lol, i haven't reviewed an episode for ages XD

I enjoyed it! and...While i was watching i hardly noticed which scenes had been cut (until after the episode when i was lurking during the episode discussion....i'm such a bad FMA fan) XD. Except perhaps for Izumi coming before Ed rather than after XD. I was so glad to see her in that sexy black dress! Man, She's just awesome! *w*

I loved Greed's Seiyuu in the first series but having said that, i also like the new seiyuu as well! I like them both >w< They both make Greed sound so....irresistible. lol anyway...

I loved the Ed vs Greed fight! I was jumping in my seat XDThe animation was fluid and well animated. It was just...awesome!

I was also happy that there was no censoring. I was worried about that XD

I felt the pacing was a little rushed at the end but other than that, it was fine for me ^___^

Considering this episode covers roughly..4 chapters, it was safe to assume that scenes will be cut. I was expecting it before i watched the episode. So that's probably why I'm not so disappointed XD, Though i was a little sad at what had to be cut...there was some great stuff that wasn't shown this episode that wasn't touched upon in the first anime like Ed's awesome stop at southern headquarters XD One of my favorite parts!. Ah, well...I shouldn't cry over spilled milk XD, besides thinking of episode 15 has be pumped! Ling, Ranfan, Mei and Mr Garfield (love the guy lol) Goodness Yay!!

I look forward to the next episode!! The animation looks really good ^w^

I'll return to lurking now XD. Oh and sorry about my reviews being so all over the place lol XD

Scar's convo with his master just seemed better.

And the guy has white hair happy.gif I never understood how Arakawa could have done that mistake huh.gif Or she hadn't yet decided to give white air to all the Ishbals.

QUOTE ("Forsaken Love")
Greed seems very 2 dimensional to me in that episode

The guy wants everything in the world and don't want to let go of anything unless it's immaterial and he can share it without losing it. Of course he is two-dimensional laugh.gif Remember : Anime!Greed is cool and a little bit human. Manga!Greed and of course Brotherhood!Greed are just directed by their greed, nothing else.

And yet Manga!Greed showed that he cared about his Chimera. Although he said he only cared about them because they belonged to him. You have to read between the lines. And Greed's attitude to what happened to the Chimera showed he viewed them more than just possessions.
Forsaken Love
and Greed consoling Al on his 'loss' a pure evil guy wouldnt do that! And there were lots of good characterization points that were skipped. Greed is not a evil character, hes an anti-hero i spose, and due to the skipped scenes I think he was shown more to be a 2 dimensional baddy rather than the more complex character he really is, there is waaaaaaay more to him then just been Greedy.
Radadinator
Any character that wants to take over the world and is still freaking awesome deserves at least three episodes. Here's to hoping that Bones at least gives him a good death.

This series is kinda reminding me of Harry Potter movies right now, the books=pure awesomeness the films=how the heck can you understand and enjoy when so much plot and all humor is missed out? *sigh*

If you watch the movies for pure enjoyment. XD
Still, at least Prisoner of Azkaban had more characterization than any of the other movies, and was a pretty good adaptation.
Forsaken Love
I agree Greed did deserve at least 3 episodes. I think that the first season would have been done so much better if they speant 20eps on it rather than 15, the amount of extra manga stuff that could have been covered with 5more episodes would have been greaaaaaat, *sigh* I hope they gve him a good death too, but gah the amount of stuff they need to cover next episode to get to ling the episode after is a lot, so im not holding my breath but its a short scene anyway.

lol thats my favourite book but i thought the film was awful XD but goblet of fire is worse and order of the phoneix ridiculously bad, i think philosphers stone and chamber of secrets were by far the best, as barely any scenes were missed out, the actors fitted their roles and just seemed to do the books wayyyy more justice (lol eee im getting off topic forgive me!)

