I... really don't get why everyone is so upset about Paninya and Garfiel being in the picture. They're Winry's friends and, in a way, surrogate family.

They were only in two episodes of the anime (not counting episodes 60/61). It just seems sort of out of place for them to be there because they didn't seem to have as great an impact on the lives of the characters (from what we saw) as Izumi and Sig or maybe Gracia and Elicia. It takes away from the whole "family photo" aspect that made it so special by adding in two random characters that hardly played a prominent or important role in the main characters' lives.

I agree, it did dillute the "family photo" aspect of the picture, and it did water down the message that Mei was together with Al and now part it. I would go even further and say that the only person I could have accepted being added to that picture is Pinako, who actually -is- family.

@ Winry Chi... While I agree with practically all of your likes/dislikes, the only one I disagree with is the Winry hairstyle. I actually did like that Winry's hair did not resemble Trisha. As beautiful as the picture is in the manga, it was the hairstyle that kind of irked me. But that is my personal opinion... happy.gif;

^^ Neat that we share those opinions.
And I can understand why the style might irk you. I merely like it because it was one of the more blunt ways of showing a parallel between Trisha and Winry.

Unsure of:
-EdoWin proposal. It felt rushed.

How could it possibly have been done less quickly? I'm just curious, because generally things happen faster in animation than they do in manga. I think if it was any longer it would have dragged on a bit when it didn't need to be.

I understand that it would have felt dragged out if it's length was increased. I just mean the mannerism BONES had Ed and Winry take on whilst the scene was in action. As in, I felt that the manga panels were more or less, done more carefully. It felt more, shy and loving the way Ed hugged Winry, and her reactions in the manga, while Brotherhood gave it more of an awkward feeling, and thus sort of rushed.(Ex. when he kinda quickly pulls her into a hug, however I can see that it may have been intended to have been a quick instinct of him to do so, since this is the 'supposed' first time they have embraced in that manner.) Also, the shots of each of their faces shortly prior to the hug, sort of made the scene flow odd. I felt that focusing on their faces was not needed, being that it was the action and reactions of the two that made the event so extraordinary in the manga.

Does that make sense for an explanation? I could re-word it if that would help.

BONES should have spent more time animating this Ep rather than rushing through it. Seriously, it was the final ep, it deserved the very best, which sadly... I don't think it was the best it could have been.

I aggree to every words you've said especially the photo. WHATTHEHECK are those two doing in there????!??!?! seriously. if it's izumi & sig or gracia & elicia it would be better BUT WHY PANINYA AND GARFIEL???
and yeah, roystache, it's ruining everything -,-

I guess BONES felt to add them in because they did not gain much Screen Time? Perhaps to make a more noticeable change to the anime's version of the photo from the manga for a sense of (partially failed)originality. I honestly can agree that Izumi, Sig, Gracia, Elicia, and Pinako, should have been included IF BONES was wanting to do an "main family portrait." In the manga I felt that the family photo was purely "primary relations." not 'hey everyone jump in to ruin any significance of Mei being included!' Hah....
Chiyo
Winry Chi - I have merged your three posts in to one. Remember you can "edit" your post if you want to add a thought. I have also reduced the amount of text you have quoted.
Seeker of Truth
P&G are in their own separate photo in the manga version, I suspect Bones "ran" out of time and just merged them into the "main" photo unless the above prediction about them being more important for the movie holds out. I want to know why there was a lack of Rose in the end pics!!!! Yes, I know it was that way in the manga too. tongue.gif
RoyxRizaFan
Thoughts:

- I really liked the fact that Maria had lines, and that Roy's subordinates (including Riza) were in the hosptial room. It was kind of strange that the Ishbal thing wasn't suggested by Marcoh and that Roy was still talking as if he was going to be Fuhrer even as he was blind, but it didn't bother me at all. I really liked what was added to that scene, especially the phone call to Havoc. It seemed like something Roy would do - insisting that Havoc use the stone first - especially after their argument in the hopsital right after Havoc was paralyzed.

- I didn't mind that the Xing scene was moved, though I missed Ling carrying Mei off XD Otherwise it was fine.

- I really liked the proposal scene, too. So cute!! I strongly, strongly preferred that Winry's hair didn't suggest an Oedipus complex, and their son seemed a little less creepy. Did NOT like that Garfiel and Paninya were thrown in there.

