Finally, the forbidden story of bond is told.

It ended in June 2010 and the accumulated total of series was over 50 million copies, "Fullmetal Alchemist" drawn by Arakawa Hiromu.
Elric brothers who committed a taboo, the original manga which depicted their pitiless journey and the whereabouts of their soul on on a magnificent scale called forth an echo.
Also, TV animation which was aired in accordance with the ending of manga is still fresh in our minds.
That "Fullmetal Alchemist" appears on a screen in summer 2011 again.
The director, Kazuya Murata (The series of "CODE GEASS Lelouch of the Rebellion") and character designer and chief key animation supervisor, Kenichi Konishi ("Tokyo Godfathers") are received as the new staff, in addition, the movie brings in Yuichi Shinpo who is the novelist and known for "Whiteout" etc as the screenwriter.
Studio Bones engages in creation of anime as well as previous series, and "Fullmetal Alchemist The sacred star on Wailing Hill (Miros)" will be delivered with the scale just like the movie.
Edward Elric and his young brother, Alphonse - they were still on the middle of journey with being tossed about by fateful waves...
The story of bond which is finally told rises the curtain here now.

Screen caps from the promo that was aired in Japan, courtesy of RoytheFlameAlchemist that was originally posted here.

Additional screen caps from the trailer, posted by Kasumisty here and by Anomia Grey here, both originally capped by duckroll and posted on Animesuki.

(The pic below looks like Milos city burning? ...wild-guess ^^)

(The pic below looks like the charred remain of Milos city? ..wild-guess ^^)

Pre-sale tickets will go on sale on Monday, Nov. 22, 2010 in Japan.

Ticket is 1,300 Yen for adult and 800 Yen for child (tax included).

Pic of pre-sale pre-ticket (traded for the real ticket later), bonus cell-phone strap for getting pre-sale ticket, and the bonus drawing by Arakawa when buying GanGan mag and pre-sale ticket. (Info provided by Kasumisty and A Pierrot's Aria here)

(We'll add more, as we learn more on the movie. ^^)

The Japanese title of the movie is "鋼の錬金術師 嘆きの丘(ミロス)の聖なる星"

tentatively, I'm translating it as... "Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of the Sorrow Mountain (Milos)"
I assume the Sorrow Mountain= Milos here. ^^

And, here is the Gyao site that will show the 31 seconds movie promo starting Nov. 15, 2010. (And, yap, only people in Japan can view the promo vid. T.T)

YES!

"The theater version (i.e. movie) of FMA is coming!!" (What it actually says is that it has been decided to produce FMA movie. ^^)
penguintruth
Please let Arakawa write the story for the new movie...

(I wouldn't mind if Mizushima returned to direct!)
Tombow
The thought of having an FMA:B movie actually crossed my mind when others posted about the surprise announcement, but yes, this is more than I hoped for!! ^^
I'm desperately wanting to know more info on this!! biggrin.gif

<And yes, I opened a new thread and moved posts here, including mine. XD>
A Pierrot's Aria
I'll say first, Thank you Tombow, for translating the announcement! It's made my day! biggrin.gif

I'm wondering if it'll have something like the military needing the aid of Ed and Al's research? It'd be strange for it to be called FMA but with no alchemy...

And I hope that Roy shaves for this movie. biggrin.gif

Below @Penguintruth PMSL!
penguintruth
I hear it will involved Nazis, and lots of them!

Oh, they did Nazis already?

Hmm. Communists! Fullmetal Comrade: Conqueror of Drachma!

Wow, I wasn't expecting the "surprise" to be a movie. I though that would be a little too much to hope for. I wonder what it will be about.

Thanks, Tombow, for translating and opening a new thread. I was just about to ask for one! tongue.gif

Funny thing is when I saw the countries east of Xing on the map in episode 64, I just had that feeling there'd be a movie.

As for the plot, I hope it's not about Ed's kids or anything like that. Hopefully it picks up where Ed and Al left off in their journeys.

Any ideas for villains? Maybe some Xingese assassins try to kill Emperor Ling or something. Or better yet, a scheming Pride. smile.gif I dunno, as long as it's a better villain then what's-her-name from CoS!

