Watched Yet Another Man's Battlefield (this is the official title given on the disc) OVA on Tuesday night (as I had gotten my vol. 13 blu-ray that day) and out of all the OVAs it's definitely the best one (especially in terms of quality).

Love the fact that all of the music used were all of the Amestris military related tracks, though Lapis Philosophorum was also used beautifully.

Funimation had better collect all of these OVA onto a disc and translate them...

The other thing that surprised me was how much English was actually used within the OVA, as it was used in a lot of the transition scenes.

Given the fact that nobody ripped it yet (and it's been already over a week), is there any possibility you can rip it from your DVD and share?

Can't unfortunately. I have a copy of the Blu-Ray version of the volume and my only bd player is my PS3.

awesome screenshots..cant wait for the ova now...

Finally watched the OVA with Roy and Hughes, and it was great. I can't wait to watch it with subs again to understand everything. The group that subs the OVAs also has the raw, so I think the subbed version will be out soon.

If anyone wants a link to the OVA, PM me. happy.gif
A Pierrot's Aria
The punches dealt in the alleyway really looked like they hurt! I felt so sorry for that Ishvalan! The war scene looked really good, and the gaiden portion looked brilliant! Loved the choice of BGM, too.

I really love the look of this OVA, I can't wait until it's subbed, I thought it was never going to emerge! laugh.gif
Kasumisty
Still waiting for it to download. How long exactly is that OVA?
A Pierrot's Aria
It (the whole video) is 17 minutes and 49 seconds. smile.gif

@Michiyo below Definitely, I agree! biggrin.gif
Michiyo-
And without credits it's 16 minutes and 11 seconds long. So I think it's the longest OVA. And the best one, in my opinion. happy.gif Everything was perfect, the animation, the music, the story, the voice acting were all great.
Vlyse
Definitely like this one more than Tales of the Master, which was my favorite. While that one is pure comedy, this one has comedy and drama. And more Ishval and Hughes is good as well. BGM placement was on par with episode 60, which I thought had the best placement in the series. "The Intrepid" starting up and then skipping to the end was the only thing I found weird.

At first, I was worried they were adding anime-original scenes to "His Battlefield Once More", but they managed to improve on it. I liked the story with the Ishvalan. Without spoiling, one scene happened really fast and I'm glad they didn't draw it out like they have tried in some episodes.
Kasumisty
-Didn't know Mustang was THAT upset about that quiche XD
-Great animation - top notch!
-Wow, a lot of racism in this one.
-I wish I could understand what they're saying...'cos there's a lot of dialogue.
-The battle sequence was soo good
-So that's how we should solve problems - by beating the sh*t out of someone!
-Wow, confrontation on the battlefield, I did not expect that.
-Hughes looks terrifying when angry...

Great extract from a war.

The best OVA in my opinion as well.

I'm so eager to see it with the subtitles.

Anybody know were I could watch/download the raw? I've dying to see this.

OMG! Thank you so much! *hugs and kisses*

Roy looks so darn cute! Especially with the backwards cap...
This seems like an interesting story with the Ishvalan, so I can't wait to see what they are saying! It really showed the two sides of Roy - the dreamer and the killer. The part about the Ishval annilation nearly made me burst into tears. Man, Hughes was such a great friend... *sniffle*

EDIT: Watched it subbed. What a great OVA. I love this way of FMA - the main plot is just a piece of the whole story, something like 40-50% of the FMA, the rest is profile books, guide books and OVAs. I love how the story tells us about the main concept of the war.

I especially liked how it shows us more Maes Hughes - because the main manga series does not tell us much about his character. Makes me like him even more.
A Pierrot's Aria
It's even better with subs! smile.gif

I didn't actually realise the first time when I watched the RAW that it was the Ishvalan Roy and Maes befriended in the academy that Maes shot on the rooftop. That was heart-wrenching. The Ishvalan has a weird name though; it says Heiss Clif in the subs, but I can't help but think Heathcliff. laugh.gif

I also really love the facial expressions, especially the weariness around the eyes. It just shows amazingly the affect the war is having on them.

The gaiden part was awesome, too. I was tearing up when Roy asked for 30 seconds, because it must be so hard to compose yourself in such a small amount of time; not even a minute, which I'm pretty sure Maes let him have.
Kasumisty
Oh, and I got confused at one part - it was told that the "bullies" were a year higher than Roy in that academy. Then Roy sees Maes chatting with them on canteen and deduces that he must be friends with them. I got a feeling that Maes must be a senior too, but in profile books it's written that he is in the same age as Roy...

...Well, or he simply just talked with seniors.
MsLinn
Thanks Kasumisty!
Well there goes a bunch of fan-theories of how they met. I really like this version, it was such a surprise! I knew that they'll get along, and I figured out how pretty quick, but still, it was really good.
The second half is based on the gaiden with the same name, right? But I don't recognize the first half.
Gracia was so pretty! And Hughes, ;_;

And maybe some people that was unhappy about the lack of Mustang in the new gaiden get a little bit happier now? :3
Pyroclasm
Awesome, thanks so much, Kasumisty! I'm glad to finally watch the subbed version.

