Riza may not be important, but she's definitely an important person to Roy so they might plan to use her as well, just like Winry was used as a hostage earlier. Though I really hope Arakawa isn't planning to do this...

I would like to point out that Ed transmuted himself to open the Doors. He was going on about "transmuting iron into iron is a transmutation blah blah so transmuting a still living human blah blah is a human transmutation as well". Or something. I'm too lazy to check my vol. 13 (which is located a meter to the right from where I'm currently sitting.... >.< It's 11 p.m. here.)

And having Roy open the gate at this point... that needs pretty much work whether someone (i.e. Riza) dies or not.

The Checklist to Opening the Gate
- 1 passage fee
* you may use
= a philosopher's stone (note that even the ones inside homunculi work)
= limbs
= iternal organs
> for the last 2 you can at least theoretically use someone else, if you're feeling evil
- 1 transmutation circle
* you may use
= a traditional, extremely elaborated one (like the one Elric Bros. used) (note that this one takes a lot of time to draw)
= more simplistic (the one used in vol 13. by Ed)
- 1 person to be transmuted (note that a philosopher's stone is the most recommended passage fee in all cases)
* you may use
= yourself
= someone else

Also pretty much explains why there aren't enough human sacrifices who have seen the Truth.

All this speculating gets me thinking...because it is waaaaaay too cliche, as everyone said, for Arakawa to do that Roy transmutation thing. Arakawa is made of too much epic win for that.

Going off of the theory about Wrath changing his mind, I suppose he could take Father's orders (from chapter 40) to deal with Mustang and consider/try to kill her and then change his mind (because of his discussion with Riza about his wife or whatever)

Thanks to everyone's who's been explaining the transmutations and Father's plan! Yeah, I'm pretty sure the dead civilians from the riots make up the actual circle, along with Sloth's tunnel, and then to open the gate he's sacrificing alchemists or something like that.

Arakawa usually does the thing that people least suspect or at least I never suspect what she is really up to. She also tends to not do things for the sake of angst. Anyways I have complete faith in her. It's been 95 chapters and she has never let me down.

@DistantBlue: I think the possibility of Roy opening the gate due to Riza's death is greatly reduced after the confrontation with Envy. I feel Roy have gained more strength to defend himself from his enemy's manipulation. If Riza is sacrificed, which I hate that would happen, I think Roy will be able to resist the temptation to open the gate, as long as Ed and co. are with him.

One more thing, we are talking about Riza. She is not the same as any other woman. She is one of the elites in the military. Not so easy to kill her.

Again, Riza please please please don't die. No one will know what Roy will become without her.

To me, the characters with death flags are Hohenheim, the remaining homunuculi (except maybe Greed, if he learns to completly coexist with Ling), Scar (though I feel like, if Arakawa intended to kill him, she would have already done it by now), and perhaps Izumi.

Riza totally doesn't show up on my death radar at all. Given recent events, if she died now, it would waste Roy's character development.

The thing about Roy opening the doors for Riza well the thing is while Riza is very important to Roy she is not the only thing important to him. In fact all of his subordinates are important.

Also Bradley mentioned Roy's kindness as his weakness & strength, and he will get him to open the doors because of this kindness. In many ways this actually does not correlate to Riza being the cause. I am pretty sure Roy does not only care about Riza out of kindness. So if Bradley does get Roy to open the doors I think he will somehow manipulate Roy's kindness. In what way I don't know but I just want to put it out there.

Hmm... your point leads me to think that Roy may be opening the gate for the Elrics. He did care a lot of those kids.

That would be so sad! lol

But that is an excellent thought...

Considering the amount of awesome women we have in FMA, Ross is certainly one of the candidates... however, I'd go with Izumi and Olivier, with Mei and Ran Fan following close, with Ross as an outsider. Very remote in this case are Riza (who starred in the latest chapters) and Winry...

or Mrs. Bradley??? (a longshot)

Though, it would be nice to see RanFan again.

And Mei is headed towards Father...or is supposed to be headed that way.

I hope one of the heroines is Ran Fan, I miss her ;_; and I feel like we don't get to see enough of her in general. My next three picks would be Mei Chen, Olivier, and Izumi...although really, all the women in FMA are pretty awesome, so I think it's gonna be a win-win no matter what happens lol watch me eat those words come chapter 96 XD

O.o...what if one of them is Rose? I really, sincerely, sincerely doubt it is, but I was running over a list in my head of all the women in FMA and she popped up that would certainly be an unexpected change of events haha.

I'm going to go with Mei and Izumi being the two heroins, but if its Chapter 97 after all we won't know for a little while!

Riza has already had her moment, and I think Ran Fan would be more of a possibility if Greed were going to be a huge part of this battle. Olivier is also a possibility but she's been pretty heroic for a little while. As for it being Winry...maybe...we'll find out soon enough (because if it is chapter 97 they'll probably be revealed at the end of 96)

Epic chapter is epic but then how could I expect anything less from Arakawa


So I was wrong about Izumi & Olivier's personalities possibly clashing it looks like they will end up forming an awesomly epic friendship. And Arakawa got the Sig/Armstrong friendship like the first anime. That was one moment I did really like in the first anime so I am glad to see those two muscular men form a friendship here as well.

And oh no Hohenheim but I suspected it. I wonder if Ed will be walking in around this moment.

I can't wait to see the rest of the chapter.

I'm pretty sure that friendship was included in the manga as well, though I can't remember which chapter it was in.

Chapter 28, vol 7 had the same scene as the old anime and they will (hopefully) probably include it this time around too as it's too epic to leave out.

Woops my bad sometimes my memory is faulty obviously (and I am actually re-reading the manga now for the new anime but have not gotten that far yet.) But I should have figured that would have came from Arakawa not the 1st anime team since that is so her touch. But thanks for setting me straight.