XD at penguintruth

Besides Arakawa doing the storyline, I really have no hopes for it. XD Whatever they don't get in the extra and final episode will hopefully be in the movie. Or at least touched on.

And even a hint of Royai? That's all I ask. They don't need a proposal scene or date or whatever, just a nice quiet moment between the two of them, just the two of them. With words, of course. XD

I'm really not sure what kind of storyline this will have. Something on the Ice Alchemist maybe? Actually, why did BONES even put the Ice Alchemist in there? XD So it wsn't the same first episode again? -shifty eyes-

AND YES, PLEASE MAKE ROY SHAVE.
A Pierrot's Aria
Sorry if this is a silly question, but was there any release dates with/after that announcement? I bet it's ages away...;-; Nevertheless, it does make me feel a little less sad that the series has ended. I'm hoping they delve more into what Ed, Al, Roy and Riza (and others) all got up to; which makes me wonder whether or not Arakawa will help them with it since they're carrying on her story.

Ed never comes back, Winry dies. Their kids try to bring her back to life....

YESSS. More FMA! <3 in a movie format!

Most likely it will be something of Ed's and Al's journeys, maybe something from Ishbal too. That would be most logical, methinks.

(personally I'd love a little scene with edwin family life, even if it was only for like, 5 minutes. maybe at the end/beginning of the movie or something ^^! )

Ed and Al return from their travels, finally settling into family life. Eventually this begins to drain Edward's adventerous spirit, but the new government won't allow any more travel, as they are busy fighting several wars, thanks to Olivier poisoning Grumman's Viagra and Roy's "accident" with the new propane grills, thus taking over. Frustrated, all Edward can do is live a domestic life where he is marginalized, people even forgetting he saved the country. He eventually spends his days trying to find the right diet plan, like many old people past their prime.

Full Domesticated Nobody: Conqueror of Trans Fats

Starring Kevin Spacey.

Music by Simon & Garfunkle.

Starts Friday at a theater near you.
mellulah
You know what, I kinda hope for a prequel. About Father setting up his plan and the birth of the homunculi.
Either that or an Ishbal movie.
Chiyo
Dare I suggest it (but not particulaly wish it), Next Generation Fullmetal Alchemist? Only because...like others have said...we've pretty much rounded up Brotherhood. A movie just about their lives seems like a lot of effort for a simple "extra" so I am assuming there will need to be a new and exciting drama.

BUT WOW, GUYS!!! The worst part is that I caught the kanji for "Hagane no Renkinjutsushi," but then saw clips from anime I didn't recognize, so I turned off the stream, LOL!! XD I had no idea what I was seeing! I wish I had watched it a little closer now, but oh well! I knew I'd find out what the surprise was online soon enough.

Only problem is that my friend already went to sleep, so I have no one to spazz to until the morning! XD But boy, oh boy, will I have LOADS of people to spazz to in the morning, since I'm going to Funimation's special 10AM screening of the final episode of Brotherhood at Anime Expo! biggrin.gif Anyone else?!

I, too, might have fantasized about this, but didn't imagine they would ACTUALLY make another movie. The manga was pretty much wrapped up in almost every way. You know the world goes on in Amestris and elsewhere, but you don't get the hanging feeling Anime1 leaves you with, when you KNOW there has to be more.

This pleases me on so many levels! Superior animation in the Brotherhood style, new music, endless speculation on what plot and time period they'll set it in. Gah, I can hardly stand it! biggrin.gif

Edward and Alphonse go travelling in different directions, eventually meeting in the world of the first series, which now lacks an Ed and Al. It turns out the world has two halves where slightly different things happen. Edward is torn between Winry... and Winry!

I'm not too sure what to think. More FMA is great but when I try to imagine what it can be about I can't come up with any good ideas (as opposed by penguintruth whose Conquerrors of Drachma seems very promising... assuming it were a comedy)

Now let's wait for another announcement whether or not Arakawa-sensei will be involved... and let's wait for trailer to see if heavens had mercy and Roy SHAVED mad.gif That's an imperative!

