DENNY AND MARIA ARE FINALLY TOGETHER AGAIN.
I was so mad when the scene switched to Olivia, Izumi and group though.
I hope we see more of the Denny/Maria reunion next chapter. I WANT ROMANCE!

So Chapter 98 is upon us and the anticipation built up by chapter 97 is rewarded and then some. It's great to see Wrath and Ling/Greed facing off once more. I think it's fairly obvious that Greed's the one to put your money on in this fight, just for the sake of ending his and Wrath's long-standing grudge with each other. Who could've predicted this is where it would end up waaaaaaay back in Chapter 29 when they first fought? Nice to see Fu turn up to aide his prince and, more importantly, get revenge for his granddaughter's severed arm. Was nice to see because a. I'd actually forgotten slightly about that and b. it means that the second opening to Brotherhood is no longer a big fat liar.
Away from the awesomeness of Greed VS Wrath, we have Olivier and Izumi proving themselves to be two of the most badass women in history, not that that was at all debateable. Kinda wish Lust was still around just to see her face off against these two but ah well, I'll settle for them beating the ever loving crap out of a poor old man instead. Okay a poor old man who was planning the mass genocide of his people but still, I kinda felt sorry for him.
Can't help but notice that the arrival of central's troops is forcing Izumi down into the underground as well, leaving just Alphonse. No doubt this means he'll be turning up very soon as well then.
Good to see that even as the world falls apart around them, Ed and Mustang STILL don't get along. Biscuit's sake, Hawkeye and Scar get on better than they do!
Wonder what's become and May and the Chimera...
Great ending, I wondered if that creepy doctor would end up being significant, seeings as he has such a creepy [All hail lord Xenu] character design and has appeared at least twice. Guess he, like everyone else, has a much larger role in everything that's going on than anticipated, and we'll discoever what that is in a month's time.

I just hope they could finally find Bradley's weak spot. He seems invincible.
Regarding that, I've always speculated that Bradley's weak spot is that he cannot regenerate like the other Homunculi. My reason for this is in Chapter 53, Bradley tells Mustang that after his transformation into an Homunculus, there was only one soul in his body (a soul which he debates is his own or one from the stone). Now I don't know if it was ever confirmed, but I always figured that the number of regenerations that a Homunculus can make is linked to the number of souls in their stone. Once this number hits zero, they are unable to regenerate and fall apart. This is how I've always understood it, like I said it's not confirmed. Therefore, if Bradley only has one soul like a normal human being, to me his ability to regenerate should be voided. Seeing him escape the train instead of just letting himself get killed and regenerate would seem to back this up. Bradley's eye compensates for the fact he cannot regenerate himself. He can't afford to get injured, so his eye makes sure he cannot.
Of course this is all wild speculation, but that's what I think anyway...

I've just read the scanlation. Nice chapter but too short (they always seem too short for me). Greed vs Wrath is going to be an awesome fight. Also, great that Ed is back, it was annoying that there wasn't Ed in some previous chapters. And I'm wondering who this scientist is. Can't wait for the next one.
About regenerations - such advanced healing (like, for example, Greed regenerating his severed head) needs more energy than usual transmutation, and this is an energy of soul (Ed was using it in one of the chapters, calling himself a philosopher's stone made of one soul). Long life, regeneration that makes Homunculi almost immortal and extremely powerful alchemy comes from magical energy of souls imprisoed in the philosopher's stones. Wrath is only two souls (he can be only one, as he lives and he has the philosopher's stone) so his alchemical power is more limited than power of other Homunculi, but he is compensating it with his physical conditioning (which was probably achieved using alchemy).

A good theory, and I'm inclined to believe it, but isn't it just as likely that it would simply have taken Bradley longer to recover from something like an explosion and falling into a canyon, and that's why he avoided it, since he wanted to be back in time to regain a foothold?
And, I might add, simply letting himself get killed would still hurt like hell. Assuming the homunculi feel pain the way the rest of us do (which now tha tI think of it, probably isn't the case). Er, maybe because he has a human body he feels pain? He does say he feels his age.

Hmm....after reading the scanlation, I am under the distinct impression that two things will happen :
- The group underground of Roy, Riza, Ed, and Scar, the fact that Riza is there makes me think there may be a possibility for "Royai" fans to get happy or really really sad. I would be surprised if there were no Royai moment.
- Greed/Ling's fight. I think that once RanFan gets involved in the fight, the dynamic will change for Greed/Ling. He is greedy, and there are clear feelings between those two.
Besides that, I wonder how Father and Hoho are doing? I want to see that!

The end of the chapter certainly was a surprise for me. I was not expecting creepy gold tooth scientist guy to show up. I really wonder if he is immortal. This is just a crack pot theory of mine. In chapter 74 when we first start to find out about Hohenheim he talked to the homunculus in the flask, and the homunculus commented about how blood had been drawn from Hohenheim's arm. I wonder if the scientist guy was the one who drew the blood, or at least used it for some experiment.
I still have so many questions that I want answered. Here goes another month of waiting.

Huh, that's a really interesting theory, and it would make Pride even more creepy than he already is.
Well, back to the weird scientist, anyone think maybe he's the one who's supposed to activate the big transmutation circle?

