Summary: Briggs soldiers escort Winry back home, where she is surprised to find Ed and his group. Though Ed warns her to escape to another country, she refuses and says that Ed should just make sure he protects everyone. Meanwhile, Scar has recruited several Ishbalans to help in his cause, and Roy informs Olivier about Selim's true identity. Al, who had been suffering from more frequent blackouts, is ambushed and captured by Gluttony and Pride. On the day before the Promised Day, Bradley is tricked into taking a train back to Central and is caught in an explosion on the bridge. Meanwhile, Riza, Breda, and Fuery prepare for the upcoming day. Within the military, as the "chosen" generals are panicking over Bradley's possible death, Olivier sees her chance to try and take control. However, before she can do anything, she is halted by the sudden appearance of Father and Sloth. - Wikipedia

That was hard to watch because of lag and the tsunami warning covering half the screen, but that was some awesome new Arabian-style music they played on the preview.

The train explosion was disappointing. Afaik, there was no explosion shown. And of course, they cut Mustang's war buddies conversation, no surprise. Wonder what that Miles/Al scene was about.
Michiyo-
- That map of Japan during the whole episode was annoying. And Keyhole was lagging.
- Winry is home. Ed is home too. But they left the scene where he beat up Ed because he was in her room.
- I see some scene changes. For example that dinner scene wasn’t in the manga.
- Ed is taller than Winry now.
- Scar and Marcoh came back. And the Ishbalans are here too with their secret plan.
- Al is in trouble. Pride and Gluttony got him.
- Olivier doesn’t like hyacinths.
- Bye-bye Bradley. We won’t see you for a while.
- Loved the ending with the Mustang-tachi. smile.gif
- Oh, and nice cliffhanger with Father.
- New music in the preview!
Levive
- aw, a recap? that's something new.
- ahahahah, Winry's ultimate transport.
- don't tell me we're getting that scene...
- yes, we GOT that!
- the music made the encounter awesome.
- Heck, It was awesome overall.
- Didn't they all look kind of grown-up?
- Oh, the goodbye scene was aww...
- Winry, I'll miss you! Just get out of this alive...
- Ishvalans!
- Oh, my favourite music from Brotherhood.
- Gluttony! We haven't seen you for a while.
- And Pride, as creepy as ever.
- Cool Winry eyecatch.
- And the first Wrath eyecatch ever, right? It's weird we didn't see that one earlier.
- The train scene? Already?
- I didn't like it. No impact on me.
- The ending song made Grumman's laugh somehow creepy...
- RIZA! It's gonna start very soon...
- My antenna detects new music?

I thought this episode would be really boring, but now I'm impressed. I really enjoyed it!

So, next week's Ran Fan's return? I hope so, I really miss her and her seiyuu.
penguintruth
My initial thoughts:

- Damn Keyhole. Is Japan having a storm?
- I haven't heard this tune since... Nina ;_;
- Greed's speech on Greed is awesome
- Gluttony! Been a long time.
- Aha! I knew they'd end this episode right with Father's appearance in the conference room.
- New music in the next ep preview!

It's hard to tell whether or not it was such a good episode since a map of Japan obscured the picture most of the time.

Oh Michiyo, you always get these to us quick as a flash.

CT based in screencaps

-everyone is looking good again.
- very glad they kept all that EdxWin, but doesn't look as if it dominates the episode. Well I know it can't otherwise penguintruth would have ranted about it wink.gif
deet-tastic
I understand the importance of the map.. but on the whole screen? I mean really? Couldn't they just put a news feed at the bottom? Not to mention a horrible key hole. I didn't see much, i gotta wait for RAW's now. Thanks for the screenshots michiyo
Can't believe how much older Ed looks. And Pride. Ohhh that creepy adorable boy.

Looked more like EdxJapan with that map on the screen.
Levive
^ that, epic win : DDD
Well, they will air this episode again, won't they? Besides it should be available by Wednesday on FMAB Channel on YouTube. I just hope we'll get a raw version sooner or later.
Kale Mustang
Despite the map taking up half the screen for the entire episode, I still really enjoyed it. They kept a lot of stuff, which was good, though it kinda sucked that though they showed Mustang's subordinates from Ishval, as to those who never read the manga will never know the significance of them since their part was cut.