I hated Shambala... I liked the general idea, the Plato's ideal of it, but something about i set me off. I liked Al and Ed were reunited, so in general that was a happy ending but... I don't know what didn't click. Ed talking to Hohenheim, probably, and Ed seeming to care about him (hated him in anime1)
Kasumisty
I so wanted this announcement to turn out to be a movie!

I would love to see the plot concentrate on Ed&Al journeys after the manga end, but I wouldn't mind some adaptations as well.

Just a small thought that came to my mind - is it confirmed that it would be an animated movie, yes?
A Pierrot's Aria

Divine said this on his blog: "* A movie version of the series was announced at the conclusion of this episode. My guess is that it’s going to be a condensed version of the same story."

'A move version of the series'. First of all, I don't know what he's referring to, if the actual announcement said this specifically, or if it's just his choice of words. I hope it's his choice of words (and if that's the case I find them misleading), otherwise it doesn't look to bright; this formulation would, to me at least, seem to imply that the latter part of his comment would be true.
A Pierrot's Aria
That would be absolutely ridiculous...not to mention completely pointless. They had to rush and omit some areas in Brotherhood, how the heck will they manage fitting it all in a movie?

And it's pointless...did I mention that? xD

It's probably a poor choice of words on his part! (I hope...;-; )

Yes, I saw that Devine referred this upcoming movie as a "compilation," and yes, that is a possibility also. (ETA: It seems since then Devine edited the original entry.) ^^ (btw, I love the site. ^^) Or, like Kasumisty said, it could be a live action. XD (Avatar anyone, xp)

The announcement shown at the end of the ep 64 says "theater version" and usually the word refers to "movie" and as far as I know, that does not necessarily mean "the original version converted to be shown in the [movie] theaters" (i.e. the same story,) although, as far as the word used in the Japanese ads, that is still a possibility as well. When FMA:CoS movie was originally announced, I vaguely remember some ads (in Japanese) using the same Japanese word "theater version" also, and we all know how it turned out. ^^ But, my memory could be wrong on this and I have no way of double checking it quickly, so please don't quote me on this. smile.gif
A Pierrot's Aria

I agree that it's utterly pointless, but they do this with some shows. They condense them, change some minor things around and add a new scene or two. But you're right, they would never be able to fit 64 episodes worth of content into a single movie. Ever. So I think we're safe ^^ The comment just had me a bit worried at first, but looking at it soberly, yeah, it seems unlikely.

EDIT: Right? sad.gif
Tennyo_night_elf
Crossing my fingers that its either about Al in Xing or Roy becoming Fuhrer. Ed's (no matter how much I would love to see more of him and his new family) story is pretty much over.

I seriously think they would not make a third animation that retells FMA, that would be way too redundant.

I feel I'm the only one hoping fror a live action. It could be so interesting!
It would have to be a european/american film due to the nationality of the characters and the settings.
If it turns out to be terrible you don't have to watch it again.

I have my doubts on the live-action possibility... I think it's more of a movie-adaptation. What I wonder now is whether it'll be an anime original (which I hope not) or whether it is the adaptation of something they rushed into (like the whole Ishval plot). We'll wait and see... guess it'll be a while till we have news on that. We'll have to keep an eye on the official website and on the magazines too.
A Pierrot's Aria
^Yeah, I was wondering if it could be concentrated on a certain time/adeventure during or before the series, that could be slotted somewhere into the story.

@Broken Chouchou Yeah...unfortunately it does happen...;_; The only major example I can think of is One Piece; they recreated 2 arcs in movie form. They just cut down and rushed the Alabasta arc for movie 8, and movie 9 was the Drum Arc "What if it happened like this..." But let's hope that there will be no recreations. happy.gif
Winry Chan
I'm kind of hoping for the movie to take place a few years in the future, beginning with:

