I really doubt that Gamefreak is gonna make a crystal remake since they never made a Yellow remake.
doesn't make sense to me.
and Kotone isn't that bad. I mean Kris is amazing, but Kotone is cool.

Then why did they make emerald? Or platinum? They probably didn't remake yellow cause the originals were lame.

Kotone is a fag.

Are you being serious? Yellow is still, alongside Silver, the best game I've played in the series. What's lame are the new, so sloooow and boooring games, which also happens to have a very unappealing graphical style. The old games have a certain charm to 'em. Love the music and the graphics. And the monsters themselves felt more original. The older games were more fun.

Yellow/Red/Blue had the worst graphic. You couldn't even tell what the damn things were. They were ugly. ALSO. You could only play as a male. I REFUSE to play as a male.

Slow is better. It gives you more of a storyline. Who wants a game you can finish in a day?

Crystal was the best. It had better graphics, I could play as my own gender, it was the best region of them all, and all the pokemon didn't look retarded.
Broken Chouchou
From a technical standpoint those games has the worst graphics, yes. I agree that Blue and Red are pretty ugly. But Yellow is an improvement, especially since it makes use of a wider colour scheme than it's predecessors, but also because of the better battle animations. I like it, at least.

I'd go with the graphics of Silver over the lame (dare I say soulless?) 2.5 D graphics in the newer games any time.

Slow can be better. But it's not good if it's so slow that it makes you lose interest completely.

Never played Crystal. But the one point I do agree with you on is the option to choose gender; that's definitely an improvement.

(Tbh I haven't played a Pokemón game for years. I grew out of it. But the remake of Gold/Silver might be what it takes to lure me into start playing again. I mean, even if the franchise is aimed at kids, and even if the rest of it; anime, movies, gaming cards etc is pretty childish, the games are fun biggrin.gif)
Little Washu
The only thing I dislike about these remakes are the lack of Kris. Kotone is gay. It's like they downgraded Kris about 20 times.

The graphics are simply beautiful now. None of the pokemon look fat, they move fluently, and the pixels are neater. HG and SS will have the best graphics yet. But I may not play them at all. A Jhoto without Kris is no Jhoto at all.

See I though the opposite about the newer games. I dislike Ruby and Sapphie because it's so quick to finish compared to Gold and SIlver and to some extent Red and Blue. It also has a bland plot, forgettable characters and is probably my least favourite generation. I agree that Ruby and Sapphire was pretty charmless in places, but the DS Games rectified all of that by seeming to spend more time on creating a coherent plot and giving it some better playing time.

As for the GS remakes, I will definately be playing them through again, remaking the team I had when I was twelve. Brings back good memories and I'm glad they remade them, if only so I can actually play the damn games again. Stupid in-game battery.
Broken Chouchou
I never played them through; I borrowed Ruby from a friend, and it was so hard for me to get into. It may be that it's quick to finish, but my initial - and the only one i have to go by - impression was that it was very slow paced.

@Washu: Kris, is he the dude from the original G/S?
Forsaken Love
In reply to washu, I completly dissagree, maybe not red and blue so much I did stuggle a little with the graphics, but gold and silver i thought the graphics were awesome when i played (they were a huge upgrade compared to red/blue) XD playing games in the order they're made and the time they're released gives you so much appreciation for how good they are, whereas if you played in reverse, you'd be caught up in things like the 'graphics are crap' or somethin XD Rating this on how much solid, pure enjoyment I got out of the game, my gold was WAY better than any pokemon game before or after it by a collosal amount, and who knows in like 10years maybe people will be saying games like diamond have epically bad graphics XD

To me the dimaond/pearl were awful games, they had none of the charm of the originals had

oh and crystal was really good because you could choose to play as a girl, but I didn't care that in the previous games i couldnt, i mean i don't refuse to play zelda games because link is a guy, and i doubt male players dont play something like metroid because samus is a girl, of course i guess they are characters who can't be changed XD and its a really nice feature of the new games to pick your gender, makes it feel more like a digital you, what i really want them to do, is include a feature to change your appearance! like hair colour, eye colour, clothes, skin colour etc I'd love that!

@Washu: Kris, is he the dude from the original G/S?