I think people are reading too much between the lines, in fact, or perhaps that they won't go far enough. Greed doesn't feel anything except greed. The chimeras are his possessions. He treats them well so that they would stay loyal to him and stay in his possession, and I don't see how this is different from the way you treat pets. There is nothing beyond that or me : pure and selfish greed.

And that's an error Lin made for me : he mistook Greed's care for his possessions for affection. Thought that he could push that button. But I think that he is now realizing that there is nothing he can do : Greed is only a Homonculus, he doesn't feel like a normal human. He is from a batch of Homonculus that showed physical deformations associated with a pure control by their sin (Greed, Envy, Sloth and Glutonny) and this won't change.
Vagrant
The homonculi have shown plenty of human traits and emotions. Gluttony was attached to Lust, we've seen Envy get angry before, Lust's somewhat voluntary death, etc.
Most of them may have personalities rooted in their titular sin, but they're capable of plenty more feelings. I don't see Greed being any different.

My memory may be hazy on it, but I don't see a problem with Greed having some compassion for his chimera friends.

yeah, but then why did he say he would console Al for his loss? Why did he try to sort things out peacefully instead of ripping him apart, if his Greed was consuming him that much surely he would have shown no amount of mercy no matter how small? Also in later Greeling chapters when he gets his memorys back why does he say he feels so lonley and empty despite having so many souls inside him? He's Greed so obviously he's driven by Greed but theres more to his character than just that by far, hence why he's an anti-hero and not just a bad guy

Crap on a stick. Forgot where I was. Corrected it. Thankfully no one who didn't read the manga should understand the basics of the post, so no damage done.

Greed is directed only by greed, but he does in fact prefer non-violent ways and certainly isn't impatient. He is a Homonculus after all, he has time. And he knows how to repress his sin so that Father and his minions would not hear about him. But at the core, that's what he is : greedy. He doesn't care about the chimeras as friends, just as pets. Every move he makes is to gain something. When people make deals with him, he is the one who proposes them, not the other way around. He is a bad guy, a bad guy you can deal with because he is extremely greedy, unlike the others who have goals beyond physical possession and some ideals they want to fulfill.
Radadinator
yeah, Greed always looked more like an anti-hero to me, which I guess is why I like him better than the other homunculi. And I think he did care about the chimeras, at least as pets. Maybe he didn't really consider them as friends until Ling made him go through the whole guilt trip thing.

Positive notes: I'm happy that Al got to be cool, even if it was cut down, because kicking the chimera in the nose was better than the two seconds' resistance he put up in the first anime.

I thought the first two movies sort of dragged on through the scenes after a while...I guess I just like loose adaptations and an overload of STYLE! throughout the whole thing. XD I agree that Order of Phoenix was horrible, though.

Greed sees his desire to have, to own everything is his version of affection towards those things. To him, desire to obtain and affection are the same thing, his allies belong to him, so he values them. He sees it the same way as if you felt affection towards a person.

My evidence is in chapter 84, when Greedling talks to Edward about how there are no "types" of greed, that Ed's desire to protect his friends is the same as his own desires, at least to him.

They took out the best line! When Al notices Izumi arriving, he says, "There's only one thing that I am afraid of. And speaking of that thing ... ... here it comes."
Kyelinn
I was a bit disappointed in this episode. I had hoped once they reached the Greed arc they would've slowed everything down but they didn't even follow the order of the manga and they cut so much stuff out! I mean it was still a good episode, I liked it but at the same time I was disappointed. I really hope come next episode they start slowing everything down. I understand that they have to get through all the stuff that's already been seen in the first anime, but jeeze. C'mon Bones. Don't let us down.

That line must've been in the first anime, because I don't remember anything like that at all in the manga.

I just looked it up. Not sure how to link the pages, but its in chapter 27 on pages 38-39

The translation I found is: " There's one thing I'm scared of" ....."Its here--the terror"

Oh, well my bad then laugh.gif It's here. Stupid memory.
RoyxRizaFan
I'm psyched and all for Xing, but I really wish they could just take a moment and have a breather...

