I think maybe it was just a translation error on the subber's part. We know Winry is in love with Ed certainly. Perhaps we should wait and see what the official translation will say?

When Winry was admitting she loved Ed they subbed it as "I was in love" ( in love that is a past tense...)shouldn't it have been more along the lines of the manga, something similar to "Maybe I've been in love with him from a long time ago"

I agree with Kyelinn. That's most likely the translation error on the fansub.
(See, because of the case like that, I recommended you to wait for the official sub that comes on Thursday, else you would risk watching some fansub with some translation errors. tongue.gif )
Radadinator
Just watched the subbed version.

Favorite parts:

- New music at the beginning. I still love FMA 1's OST better, but Brotherhood's music is growing on me.
- Ling's flashy entrance.
- The way Mei drew the circle with her foot.
- Xiao Mei's food chain.
- Ed's NEW clothes. Take that, Inuyasha.
- Bradley walking towards the dog with the arm. I dunno, it just looked cool.
- Gluttony's stomach opening. It was all WHOOSH.

So overall, I really liked this episode. The budget for this series is still going all over the place, which sucks. The last three episodes have been awesome, though. My real test for Brotherhood is the next arc, and if they screw up royally on that, I will never forgive...I will take a very long time to forgive Bones.

Edit: Ran Fan being treated at Dr. Knox's reminded me of the labor process in historical Korean dramas. See, back then, women used ropes to pull themselves forward in order the force the baby out, and they had the same cloths in their mouths like Ran Fan did, and well...I got the same painful feeling from both of them. i would always have imagined the last two episodes as super hectic. in the manga there's such a dramatic vibe that seems to get through to you. in the anime it just seemed slow

Maybe I'm mistaking things, but I think I've read an interview with him where he said that he wanted to make it less dark and more humourous.

Well, it is less dark huh.gif More gore doesn't make it darker in my opinion, but the optimism of the characters, the way they still keep to their convictions, how they evolve toward more positive thoughts (look at May for example, the simple fact that there is someone caring and worrying for Scar makes him somehow a lot less dark), all this makes it "lighter".

Well, I'm pretty sure that the series will get darker just like the manga - the whole Xerxes story, Winry being taken by military, civil war, Ed facing the Turth. Though I think that both anime and manga won't loose some amount of humour and hope.

Lovely episode, as always. I don't really know what else to say about it, other than that I enjoyed it. biggrin.gif

I have to go with the romance discussion and agree with Dearheart and Forsaken love. It is not necessary, but it does give some more depth in the characters.

I also prefer a 'quiet' type of romance. No blushing, bubbles or butterflies- there's just some small acts and thoughts that give it away. You just don't go and glomp the person and be done with it, but you just let it develop slowly, in time. There's no physical way of showing it, but the atmosphere still gives you the feeling that it's still there.

That's what makes EdWin so nice in FMA. biggrin.gif

I am like two weeks behind on the episodes. But I really liked the song at the beginning that was playing. I want the soundtrack to Brotherhood to come out now. I loved the part where Winry's customers were calling her on the phone and begging her to come back. Then the part where Ed promises not to make her cry tears of sadness.

Why is it though that everyone in FMA can lose a limb, get shot, or bleed profusely and still be able to walk and fight like nothing has happened? I know that adrenaline is a powerful thing, but does it really keep a person going?

Okay. NO complaints on this episode whatsoever. Maybe small little ones in regard to May Chang.

Firstly, my draw dropped several times. Because I could of sworn I was listening to Aaron. I mean..wow.
I cringed when Lanfan cried out in pain when Knox was working on her. KUDOS to her voice actress.

D'awwww Winry has the hots for Edo.
Jen_Elric
The episode was very well done! May's voice still has to grow on me though. I LOVE the "food chain" thing with Shao mei!

I agree about Lanfan's VA! She was fantastic during that scene!
Tombow
^ Ditto on Lanfan's VA. I was impressed with her VAing in this episode. ^^

I'm still getting used to Ling's voice and Mei's voice, but overall I enjoyed watching this episode in dub. smile.gif

Elle-chan
Better than Last weeks for sure. Last weeks was kinda failiure=(

Ling and Mei's voices are not how i pictured them.

I think the problem with getting used to Lings voice is that we were graced with the presense of Miyano Mamoru. And then we get this Todd Haberkorn guy.
I'm used to ling now though. I actually think he's improving.
And
We don't really have to worry about hearing Ling so much anymore. It'll be Greed in 4 episodes anyways. And I really like Greed's VA.
JackDawkins
I planned to watch a full episode of Brotherhood dubbed properly all the way through without muting it when a voice I cringe at came on, without flipping back and forth between it and Doctor Who, without leaving the room momentarily cause I really don't care that much....I was gonna watch it all the way through the right way. But of course the power had to go out halfway through the episode.

Luckily was able to catch it again at 4 and after all this effort I expended rolleyes.gif I'm gonna have a lot to say.

- They haven't fixed the OP credits yet?

- Wish we could've seen Ed put the coat on Winry dry.gif

- I still LIKE Scar's voice. I don't think he's so quite anymore and the first time I heard him I still thought I really liked it. Peer pressure made me retract my opinion somewhat but now I think it's safe to say I like him again. Honestly it's because he sounds a lot like how Scar sounds in my head. Not exactly, but alarmingly close

- Maxey is still doing really great as Alphonse. Sounds so much like Aaron sometimes. biggrin.gif Still think occasionally when he gets excited he sounds like a girl. But this episode had my favorite line from Al of all time happy.gif

- Didn't like how Ling's VA sounded when he was telling Hawkeye to go back for LanFan, but I'm biased since Mamoru Miyano is my favorite VA in the Japanese. LanFan was great before though.