Never refer to HER in such an insulting way. GOLD was of course brought back.
KRIS:

Just look at that sexiness. Poor thing has to deal with the horrid art from GEN II.

@Forsaken Love- I refuse to play as a male character. Kris was created as an acknowledgment of female fans. She is by far the best improvement in the whole Pokemon game series.
Forsaken Love
is that just referring to pokemon or games in general? Before Kris was created I played as a male character and didnt think much of it, but of course I was very happy and enjoyed it more been able to play as a female character, I still wish they'd take it a bit further and let us play around with the appearance a bit more though, that would be much more interesting when playing against live players I think
Little Washu
^I refused to play Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver because I would not fall into the stereotype that Pokemon is for boys. Kris's creation was acknowledgment that girls like it too. She was truly the best addition to the games. She could even be considered a major landmark in Pokemon (game) history. Without her, I'd have never even touched the games. Even her design has a charm that none of the other female characters have, she looks to be a stringer female character rather than an obnoxious one like May or Dawn.

Yeah, cause you know, being a dude is such a bad thing, right?^

Silver's where it was at back in the day for me. Never played Gold.

@Forsaken Love: Someone who get's it, yay! I played Blue first, and loved it. Then came Yellow, which I loved even more at the time. And then you had the main game in Silver, which was great, and then, you got to travel to Kanto again. Nostalgia <3

After that, I've only played parts of Fire Red and Ruby, and none of them gave me the same joyous feeling that the older games did, despite the upgraded graphics and new features etc. I feel like the older games had more creativity to them, less spaced out and cartoonish monsters, and everything still felt new and exciting. The joy of exploration was still there.

Lol, I'm not trying to defend anything, except the fact that these new games are severely lacking the main thing that made Jhoto so great.

Either way, if I have to play them, I'll just name Kotone Dumb-A$$ or something.
Broken Chouchou
So, you're basically saying that one character made the entire game for you? I feel like if that's where you get your enjoyment out of from a Pokémon game, you're missing the whole concept.

You're not quite understanding me. I only started playing the games because I could play as a girl. I was in 2nd grade, and have a horrid history with males of any kind. Also, do you think a girly-girl wants to play as a boy? Ugh, never. Kris is proof that they acknowledged girls as liking Pokemon. She was the whole face of Crystal version. Crystal was also the first for many other things. It was the first for animated sprites as well as many other things. Crystal was the best Pokemon game to date. Then, they had the nerve to replace one thing that made Crystal so great.
Forsaken Love
I understand what your saying, but I just never saw it as much of a big deal, yah it was great they introduced the female player, course it was, but I don't really see much difference between kris or any of the others, and as i said before, playing as a boy before kris was invented was fine to me, i was brought up as a gamer by my brothers and cousin and was perfectly accoustomed to all the main game characters been male and didnt really think anythin of it tbh XD games are a technology which start of primitive and evolve, red and blue in particular lacked personalization to me and so i didnt mind the male character whats so ever, in the same way I don't care Link is a guy when i play him, I just named my character Ash and thought i was playing as him XD It's great there are girls now, but i just don't think its that big of a deal there wasn't in the first few, the design of the early games I don't think were strained by it.

I hear you. But why pay so much attention to as whether you can play as a girl ot not? If the game is fun, then that's what should matter the most. I get that you don't want to be a part of a supporting branch of a sexistic industry by swallowing their doubtful stereotypes and playing along as if you were fine with it.

But taking a stance in this matter feels rather pointless, seeing as all it will result in is you missing out an a game you would want to play.

But if it makes you feel better personally, fine.

But think of this scenario: a guy hating a game because the only main playable character is a girl.

As things are today, that would come off a rather ignorant and immature, right?

(I'm not saying it's the same thing, since women have been more or less ignored as gamers and consumers in the video game industry for a long time. It's actually kind of a reversed situation, where being pissed at the same example as in where the boy would get sneered at, the girl would get praised.)

Ah, whatever, there are too many aspects to take into regard, and I'm too tired to get into a gender debate here.

