Psh, I stayed up for this?

My initial thoughts:

- Hohenheim with younger Pinako! Wooh.
- Wooh, Sloth is in the OP!
- So is Kimbley!
- OLIVIA ARMSTRONG IN THE OP! JOYGASM. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
- Er... fancy clip episode?
- Nice eyecatch... Pinako is friggin' beautiful as a younger woman, I'm surprised Hohenheim didn't hook up with her at some point
- Hey, remember when the first series had all those clip episodes? Oh, it didn't have any? Fancy that. Shows can survive without them.
- I miss the original Greed ;_;
- Thanks for reminding me of BETTER episodes than this one!
- ZZZZzzzz... hurh, what? The episode is over? Oh, right. Hey, uh, new ED!

When all those characters appeared towards the end, I was prepared to hear, "CONGRATULATIONS!" and then "Fly Me To The Moon".

Zii
Recap episode. Only worth watching for the new OP (or the ED, if you like Winry), or if you're highly sentimental.
I guess animators can't work ALL year round... ^^;

LMAO , i swear i was thinking exactly the same!!!!

A real waste of space, recaps of all episodes that happened. Not really shocking or unpredictable, it was a Hoho's dream. I like the opening, don't like the ending, I'm fond of some original scenes (Especially Trisha shot like in the first opening). I was hoping for more concrete flashbacks, e.g. Family Potrait or that other gaiden one. And maybe Ed or Al's birth, or something like that. Sheesh. 2/10
SneakyRuler
Began a little late so I managed to see only half of the OP and then recap? Only reason for a recap I can think of is for people not familiar with the manga to gather all the facts about homunculi, philosopher's stones and so on... which wouldn't be needed if they took it slowlier before. I am totally angry for the use of the amazing ending from the last ep in a clip show, ruined the moment for me a little.

Liked Pinako and Trisha, it showed how skilled in dealing with Hohenheim they both are/were.

Nice ED, looks well balanced but without superiority in animation - just nice pictures laugh.gif (Thank heavens they didn't take the fanservice as far as in anime1, Winry looked like a person working in an automail shop instead of sexual object)

They should've done it, a little bit of hunour never hurts.

i just seen this episode just now and i thought that was it anymore more then i seen the preview for next weeks episode. oh i love the new opening and ending
Anakishi
LOLWTF
I was expecting them to put a filler or sth, and then end up with the last part of chapter 53 (that would have been great, btw). When I saw it was recap, ok, fine by me, as long as they put the last part of.... huh? o.O where's that part? Just Hohenheim getting drunk? You should stop doing that, Hoho, seriuosly: if the show has to stop every time you do that, we're doomed.
In the end, I was kinda expecting some smooth commercial, like: "Stray Dog: the beer that makes you dream like Evangelion (drink with moderation)", that would have been nice.
Serioulsy, it's 5:30 am here, I had to get off my bed sleepwalking, BUT it was definitely worth the giggles. Thank you, Bones.
(oh, yes, good OP, not so good ED, etc)
I promised I would not post anyhting about this series here again, but I couldn't resist. cya

Recap...

As much as I loved the OP, the ED pissed me off... FMA girls Ending, right... so... where the hell are Riza and Olivier? -.-
I think BONES has something against Riza...
Alzea
Darn, I didn't wake up to watch live streaming because usually fillers are crap (looks like I was right) but OP switch right now?
I wanna watch new op~ T^T
So~, ED is full of Winry (bleh) just like "Motherland" was in anime1?
Yes, amestris_star, you're right, I mean it's already ep 27 and still not even single eyecatch...
penguintruth
It didn't even deserve to be called "filler". It was a recap ep.

I'd take a village of people with a strange hardening disease (ala series 1) over this.

Now I REALLY fear seeing this episode. But true what was said about the ED being packed full of Winry, Motherland anyone? Not that I won't watch it but not going to expect much now.

the randomblogger link that michiyo provided, yu can also see the opening and ending steaming. notice how winry always get the 3rd endings to herself like in the first series. hahahah.

Ok, I've watched this episode and guess what - booooooooooooring~~! Really, penguitruth was right - this is not even a filler just recaps.

I liked OP, just because of Briggs part and maybe Ishvar, it was average I think, not the best one. ED was just simply crappy, I think this is the worst ED so far.
Well, now I'm waiting for ep 30 - Ishvar falshabck and Roy/Riza backstory, I hope they won't mess it up - BONES really has something against Riza so who knows...Still I hope they will do this right! They have to!