Guess I'll have to wait for Thursday to watch a hopefully clean version of this ep. on Funimation's site.

lmao!! it really did look like that on the screencaps I saw.
Looks like a good episode, except that the map on the screen looks really annoying. Looks like I'll have to wait and watch the Funimation subbed one. I'm hoping they can clean that off.
edxwinryfan
I hope the map of Japan isn't too annoying, I want to watch the raw just to see the EdxWinry scenes smile.gif They look pretty good but was the "Bake me an apple pie and keep it warm" scene included?
SneakyRuler
@edxwinryfan It was there tongue.gif

- All of the Ed/ Winry scenes were great, including the chimera and Greed.
- The animation was perfect, Yoki labouring in Lior smile.gif
- Mustang complimenting Olivier
- Grumman as amazing as ever and Gluttony!
- I love Selim talking in Pride's voice

I hope there's gonna pop out a raw without map of Japan because here it is worth watching and there's a lot to look at.
A Pierrot's Aria
I watched the raw earlier.

It's a shame about the map but it could have been worse. : ) I remember when I wanted to watch a RAW of another anime (forgot what it was now!) but the whole show was taken off air to broadcast the earthquake alert. Better a map then no show at all. =P

I really liked the look of everyone! Ed looks great and so does Winry. I'm glad they didn't do the stripping scene too over the top and I'm also happy that they didn't put in the part where she smacks Ed with the spanner afterwards. Too many Ed-getting-smacked-by-spanner scenes in one episode gets kind of annoying. So I think the way they handled that was great. : )

I also loved the way the scene with Pride taking over Al was animated. It looked brilliant.

Broken Chouchou
I thought the map would be a lot worse. That's not so bad.

It was worse if you were watching the episode live through the Keyhole stream, but not if you saw it live on tv.

Jraw.net has the episode without the map on the side. I'm loading it up right now. smile.gif
Kasumisty
@up Thank you very much!

I'm worried about the events of Chile and Japan, but the map, which was almost at the center of the screen was very annoying. I found the episode nice, though. The animation was very cool, Ed looked nicely masculine and Winry so grown up. My favorite screenshot:

Ed: Wuut?
Anomia Grey
I can't believe it's been only a year since the start of the series - surely not even teenagers grow so much? Ed looks at least 17. On a different note, his hair looks longer than Winry's smile.gif)

I don't speak Japanese, but it seems they pulled another classical

Love interest: 'OH PROTAGONIST I LO-'
*insert random interruption*
Protagonist: 'Yeah g2g kthnx buhbye!!!'

A Pierrot's Aria
Looking back at it again (watched the RAW without the map) I could see things a lot better. : )

I loved Pride's malice grin, and I loved the bit with Roy and Olivier. Also, I touched upon it before, but like how they drew out the EdxWin with out making it too over the top. I couldn't help myself and took the screenshot I now have as my avatar. xD

And Ed's hair looks much shorter than it did last episode. xD
wagonista
I've heard a lot of complaining about no new music... Sounded like a new track in the preview.

Much more than a year has passed by the show's timeline. There are lots of points where it skips multiple uneventful months. Especially in the beginning, there part where they're researching Marco's notes is supposed to take around two months, as I recall.
beastPlushi
I finished watching the raw earlier today. *squee* I'm feeling the epicness about to boil over.... *cough*
I couldn't help but make this out of screencaps I took:

(yes, I'm jaPoshi, some of you know this, so those that don't, don't call me a thief, thx.)

This took me longer to make than I'd like to admit. *sigh*
I would've made one out of the Winry fan-service... but.... I think Ed would've killed me.
edxwinryfan
I just watched the raw for the EdxWinry scenes smile.gif They are pretty good even though I don't know what they are saying tongue.gif I wish that they would have said "I love you" to each other or they also could have hugged since this is the last time they see each other wub.gif Winry better not be dead after chapter 104!!!. Goodbye Winry I'll miss you A LOT!! She won't be seen for at least another 15 episodes!! sad.gif :'(

Mr. Deathy
I can't say much about this ep as I was skimming through it (not going to enjoy it much with the map) but I have to say the end of the ep shows that Father's voice will never, ever grow on me. The whole scene with him showing up behind Oliver is creepy but the second you see him talking it just totally takes away from it and ruins it. I can't believe they cast that guy as the main villain.
EveningAlchemist
Holy crap did that music make the EdWin scene hilarious! This episode oozed EdWin, and I think I actually enjoyed it. Actually I loved it. They look so grown up and beautiful. *sniffle* Can't wait for a conclusion to the romantic tension! (Actually what I can't wait for is Kit-chan to do the capsummary!)

And I just realized this... Yoki's actually a funny guy. That's all.

Al's capture scene was epic of course. Pride and Gluttony make a really good tag team! They have the best combinations of cuteness and utter horror...

I love the Roy and Olivier team too, but I support Royai all the way! Roy and Olivier are just so funny together! And totally not plotting.