Things they took out that I miss with a passion:
- The Al fight scene. Enough said.
- Izumi/Sig scenes w/ Devil's Nest peeps.

I know they have like no time. I don't mind the military scenes they cut, with Roy&Crew, but these are kind of annoying...couldn't they have just let Izumi come in next episode? IDK...

I did enjoy the first half of the show, and I liked the Ed/Greed fight scene (always loved that one). So I didn't hate it, but some of it bothered me.

OT: I'm totally excited about the Xing people, though! The screenshots are amazing. I think I will die of awesome when they show up. Hopefully things will take a more natural pace after that...
Tezrath
All I can say at this point is that they had bloody well better slow down!!!!.

This is just getting idiotic. I didn't mind so much with some of the earlier 'speed-ups' (like in Rush Valley, I mean I like Paninya, but she isn't exactly vital to the plot) But this last one got me fuming. I love the Izumi - Greed arc... and having them bulldoze through it put me on edge. This is also the arc where the plot from FMA1 and 2 takes a sharp detour, so for that alone I really didn't appreciate them messing with the pace and continuity... I still don't get why they put Izumi's entrance after Eds... it seemed like a really odd directoral change... and I really missed the original way that Izumi and Sig tore the place (and Greed's minions appart) biggrin.gif
Nikolye
I was slightly disappointed with this episode. I felt they shouldn't have cut so much out of it.

Now I'm wondering how Bradley is going to show up and how it's supposed to make sense...

I agree with what's been said. They need to slow down a little. It wouldn't hurt to split one episode into two and add more content.

You mean episode 13, not 11, right?

THEY SAID JEAN'S NAME WRONG AGAIN AUGH AUGH AUGH

I suddenly found a funny irony in Greed complaining about "ruining" the revelation of his identity as a homunculus, when in episode 45, it's GreedLing who comes right out and says it.
hawkflame
Was it Chris Patton again as Greed? Whether it was or not, I liked him in the role.

And Christine Auten was born to play Izumi.
Vlyse
All of the returning characters this episode came back with their original VAs, I believe.

Actually, according to Mike McFarland on the Mania forums:

QUOTE
Some cast info for Episode 13:

General Grumman - Bill Flynn

And, reprising their roles from the first series:

Greed - Christopher Patton
Martel - Tiffany Grant
Roa - John Gremillion
Dolcetto - John Burgmeier
Bido - Greg Ayres
Yoki - Barry Yandell
Scar's "Master" - Grant James
Kyelinn
This episode was great. Vic had it going on as usual. laugh.gif It cracked me up and I swear I love Izumi so much. She's gotta be one of my absolute favorite characters in this show/manga.
deet-tastic
Pretty good biggrin.gif I'd forgotten that Mustangs preperation to move to central was in this one, as well as our introduction to Yoki.

I'll discuss VA's in the va thread.
Bag of Magic Food
Um, and I just now noticed that I'm blocked from watching episode 13 on YouTube by Starz Media LLC, yet all the other episodes load just fine. Huh what?
deet-tastic
I am too? What the heck!
That's so weird.
penguintruth
I immediately remembered why this was my least favorite episode of this series. It sped through one of my favorite parts of the story, Greed's kidnapping of Alphonse, and it made Greed seem weaker. Then there's the character designs for Greed and the gang, seeming very awkward and balloonish at times. Ugh.

At least Chris Patton's Greed improved from the first series. It's still not great, but it's okay.