And I think this sums up how I feel about Colonel Mustache:

Anyhow, Brotherhood was overall a pretty good adaption, and in the end I'm glad it was done. The first few months were a little rough, but it really picked up and became something I truly enjoyed, and began to look forward to with each passing week. Nothing will compare to the actual manga, but Brotherhood came pretty damn close. I think I may actually recommend it to all my illiterate friends who find it impossible to read a story rather than watch it...

MsLinn
Loved that the "title card" was the map. Seems fitting as the brothers are going on adventure.
The sight of blind Roy was upsetting somehow. He's not my favorite character, but still. I felt slightly alarmed or uncomfortable.
But then...He was very cute, sitting in his hospital-clothes, trying to solve all the problems head on and stubbornly. Anyway, that whole scene was awesome.
*squea!!!* *cough!* Al! He looks older than the manga. biggrin.gif Voice a little spiffy, but I still love it, so I can't really hate it...
;_; Ling and Mei and all, and goodbye, it was beautiful. It had Brofistbump, yeah! It was dragged out and more emotional, but that's the way I like it! wink.gif I like to think that Fu's last words to Ling "Be a just king" (or something), had a great impact.
Do I spot...an applepie!?
Where's the hug!? Where is it! Don't go away! I want it! Where is it? Darm it where is it? (I was really afraid for a moment there. I thought the first door she opened was to the outside, and then it cut to the photos...) So, automail mechanics can fly?
It was beautiful. The eyecatch, too.
YES BOX! They're the same height! That's what I wanted! biggrin.gif
I almost squead irl when Selim waved good bye.
Holy Cow, why is he so da*n handsome?! And milk, lol! And so incredibly CUTE! AL! I love how he was animated in the café! crybaby.gif So handsome.
OMG, I love that paniced look Ed got when the train came!! Loved the blushes, and randomly Winry's hands when she starts to take back what she said! Whatever you deside what it was, it was perfect.
Photo-collage: Then the tears came...FALMAN IS HAVING KIDS?!? WITH WHO?!! (And HavocxRebecc yes plz.)
;_; Fin

And yes Paca, I agree, Riza cut her hair for a simple reason.
Hakkari, You are totally right. No doubt in my mind that's Shieska's children!
Mhacy
So we reach the END, I cried while watching it. I can't help it, this was the last episode FMA (I don't know about the movie that time)
Everything was like in the manga, but the thing is they keep using the same music again and again, it doesn't matter anyway. The content was more important^^
The animation was nicely done and Yes, Al do looks cute in the café and it made me laugh when he ordered milk xP, In that age, he still drinks milk, no wonder he grow taller than Ed xD
And the blushes of Ed made me wanna squeeze, I like what BONES did in that scene. Blushing Ed is just awesome. I also love his laughs. Jeez, I'll gonna miss that laugh, and his voice.
The younger Selim was just too shota, he looks terribly cute xP
The pictures on the end were nicely drawn especially Winry, I like her ace in the family photo. The Royai one and Roy's mustache haha.
Overall: It was just EPIC!.

Hey guys! First post, sorry, I was so busy, I JUST caught up and finished the series tonight.. this seems like an awesome forum btw... lot more mature than my Naruto forum, ugh! Wish I had come here sooner.

I loved this whole last series of eps... superbly done emotional moments, great action, great art/animation, and great ending... takes a lot for me to say great for all these things, but except for a few minor details, this was one of the best endings overall for any anime I have watched... some scenes approached those of "Hikaru no Go" and "Evangelion" which is a huge compliment on my part. This whole series (from part 1) had some cheesy eps, but man, did it really pick up in the last 10 or so.

Some of these points may be from 1 or 2 eps ago, and apologies for that, but this is my one and only change to contribute!

- I was impressed at the detail of "Father's" soul getting taken by the real "God." I am not used to seeing and did not expect all that... it seems the whole storyline was VERY well thought out and no detail was left unattended

- If that werent good enough, then they USE that and bring ED down there and he does the anti-Father response, and BAM, he gets what he wants, superb1 Although to me it was predictable, but in the perfect way.

- The end exchange between Winry and Ed was so well done, I cant compliment that enough... funny, emotional, sweet all perfectly wrapped up in one, gezuz... truly awesome... who writes this stuff??? (No seriously, who does? LOL, I dont pay attention but this really really impressed me; makes me wanna hire him/them!)

- One disappointment was how "Father" kept taking all the blows in such arrogant fashion thinking how he was invincible, while most of the other guys knew the attacks were "wasting" his souls... Father seemed so smart, how is he so stupid when it counted the most? could he not feel his souls/power diminishing? If he went on a counterattack quickly, he could have wiped out everyone in Central and saved enough to continue as God.... weird.

