Have to agree with what's being said about Greed just legging it like he forgot to turn the oven off or something. It did make his character seem alot weaker. I'm a bit surprised by how they've handled these past two episodes to be honest. It seemed like changes for changes sake. I mean I can get to grips with them not being 100% faithful to the Manga (Cutting the Youswell chapter was perfectly reasonable to me) but changing around things like they did here with Izumi's arrival just sort of left me a bit confused.

That being said, the episode made up for that oddity in my mind with the action in this episode. It's nice to see Bradley showing off his skills. There was also something oddly awesome about seeing Dorchet get sliced in half like that. Bit confused as to why they heavily hint that Loa had his head sliced into four parts when five seconds later you see him lying face down, head very much in tact. Unless when you turned him over he looked like a hot cross bun.

Good to see Father as well, thought not exactly 100% sure about his voice here. I mean it's good for him, I'm just debating if that voice will work on Hohenheim as well. That being said, it has to be the same or ya know, it's giving the game away a bit. On the other hand, Selim's voice I liked. It's gonna make him sooooo much creepier later on

Next week's episode looks good, if not again having a rather odd choice made. Lin's introduction, along with Lan Fan and Fuu is something I've been eagerly anticipating. Same goes for the stuff involving Hawkeye. Bit surprised to see Scar in this episode to be honest... especially seeings as Scar's supposed to be laying low at this point... interesting to see where they go with this...

In the manga, Greed gets out of there because the military came in, but in episode 14 it looks like he's too afraid to take on Ed and Izumi. This makes Greed seem weak, on top of his easy beating in the previous episode.

I thought there was no doubt about this : Greed IS weak laugh.gif Against skilled people like Ed, Izumi or Bradley, he doesn't stand a chance. All he has for him is the shield and the regeneration, and frankly we know this is not enough.

Greed is not weak. He underestimated Ed. In a protracted battle, he still would have won, because Ed was in rough shape and Greed still has several lives to use if necessary. In the manga, Izumi was no match for him at all, and he left the battle with Ed when the military barged in, because it was too inconvenient to stay and take on several opponents at once. Hell, in the first anime (if we're counting that at all), he was able to handle both Ed and Izumi at once, and only eventually lost to Ed because Dante trapped him and he refused to back down.

He lost to Bradley because Wrath is one of the tougher homunculi and happens to have the right skill set to beat him. I bet Greed could beat Lust, maybe even Envy.

100% agree^ Greed is NOT a weak character
Hagaren_4ever
Really? 'Cause, Greed seems weak to me. *shot*
Forsaken Love
*shoots you* Greed it totally badass ¬_¬
Jealous Rogo
Greed definately isn't a weak character, he just under-estimates people all the time. First he under-estimated Ed, and then more crucially, he under-estimated Bradley. He saw a sixty year old man and clearly didn't think that he was any real threat to him. If he'd actually been on his toes, the outcome of the battle may have been different. Probably wouldn't have but then again nothing's impossible

That being said, I don't think we can really count his battle with Izumi as a win in the manga... he just stood there and let her punch him a couple of times. He couldn't have put less effort into that if he had been reading a magazine at the same time.

so who likes the thicker plot line with Hoenhim being evil I like that alot better then the thing with Dante its so good!!

It isn't Hohenheim who's the villain. It's Father, a homunculus who only LOOKS like Hohenheim.

Hope that helps. biggrin.gif

Spoilers never help sleep.gif NEVER! Cover that as soon as you come back here!

^^

... what? O.o'
Sannom
The simple fact that you say that Hohenheim isn't the master of the Homonculus when people who hasn't read the manga apparently think that he is the master of the Homonculus is a BIG spoiler, so cover it dry.gif
Sal_san
... oh. O.o' Sorry, didn't notice that.

Done.

Please add FMA:B English dubbed episode 14 (on CN on Adult Swim) talk-back/discussions here. smile.gif

Animation-wise, this episode did not disappoint.

Neither did the voice-acting. Greed was as repulsive and maniacal as ever, and even Bradley showed improvement, he wasn't as dry in the first anime.

I thought Maxey knocked this one out of the park with her voice. I'm sorry I ever doubted her. Overall I think this is one of the better episodes of the batch so far.

BUT GRAH, I WANTED TO HEAR LIN AND MEI'S VOICES D= DAMN YOU TEASER PREVIEWS
Vlyse
Interesting that this episode got a MA-rating. No surprise, though, with Dolcetto and Roa getting dismembered. Have any of the other episodes got that so far?

I love Ed Blaylock as Bradley, so this dubbed episode was really enjoyable for me. Father sounded so different from what I expected, but I think it sounds more serious so I prefer it.

And oh no. Every time I hear Selim, I'm going to hear Black Star, who is overly arrogant and Naruto-ish sounding. sad.gif

And so dub-only viewers will commence the complaints about Greed's time in the series rushed/short for the 14 episodes he's dead.

YES, Father's voice was different than I expected.

I did like Father's voice more than I thought I would.

But the standout to me in this episode was Chris Patton. His performance as Greed was being lowered into the boiling oil was just a pure, insane, delight.

Flamez_Freak
i prefer the va for father in the japanese version.....father should sound boring , coz he is emotionless....and the japanese dude is boring to the core.......but the english va is worth a mention too.......

yuuichi nakamura was better than chris patton too....chris patton is good , but nakamura is great.....