- What do you mean it's a panda bear Ed? You're all supposed to think it's a cat!

- I loved that Bradley said Winry was a "Nice, honest girl" cause of how that will come into play later wink.gif

-First time I've heard Garfeil's voice dubbed. Sounds good. This is where the power went out sleep.gif

- Was surprised by how much of that sentence you could hear over the train starting up. Wonder how distinguishable it was in the Japanese....Kinda disliked that Ed said "I hope the next time" cause it was funnier/sweeter when he demanded it xD Next time you WILL - at least that's how it was in the manga translation.

- I wish she'd said the L word instead of just falling for sad.gif

- LanFan's VA continues to be awesome. That scream was perfect.

- And we begin to enter a new arc....Hate how they cut Winry out of the ED

Don't have much else to say. Overall it wasn't a bad dub episode.
Mysteria
I watched it last night, at around 11, XD.

One that surprised me and I had never heard before was Mei's voice. I was like, "O.o. That just plain doesn't sound right." So.. I don't like the actress's voice, XD. Everyone sounds fine, biggrin.gif
Animeoldtimer
I like Ling's voice better now than I did when I first heard it. I like this dub the best so far. I'm getting used to May's voice as well. I thought Vic did a nice job during the train scene.
Elle-chan
I think the first series dubbed was the best so far. From what I'm watching.

Mei's voice is kinda annoying. It sounds like she would be 7-8 though she's actually like 13-14 ish.
BirdieNumNum
Lan Fan's VA hasn't had a lot to do so far, but she really impressed me in this episode. I could really feel her pain when she was screaming.

Ling's VA is growing on me more and more. I wasn't sure what to make of it at first, but that might have just been because I was used to his Japanese voice.

I'm not so keen on May's voice though. It sounds like her VA is trying too hard to put on a cutesy voice but I find it really grating. I hope she tones it down a bit in later episodes.
Hagaren_4ever
I actually think that Mei's voice actress sounds kinda like the Japanese version. Ya know, pitch-wise. Still getting used to it though. (I wish she would have more lines! >_<)

Lanfan was spectacular. Nothing new to note on that.

A minor complaint: Ed called Xiao Mei a "panda bear". WHAT.

I actually like Todd Haberkorn's Ling. Even compared to his Japanese counterpart. Although I do prefer the Japanese voice, I think that Haberkorn is getting on just fine.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to this upcoming arc. Really, one of my favorite story arcs in the whole series.

I KNOW. Way to miss the point guys.

^Maybe FUNimation saw all the people on the youtube videos complaining about everyone calling it a cat. I go look at the comments on there every now and then to see what people are saying. And that's one of the biggest ones. They don't understand the cat joke.

WHAT??!! HE DID? The blasphemy of it all. I thought they didn't know what a panda bear was! XD

That's just crazy. Change it back, FUNimation, NAOWZ!!!!

Yeah, so I really enjoyed the dub of the first anime, but I'm not so thrilled this time around. sleep.gif It's been all-around OK, but just OK.

Dislike: Ling's voice, May's voice (I cringe at both, but especially May's...) and although they were small parts, Elicia and Nina were/are both horrendous. >_<

As for the translations, I am pretty disappointed in the train scene. Funimation made both Ed's and Winry's pivotal lines sound like "maybes" as opposed to certainties and declarations.

In Ed's case, it really changes the feel of the line to use the words "I hope" instead of "I swear." And in Winry's case, she says something like "all this time, could it be I've been falling for him?" when it should be more along the lines of "Ah, I see, I've fallen in love with him." A much more clear-cut situation.

Funi's version just made it sound more wishy-washy. And being a professional writer myself, I find it especially grating. I know they need to match the mouth flaps and such, but still, a lot of this dub has felt very wooden and awkward to me. *grumbles*
JackDawkins
^Mm, I was really disappointed in those changes. Ed's "I hope" just takes all the strength out of his statement. He still said "You can count on it!" at the end, or something like that, but first saying "I hope the next time you cry!" and yelling that? It doesn't make sense and loses all the impact. There was also no good reason to change it that I see. "I hope" and "I swear" in that space would still match the mouth flaps.

My little (seriously Royai-influenced) review(I typed it as I watched the series because I was bored and not paying attention. XD):

-Royai scene:
"Blah blah order."
"Right."
"Blah blah!"
"K. -pause- Blah Blah."
"All right."
*door shuts, long pause*

"And sir Please stay out of the field."
"*laugh laugh* I know Lieutenant, now go. =)"
Travis Willingham and Colleen Clinkenbeard have these two down pat(in my opinion). XD

-"That woman driving. I'm sure she's Mustangs' woman."
Silly Bradley. Of course Hawkeye is Mustangs' woman. ^^

-Mei Chen's voice is irritating, especially this episode. Renge from OHSHC. >_<

-They are SUPPOSED to cal Shao Mei a CAT. "NOT THE TIME TO PICK UP PANDA BEARS, AL." ERG. You aren't supposed to know what a Panda bear is.

-MAXEY WHITEHEAD DID THE MOST AMAZING LINE. She NAILED, N.A.I.L.E.D the "It's alright, you're safe now." Line. I was stunned, SO CUTE! =3 I was more impressed with her there than I have ever been with her as Al's VA.

And now you know what I think like when I'm sleepy. XD

For anyone who missed this episode, it's on again on Adult Swim (U.S.) tonight. smile.gif