--Ed leaving Winry in Resembool. He's reluctant to do so because she's been rather sick lately, but she points out that he's been waiting to go to Xing for a while and he shouldn't pass up this opportunity.
-- OP covers Ed's travel and flashbacks to Brotherhood (to catch those who haven't seen Brotherhood up)
--He meets up with Al in Xing and they in turn meet up with May (who has been teaching Al Alkahestry). But then - PLOT TWIST - the Emperor has been behind some truly nefarious deeds, including having LanFan killed.
--Ed, Al, and May don't believe it, and somehow sneak into the palace, where they meet up with LanFan. (Cue awesome music)
--It turns out she escaped from the person who was supposed to kill her, and she's been hiding in the shadows ever since. She also doesn't believe that Ling has committed the crimes everyone says he has, and she shows the group to the Emperor's chamber, where the four of them see an interesting scene play out. Ling is alone but he seems to be fighting with himself.
--The four burst in and they find that Ling is possessed by some spirit. The spirit in Ling's body tries to kill them, but the four manage to escape. (Bonus plot twist: May is left behind)
--PossessedLing orders their death, and the three of them + Xiao May (who May had told to escape) escape to a small village outside of main capital. It's May's hometown, and Al and Xiao May introduce everybody. They begin forming a plan to get rid of the spirit that's possessing Ling ("And rescue May, too!" Al says, with a close up of his determined eyes. Insert moment of cute by having Xiao May imitate his glare)
--PLOT HAPPENS
--Ling is still alone in his chamber. It's revealed that there was one soul in the Philosopher's Stone that he brought back to gain favor that managed to still retain itself and it managed to attach itself to Ling (insert flashback of how it happened here). The point of this scene is to show the viewer that Ling is upset that he's being possessed. (Understatement)
--Ed, Al, LanFan, and Xiao May sneak into the palace again. At one point they need to distract one of the guards, so Al uses alkahestry for the first time (outside of theory) without May present. Ed reminisces about alchemy. They continue to sneak.
--Xiao May suddenly becomes alert. The group approaches a corner and they hear a sound. It turns out it's May, who escaped PossessedLing's clutches and left a trail of unconscious guards behind her. (Cue obligatory AlxMay that's interrupted by Ed)
--The reunited group gets to the Emperor's chamber. They talk. PossessedLing is surprised LanFan is alive, while the real Ling smirks.
--FIGHT HAPPENS: Al uses both Alchemy and Alkahestry to distract Ling while LanFan and Ed team up and physically fight him.
--PossessedLing is defeated. But then - PLOT TWIST - something happens that is unexpected. ("Impossible!" Ed says, with a sweatdrop)
--Whatever the unexpected thing is, it somehow leaves the palace and Ling behind and starts to wreak havoc on the streets. The spirit that possessed Ling is now separated and set on achieving its goal (the usual "Gimme power!" mixed with "I need a host body!"). Meanwhile, Ling has come to his senses (cue obligatory LingxLanFan that's interrupted by Ed). The group runs to catch up with the spirit.
--The spirit has now absorbed several citizens and tried to make its own host body, but something went horribly wrong. FIGHT HAPPENS.
-- Insert Al complaining a little that he's getting tired from switching between Alchemy and Alkahestry. He sees Ed fighting with his own hands and takes it back.
--DEFEAT
--Everyone is happy and makes up.
--HAPPY RESOLUTION HAPPENS
--Ed, Al, and May leave LanFan and Ling in Xing while they go back to Resembool.
--The three meet up with Winry (worrying Ed because she still looks sick), who tells Ed that she's pregnant. Ed goes through a lot of shocked expressions and eventually settles on a happy biggrin.gif (cue obilgatory EdxWin that's interrupted by Al and May)
--Camera pans up to sky while the opening chords of ED starts.
--END

My guess it will be the final episode. It's a bit too early for a trailer or even teaser.
BirdieNumNum
I really hope the movie isn't a condensed version of the show. That would be totally pointless, not to mention impossible to cram 64 episodes worth of material in without cutting out so many things that made FMA such a great series to begin with. I'd rather see them come up with an original story, or expand on some area of the series that wasn't really gone into much detail with. I think a movie about the Ishval War would be awesome.

I'd also rather they didn't do a "The Next Generation" type thing. It's the original characters that I'm attached to and have an emotional investment in. As harsh as it sounds, I don't care about their offspring.

It's the final ep, Kale should be there to watch too later so, 99.9% it's ep. 64 subbed.

@BirdieNumNum: It's the Ishval war in detail that I'd love to see in movie version above anything else.
