointment and grumbling, I'm still looking foward to reading this, especially with normal!Al in it (omggg), and there is always a chance that other characters will make an appearance! :-D thanks a lot for the link & info!

I think the reason I let my hopes up for a Roy story was because of the interview as well. Because of the lack of Roy in the last chapter, I was hoping it'd be about him, but there's potential lying in this as well! I love seeing Al in his body, and it'd be interesting if there's some EdWin or Daddy!Ed in there somewhere. I'm excited, even if my intitial reaction was, "What, no Roy??!"

Delurking just to say that I'm epically disappointed too. I mean, I'm still looking forward to it - FMA is just that kind of awesome, but Ed, Al and Winry got their closure and plenty of it. Team Mustang just kind of disappears off the map... >.<

the cover is good . but if its edwin and al , the only thing we're gettin in the gaiden , then im pretty much disappointed .

(which would be weird if she didn't. )My thoughts exactly!! It's only been three months and we already have a gaiden. I'm sure there will be more of them over time and I'm sure we will get more Roy-tachi/Royai/various other characters soon enough.
But in the meantime, I am psyched!!
I am a shameless fan of the Golden Trio and EdWin in particular and even thought they got the most time in the final chapter (as they should have), there were still plenty of minor loose ends that could have been tied up more soundly (which I blame largely on the rush to end the manga on time for "Brotherhood"). I hope it's a longer gaiden! Most gaidens are usually short-ish (a dozen pages or so), but maybe we'll get lucky since there seems to be a fair amount of fuss around this one... and I am once again grateful to be living in a major city with several Japanese areas and bookstores, one of which I pre-ordered my copy at over a month ago, LOL.

I'm also disappointed by the lack of Royai, but then again, more FMA is more FMA, so I guess it's not all that bad. And if it's about (108 spoiler) the brothers coming back from their adventures, isn't there a chance that they might visit some of their old friends, too? -wishful thinking-
Also, since this was unexpected and we didn't think we were getting anything more about these guys, maybe the movie is to be about the events between the end and this gaiden? It seems likely to me, though I myself am hoping for a midquel anyway...

Oooh, that's really nice, thanks for sharing! Looking at that picture makes me wonder if this will be about Ed, Al and Winry trying to decide what to do with Al's old armor.

I'm disappointed, I wanted the Gaiden to be abou the Mustang- tachi. I've never really liked Manga Ed, he is bearable but more of the Rizembuul Trio. I mean, we got enough of it in the last chapter. We got nothing of the Mustang team! We want Mustang-team!