- Why doesnt Alphonse have his alchemy powers? Am I missing something?

- Why did Hohenheim die? He didnt give up his stone, and I didnt see anything in the fight that was a fatal blow... I guess he coulda died from the injuries, but I thought his death was a bit, ummmm, random, although the moment/setting he died in was appropriate.

- I dont understand why Havoc needs a stone more than Mustang.... I must have forgotten something about Havoc? Was he the one that lost an arm or something in the fight against Lust?

- Am I the only one that thinks Lady Armstrong is the sexiest girl in anime? Get me a girl like that!!!!!!!

- Doesnt May look like she is 7 yrs old? Haha and Alfonse is going to be with her... good ol' Japanese romance... imagine if u did that in an america PG rated show/movie.

- What is up with Selim? First he turns into a 1 inch long baby... and now he is normal? Or still a homon? And does the wifey know the truths now about Selim? Seems like she was kept in the dark about the fuhrer. Poor lady.

- Great closing monologue!

Ok, feel much better now, phew! LOL

1 - There's some speculation on that one. Most say it's simply becaause he used up all his souls and died of old age, aka however old he was caught up with him in one moment.

2 - This just shows that Mustang cares more for his men than he does himself. It's all about how he talks about protecting the people under him, and this is an example of that protection... in a more of a helping way than protecting.

ME THOUGHTS!!!!!
Keep in mind that my experience was slightly ruined because my brother wouldn't shut up while I was watching it, XD.

I pretty much loved the whole thing. When they showed Ling and Mei and Lan Fan and she said he was too greedy, I laughed. Greed and Ling were very similar(same primary ambitions) from the beginning anyways, so I doubt anything from Greed rubbed off on him. And the meer mention of Greed made me go, D:, *sadness*, 'cause he's awesomus.. and gone...

Lulz, I loved Ed's way of proposing. Stupid boys think they can solve/explain anything with Alchemy, XD.

When Winry's coming down the hall and out the door, I was thinkin', "Hurry up already, woman! They be waitin'!"

I can't thinkof anything else right now... But Xing looked very interesting, biggrin.gif.

LOL The Cow-sama writes it all. Hiromu Arakawa, she's the author of the original manga.

(and if you're wondering about the cow thing the author depicts herself as a cow because she grew up on a dairy farm)

I must say, I was impressed by the last two episodes. I mean every word, I loved those episodes. Even if the series itself never got to me that much, those last two episodes made up for everything that was wrong in my opinion.

There was a great mix of anime and manga. The scene settings were from teh manga but the added dialogues really made the end of hte story deeper. The last chapter of manga seemed to lack some emotional depth and that void was filled by these episodes. Loved the settings of Rain and Ray of Light although I would have loved to see the latter as the ending song for the whole anime.

The scene with Mustang and his men really touched me. Breda and co had been pretty much forgotten during the final battle so I was pleased to see Mustang interacting with his men. I was beginnng to think that Hawkeye was the only one that mattered to him. And yes, I did a happy dance on that small bit of Havoc we got. A it is always better than nothing.

It feels weird to hear Rie as the voice of hman Alphonse. I don't know whether it's because of hte near corpse body but the voice didn't suit him. It all seemed.. off. Well, I have always preffered the armor form to Al's true form, as I did with The Beast. Call me crazy but it's true dry.gif

EdWin was sweet, not too sweet but the right amount of it. Though teh scene was almost completely from the manga, if I remember right, it got me. The art style was gorgeous and the voice acting was great. Edward's last thoughts on teh train made me teary-eyed. I realised this would be the last time I hear Romi Park as Edward Elric (unless I go and watch the episodes I've missed). Goodbye, Romi, how can anyone replace you?

The pictures in the end were great, it reminded me of the ending of the first anime. Though it did leave some questions: Did Falman have children? Are Al and Mei canon? Did Ling And Ran Fan hit it off? Whta about Roy and Riza? And Havoc and Rebecca? (I forgot, yeah! Havoc can walk! biggrin.gif ) Why couldn't one of Edward's children have brown hair? And most of all, did Edward draw the moustache on Mustang?

Music was amazing. The piece called during many scenes until Winry opens the door was amazing though I have no idea what it is called. Trisha's lullaby broke me, I thought that picture was the end place. Why would I think that? I read the manga. Still, I wonder why Hologram was the ending song? In my opinion, it was the weakest of all the themes. Maybe Bones wanted to give it some reputation. Or maybe the lyrics fitted the ending: "I'm going to the world I haven't seen yet."

im_juice_lee
I have one quick question about the ending.