Yes, it is. Not so much fanservice but still~It's full of Winry and most of these are just pics, not even animations, but hey, there is still one animation with RanFun and May (something like 3 seconds)! Tsk, well, I don't really like Winry so you know, I think it's a pure crap xP

I just saw the part where what appears Father unmasking Pinako to be Honemheim, freaking symbolism athough I hope capsummeries has the idea of a scoobydoo joke.

Forsaken Love
lol putting mei and ran fan in the ending for like 2 seconds was pointless XD they shoulda made it an all girl ending and included riza (and possibly olivia and izumi too) and split the time equally between them, would flowed better XD
mersaydee
Ok, I haven't seen the ep yet - though I'm not exactly opposed to a recap ep. Samurai Champloo had one that was pretty good, and this looks to be about on par with that. Not as good as a new episode, of course - but at least it isn't the wholly manufacted storyline a lot of people were fearing, and that's a good thing, right?

I like the new OP well enough, though I still think the first remains my favorite. The clips they used were great (but absolutely spoilerific). GreedLing! Dapper Hat!Kimblee! (whom I just love, I'm so glad we're going to get the awesome urbane Kimblee) Olivia and the Briggs crew (Falman included)!

The ED is... well, forgettable. I'm also wondering why we're basically getting a "day in the life of Winry." I think the first remains my favorite, as well - the Elric brothers sketching out things in colored chalk was just adorable, and when you see them turn around at the end of it, it sort of brings it all home. These two are ultimately what it's all about.

Also, uh... WTF HAPPENED TO WINRY'S BOOBS? Just what kind of work are they doing at Garfiel's shop? I'm just sayin'.

She went from this...

Whuuuut??? Ok, I get that we don't have Lust anymore, but geez!

Maybe she had them grown bigger...by automail o.o Wants to add Madonna's bra joke...but will restrain
Forsaken Love
lulz well maybe winry just grew up a bit, im sure it happens in the manga too (allthough i dont think to that degree XD thats a hell of a lot of growth in such a short time period XD haha) Ed gets quite the growth spurt aswell
Chiyo
Okay technically this is about the end credits but it does tie in to the series. The part where Winry is on the phone mirror's a semi important scene from the manga. See these credits are letting us know what Winry's up to currently, but the phone call might be like after Bradley makes it clear to Edward that he knows Winry is his "weakness" and Ed goes off to call her to check she's okay. I say it mirrors it as she's angry and then calm
penguintruth
Well, obviously, Winry is stuffing.

She keeps a wrench in there.
SneakyRuler
Garfiel-san may have learned her a few tricks wink.gif Honestly, I like Winry but I couldn't force myself to watch Motherland, this is far more better than that. No animation.

I was so hoping Hohenheim was shown in the preview only to distract us (like right before 19 we were made to worry about Hawkeye while the actual focus of the ep was on Lust and the one in most danger was Havoc). Oh well. No we know that Pinako was enthusiast drinker and smoker even in her youth and that Hohenhem always keeps a bottle with him.

On the brighter side - waiting for subtitles won't be so hard, we just can switch between wpisodes biggrin.gif
QueenTiria
I know this isn't concerning the episode itself, but for some reason those flowers shown in the op are really really pretty. I mean, the shape isn't pretty, the colour (plain white?) isn't that amazing either but for some reason they just seem to glow. Huh. Maybe they WERE glowing lol^^

Maybe her boob tube is actually REALLY tight? Maybe she stuffed it so Ed would actually notice that she's a girl, not just his childhood friend XD
StormGoddess
Glad I live in Asia, I didn't have to wake up in the morning to watch this recap of episodes that I've seen more than twice (thanks fansubs). Oh well, we can't forget those people who don't download/rewatch the past episodes so yeah, maybe BONES thought people have forgotten everything and just wanted to remind them LOL. But they could've just used their budget for some episode more important than this. dry.gif The end was quite good, though. It's good to see Trisha again. And Pinako, too.

I just saw the op and realized Winry wasn't in there so maybe that explains why the ending was almost all about her. But seriously, why didn't they include Riza and Olivier in it? Do they have something against blonde female soldiers? Oh wait, Olivier was shown for like 3 sec. in the opening while Riza just got half a second. They really have something against Riza. D:

I am one of those people who never chooses between an arm and a leg so for me they are both equally bad. I hated that episode in the first series and I refuse to watch this one. smile.gif

If this episode was all filler I would also refuse to watch it just to clarify. But since the first series was making up its own story I guess that episode about the village of people wasn't really filler (it just wasn't a good episode.)

And two endings that focus on Winry. Don't get me wrong I love Winry but someone on the animation team must really love her. As someone said I would have loved an ending that focused on all the the FMA girls not just Winry.

The opening is pretty cool but has spoilers.