...God it was so sad... I really teared up when Maes was telling Roy that living with the woman he loved was the greatest happiness he could want and how he was going to be strong and smile when he was with her. T_T I really enjoyed watching it.

The whole quiche thing made me laugh though. Roy must REALLY like quiche. He acted like Maes was his mortal enemy for taking the last slice. XD

Maybe Maes entered the Military Academy a year before Roy? They could still be the same age, just in different year levels.
His Name is Unknown
Oh wow - I consider myself to be a pretty big FMA fan, but I had no idea that this material existed, gaiden or otherwise, so it was a real treat when I stumbled upon this.

Maes is my favorite character in FMA; this new story really added to the history of the Ishvalan War as well as shed some light on Hughes' enigmatic comments throughout the anime about witnessing hell and shouldering personal burdens.

The scenes with Roy, Maes, and the quiche were funny - guess that explains why Gracia got so good at making it for him! biggrin.gif

Love how Roy was furiously taking notes in class while Maes was dozing off in boredom, and the scene in the alleyway had me smiling from ear to ear. This OVA accomplished so much in so little time...makes me wonder how the director and animators could mess up the pacing so badly in some of the main story episodes.

I have to agree with the comment that this episode has excellent musical selection - definitely my favorite use of Lapis Philosophorum in the entire series; the emotion in the tent when Maes almost snaps struggling with his inner turmoil was heart-wrenching. This just cements beyond a shadow of a doubt how twisted it was that Hughes died...and killed by his own 'wife,' no less. The scene at the train station was SO SAD. crybaby.gif

For me, this OVA went a long way towards answering the question of Mustang's motivation for such fierce vengeace over Maes' death...besides the obvious factor of 'best friend' status. Some great character development here.

Oh, and where are my manners?!

Thanks to EveningAlchemist for the RAW link and Kasumisty for the subbed version - my FMA craving has been assuaged. biggrin.gif
Kasumisty
Small thing I noticed - Maes gave Roy a whole minute, not just 30 seconds.

Thought I would share, lol.
A Pierrot's Aria
^Yeah, I mentioned that in my post. laugh.gif

I thought it was really sweet, it actually bought a tear to my eye! And I just keep thinking about how agonising that minute must have felt for Roy, knowing what he had to go out and do after his time was up. (Well, even more-so if Hughes had stuck to the originally requested 30 seconds!)
His Name is Unknown
That's what friendship is all about - those little, unexpected, and unappreciated gestures. It was a great moment for canon Roy/Hughes friendship, and I am extremely happy with its inclusion; even more so now that I've had the chance to actually read the original gaiden work and appreciate the anime-only additions.

For all my issues with Brotherhood, it's moments like these (and seeing Wrath's fights animated) that make me happy it was made.

^ I liked the animation and the art also. ^^
In fact, I really really liked this OVA. The story, music, animation.. they all come together nicely, IMO.

- Any word on the Brotherhood OVA English dubs? -

^Topic. I enjoy the English voicework quite a bit, and I'm hoping for dubs of the OVAs.
Pananan
I'm also interested in this. The FMA-1 OVAs were included with the dubbed movie stuff IIRC, which could mean they will do the same for MiloStar.

The 4-koma theater would be interesting to see dubbed, so I'm hopeful about that too.
Full Metal Elf
I would also like to know about this. I'm disappointed they weren't put on the DVDs/Blu-rays from the start. But hopefully Funimation will release something when the movie is released.
A Pierrot's Aria
I haven't heard any news at all about this, but I really do hope that they release the OVAs in English at some point--especially "His Battlefield Once More". That's by far my favourite OVA! Perhaps they'll be released separately like the FMA-1 OVAs. ohmy.gif

Since we have a FMA: Brotherhood "Gaiden" OVAs thread in which any discussion pertaining to Brotherhood OVAs can be held, this thread shall be merged with that one soon. biggrin.gif
A Pierrot's Aria
(Will merge posts later!)

I read on Funimation's website that they've acquired the OVAs and four-panel comic theatre... ohmy.gif (As well as announced MiloStar dub cast.)

QUOTE
But, there's always an encore after a grande finale, isn't there?

We've also got an extra special announcement for you today. We got the Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood OVAs and Fullmetal Four-Panel Comic Theater. These four OVAs were originally released with the individual Japanese volumes of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood .

The Blind Alchemist
Simple People
The Tale of Teacher
Yet Another Man’s Battlefield
“Fullmetal Four-Panel Comic Theater”.

Expect more information coming soon.

I hope we get more info soon!

I'm looking forward to the releases! biggrin.gif