Question: Dr. Marcoh says he can help Mustang regain his vision with the philosopher's stone. However, from something Honeheim said earlier, isn't that impossible?

In Part 4 of FMA Brotherhood, somewhere around episode 40-ish. Hohehnheim sees Izumi and sticks his hand in her stomach to rearrange her organs and help her breathing. I remember Hohenheim saying something like, "I can't give you back your organs because they are a testament to your sins," or something along those lines. And Hohenheim has the power of (or rather, he is a) philosopher's stone. So, if Hoheneheim couldn't restore what Izumi lost for performing human transmutation, how would the philosopher's stone help restore what Mustang lost for performing transmutation?

Maybe Hohenheim had the power to restore Izumi's organs, but just didn't want to do that. If that's the case, it seems a bit out of character for Hohenheim.
Mustang is my favorite character, so I truly hope that he does get his vision back, but that part of the ending just doesn't feel right for me. Maybe I'm missing something.

Father did attack back a bit. He was trying most of the time to get more souls to make more philosopher stones, but kept on being attacked. He tried to eat greed, attacked the soldiers with guns, attacked mustang, and did the super explosion thing. But I would agree that he was a kind of disappointing opponent compared to the other amazing battles.

I don't remember the show ever saying Al didn't have alchemy? I know for sure Ed didn't (his failed clap on the roof). I'm pretty sure Al still does which is why he's headed to Xing to study Alkahistory.

I think Hohenheim just used up all the energy from the souls in his stone. Father already reclaimed a chunk of them. Then he used lot's of energy during the fight. Afterwards when he's talking with Major Armstrong, you see his skin "degrading." So, I guess it's implied that he's running out of energy and is dying.

Havoc was the guy who was half paralyzed (waste down) after the Lust fight. And like someone else said, it's because Mustang cares about his men. I remember in one episode, Mustang said something like "I'm leaving you behind for now, so you can catch up later" and Hawkeye added in something like "Mustang never abandons his subordinates". Or something like that.

Lol @ General Armstrong. I never thought that, but ok XD... I think alot of people really liked General Armstrong from what I've seen in other forums. My sister who watched Brotherhood thought Armstrong was the coolest girl character ever in anime. But, I never felt positively or negatively about Armstrong; for me, she was just kinda there. And I never once thought that she was hawt XD!

Yeah.. May is definitely less than 10. Al is 14 at the end? That's kind awk. Yeah, I agree it's weird. But Al never said that he liked her (romantically) directly.

About the Selim being a ridiculously small Baby, there's a funny Omake about that. It first makes a comment on how fast Selim has grown. Then, it shows Fuhrer's wife with Selim 5 years later and Selim is a giant.

Well... I don't agree with you. She seems to be a child of 11 years old.

In the begining of the series:
- Al is 14 years old
- May is 11 years old

During the promise day:
- Al is 15 years old
- May is 12 years old

When Al want traveler to Xing:
- Al is 17 years old
- May is 14 years old

In the last photo ("The new family"):
- Al is, at least, 19 years old, because Ed and Winry have 2 babies.
- Therefore, May is, at least, 16 years old.

So, I don't understand why you said that (sorry if my english is limited. I'm Portuguese). Al only have more 3 years than May. In addition, she grows in the last picture, getting the same height that Winry.

OK, here's my all-blackened speculation/reply:

I agree that Mustang shouldn't be able to get his eyesight back by being healed by a Ph. stone, and for the same reason -- it doesn't seem like Ph. stones can reverse/repair what Truth takes. It could be used to heal Havoc, though.

One thing I've seen proposed is that Mustang go through the Gate, and trade some of a Ph. stone for his eyesight back. I don't like that, because it isn't a sacrifice on Mustang's part. (I'm OK with Envy's sacrifice of some of his Ph. stone to pay for all the passages through the Gate out of Gluttony's stomach, because Envy is nearly entirely made up of Ph. stones and dies if he loses them all, so for him it was an actual sacrifice).

I like to think that Alkahestry healing + action-at-a-distance was used to swap one of his eyes with one of Riza's.

...
Yeah.. May is definitely less than 10. Al is 14 at the end? That's kind awk. Yeah, I agree it's weird. But Al never said that he liked her (romantically) directly.

The Al/May romance has an extenuating circumstance; remember that Al's body was bound to the armor when he was ten, and he's got no hormonal system to go through puberty, so emotionally and sexually he's still ten years old until he gets his body back.