Funny how General Hakuro doesn't make an appearance in the beginning of the series, but when he does show himself, he still ends up dealing with a train! And then it blows up. He has really bad luck with trains.

ED with Riza and the crew left me pumped up for the next ep! Roy fading out was great too!

Let me just say this: I really hope Japan doesn't get devastated by a terrible tsunami.
Billea_the_Turtle
-the map of Japan was annoying, but it could've been worse
-this episode is chock full of EdWin. At least I enjoyed the scene; it was done well.
-they left the "bake me an apple pie and keep it warm" in
-eh the scene with Bradley's train blowing up could have been done a little better me thinks
-Pride and Gluttony make a cool team. they have the perfect combination of cuteness and creepiness
-Al's capture was epic, just as I thought it would be.
-Olivier and Roy are sooo not plotting together
-liked the scene with Riza and the rest of the Mustang gang
-I knew they were going to end this episode with Father and Sloth appearing in Central command

Ooh next episode: the fight with Pride and Gluttony with (hopefully) Ran Fan's return. I miss her...
Vlyse
I didn't even notice the map watching it this time. Totally forgot it was even there, but I was also in my mood where I just look at subtitles instead of reading them.

Good to see Gluttony back if only for 2 more episodes. Pride looked great, but his animations continue to be weird. It looked like his shadows were boiling up his eyes like eggs..or something.

Hate to see all the familiar faces from the manga be nobodies at the end. (Hakuro, Ishval war buddies, etc.) And the train could have blown up better, too. Grumman's expression with the fan and the ED starting then were awesome, though.

I want to hear that new track in the preview next episode. Speaking of upcoming episodes, I wonder how they're gonna draw out all the action over 3 episodes.
Prisoner747
Good episode, lots of EdWin if that's your thing.

However... it would be nice to see, oh I dunno... Maybe a bit of Alchemy every now and then? Brotherhood's alchemy is sparse to say the least...
shanryelric
love this episode!!! love the edwin scenes. love love love. and i loveee how they made ed and winry look older, somewhat 17. ed looks so mature, and so hansome *.* and how come his hair grew a lot longer than winry's hair? wow.
Broken Chouchou
Found a map-free subbed version.

The episode was okay, for some reason though I didn't feel all too engrossed. Most events just passed by, without me caring too much. For starters, everything happened pretty fast. No impact. The train incident was a bit lame, but as I recall it, it wasn't anything that special in the manga, either, so I guess it's forgivable. Pride's capture of Al was nice, though. So was the fill of EdxWin early on, too.
The new music in the preview sounded pretty decent, but it feels a bit out of place, doesn't go very well with any themes or characters involved (it sounded much too mid-eastern to 'accompany' the Xingese character(s?) imo, if that was the point).
Jealous Rogo
Okay first off I'm gonna say that while the map was an annoyance to all of us not living in Japan, from what I understand it was there to warn people of areas that could get hit by a tsunami so I'm not gonna whine about it. Human life is more important than FullMetal Alchemist. Just barely mind you but still. I will say that I thought it was completely unecessary to have it flashing throughout, cause it meant your eyes were drawn to it out of pure instinct (human eyes are attracted instantly to movement) So anytime things were a bit talky, my eyes went straight to the map and away from the subs. But like I said, they weren't exactly concerned with that.

Episode wise... well it was a good episode. What stood out to me most is that they've changed Pride's voice slightly. I don't THINK I've seen anyone mention this but apologies if you have. Basically all they did was take out the distortian effect they put on Pride in his first appearance, which is incidentally the last time we saw his body talk. I'm guessing the distortian will be back for a bit during the next episode and he'll only talk like he did this week, when he's using his container to talk. That being said the voice was probably at it's best this week and actually kinda surprised me, seeings as Pride says nothing and it was actually a nice little addition.

This episode was actually full of nice little additions actually, like Winry mentioning Al was in Resembool and Ed choosing not to go meet him, it was a nice little moment. I like that the animators are clearly using the 'aged Al' model sheet now, it was a little touch that I always liked in the Manga and am glad to see here. Why they changed the reason Ed was in Winry's room is beyond me. Just in case you haven't read the Manga, he was in that room because it's the best to watch out for intruders, not so he 'could enjoy the view' which sounds like a flimsy pretext for 'I was going through your undies'. God has Ed been taking tips on romance from a certain NOT A VAMPIRE with whom he shares his name?

Greed is awesome, that is all. I agree with penguintruth, his speech on Greed is awesome and really shows alot about his character, and in reflection, probably foreshadows a lot.

I like the music they used during the scene with Grumman overseeing the troops and telling Miles (whose name I continuely have to look up) about Bradley's presence, but I kind question it's use there. It's like they put in the wrong part of the song, using the grander and less used part for a scene that... really didn't call for it.