If it weren't for that one character, I'd have never gotten into the games. I mean, from when I started playing the game I've always drawn my trainer as Kris, regardless of whatever region she was in. Hell, I even named the character "Kris" before I even knew that was her name. It's not that the game wont be fun, it's more that it wont be the same. I got quite attached to her character, and then they replaced her, but they didn't replace the male, as if they're saying it doesn't matter what female character there is, Gold is the important one. It's quite hard to explain what I'm trying to say...

To simplify, Crystal version was my whole childhood as far as Pokemon games go, and Kris was like my hero cause I always wanted to be a pokemon trainer, and she seemed to be such a strong female lead. I was excited because I thought I could relive that feeling I had when I was a kid, and am just really disappointed because they replaced her as if she wasn't important. Does that make sense?
Forsaken Love
;__; washu-san...that was actually such a touching story XD lol seriously, I'm sad Kris won't be in it now T_T and actually where did ya hear this snippet of info?

Yup. Very much so, actually. See, when you say it like that it's a lot easier to see where you're coming from. Pretty much have me convinced that it was a really bad choice too =/

My guess is that they wanted to signify a sense of renewal with these remakes, and that's why they switched female protagonist from that of Crystal. Which of course is like saying that Kris was just an "optional" character right from the beginning.

P.S. When I was a kid I wished that Pokémons would exist for real, and that I also could be a trainer. Like, really wished xD

That's pretty much why I'm so upset, because they're almost saying she wasn't important. I have the Crystal guidebook still, and pretty much all the pictures for examples are Kris rather than Gold.

Even if they did this I'd be fine, it's just a shame. That's why I'd like to hope for a Crystal remake as well. Kris wasn't in Gold and Silver, so I'm hoping that's the reason why she wasn't in these ones. If that is the case, because Crystal was the improved version of the two (selling more copies than both as well), if there is a remake I can pray for her to be in it. Hell, they can add a 2nd male option too to make it even.

This is all speculation, or even more so what I'd LIKE to happen. I'll hope for it, though I know it's a slim chance it'll happen.

I see your point. I mean I dont Kotone that much, I mean I usually play as the boy and girl in some series, cause I like to like that. Like in crystal I played as Kris when i first got it since it was awesome to be a different gender. If they make a crystal remake, I think Kris should be in it, cause if they dont gamefreaks fail big time for that. I played as Gold throughout HG/SS. I usually play as the girl in the 2nd part, or the 3rd. Like in Diamond and Pearl, Diamond was a boy, Pearl I chose the girl, and Platinum I chose the girl cause I wanted too, and in Ruby I chose May, soo yeah get my point. But this time I didnt chose a girl since Kotone doesn't belong in Johto, Kris does. I see where youre getting at.
Broken Chouchou
You've already played the games? How are they? Better than the originals, or worse? Do they differ much? Worth getting? smile.gif
IceSkadi
Pokemon Red and Pokemon Gold are all my childhood. I'm so happy that they did a remake despite I will have to steal my brother's DS to play with it tongue.gif

Anyway my only question is: there are the new ugly pokemons too (I don't want to offend someone but the new games are nothing compared with the old ones imo)? In this case I think that the remake will lose many points...

Yes i played/Owned them. They are fun, I like them, I love all the new feature, like the touch menu, the new Register item feature, the pokemon following you feature, and love how you can use the touch screen to talk to people too. the features differs much, but the storyline doesnt seem to change, except for like the in game events, I like more than the old one. But the Original one has always have a piece of my heart and gaming experience. Yes it is worth it, It's a well done Remake, they even have a thing called "GB Player" where you can switch to the GB music of G/S/C, and switch back to the HG/SS DS music, but you get it after you get 16 badges.

EDIT:

Hey, I saw on Bulbapedia that HeartGold and SoulSilver has been marked with a date, according to Amazon. With that info they posted official box art for the English version. Check it out here

The release date is posted as March 14th 2010. Thought the Official Website hasn't really provided us with a real date, but Amazon posted a date, and you never know. I hope it is a date. But the Boxes seem real to me.
here is the Amazon Site.

So the games are coming out this Sunday. I've preordered them both. I'll probably do my usual, and play one for the story and the other for whatever Pokemon aren't available in the other. Although, that's why I liked the 3rd 'combined' kinds (i.e. Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum)
beastPlushi
Heh, I actually just had to make a banner of this game for my friends website.