Well, there was one good thing about that episode in the first series.

The diner scene!
Jealous Rogo
Ya know last week I suggested that what we were seeing in the preview would make up on a small amount of the episode, this wasn't exactly what I had in mind O_O Bit surprised by a recap episode, buuuut I suppose with a story this complicated it was needed? Uh... give full opinion when I see the episode but yeah... bit surprised by this
Forsaken Love
lulz if people forgot what had happened they coulda just rewatched the old eps, recaps in animes that go on forever annoy me, but in fma when they skipped so much material is GAAAAH, why couldnt they have say, included another ep in the Greed arc! owell last week i promised not to moan since BONES practically perfected my favourite scene (ed and al in the gate)
S.F. Thunder
I won't judge this episode much until I've seen the subs, but too be honest I liked how it was done. Yes, I wish we had gotten right to the events from volume 14, but if they really felt they needed a recap episode then they could've done a lot worse. I'm really starting to like Hohenheim, so I liked that all of the new material of the episode was about him.

Though... I am a bit weirded out that he met Trisha when she was a little girl, what with him being an old(ish) man. x-o I never expected lolicon to be present in their relationship, but hey. They made Ed and Al, so however it happened, it's fine by me.

Pinako was cool, though I'm left wondering how she got so short. xD

i loled at 'They made Ed and Al, so however it happened, it's fine by me.' ahahahaha xD
Jen_Elric
Seeing as I had just seen the OP (and I can wait to see the ED), I may just skip this episode. I've seen enough recap episodes from Naruto, and I'd rather not see this one.
Can't wait for next week!
Edamame
Sigh, so it looks like I got my hopes up for absolutely nothing at all. I highly doubt that I'll end up watching the entirety of the episode now if it is just one giant recap; I'll probably just fast-forward. Hohenheim happens to be of my favorite characters in the manga, and I believe that BONES could have done so much more to create a "back-story" for him in the episode. While I am glad to hear that we catch a glimpse of a young Pinako and an even younger Trisha interacting with Hohenheim, I had originally thought that this episode would center more around Hohenheim's past and perhaps include some scenes of his early life with Trisha and his two sons. I am with Kasumisty on this one, that I would have liked to see a more concrete flashback like the "Elric family" gaiden where Hohenheim teaches a very little and stubborn Ed a lesson about life. Personally, I think that would have been a great deal more meaningful and a lot less vapid than spending practically 80% of the episode with fillers. However, I do like how Hohenehiem is drinking a bottle of "Stray Dog" brand beer- definitely a cute reference to Arakawa-sensei's early works.

Uh, you're not supposed to take things happening in a dream as truth, you know. I don't remember how or when they met in the manga, but I'm pretty sure it's not when she's a loli.
Seeker of Truth
"Be sure to drink your Stray Dog! Stray Dog? A crummy commercial? Son of a ...!" I wanna know how Van has dreams about stuff he could not know about! wink.gif

Only thing I have issue with was Ed having the broken arm in the OP, now it will be that way for the rest of its run. tongue.gif
Radadinator
Pointless episode, saved by a bit more creativity (Hohenheim and younger Pinako) in how it was told and some sweet animation.

When the people dancing around the fire exploded and their blood? splashed on the kids' faces, I immediately thought of Happy Tree Friends. biggrin.gif

Bones should remember that having been raised on Naruto and Bleach recaps, there is no way people would even consider watching a single recap from FMA. I still prefer this over the Majihal and disease village and Psiren and other elric brothers from FMA 1.

Mainly looking forward to next episode, though.
Irena
-I kinda liked the new opening (Briggs gang yay!)
- I love the "Stray Dog" on the bottle - great little reference there xD
- Filler episode -____-
- Less recap, more Elric/Hoho backstory would have been good.
- The ending was kinda cute (at least it was better than the Motherland one from the old series)

Oh well. This episode wasn't that great but at least next time we'll be getting back to the main story. In a couple more weeks we should get the whole Roy/Riza Ishval flashback - I really hope it's done well. B|
Kaleidoscope
Not thrilled about the recap, but maybe they did it not just to catch people up, but because of budget?

Recap eps are a great way for a studio to make money, the can just use old animation instead of having to pay for new. If they can save money this way, that's fine by me, hopefully it'll mean that we have lots of good quality animation in future episodes. (I've been kind of afraid brotherhood will suffer budget cuts, considering it's not been doing as well as expected in terms of ratings.)

