I completely forgot about this chapter.

It's amusing how much of FMA takes place on and around trains xD They seem almost like a constant in the brothers' lives. The scenes I can quote off the top of my head are the 'Next time you will cry you will cry tears of joy!' scene, the Kimbley/scar fight, Bradley's assassination attempt, and even the ending! It's possibly just a plot device, but tell me if any of you have an opinion on what it could be symbolic of.

There's a WHO IS A SHRIMP freak out that wasn't noted on the front page.

FMA: a manga about muscular men who sparkle and bond over beating up other people. (Page 23)

Story inconsistency: should Ed's automail really be able to cut through the other one? (Page 33)

I love it how for someone dedicating his life to getting rid of them, Ed sure likes to brag about his automail.

Trademark alchemy shown: Roy's flames!

And from that chapter onwards, FA started meaning Flame Alchemist and Roy Mustang started his illustrious career in hogging all the screentime.

It's funny how at this point the military is still depicted so damn nicely. Hakuro just wanted to, uh, take a break from plotting to kill off half the country. I liked how the guy in the first FMAB episode hinted he had some legitimate reasons to blow up the government - the machine-gun-arm-guy in this chapter in contrast didn't really bring much to the story. But then again I guess it's early in the story, and kidnapping is never really condonable.

(Unless you're Roy Mustang. Or you're just framing a kidnapping so the victim can escape the rabid psycopath working for the millitary. Or your victim is a homunculus, which is a pretty bad idea anyway.)

It's nice to realise that after revisiting the story so many times I still find Ed and Al very entertaining.

Tehehe, we do. (Of course! ) That's the Ed's "Chibi" moment. But, we like your description, hence editing that part to add the "shrimp" description. Thank you for your input! ^^

I think it's plausible that Ed's automail can cut through the other one. It shows that his automail is better than the other one!

Yeah, I figured "Why not?" and added the Lion Statue into the Kitty Count...he is a big kitty.
Sadly, no other Kitty finds for this chapter. If anyone thinks otherwise, or finds one I missed, feel free to let me know and I'll add it to the post. :3

I think the indication with Ed cutting through Bald's automail was that the guy had bought an incredibly cheap automail. Hence the line about him going with a cheaper model. It was an indication that Ed's automail was top of line. Not to mention, Ed's an alchemist, it goes without saying he could've made his Automail stronger withe alchemy.

What's nice about that scene is that it's the first time in the series we get a real indication that automail is more of a business thing than a medical thing. We will learn later just how far this goes but for now, it's a nice little hint to how automail is handled in Ametris. I mean when you consider that automail is a medical NEED for some people, the fact that it's expensive and the government doesn't seem to aide in that, tells alot really.

As for this chapter, there's alot I love about this chapter, especially Al's 'welcome', as well as the first appearance of Mustang. That being said, as with alot of early chapters, this felt really episodic and more stand alone and silly. Yeah some of the ideas and characters here would come into play but overall, this chapter is pretty skippable in the grand scheme of things.