Hmm... Scar's going lone wolf again. Not that he ever really wasn't, but he seems to be shutting peole out more than he has been lately. (You know, Mei, Yoki, Ed... people who've heard his story.) It was nice to see him talk civilly with Riza, though. I feel like, under different circumstances, they'd actually get along quite well.
Both Scar and Riza have the same kind of no-non-sense personality (if you don't count Scar's love of everything cute, that is actually rarely showcased), so yeah it would seem that they would get along pretty well

Riza even obeyed his instructions directly when she met the zombies
I don't think that Scar is shutting himself even further right now, the way he scolded May Chang shows that he cares for people, something that was hard to see before. Right now, he is surrounded by a boy that dislikes him, and two former killer of Ishbalans (and among them, one that acts all cocky and arrogant. The second one is better tough), so sure he would not really open up.
And I don't think that Ed ever heard Scar's complete story. Heck, I don't think that anybody apart from his master knows that his right arm isn't actually "his" arm, but his brother's.

Well to be fair, Wrath's flash backs were at least 30/40 years ago, I'd be amazed if he hadn't aged.
Regarding Pride, find the theory he's jumped into another body to be very intriguing. Would explain why we haven't seen a mark on Selim yet, but it seems like a bit of a shame to me if he did do that. I dont know why, I just think Pride is so much more badass when he's a kid.

Not really, IMHO Father will do that as the mastermind behind it all. The circle is probably constructed in the way that would make him the only survivor.

Wow, what a chapter.
If Arakawa doesn't pick up with the freaky scientist next month, I think I'll die waiting LOL I'm sooo excited that we're reaching the climax, and I'm dying to find out what is up with that guy. I mean, he seems totally fine that a serial killer, two alchemists, and a sharp-shooter are coming towards him, all armed in their different ways and more than ready to kick his old @$$. Yet he seems completely confident and unphased as they approach...what is with that? He's either got some sort of immortality (whether it be the Pride theory from amestris star or a Philosopher's Stone) or there's someone else there (could be Pride!) lurking in the shadows, ready to back him up...
And what is his purpose? We really don't know what he's capable of, with or without a philosopher's stone or whatever he might have.
Izumi and Olivia are so freaking bad@$$ that I can't help but gawk and then laugh and then begin cheering them on. The two of them working together is overwhelmingly epic...
And the fight was cool; I can't wait to see more, although I'm not ready to lose either one of those characters...what is Arakawa planning here (I don't think it's their time, so is something going to happen to Ran Fan or Fuu...?) I hate anyone dying or getting hurt...it'll be an awesome fight, though!
And poor Bucaneer LOL he's got it bad right now.

Sannom--(Responding in order of the points you made) Riza seems to like cute things well enough, as long as they're functional. She's got Hayate, after all, right?

It's just funny to see Scar react to anything cute. I will never forget him meeting Xiao Mei. Oh, the expression was just priceless!
Yeah, Ed, Riza, and Roy aren't exactly his best buddies, and he's not a man of many words to begin with. It just seemed to me that he's even more quiet than usual, even with the few panels he's in. I was putting my opinion in there without saying so. Oops!
Ah, I should've expounded when I talked about Scar's story. I was actually referring to Ishbal in general, and I really should have said that. I don't know why I didn't. *is perplexed* Sorry 'bout that.

And is Selim just Pride's "flask" or is Pride really Selim? If Selim is just Pride's "flask", I feel sorry for the little boy who received him (Selim) seeing as what (human)Wrath had to go through. How many little kids did they have to sacrifice ?! 0.o

@Backfired:
Well, considering the fact that Pride doesn't age and Wrath does, I think it's safe to assume that they were created in two different ways, so I'm guessing that they didn't inject regular boys with Father's Pride to create him.... But y'know, I dunno for sure. We never did learn any other way to create a homunculus, did we?
And that scientist/doctor guy! My first reaction was, "Isn't he DEAD yet?!?" I remembered him looking really, really old in flashback. XD I'm glad I was mistaken.

The first time I read it, I had NO idea who the scientist was, but he looked very familiar to me. I asked a friend about it and when she told me it all made sense. It's just like Arakawa to never leave those characters who may seem to not have anything to do with the plot, or anything with the major characters, and then string them in when it's least expected.

Gah. I was late reading this (and I still need to catch up on the new anime) due to holidays.
Anyway, I enjoyed it.
Wrath v Greed is cool. Wrath is kicking [All hail lord Xenu] (will that be censored? I meant bottom, anyway) generally. Plus it kind of finally explained his power properly. Fu was awesome (although Ranfan's arm isn't the best vengeance motivator). Everything with Olivia and Izumi was goodness. And the touchingness and then comic relief with the Denny and Maria reunion is classic FMA.
Had no idea who Goldie was till I read this topic though. So that was a bit weird. I saw people mention he was in other chapters as well as the Fuhrer backstory one...What were the details on that? Like what chapters and pages? (and sorry if I missed someone explaining it)

Since there is no actual preview nor summary etc. yet, I'm temporarily closing this so that we are not going to get possibly several pages of "is chapter 99 here yet?" posts.
As usual, anyone with some actual preview pics or sample scans, summary, etc. for the new chapter, please kindly open a new thread and share that info with us. And then, we'll commence the discussions for the new chapter. ^^ (For this month, I may then rearrange the two threads. But for the future, please hold off opening the thread "prematurely." XD )
Till then, if you have discussions on the possible chapter contents as the extension of last chapter's storyline, then you can discuss that on
last month's chapter discussion thread.
(But, if only have "is chapter 99 here yet?" post, then please hold off posting that one.)

Also, a note, since I'm making a post... I'm still having a slow/bad Web connection problem. I'm going to borrow my friend's laptop with a better connection so that I can post some translations when the new chapter (or previews, etc) arrives, but even then that would be probably slower than usual, and most likely you have to wait for translations by others, quite likely from our friend,
HisshouBuraiKen, or some others to kindly post his/her chapter translations. Just letting you know, and yeah, sorry about that.