Olivier is awesome as well, even flowers get their arse kicked by her. You know how awesome she is? She could roundhouse kick Chuck Norris, and get him pregnent.

Am I wrong to say this episode marks the first appearance of General Hakuro and Mustang's Ishbal Squadron in Brotherhood? Correct me if I'm forgetting their previous appearances but I found it amusing that they're only just appearing now.

Love the use of the ending theme here, with Grumman snapping his fan shut as the music starts, giving a cheeky grin to camera. It really worked and it's moments like that, and like last weeks ending and the added scene with Pride why I am glad the anime, for all the bashing it gets, exists. The manga was good but those moments worked in ways the manga couldn't, combining animation, music and voice acting to make a perfect moment.

Speaking of perfect moments; next week commences the beginning of the Pride battle. A battle that ranks as #1 in my top ten list of favourite moments in the series. It was this battle that made Pride my favourite character, so please, please BONES, don't ruin it for me. Though the next episode preview has left me assured. Especially with that ultra creepy music - PLEASE tell me this is Pride's theme.
Vicious74
Grumman's face at the end = win.

And agreed about Greed's speech on greed (no pun intended). It speaks volumes of his character and it's part of why I like him even more than the original Greed.

Sad but true. Him and Riza are the lowest points of the Japanese dub as far as I'm concerned.

Wow I love how they have transformed Ed and Winry! They are no longer little kiddies anymore! ed is a major hunk and Winry is a total hottie now. GEEZ.

Once Winry started to take off her top my boyfriend says "yeah!!!" then "aaww..." LOL

I didn't LOVE this episode, the pacing was a little weird, and I feel like things are moving WAY FAST. TOMORROW is the promised day???? ALREADY???

Yeah I thought it went a bit fast at first too, but I skimmed back through the manga and it looks like it pretty faithfully covered chaps 84 & 85, so two chaps for one episode isn't push too much content IMO.

They did a great job of animating these chapters...they're just so much more powerful to me in this format than when I took them in separately via the manga. So yeah, I really loved this episode, as it seems to have pulled everything together and has me pumped to see what will happen next (even though, assuming they stay true to the manga, I already know what will happen)!

It's been mentioned in the episode that the current events took place the day before the Promised Day. Is it true, or was it mistake in the subs?

Yeah, shouldn't the Promised Day be the big climax I've been hearing about? How is one more day going to take another ten to fifteen episodes?

I will enjoy the EdWin in this episode. It's the last time we'll see Winry until... y'know...

I just saw the beginning of the Funimation sub. I didn't care for the dialogue difference in the Ed and Winry scene from the sub I saw Monday. Winry is less intense and her statement is too softened in my opinion.

In the Funimation sub she says: "Can't you do anything to stop the county from getting messed up?" and "slam the door shut on it and protect the county." I liked it better when she said "beat them to a pulp and protect our country" in the other sub. Unless that's a hint about what he literally has to do in the end--'slam the door shut' on Father.

And they didn't have Ed say: "When you get too greedy it comes back to bight you in the behind." Sorry I just liked that line in the manga.
Chiyo
Moved a couple posts to Edward & Winry thread. Please keep discussion about them as a couple there.
Dearheart
I know it's a bit late to be commenting on this episode, but I just wanted to say that I LOVED the bit of Ed-and-Al-brotherly-love fluff they added in, with Ed wanting to join up with his brother on the train but choosing not to so Al would be safer. YAY BROTHER FWUFF!! <33 One of the ways Brotherhood has sort of disappointed me in is the general lack of brother fluff that FMA1 had. So whenever they put a moment like that in, I latch onto it like a life preserver and milk it for all its worth. xD

*sighs* Oh Brotherhood, why did you have to be such a mixed bag? In a perfect world, the emotion, depth, brotherly fluff and smooth storytelling of the first series would be combined with the art, character growth, EdWin fluff and stronger storyline of the second series to make the perfect FMA adaptation. Alas, t'was not meant to be...but hey, at least Brotherhood kicked into gear eventually.

Anyway, this episode was really enjoyable... and when I saw the scene with Ed taller than Winry, I kinda gawked. Because I forgot about that in the manga. Really.

Nothing new or constructive coming from me, just my own thoughts...

DAMN! I could barely concentrate on the damn subtitles when Ed was looking so...so...droolworthy.
Mustang was pretty cute too.
But my heart were with Alphonse...gah, I've read the manga, but still...

Wai-wai-wait! "One day prior to the 'Promised Day'"? Didn't the Promised day JUST happen in chapter 104?! How long is that damn day?