Well, I know Starz has the rights to the FullMetal Alchemist movie, so maybe someone misidentified it. Starz doesn't show Brotherhood anywhere, does it? If so, then maybe it could block YouTube episodes on a "what's showing this week" basis... Let's check this again next Saturday night.
Vlyse
The way I read on Funimation's Youtube channel comments' page made it sound like it's a problem with not just Brotherhood, but all of their videos.
deet-tastic
I'm not having a problem with anyother of the 53. (yeah, I really did just go through all 53)
13 is the only one I'm having a problem with.
Billea_the_Turtle
Christine Auten was born to play Izumi. Seriously. I also kinda like Chris Patton's Greed. Oh and Vic's Ed was great as usual.
Hagaren_4ever
The voice acting was good in the episode but the content was bleh. I'm getting spoiled with all these new episodes that actually STICK to the storyline, and I forgot what it was like pre-episode 15. It'll get back to normal soon though, so that's something to look forward to. And I think a person that hasn't read that manga would think that it was a good episode.

Also, is it just me, or did they call Marta/Martel "Mary"???
Vlyse
While it's not really significant, I noticed they changed a line in this episode when Scar tells one of the mercenaries he'll give them time to pray to God.

The original line on Funimation's subs was "W-what God? Who needs--"

But on the dub it was "You should be the one praying. Freak."

Kinda changes the idea a little bit that Amestrians don't really believe in God compared to Ishvalans' strong faith.
Bag of Magic Food
Maybe they think their American audience is frightened of atheism!
Mr. Deathy
^They had Mustang say lines such as "There's no such thing as God" (during the Pride fight) in the first anime. It'd be weird if they toned things down now for Brotherhood.
deet-tastic
I am a bit mad they left that line out. It's the reason Scar gets that look and explodes the guys brains.
Kasumisty
Oh God, this dub was hillarious. I liked it very much.

Some quotes and scenes I found funny:

Shig: You idiots! *Ed and Al flinching*

Al: What...is it something bad?
Izumi: No, it's more like AWFUL.
Ed: Yea, HORRIFYING~.

Greed: And that little runt you took down earlier tends to lift his leg when he pees.
Dorchetto: Only once!

Greed: See, I'm Greed. I want everything you can think of. Money and women, power and SEX(...)

Bido: (...)but first you tell me what your secret is. *getting beaten by Ed*

Greed: You don't need to eat, you don't need to sleep, you don't even need to use the TOILET!

And of course, Ed's RAEG monologue:
Ed: That's not it...SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH! AAAARGHH! SOUNDS GREAT TO YOU?! IT SEEMS PERFECT?! YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT, HELL HE'S GOT TO GO THROUGH STUCK WITH THAT BODY!1 And you wanna know how to transmute a soul?! YOU KIDNAPPED MY BROTHER AND YOU WANT TO TRADE SECRETS WITH ME?! I'M GONNA CRUSH YOU, CREEPS! I'M GONNA SMASH YOU! END YOU! AND I WON'T GIVE YOU something ANYTHING! In other words, there won't be an exchange with you! AAAARGHH! *objects*.

Izumi: You think it's funny not to put the broom away?!

Epic.

Such a direct episode tongue.gif

tl;dr. I rotfled hard.

Bag of Magic Food
Lol, you picked out all the dubbing moments that I wasn't sure whether to find funny or just awkward.
deet-tastic
I love the line she says after she finds the broom. The way she said "I'LL KILL THEM" (or something)
I've listened to it several times. It's so perfectly Izumi and awesome. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
Bag of Magic Food
Eastern Command Center is full of onscreen translations!

Hey wait a minute.

They remove a simple word balloon, but then they repaint an entire broken wall with a new word? (one that I keep misreading as "GRUEL")
Well, on second thought, the word balloon has the words fill in one at a time, and maybe they didn't want to fill it in not knowing what the dubbed line would be, since it's just an onscreen repeat of that line. (which was changed to "Dump her")

Later I caught a moment where the camera whooshes over from Greed to Edward, but in the Adult Swim video, it doesn't drift as far over to the right as in the original. I suppose this is since Greed's face didn't get that close to the edge of the screen, Ed's shouldn't either.

But I guess you'll have to watch the episode yourself to prove that we don't get to see the back of Ed's hair anymore.