I forgot how bloody this episode was O_o
The animation is good as ever.
SO, the two noteworthy things about this episode I noticed were
1. Adult Swim put the commercial break later than usual.
2. The preview was before the credits

I understand the important-ness of the 2nd point. Because they figured alot of people don't watch the credits, and they wanted to say YO CHECK THIS OUT IT'S ALL DIF NOW LULUL

Anyways, this is a great episode.
I'll add DUB comments in the appropriate topic.

I still get annoyed at how they sped through this story arc, especially with Bradley and Armstrong just appearing out of nowhere, suddenly knowing about Greed being at the Devil's Nest.

I dislike Ed Blaylock's Bradley. It lacks that deep commanding quality the Japanese voice has. And Chris Patton's Greed isn't great, either, but at least it's better than from the first series, where it sounded like he wasn't even trying.

I'm not sure what to make of Father's voice. It's interesting that it's the narrator, like in the Japanee version, but as for the voice itself, I'm not sure.

That's funny, because I used to think the same thing, but now I think he's really gotten the hang of it in this episode.

Am I the only one that thought the whole "You can pierce me with your ultimate spear anytime" line was a little.... creepy? I mean, they're brother and sister. 0.o

Not really surprised about the MA-rating. I mean, this is FMA. The show's plot revolves around two kids going through horrible mind rape and dismemberment. But I'm expecting more MA-ratings down the road.

Imo, Maxey's the best one in the dub. I always thought that Aaron's voice was great, but just a little bland and monotone. So Maxey takes that voice and adds more emotion. Awesome.

Is Selim's VA the same one as the previous series?
Bag of Magic Food
Nah, that was Zarah Little.
Dearheart
Gee whiz, this was an awesome dub. It's like I'm experiencing a whole different Brotherhood and I'm loving it! I'm feeling so much more emotion in everything this time around. It's amazing what hearing things in your own language can do...

Surprisingly, I'm finding that I prefer the English VA for Father. The Japanese one just sounds very...flat. Flat, generic and boring. And almost too old for me. He almost sounds like a Japanese Moses, lol.

I like his English voice better because it has more warmth and color in it. It sounds more "fatherly" and it has this lull to it that just pulls me in...which I love, because it makes the whole "family" thing he has going on feel even more twisted and dysfunctional to me. If that makes sense. xD The more human he sounds, the more deceiving he is, and that's awesome for a villian.

Vic was great, as always. (He may sound too old for Ed on occasion, but IMO he's always very good at making his lines sound natural and authentic.) And holy moley, Maxey is totally knocking it out of the park with Al! I like her twice as much as I did Aaron, and that's saying a lot. She's really nailing this! The whole scene with Martel was just...wow.

Did anyone else shiver at Greed's insane screams during the "bath" scene? Or choke up at the mention of Hughes? *sniffle*

Selim...D'AWWW you adorable, evil, awful little twirp, you...why must you sound SO DARN CUTE?

WE GET TO HEAR LING AND MAY AND EVERYONE NEXT WEEK YAAAYYYY!!! *happy dance*

I totally agree with that! Although I have great respect for the Japanese cast, I feel the emotions more when I'm not reading subtitles. This episode was great in japanese, and I really enjoyed it in english too! I can see why it's rated MA though... O_o

Al must be a strong kid to stand that kind of violence happening in front of him... loved Maxey as Al of course. There was hesitancy about her at first, but now I agree when people says she's getting better than Aaron.

I've always liked King Bradley voice. It's seems soft but there's a hidden threat in there that comes out easily in controlled anger. Dorochete's (or is it Dolcetto now?) voice was easy and natural, so he deserves some credit too.

And Holy crap, Greed's oil scene was epic! Loved the animation and especially loved his voice! I think I watched it half a dozen times... laugh.gif I liked Father's new voice too, since to me it sounded more like Hohenheim than the japanese version.

Next episode we get to hear the Xingese gang! *SQUEEE!!!*

^That's why I'm in love with Wrath's English VA. Because he comes off as smooth with this hint of absolute rage. It's freaking perfect.

Noticed something interesting.
When Mrs. Bradley mentions for the Fuhrer to retire. In the Japanese version he gets an armstrong sparkle as he says "I'm not THAT old"
But in the English airing. There was not sparkle. I'll post pics if I can find them.
Bag of Magic Food
Hey, how come the credits listed the Japanese voices for Dr. Knocs and Dr. Marcoh, who weren't in the episode, but not for Lust and Envy?
Bag of Magic Food
Watching this episode again, it bugs me how quiet the shadowy figures are in the dub the whole time at the beginning of the episode when they gossip about Roy Mustang. At first I thought this was just because I was used to subtitles making everything clear, but I checked the Japanese version, and the important sentences were easy to hear, while in English you have to turn the sound waaayyyyy up to catch anything.

I think there was only one change to the picture this time, and I don't think I was the first to notice it, but I did take screencaps!

Originally when King Bradley told his family he wasn't ready to retire, a spark ran up his face and turned into a single Armstrong sparkle, but now it doesn't appear at all.

Since this doesn't involve text in any way, I'm guessing some anime director just didn't think the effect looked quite right.
deet-tastic
I noticed the absent sparkle my first time watching 14. I loved the sparkle. Gave Wrath a kind of.. sense of humor. Even though the lines are pretty much the same, it changed the atmosphere of it.