Hey, I'm sorry to post this here because I'm not supposed to but this is the most active discussion on the website. I have a few questions.
1. Is there a website with regularly updated news for the series like Kanzenshuu.com for Dragon Ball?
2. Did the author ever in some capacity or other mention that she might some day write new material or have something produced as anime?
3. Where is it possible to read all the author's interviews in English?
4. Where can I find an English translation of the Chronicles guidebook?
5. Is there any difference between Brotherhood and the manga? I love the series a lot but if there is no difference I would much rather rewatch the anime than read the manga.
Thank you very much

There are a few differences between the manga and Brotherhood, mainly the addition of the episode with Isaac McDougal and a recap episode, while the Youswell and train hijacking parts of the storyline were omitted because they were already covered in the first anime. The Youswell incident is shown as a flashback later on, though. A few relatively unimportant scenes from the manga were altered and/or omitted from Brotherhood. Other than that, there are no significant differences between Brotherhood and the manga. I don't know about the other questions though.

1. The only places that keep up with any updated news are here and maybe some LiveJournal groups like FMA herald, to be honest. That being said, there really isn't any updated news for FMA and if there is it's very few and far between. The series has ended and the movie came out quite a while ago, and the last unabridged edition of the manga came out in September. There just isn't anything new going on with FMA now, really. If there is something new, however, it's usually posted on this website.

2. Hiromu Arakawa is currently working on her manga, entitled Silver Spoon. You can check out our Silver Spoon subforum for more info on that.

3. I personally don't know if there are any translations online, but if I remember correctly, there are interviews in the first two artbooks which were released in English. (I can't remember if it was just in one or both of them, though).

4. I don't think anyone has translated it, unfortunately. As awesome as it would be, it's a pretty hefty book and would probably take quite a while to translate.

5. It's already been explained by another member, but I'd recommend both reading the manga and watching the anime. They're both great!
Abdulkareem Sheraif
Thank you very much for your help. I really appreciate it. Does anyone know if Arakawa ever said that she might continue Fullmetal Alchemist. I read somewhere that maybe in the future she might write a short about Mustang becoming Fuhrer, is this true?

No worries!

Yeah, she did say at some point that if she were to ever write a spinoff of FMA, it would be about Mustang and his team. (I think that was it. xD)
Abdulkareem Sheraif
Do you have any idea when she said that? And did she ever specify when? Also was the OVA reflections ever released in Japan or anywhere else as a home video? Is there anywhere I can watch it?

Also does Arakawa have an official website or regularly updated fan sites? Are there any petitions or something going on I should know about? I am very sorry for the many posts and thank you all for your help.

Do you have any idea when she said that? And did she ever specify when? Also was the OVA reflections ever released in Japan or anywhere else as a home video? Is there anywhere I can watch it?...

I think that was sometime after the last chapter was released? (not sure though, it was while ago xd) And, no that was if she were to make gaiden, and she did not go any further with that. I remember watching OVA reflection on you-tube, but that was long time ago, and I don't know where we can watch it now. Hopefully some of us can find it again. smile.gif

Thank you very much for your help. I hope she one day does decide to continue though!

You're very welcome, Abdulkareem Sheraif. I hope someday she will change her mind and decided to write FMA gaiden, too. smile.gif

Does anyone know where I can find the complete plot and story of the many video games (including those released only in Japan)?
Thank you

Not sure this may help, but we had some discussions on FMA games as they were released. You can read these discussions on discussion threads for these games. But, I don't think we compiled story-lines for all the FMA games.

That is helpful. Thank you

I just finished watching both series and movies so I am finally free to read the forum and post without fear of being spoiled! So while this is a late response and the original posters may not be around to read it anymore, I can’t help but give my two cents here.

Question: Dr. Marcoh says he can help Mustang regain his vision with the philosopher's stone. However, from something Honeheim said earlier, isn't that impossible?