I personally haven't played a Pokemon game since Red & Blue, but I'm glad to see that they still have a loyal fan-base.
Broken Chouchou
Mmm which version to get? Only thing that differs is some Pokémons available, all other content is the same right?

I always liked Lugia better than Hoho (?), so that's the thing Silver's got going for it. But I recall there being another legendary mon supposedly lurking in some forest, that you couldn't aqquire in Silver, which always intrigued me. Hmm.

*(?) Ho-oh, not hoho

As for that Pokemon not available in silver, I've never heard of that.

I was just going to say that I couldn't for the life of me remember its name, but then it suddenly came back to me as I was typing that sentence - Celebi. Its a green little mysterious Pokémon said to reside in a shrine in a forest passage. (There's a movie in the franchise about it as well.)

But maybe you can't catch it in any version. Maybe it was just mentioned as a legend in the game, to add some depth and mystery to the world, and the player was never meant to actually be able to catch it in the first place. I was 9 or 10 when I played Silver, so my english probably wasn't all that great, I could easily have misinterpreted some things.

--- ---

On another note, talking about these games, I re-remember something that makes Ho-oh all that more awesome. Remember the huge, mystical rainbow bird that an inexperienced Ash briefly glimpses somewhere in the early episodes of the first - and best - anime generation? You don't get to clearly see it yourself, and you have no idea about it at the time, but that's Ho-oh. Which, years later when during the gameplay of Gold/Silver realizing it's the same Pokémon they're referencing to, was very, very awesome.

Sweet nostalgia.

I got the English version(SoulSilver, I didnt get HG) the same day it came out. I love it. Except they had to make the changes in the GoldenRod Game Corner. Dx, stupid Voltorb Flip. Oh well.

I can play my Japanese one. I restarted my Japanese HG a while ago, and I was wanting to finish the Johto region before, but i couldnt cause I got too lazy since I got Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep xD. But I am at the Elite 4 in the Japanese HG.

in my English SS, I am at the 7th Gym.

My Japanese SS, I beat it xD

God I can't wait to play this game. Seriously. Wasn't even planning on pre-ordering it, very rearely do that with games, was just gonna walk in and buy it at the store. But then I realized I want this game too bad to want to risk it being all sold out.

Not that I expect it to be, but you never know.

... Only nine days left. It comes out march 26th over here. On a friday. I sure hope I get my copy in the mail the same day, otherwise I'm probably gonna have to wait until the following monday or so.
Le Monkey
Same here, I ordered mine on play, they will send it out on wednesday so I get it by friday, ^^
Little Washu
Been playing my SS for a while now~ About to beat Morty. Haven't touched HG though, saving it~

The boxes sure are pretty, eh 8D?

Also, the figurines are too~

But the fact that only some Pokemon are available in HG, and some in SS, leads me to hope for a Crystal remake even more~ If not just to be Kris, but to get the Pokemon that both games have~ Also the combined remakes (Emerald, Platinum, ect.) usually are better in every aspect~ I just hope they add Kris as an option then, after all, she is Kris (Crystal)~

From what I've heard till now, you can have them only by trade. A person with who I talked said that she hasn't run into any in the wild yet biggrin.gif

Because Celebi is a Japan only Pokemon, it's exclusive to that country. We get event ones like Jirachi now and again, but not Celebi. At least, none to date (although there may have been one way back when Crystal came out, around 2002). As for why, just because. Maybe they will have a Nintendo event with Celebi, but who knows. If not, just use a gameshark or action replay.

That's the way it is and has ALWAYS been. You really haven't been playing the games very long have you? You must have only started playing them recently. Because really, no one else really cares and gets it through cheats. Either way, the reason is because the games were made in Japan, so the Japanese get extra perks. Don't like it, buy a Japanese copy. Otherwise, its pointless to complain.

If you have a DS Lite, you need unsecured wireless to get on the internet. I have to disable my security every time I want to go online.

But once you have a connection, if you go into the basement of a pokemon center and try to log in, you can find out your friend code. Check the pal pad afterwards to make sure that it worked.
