This has been bugging me for a while...
Riza said at her father's funeral that she has no relatives that she knew of.. and said that her parents were estranged from their families. (Chapter 60) So what is all this about Grumman being her grandfather? I'm guessing he really is her grandfather, because the evidence is sorta there, I suppose... but why didn't Riza think of him? Or was it because she hadn't met him at the time.. or some other unknown reason? I have no clue, and I can't figure this out! Help?

Is there some special reason Hohenheim has gold eyes, does any other character have them? (apart from obviously Ed and Al who have them because they inherited them from him.) Does the manga ever pick up on this being unusual, or is it of no significance
I assume they all have gold hair and eyes at Xerxes too kinda like how white hair, red eyes, and brown skin is a trait of the Ishvalan people. I do wonder if Xerxes has any ethnic minorities, especially when one of Hohenheim's fellow slaves has
dark skin? I wonder if she has the gold eyes and hair too? She could be mixed with Ishvalan for all we know. Can't wait for whenever it gets animated, that's for sure.
Edit: messed up link.

@
hand-made-city - As far as I know, I don't think there have been any entries in the manga (or anime for that matter) to explain this clearly. But, as you posted, Riza and papa Hawkeye had been estranged from the family of Riza's mother's side, so, it's not far off to suppose that up to the time of papa Hawkeye's funeral there had been no contact between Riza and Grumman (if even she was aware that Grumman was alive, or in the military ...since papa Hawkeye seems to have had a negative view on Amestris military, or at least alchemists being "dogs of the military," it's not surprising if Grumman, who is the carrier military man, hasn't come up in the conversation between Riza and papa Hawkeye) hence, I guess it's not odd that Riza did not think of Grumman as part of her family at the time of papa Hawkeye's funeral??... I think.

_Mat - Since Gluttony has some "childlike" mentality, he may look her up as "motherly/big sister
ish" kind of figure, and she responds to that as well, while other homunculi don't seem to care much about spending much time alone with Gluttony? (My guess. XD)

In what chapter do we find out that General Grunman is Lt Hawkeye's grandfather? I have volumes 1-18 right now. And I try not to read scanlations if I can help it. But if it is a scanlation I will read it.

Where did you hear that Grunman was Lt. Hawkeye's grandfather? I've read the whole series so far, and there's been no mention of it... :/
Hey

There's currently no mention of it in the series, only in Perfect Guidebook 2.

~ How Are Mei And Ling Related? ~
So here's something I don't understand;
Ling is the twelfth prince of Xing and Mei is the seventeenth princess of Xing, so that would make them brother and sister, right (maybe different mothers)?
But that's never been made clear and with them being enemies, they being in different clans etc... I'm kinda confused.

Yikie - I'm assuming they are half brother and sister, and the current Xing emperor has lots of lots of wives and concubines, and one of them is May's mother from Chan clan and another one is Lin's mother from Yao clan.

I don't recall seeing farther details on this in manga, but if anyone has better info please post and help.

Re: How Are Mei And Ling Related?
Yeah, you know, this is also something that I've thought about. But they are only physically half brother and sister, they don't come from the same family. The king has a child in every clan, I THINK there are 24 princes and 19 princesses.

Re: How Are Mei And Ling Related?
mm I read some stuff up on this a long time ago, I can't really remember much of it now, but the system is apparently based on an ancient chinease system where the Emporer takes a wife (concubines) from different clans in the country and has a child with them. There could be loads of children, waaay into double digits. Anyway Ling and Mei share the same father but will have different mothers, so are only half-syblings, the reason for the enemyness, is that the succsor of the throne will be able to provide a better life for their clan, so there is a lot of competition between the syblings, since they're from different clans I expect they will have had very little to do with each other growing up.

Re: Which senses does Al have? Which body functions can Al "do"?
I never really thought about it before...I guess I sorta thought of Al a bit like your typical ghost, ghosts as people usually portray them can hear and see, in other words 'observe' but are frequently invisible to other people and can not interact physically with objects. They don't breath and therefore can not smell either. It's not 'Al' people are seeing, it't the armour hes locked in, sooo yer thats how i thought of it.

Goral - Yap,
Kirara is correct. ^^ Please check out my post on this thread
here, then click on posted scanned page of Perfect Guidebook 2.
There is also another entry in the character encyclopedia section of the same book, and under General Grumman it again says he is Riza's Grandfather on her mother's side. And, since Perfect Guidebook 2 is one of the few official FMA guidebooks, I tread this as semi-canon fact even though this was never stated in the manga chapters.

Thanks for replies Kirara and Tombow. I regret though that I've learned about this via non-manga source. It would be so much better to read it in one of the chapters. My jaw would be definitely on the floor for a longer period of time. I'm sure Arakawa had a reason for not informing 'casual' readers like me about them being related (for now at least).

I think that's propably the only time they met, but I might be wrong. It has been a long time since I read the early parts of the manga...
And if you're talking about
the Rockbells' murder, it was
done by a different person in the manga. And she
confronted that person twice in the manga now.
Kyelinn
Jul 31 2009, 11:05 AM
From what I can remember, Roy and Winry have only met twice in the manga. Once when he came to the house before Ed got his automail and the 2nd time when Winry had grown up and said she was beautiful, blah blah blah. Other than that, Roy and Winry don't really have anything to do with one another in the manga. If you're talking about the confrontation I think you're talking about, the story is completely different in the manga than it was in the first anime, so there will be no confrontation.

FMA-Girl - Umm... yeah, I guess you haven't reached the chapter for it yet, but if you don't mind being spoiled, please read the Spoiler part on
Andie's post above, or
Kyelinn's post above, because I'm guessing you are talking that Winry would confront Roy about the murder of
her parents, right?? If so, no, that didn't happen. But if you keep reading manga chapters eventually Winry gets the chance to
"confront the person who killed her parents."

I feel Ed's pain, I allways hated milk XD I was a stubborn child who refused to drink it, but when i was very young I used to automatically throw up the moment i drank it so maybe that had an effect XD I drink it now, but only for nutritional value or in my tea or to 'dampen' my cereal XD i like skimmed most, semi-skimmed is a bit yucky, full fat and anything creamy i wont touch its disgusting, hate hate hateeeeeeee!I think in my case its a bit of a family trait lots of people dont like milk, however despite been small myself, the fact Ed doesn't drink milk isn't an excuse for his height XD my cousin never drinks milk and shes pretty tall, she claims fruit makes you grow taller but er im not convinved... XD So yeah i get ya Ed XD
Thalogens
Dec 4 2009, 06:15 PM
Maybe he was squirted by a cow when he was younger? I don't know, I love milk (anything other than full fat is bland to me)
Maybe the hate Ed harbours for it now will grow into a phobia - I have a family friend who's deathly afraid of fruit, who used to hate it with a passion when he was smaller, and as he grew became scared of it.
Though I'm not sure Ed being scared of milk will be beneficial at all to the plot line.
EniviD EiraM
Dec 4 2009, 09:57 PM
maybe Ed thinks that drinking milk insults him..... like telling him to drink it for his height's sake and so he just want to prove that he'll get tall in a natural way !

Completely inverted with Fullmetal Alchemist. General Grumman has a grand-daughter, Hawkeye, rather than opposing a potential hook-up between her and Colonel Mustang, he is the one who suggests it, Mustang respectfully declines, and shortly thereafter is sent too the nation's HQ rather than away from it.