Kasumisty
Watching the episode for the second time I find Hohenheim's dream very creepy and climatic. The party was sort of mysterious and kinda scared me (wtf, people explosing and gushing the blood on children o_o - if I had such dream, I think I would got a stroke). That young girl was Trisha and I don't find anything sick in it - it's not that Hohenheim was thinking about making children with her THEN. The whole conversation about humans being weak was nice, I don't think it was included in the manga? Oh, and then Trisha in the same cap as in "Again" and Edward and Alphonse...This moment was done beautifully with petals dropping from the sky, the green hills and swans flying by. I got mesmerized. For the rest parts of episode...they really could do something else. Like GAIDENS. Well, Hohenheim's arc fix the episode a little, so I'm giving it 4/10.
zonkiethegreat
Nice new opening!!! biggrin.gif I loved seeing Olivia and the future Kimblee!!! Awesome!

But hey, was this the last episode of the season??? Is that why it was a clip show???

Or will there be a new episode next week???
crazyanimefan
Spoilertastic new OP. I like it, but I think Again is still my fave.

Overall, the new ep was boring. It had some creativity in it (Hoho and young Pinako, Hoho and Trisha (which also ended up being my favorite part)), but otherwise it was overall dull. I watched the OP, forwarded to curious parts, watched the ED, and feel as though I've missed nothing. Ah well, there's always next week.

ED was not the best. Day in the life of Winry, I guess. The RanFan part was the best though.
_Jelly
The only good parts in the OP were the ones with Olivia and co. IMHO

Havent watched the ED yet, not sure if I want to.

And I'm not going to bother with the episode since it's a recap or something right?

Optimism, GO!
EveningAlchemist
I think Bones studio just needs to recharge their awesome juice, especially after the last episode!

Holy crap, I forgot there would be a new opening and ending! Ed looks gorgeous in the flower field! Hooray for the black shirt! drool.gif
All the new people get animated! *Does celebratory dance* They look very similar to the manga, good job Bones. Kimbley looks awesomely creepily animated.

I wasn't really expecting a recap episode, but it flowed pretty well, and connected things together. (Not that we needed an actual episode for that.) Am I the only one who found it kind of fun to watch all the important moments together? It points to the greater truth that only manga readers would know wink.gif It also strived to compare humans, and homunculus, showing the great strength of humans. It's also interesting, because at this point, if you hadn't read the manga you don't know that Hohenheim and Father are two different people so he seems to have multiple personalities! O_o

Other thoughts:
-Hohenheim's dreams are about as creepy as Ed's!
-Pinako was a pretty lady! happy.gif
-Playing the old ending along with some inspiring clips of the characters was a nice touch

The ending song I really like. (I was listening to it on Youtube before this episode came out.) I agree with everyone that it needs more Riza, Lan Fan, Mei and good dose of Olivier for that matter. Though I must admit Winry looks really pretty and peaceful (And totally in love) despite the new issue of boobage... at least they look real. Compared to the other Winry ending of doom that is...
Kyelinn
...Honestly, this episode was completely and utterly pointless. They could've done one of the omakes or something but why was it necessary to recap everything? I dunno, I was just severely disappointed this week. They would've been better off keeping everything on track instead of stuffing this in.
Ant
Gotta agree with most of the comments here. Mostly a trash episode, which is extra disappointing as I've been pleased with every episode so far, and I assumed that it was going to stick very close to the manga (without filler/recap) throughout.

I think what's valuable from that episode, from a quasi-philosophical perspective, is the idea of being an immortal (or, in any event, VERY long lived) in a mortal world. Hohenheim is, at least according to the dream, cynical of the worth of mortals, but he finds (and is finding) the resolve to fight for them, because of his kids, Tricia, and Pinako. In essence, those connections make him human again, at least in spirit. Of course, the episode being 80% recap flashbacks didn't exactly do a lot for advancing this (or a similar) idea.

Good Question. Anyone aware of what the season structure for this anime is/is going to be?
shiroe
Well, haven't actually watched the ep yet, but I don't like the idea of a recap ep either.

Btw, ppl have been talking about Pinako and how she shrank so much. I think the author was trying to send us a message: Don't smoke or drink at a young age, or you will become like Pinako in her old age. wink.gif

Really, this is young Pinako (drinking with Hohenheim, and smoking too)

this is old Pinako (I wonder how many years have passed)
Forsaken Love
^ roughly the current year is 1914 i think (or maybe 1915 if a new year has passed in the story) so doin' a bit of basic maths thats...48/49 years?
shiroe
Oh yeah, so almost 50 years have passed then, makes sense that she has changed so much! biggrin.gif (compared to Hohenheim)
Chiyo
Finally watched the episode, I didn't know I tuned in to Dallas...oh wait no thats another "it was all a dream".

Not going to rant because all has been said already, I did like seeing young Pinako though.
