Hahah this reminds me of a question I had... why do they need to go through so much trouble to get to Father's 'lair' when it's just below them? Can't they just... take the stairs? Joking, of course... but the idea did strike me as funny.

This JUST occured to me, primarily because of this week's episode.

I said Scar was present for a reason, I assumed it meant he was going to be killed somehow, but I'm so stupid. Pride's turned up. Pride swallowed Kimblee. Scar's nemesis during the entire story is Kimblee. I'd say there's a good chance Pride will end up staying to finish off Scar and the rest of them: which includes Riza, whose nemesis is probably Pride in the long run.

Oh and Riza and Scar just happened to have had that little convo before hand - could that have been foreshadowing a double team on Pride?

Only reason I bring this up is Arakawa has always done a really good job of setting up character conflicts and so far they've all been resolved:

Mustang/ Envy and Wrath
Marcoh/ Envy
Olivier/ Sloth
Ling and Greed/ Wrath

So it'd be a shame and a missed oppurtunity if they didn't at least use Pride's presence as a chance to resolve Scar's conflict. After hearing Scar scream Kimblee's name this week, I really, really hope they don't miss this oppurtunity.

Hmmm.... Interesting thought! I think that a Pride vs. Scar scenario is highly likely, though I'm not sure to what extent Riza will be able to participate--if she does at all. She's probably too drained at the moment to be of much use fighting Pride (she couldn't even stand up without being supported in chapter 101, after all....) But honestly, I don't know. I think that a Riza/Scar double team would make a lot of sense based on their interaction in chapter 98 (I think that was it....). It really would make sense for Riza to play some part in his destruction. I just can't see how at present.

But Scar's conflict with Kimblee is already resolved. The day he looked down upon Kimblee, their roles completely reversed compared with the first time they met, Scar gave up on his revenge and decided to follow a better path. In fact, their roles were so completely reversed that the one obsessed with the other wasn't Scar anymore, but Kimblee. Look at Kimblee's expression on their last encounter :



Kimblee has lost. An absolute defeat against that Ishbalan whom he failed to kill the first time, who soundly trashed him the second time (not even using alchemy to land the winning blow), and who now looks down on him. Scar made him lose the composed, smug expression he always had before. He made him turn berserk. That's the best victory that one ever had on his nemesis in that manga. Mustang went lower to beat Envy, Scar beat Kimblee by getting higher, both literally and figuratively.

Scar will probably be key in defeating someone very dangerous, either Pride, Bradley or Father. In a big group battle of course, because none of them can be taken alone by anyone. But I don't expect Riza to play any part in this : like May said, it's only first aid. Riza needs to be taken to a real doctor as soon as possible. She's too weak right now to be of any help, I even expect either Darius or Zampano (or both) to be sent behind to find a doctor for her and Gelso.

I never really saw that as a resolution to their conflict, but if that is the resolution it's not a bad one. I just think the fact Pride's swallowed Kimblee and is now standing before Scar would be a missed oppurtunity. Not to mention, the Chimera also have beef with Kimblee. Kimblee was swallowed for a reason, I think anyway.

Yeah on reflection Riza isn't going to have an active role during whatever comes next, but Pride and Riza's interaction has to be resolved.

He still has to reveal his real name, and his objective would have everything to do with Amestris itself. So I guess, of those three it'll be Bradley.

The circle is activated when Wrath pins Roy's hands to the circle, when Roy's hands make contact the trasmutation is activated using Goldtooth's body as the material transmuted. So in effect Roy is performing human transmutation on Goldtooth's dead body.

Also Roy is considered a sacrifice not in the sense of the transmutation that just occured but in the fact that they plan on him opening the gate in gaining the knowledge within. That's what makes him a 'potential' sacrifice for Father's ultimate goal (which hasn't been reveal yet). As of right now he's merely assembling the neccessary peices.

yah but surely Roy needs to 'want' to transmute, concentrate on transmuting, or as i said before a character like winry could touch a circle and have it work, which obviously she can't...they say that the stages to transmutation are understanding decomposition and recomposition, and the understanding part probably includes understanding the principles and concentrating on the creation of the end product etc which I just can't see Roy doing, like that damn chemistry test I had today, I know the stuff but if I don't wanna think about it awnsers won't emerge XD haha

Like Forsaken Love said, it feels questionable that someone could physically force you into doing a human transmutation (or any transmutation, for that matter) against your own free will.

But it's already december, so soon we're going to find out! ^^

Still, I get the feeling that the whole who-transmuted-what question won't get answered and that we'll just have to take what we saw. I know Arakawa isn't one for plot holes but this seems relatively minor and unimportant in the face of what has happened.

So when can we expect Chapter 102 to come out? This is the first time I've caught up with the manga, so I don't know if it comes early, middle, or late in the month...

The scanlations are usually available relatively early, or sometimes near the middle, of the month. I'd say, 10 - 15 December. If there isn't some special christmas thing that I don't know about.

Hahaha, welcome to the club! Having only one chapter in month is just a torment. However, the next chapter should be around Dec 10-15, so we don't have to wait for long anymore.

You know what I am secretely hoping for? That Arakawa would have already finished the last few closing chapters of the manga, where the final act takes place, and that they would be released in a special christmas bundle! So that she cound end the series at the end of the year! That would feel fitting.

I know it's not gonna happen. But it would have been nice ^^

I just re-read some past chapters recently, and found some details that suggest Roy's blood getting on the array is important.

So far, all transmutations we've seen involve the transmuter's blood. Ed and Al used their blood; Izumi used her own blood to transmute her child; and most tellingly, Father used Hoho's blood to open the gate. The only exception might be Ed opening the gate in Gluttony's stomach, but remember that Ed was hurt, and Glutonny's stomach was also a sea of blood.

Hopefully all this will be explained in the next chapter

mm yeh but the blood was meant to be 'instructions' to the soul to be brought back, in the case of gluttoneys stomach, ed was remaking himself, so the blood was inside of him allready

I think it has to do with a combination of Mustang's hands being forcefully placed down on the array, his blood being on it, Pride drawing the circle with his shadow (and Kimblee's alchemy knowledge) and Goldtooth being used for the transmutation...and the stone being involved somehow.

I don't even know if Arakawa will spend time explaining it much, she's in the climatic point of the story, perhaps it's better we just assume that combination works out somehow.

I give it 5-6 chapters. There's not much left to tie up now and almost every chapter is going to be focused on tying stuff up. After the climatic battle I wouldn't expect more than a chapter or two of epilogue either.

If it goes on any longer the Brotherhood anime is screwed too, since episodes are animated months in advance of them being on TV (they're always working on multiple eps at once) so they always need to be a good 10 chapters or so behind at least. Within 6 months they'll probably be up to chapter 100.