Well here my understanding comes from something I thought when I first saw the scene with Izumi – before I knew what would happen later. It did not seem to me he was saying he cannot do it because of ability – actually it was clearly implied earlier in the series that philosopher’s stones can heal – I think he was unwilling to do it because of principle – the same kind of principle that pushes Ed and Al to refuse to use the stone to get their bodies back once they find out how the stones are made. He just does not want to counter-act the “punishment for a sin” that the Truth inflicts on people.
I remember thinking it was ambiguous at the time and later events seem to go in the direction of “unwilling, not unable”. I mean after Al “dies” to get Ed his arm back, Hohenheim clearly offers them to use his stone/life to bring Al back – even though Al lost his body as a price for human transmutation in the first place. So that would be an even more egregious contradiction than Marcoh’s repairing Mustang’s sight. Clearly if he offers, it means the stone CAN do it. He just did not want to do it at the time he met Izumi.
So if there is a contradiction, that’s in the change of Hohenheim’s attitude (since Marcoh never said he could not do it) and that can be explained in many ways: many things have happened in between that may make Hohenheim willing to drop those principles. On top of it, by using his stone, he would be sacrificing his own life to bring his son back so technically he would fit within the equivalent exchange principle still – stone or no stone. So he may not even have dropped that principle. He is still acting within those parameters.
So the stone CAN do it. I think the issue was Hohenheim’s sentence being ambiguous when he talked to Izumi (maybe intentionally so that she wouldn’t ask him to do it if he can?) rather than a contradiction.

Why did Hohenheim die?

They don’t explain what the trigger for his death is but clearly it is explained why he is at the end of his rope by the time he does die. If you remember, to create the circle of transmutation that he uses to give Amestrians their souls back, he took the stones inside of himself to plant around the country. So by the time he reaches the final battle, he has already given up much of the source of his immortality. Then when he is protecting Al and Ed underground from one of Father’s attacks he does mention his abilities/stones are slowly getting drained by the battle. And finally by the time of the incident I mentioned earlier, where he offers his “final stone” to bring Al back, he does clearly say he has only one stone aka one life left in him before he becomes back the original normal human he was before all of this – aka one that should have been dead a long time ago. A bit like the homunculi, he has a set number of times where he can use the stone aka die but because he had so many in him, that’s what made him immortal.
So we are to believe either he was gravely wounded and his last stone could not protect him but that would be kind of against the canon, or more ambiguously that after saving his children and understanding the meaning of his life, he decided to let himself die in peace – a bit like Envy did but without the ripping the stone out part. It is indeed not clear how it is possible within the mythology of the anime/manga but at least we knew that he was not quite immortal anymore by the time it happens. And the fact he ages clearly means that he did indeed go back to his human form.

My main problem with the finale of the series – and admittedly it is a rather minor one – is this.
I get that most fans were more interested in the Ed/Winry stuff, the what happened to Al or Mustang and his men stuff. I too wanted to know and the finale was emotionally satisfying on that count.
But my personal favorite part of the show – especially during the final 30 episodes – has always been the plotting, military power struggle, coup/counter-coup storylines. And after spending so much time detailing the alliance, power shifts, play-by-play military maneuvers, I was surprised the show spent so little time in the last episode telling us what happened to the country after Father’s defeat.
More crucially, I wish they had explained to us how and why Grunman became the Fuhrer-President. Considering the last we had seen of him, he was seen planning to double-cross two fan favorites, Mustang and Armstrong, knowing he became Daisoto is not very emotionally satisfying. So, while it is not out of the blue because he was a clear possibility, it would have been nice to explain it to us.
Because it does not make sense that Mustang – and more crucially Armstrong - did not get the throne.
I understand that the show is hinting that Mustang – a new more mature Mustang – decided to first make amends by helping rebuild Ishbal as General for the East. But wasn’t that always the plan – to become Fuhrer-President so he could atone for his behavior in Ishbal? So why would he settle for simple General when he could accomplish the same and more as King?
But at least they took the time to at least hint at that. There is zero reason Armstrong did not try to become Daisoto herself. First of all, we know she wanted it badly – so badly she was ready to get herself super close to Bradley and Father at the risk of losing her principles so that she could be near power when they fell. We also know she does not give up – she fights, that’s what her character is about. And crucially, from a military point of view, she was in control by the time Father dies. Central and Central Command are in the hands of the Briggs soldiers loyal to her (notice not a blue uniform in the final battle scenes and presumably many of the remaining rank-and-file normal soldiers die when Father blows the building). Mustang is incapacitated and Grunman is still in the East. There is no reason she would not have seized power at that point. That was her goal all along!
So it would have been nice to have a scene – even a short scene – where Grunman pleads to a military council he should become Fuhrer-President because Mustang is now physically unable to do it (since he is still blind at that point) and Armstrong is disqualified, say for instance because she is unpopular (because of Breda’s backstabbing radio broadcast blaming her for the events of the coup) and as an old wise man he can stabilize the country etc.
It would have been intellectually satisfying for those of us who cared about that storyline and would have wrapped it up less lackadaisically than a throwaway sentence in a conversation
